Rabbis ftfrsf Offielate ill HII Wedding Rites Chic2"o (JTA) The Chicff!" Hoard of Rabbis revived the controversy over cantors officiating at weddings with a statement that "the proper officiant at all Jewish wedding ceremonies should be only a duly ordained rabbi." The board said it had issued the statement because of "recent discussions in the community concerning the officiants at the wedding ritual." The statement hold that a couple "embarlTing upon the sacred responsibilities of marriage," should have the "spiritual guidance, counsel and inspiration of a rabbi." The cantor could properly participate in the ceremony by chanting appropriate portions of the service only with the rabbi, the statement said.

Enrollment will be limited to the first 14 students to register. Fee for the series is $20. Fees for similar courses in tbo Omaha area are over SIOO. The two American rocket experts were reported to lu.ve taken up further development of the Egyptian rocket program after the chief West German scientist in charge of the program, Prof. Wolfgang Pilz, had returned to Germany. The West German r o c k e t teams had developed three rockets with, estimated ranges of l!)0 to 370 miles. Each of the rockets could hit Israeli targets from bases in the Sinai. Robert McCloskey, State Department spokesman, said the Department had no information on tho situation nndjroi'W neither confirm nor deny the engagement of Americans in the Egyptian rocket program. Other IT. S. officials said they knew of no legal barrier that would prevent American scientists who so desired from working for Egypt.

Washington (JTA) — Rep. Seymour Halpern, in a speech on the House floor, announced that he has asked the United States Attorney General to investigate possible violations of Federal law by American s c i e n t i s t s employed in Egypt's military rocket in-, dustry. The New York Republican told the House that he has also made a formal rcrmest for a Department of State investigation and public report on the matter. He termed the work by Americans in Egypt on rockets as "deplorable." He said that a full disclosure ol lacts is necessary "so thai we in the Congress may take appropriate legislative action to ensure that these abuses do not recur." Rep. Halpern pointed out that "there is a distinct possibility that the two Amerioans named in reports may be f o r m e r Federal employes who, in the course of their work, may be m a r k e t i n g their nation's secrets for private gain in violation of Fed-^ e r a l law." Accordingly, he* said, the U. S. Department of Justice has been asked "to ascertain if such violations are taking place."

Washington (JTA)—A consentus of views expressed by 85 rabbis at the annual conference of B'nai B'ritii Hillel Foundation directors held here indicated that social protest by college students today is somewhat less than publicized demonstrations suggest, but more volatile than any other student generation since the depression years. The rabbis felt that, basically, it is a healthy rebellion against the failures in modern society. Rabbi Benjamin M. Kahn, Hil-

lel national director, said that student protests express a student conviction that, if religion is to mean anything in their lives, it must relate itself concretely to poverty, war, and other social concerns that surround their generation," Rabbi Jeulidah M.,Cohen, of Los Angeles, West Coast Hillel regional direc tor, said political turbulence will continue to emanate from tho campus because students are dissatisfied with "the glacial pace of social progress."
