European tour sponsored by the Jewish Federation of Omaha, must be in by March 10, Arthur H, Goldstein, Federation President, reported, since traveling space is limited. The tour dates, May 2-27 were arranged to give Omahans a chance to have time for unhurried sightseeing, in addition to individual activities at most of the destinations. Those who inquired about the tour following its announcement last week, expressed particular interest in this feature—getting more than a casual glimpse of the specified areas to be visited, and an opportunity to know more about the people. Israel's Scientific Aid to Newly Developed Countries Is Praised Geneva (WNS)—Israel's role in providing scientific assistance and training to the newly developed nations in Africa, has received much praise, from these governments, according to a booklet distributed by the Israeli delegation to the United Nations Science and Technology Conference at its meeting in Geneva. Abba Eban, Israel's Minister of Education, in an address at the conference asserted that every new nation, "even the smallest," should be given the opportunity "to take part in the research work of the whole world." Mr. Eban emphasized that as part of its effort to provide scientific equality it will expand its program of providing scientific training to the youth of other countries. Eban noted that "Science has been a major instrument in" Israel's "expansion. The fact that it is a small land with limited, means is a particularly relevant e x a mpie for students from new states." He noted that at the present time there were 1,500 Israeli scientific and technical specialists working in the new countries and that Israel in 1962 had been host to some 1,600 scientific leaders from those countries, providing them with technical facilities.

Dates and Rates Announced Season dates and rates for the new Esther K. Newman Camp, sponsored by the Jewish Federation, were announced this week by Edward D. Brodkey, Camp Committee Chairman. Six Weeks' Operation The camp will run six weeks, opening Sunday, June 30, and continuing through August 11. Campers will be permitted to register for two, four or sixweek periods. The two-week sessions will be. conducted from June 30 to July 14; July 14 to July 28, and July 28 to August 11. Mr. Brodkey said rates will remain much below the national average for this kind of camp. Fee for Omaha residents lor. a two-week period is $75, while the charge for non-residents is $85 for a similar session. The camp committee approved the recommendation t h a t the Brodkey counseling staff be composed of an all-college or college graduates. Ituilding Near Completion' The new Esther K. Newman Camp is situated in a beautiful 183-acre tract near Louisville, Neb. The area is currently the scene of widespread construction activity with many of the camp buildings close to completion. The community's first permanent camp will be ready for complete operation by June. Mr. Brodkey stated that over 70 youngsters have been enrolled in an early registration program held for former campers. He urged parents of other children planning on camp to contact the camp office at the Jewish Community Center, 342-1366, immediately. Campers are enrolled in order of the receipt of their applications. With a capacity enrollment anticipated, Mr. Brodkey said, he felt registrations will be completed early.
Chernovtsy's Last Synagogue Closed New York (JTA)—The Soviet authorities have compelled the congregation of what is believed to have been the last remaining synagogue in Chernovtsy, in the "Ukraine, to disband and close "the institution. The city, formerly known as Czernovitz, capital of the Rumanian province of Bukhovina, once had one of the largest Jewish populations in Eastern Europe. The Jewish population of the city today is estimated at between 40,000 and 50,000. A report on the closure of the

The story made clear that the action was forced upon the congregation by "3,000 l o y a l atheists" who took over the edifice for a mass-meeting. Participants at the meeting, the p u b l i c a t i o n reported, charged that "Israeli diplomats" had visited the- synagogue at various times, "offending Soviet citizens by their attacks against the Soviet system" The worshipers, the paper said, had "protested against the behavior of tlia Israeli diplomats."
Ghicagoan fo Conduct Leadership Institute Mrs. Milton C. Lippitz of Chicago, 111., will arrive in Omaha Monday, March 4, to conduct a Leadership Trainiqg Institute at Beth El Synagogue. The meetings will begin at 7:30 p.m., Monday and continue through Wednesday afternoon for members of the Mid-West Branch of the National Women's League. Arrangements are being made by Mrs. Morris C. Fellman, branch vice-president and Mrs. Harry Ferenstein. Mrs. Lippitz, an attorney, is a former vice-president of the national organization and extension chairman. She previously served as president of the Anshe Emet Sisterhood in Chicago and as president of the Central Branch of the National Women's League.
