WELCOME Dear Friends of Jewish Family Service, Thank you for making time to support JFS Dallas today, even though we’re connecting with each other safely from our homes due to the pandemic. Like you, we were looking forward to being together, in person, to celebrate and support JFS Dallas’ impact and the professional, effective and affordable services provided to over 14,000 people in need each year. But this is April 2020, and participating virtually is the next best thing. Our heartfelt thanks are given to our co-chairs Julie Gothard, Nicole Post, and Melanie Rubin, along with our honorary co-chairs Linda Garner and Ethel Zale, for their tireless efforts to make this event successful; even more-so after we made the decision to go completely virtual! We could not have accomplished this without you. While the immediate future is uncertain, the need for our services remains clear. For 70 years, JFS Dallas has been here to help individuals navigate their personal journeys from challenging transitions to self-sufficiency and recovery. And now, that journey may be a lot longer for some in the coming weeks and months. JFS Dallas continues to meet the evolving needs of the community with comprehensive resources for all ages and incomes. This includes play therapy for children; counseling for at-risk teens; individual, marital and family therapy; family violence intervention; employment and financial coaching; emergency assistance; food pantry access; and older adult services. Our fee scale can slide to $0 when needed and our ability to provide comprehensive and confidential services makes us inclusive and accessible to the greater 4
Dallas community. JFS Dallas’ National Accreditation by the Council on Accreditation and successful service outcomes both underscore the quality of our effective coordinated care. We also continue to maintain a 4-Star Charity Navigator rating, an honor that places JFS Dallas among the top four percent of nonprofits nationally. Our clubhouse values relationship building and meaningful work. Together, we can learn to regain our productivity, independence, and quality of life. V O L U N T EER O P P O RT UNI T I E S JFS had more than 1,600 individuals and families come forward this past year to help us accomplish our work in the community. Regardless of what role they’re filling, every single volunteer plays a critical role in enabling JFS to serve our community. Volunteers are crucial to our efforts, but all opportunities below are on hold while our building is closed due to COVID-19 shelter in place guidelines. FOOD PANTRY Volunteers are needed on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays to help clients get the food that they need during our distribution hours from 9am to 2pm. On other days of the week, volunteers can help bring more food to our clients by picking up donations from community partners like SNAP Kitchen.
Pantry, hygiene items, diapers, or can openers to be given to clients in the JFS Food Pantry.
JOB SEARCH RESOURCE CENTER Provide clients direct access to numerous job leads and resources by helping in our Job Search Resource Center. As mentors, our volunteers can offer insight and personal knowledge related to the working world.
INCLUSION EXPERIENCE Serve as a facilitator for the interactive curriculum designed by the Special Needs Partnership to simulate the effects of specific disabilities, leading to a discussion about inclusion and empathy.
THE RESALE SHOP Help to sort donations, organize shelves and clothing racks and assist customers at our store. Organizations are also invited to run clothing drives and volunteer for an afternoon of service at the shop. SUPPLY DRIVES Volunteers of all ages can collect needed food items for our Food
FRIENDLY VISITORS A senior in need of companionship is matched with a volunteer who drops in on a regular basis to chat and share special time in or out of the home.
KOSHER HOME DELIVERED MEALS Package and deliver pre-cooked meals to homebound older adults. CLERICAL Assist JFS administratively by assisting with mailings, database management and day-to-day tasks. HOLIDAY GIFT BASKETS Volunteers assist JFS in compiling and delivering 650 baskets all over the Metroplex for both Passover
and Rosh Hashanah, bringing holiday greetings to those who could use a reminder of the love and support they have from JFS and the community. SPECIAL EVENTS Plan & staff special events, including Volunteer Appreciation, annual fundraisers, the Kosher Chili-Cook Off, the Dallas Kosher BBQ Championship and more. FOOD PANTRY EXPERIENCE Schedule a Food Pantry Experience for your group. This program involves learning the value of a dollar and simulates living at or below the poverty line. Groups have a discussion about hunger, health, and what kind of foods you can buy with a limited income. CORPORATE GROUPS JFS is happy to host a “Day of Impact” or day of volunteerism for your company working in the Food Pantry, at The Resale Shop, delivering Kosher Home Delivered Meals or assisting with various projects around our agency.

CO V ID-19 R ES P O NS E I N NUMB E R S Between March 18, 2020 - April 18, 2020: JFS Intake has had a 260% increase in number of calls for our services. The number of requests for Financial Assistance has increased by 8x. Kosher Home Delivered Meals provided 899 nutritious meals along with a weeks’ worth of shelf stable groceries to Older Adult clients, an increase of 36% in meal delivery. We've seen a 28% increase in the number of telehealth therapy sessions for existing clients. There has been a 563% increase in engagements on our JFS LinkedIn due to job seekers looking for resources for networking and employment with our Career and Financial Services. We are still moving families escaping domestic violence into available transitional housing and/or referring to shelter partners. 11 recorded free webinars and videos and 16 articles written with professional tips with a wide range of topics for our clients during these uncertain times. 26

As you can imagine, it's hasn't been easy. Before the pandemic, we were just settling into how our boundaries and behaviors would be together. Once this all started it felt like our progress came to a screeching halt. There is stress in the house and fear of the unknown, let alone trying to parent and teach under these very challenging circumstances. I'm so glad that I have been able to get emotional support and referrals through my phone sessions with [my counselor]. They were even able to give me a gift card to Kroger to offset our increase in food costs since we're all home together. "I have experienced a significant increase in child clients need for counseling at this time. Many children are struggling with lack of structure, lack of physical, social, and emotional outlets. I have experienced increased crisis calls from parents because their children are not able to manage their emotions and behaviors. Children who have never experienced suicidal ideation or aggressive behaviors are now struggling. Parents are reaching out more because they are stressed, emotionally exhausted, and experiencing their own mental health struggles.
