Washington . . . In an obvious el tort to minimize Hie effect of the '-Eternal Lifjht Vigil" which protested against anti-.Iewi.sh religious and cultural discriminations in Russia, a letter was released by the Soviet Embassy in Washington under the signatures of Rabbi Avranm Maim Luhanov, of Leningrad. Chief Habbi Yehudah Leib Levin of Moscow and Habbi Nntnn Clevsky, who heads a second Jewish house of worship in the Soviet capitol. The letter was termed as a reply to Rabbi Israel Miller, president of the Rabbinical Council of America who headed n delegation of nine American Orthodox rabbis who visited Moscow last July. Asking "who needs this demonstration? " and telling Iiabbi Miller, "you know perfectly well that our Hocks do not need it at all," the letter claimed: "Long before Rosh Hashimah—in August—Jew:; got religious calendars •intcd in the Moscow State printer;/.
