"The younger members of our community arc very much concerned and disturbed about the so called " v a n i s h i n g Jew" image. We want to preserve and save our Jewish community." Emphasizing that the Jewish Philanthropies Campaign is an important agent in fighting the concept of the "Vanishing Jew in America," Marlon Somberg, Men's Division chairman of Philanthropies, dressed the urgency of supporting Omaha Jewish Community agencies and activities. Campaign Majors "With this thought in mind" Mr. Somberg said, "I have called on some of the young leaders of the community to serve as Majors in the Men's Division of the Philanthropies Drive. The job of the majors is not only to collect funds, but to educate the community about the scope of Campaign funds. I am delighted to announce the names of these men who have

Supported through the Philanthropies arc the weekday and weekend schools of Beth El, Beth Israel and Temple Israel; a total of 1148 children."

Los Angeles (JTA)—A Protestant pastor has posted a mezuzah on the door of his parsonage —a wartime method used in Denmark to protest Nazism—as a protest against the presence of an American Nazi party member in a home in suburban Glendale. Mexico City. (JTA)—A book entitled "America is in Danger" was published here this week by a noted Mexican anti-Semitic writer, Salvador Borrcgo, accusing the Jewish people of imperiling all of America. Borrcgo,' a-, staff member of the influential daily newspaper, Excelsoir, was the author of a violently anti-Semitic work issued shortly after the conclusion of World War II. In that diatribe, he called Nazi Germany's collapse a "catastrophe," and adduced data "proving" that the Jews had started the war and were at fault for the Nazi defeat. That book has gone through several editions and has been circulated widely throughout Latin America.

Marlon Somberg "Omaha has a unique position in the entire United States" Mr. Somberg added. "I believe we are the only Jewish community in which schools representing Orthodox, Conservative and Reform viewpoints are supported." boys and girls have a meeting place in an atmosphere which is conducive to developing Jewish attitudes and Jewish fellowship. "Through the campaign" Mr. Somberg continued "we find the means to implement our objective of improving our Center, its staff, facilities, services and activities, so that the young people will be attracted to it and influenced by its program. Camp "The Esther K. Newman Camp is another activity in which our children receive daily indoctrination into Jewish living and Jewish activities. Every child that goes to Camp is exposed to Jewish influences. This is the most effective measure to fight a "vanishing Jew" situation. The camp is one of the local needs served by the Philantropies campaign." Other Services The Jewish Family Service helps to maintain Jewish family

to make up for West Germany's cancelation of such shipments, was seen here as W. Averell Harriman, after completing five days of highly-secret conferences with Israel's topmost governmental leaders, h e a d e d by Prime Minister Levi Eshkol. While the black-out on official announcements about the talks continued in effect — informed circles stated that p r o g r e s s seems to have been achieved concerning Israel's request for "non-secret" supplies of arms from the U. S. A. During his talks, not only with Premier Eshkol but also with Foreign Minister Golda Meir and Deputy Defense Minister Shimon Peres, Mr. Harriman is known to have shown understanding of Israel's position on most of the major issues under consideration. Regarding open American arms supplies to Israel, the talks are believed to have built a positive framework within which further conferences would be held in Washington, with the possible participation of both Mrs. Meir and Mr., Peres.

Overseas Needs "As young American Jews we are vitally concerned in the welfare of our needy brethren the world over and in Israel. We will do our proper share, as we must, infringing them help and a solution to their problems. "At the same time," Mr. Somberg concluded, "we know that the only answer to a concept of "vanishing American Jew" is caring for the needs' of our own Omaha Jewish community."
