• "What do you mean late for school?"-questioned Mr. Levinson. " MiHard Krasne, in the Bluffs, brought home two dozen bars of Hershey mQk chocolates, a short time back. He gave them to his wife, in a nicely -wrapped package. "Just, a .little sweetness for you," he told he£ She opened, the package, expecting to find a .box of chocolates, the bon bon, etc., kind. .'.''.Vsthat^s this.!'--she gasped, la a near-faint, as she unwrapped the bundle - and saw within the twentyfour chocolate bars. This custom 6f having two, sometimes three, sets of dishes to have a properly equipped Jewish kitchen has caused considerable worry to many newly-weds. Sometimes the young bride might place meat in the "milchike" dishes, or vice versa, causing not a little worry to her if she is a pious young: Jewish housekeeper. Now comes forward a young bride with a plan which eliminates the double-set, of dishes. She is Mrs. Phil Eomenek, and her remedy is simple. SHE USES GLASS DISHES THROUGHOUT. NATIONAL A. Z. A. DAY HERE DECEMBER 19. One of the biggest functions to be held in Omaha by the local chapter A- Z. A. is the celebration of National A. Z. A. Day in the B'nai B'rith lodge rooms of the Jewish Community Center, Sunday, at 8 p. m. I am put to understand that something novel and well worth the time of those attending will be presented on the program. Edward Baron, an attorney of Sioux City, is coming down here to give the principal address of the evening. Though never having met. him personally, as yet, I'm told his power of speech is something to marvel about. Before this main program the chapter is giving a banquet in the dining room of the Center. All A. Z. A. and B'nai B'rith men anp their wives, mothers or sweethearts are invited. • * • THE HAI RESH DANCE. The Hai Resh l^nefit dance, held Sunday at the Jewish Community Center, proved itself a tremendous success, with a capacity crowd filling the auditorium. It was a pleasure to see such Teally prominent Omahans," as were at the dance, doing their bit to furnish the Community Center with additional and good reading matter^. and fix up the Center library, in general. ; * * * A LAST WORD. Washington (J. T. A.)—The recom-; mendadons made by Secretary. Davis of the Labor Department with regard to the Immigration laws include suggestions to Congress to overcome the hardships;resulting from the. separation of families on account "of the present immigration law.- '""."It is my opinion that a third and final step in a complete process of selecting immigration can be accomplished if Congress will but approve some method of priority in the granting of what are now referred to as *non-preference' quota visas. Of quota immigrants, on the ground of humanity, I would- provide for preference to be issued to husbands, wives and minor children of alien residents in the United States,"-Secretary Davis recommended in his annual report, • • * "Wives and" unmarried children under 18 years of a citizen of the United States are non-quota immigrants under the act of 1924, which is as it should be, but the class should be extended to include" the husband of an AmRrican ot^^^md.ia:.pTjmsion. should be- added permitting the entrance, if the quota be exhausted, of minor unmarried children and dependent fathers and mothers of citizens of the United States," he declared. • The Secretary repeated recommendations first made in 1925, that Congress allow the importation of special or skilled labor, under careful restriction, when need exists in American industry. This expansion of the total immigration possible, lie suggested, should be balanced off by empowering the President to shut off. immigration entirely during periods of industrial depression in the United States.
