In Omaha, as in the resl of the United States and indeed, the rest of the world, people were shocked into disbelief, sadness and deep mourning by the sudden, tragic death of the 35th President of the United States, John Fitzgerald Kennedy. Today, one week later, people are still unwilling to believe that this vital figure is gone. The following statements reflect the feelings of the entire Omaha Jewish community. Rabbi Benjamin G r o n e r of Beth I s r a e l Synagogue. "The foul deed that snuffed out the life of President John F. Kennedy has plunged the land—nay, the entire world—into mourning. His was a perilous destiny, to lead America during a very troubled period, constantly beset with international tensions and internal difficulties. He was an able and vigorous statesman in the arena of world affairs; a wise and tolerant Chief of State who energetically coped with the problems of domestic friction; and n lovable family man, whose warmth endeared him to myraids of admirers. "His sudden, untimely end has sent waves of shock throughout the world. We pray that his tragic death will not disrupt the precarious balance of nominal peace that prevails among the nations today. May the Almighty grant His full measure of comfort to his grieving widow and to all members of the Kennedy family." Rabbi Myer Kripke, Beth El Synagogue; "Americans of all faiths are shattered by the great tragedy that has come upon us. From the depths of our being we send our condolences to Mrs. Kennedy .and the President's family, for when a man dies it is his family who arc the immediate and permanent sufferers.
