The design excellence of Virco’s custom upholstered stack chairs goes beyond the naked eye. While their strong, tubular steel frames and attractive upholstery are plain to see, there’s something more you should know about our chairs. Premium upholstery foam gives them a long-term competitive edge. While upholstery foam quality is measured by a number of criteria, the most important are density and I.L.D. (indentation load deflection) and the relationship Premium 3.0 density between them. Simply put, density upholstery foam with a high I.L.D. rating and I.L.D. work together to determine both the firmness and durability of upholstery foam. With that in mind, we’ve outlined the “foam facts” that separate Virco chairs from the competition:

1. Virco’s premium 3.0 density upholstery foam with a high I.L.D. rating provides longer-lasting seating comfort when compared to inferior “dual-density” foams, which break down more quickly. 2. Unlike competing composite foams that “bottom out” and leave chairs with unsightly crushed corners, the uniform consistency of our premium upholstery foam helps Virco seat cushions effectively maintain their appearance and resilience despite heavy, high-traffic use.

3. Because our foam makes for greater product longevity and seating support, Virco upholstered stack chairs with premium foam give you a better furniture value for your money. In light of the above, premium foam is clearly a critical component in the construction of upholstered chairs. Although this fact may not be evident when they’re brand new, a few years of heavy use will separate superior chairs from all the rest. After a while, you’ll notice that the seats of some manufacturers’ chairs are buckling, sagging or bulging, while others, like Virco’s, have retained a firm, fresh appearance. Ultimately, the difference is reducible to foam. Now you know why premium upholstery foam is so important. It gives you the unseen advantage of Virco’s commitment to authentic quality.

Frames are constructed of 7⁄8” square, heavy-gauge tubular steel.

A 7⁄8” square, heavy-gauge tubular steel cross member is welded to the frame for enhanced seat strength.

Optional welded-on ganging device.

Stack bars welded to the legs help protect the upholstery of stacked chairs, while helping to align the stack. Plastic stack bumpers help protect frames when chairs are stacked. A 5⁄8” square, heavy-gauge tubular steel H-brace is welded to the rear legs.

Custom 8900 chairs with steel-base swivel glides have a molded plastic collar to help protect upholstery when chairs are stacked.

Charles Perry’s initial career direction in architecture eventually turned to large-scale public sculpture. Continuum, his most prominent work, is located at the entrance to the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C. Furniture design is another of Perry’s vocations. His recent creation, the Virtuoso® Series, combines the convenience of a versatile, hard-working stack chair with the comfort of a patented, articulating back. “The Virtuoso is a ‘quiet’ chair,” said Perry, “Unobtrusive; stately - if you will - not at all jazzy. Virtuoso is intended to stay in the background and quietly let the rest of the ambience blossom.”

By incorporating and enhancing many of the ergonomically beneficial details with which they endowed Virco’s best-selling ZUMA® products, Glass and Mills gave the new Sage™ Series a larger chair shell that’s both taller and wider. The responsive Sage backrest, in the words of Peter Glass, “moves with you and supports you with extraordinary comfort.” Another new detail involves the smoothly rolled Sage perimeter edge, which, as Bob Mills said, “significantly increases the user’s comfortable range of motion.” “Sage has a modified lumbar curve which provides excellent support for a wider variety of body types,” Mills continued. “We believe taller-thanaverage people, as well as average-sized users, will really enjoy using Sage furniture.”

Unlike other bases, Lunada’s functionally innovative notched column locks securely into its upper foot, eliminating needless top rotation. Easily assembled Lunada bases also feature durable ABS plastic glides that readily adjust in a 1⁄2” range to help level tables on uneven floors. Optional glide kits in a rainbow of attractive colors let you customize Lunada bases to coordinate with a full spectrum of interior environments.

Tops feature a sturdy particleboard core.

FOLDING TABLES LIGHTWEIGHT & TRADITIONAL When you want the best commercial-grade lightweight folding tables on the market, consider the following important facts about Virco’s Core-a-Gator® line. The Core-a-Gator’s patented extruded aluminum frame makes it superior to lightweight tables that rely on wooden inserts for structural strength. Because our aluminum frame is far stronger than any wood and has better mechanical properties, it’s more easily shaped into forms that match the contours of round or crescent-shaped tables.

FOLDING TABLES

The Core-a-Gator frame delivers full perimeter reinforcement, enabling round and crescent shapes to perform as well or better than rectangular tables, a claim no other manufacturer can make. Virco’s patented conical “honeycomb” core provides uniform support and many times more surface area for extensive, secure bonding to the top’s outer skins than competing tables. Locking Mechanism for Wishbone and C-Leg Designs

Virco’s patented locking mechanism adds strength, security and convenience to our wishbone and C-leg designs. When setting up tables, simply unfold each leg with an outward motion to extend the hinges and engage the gravity-lock pin. To return legs to a folded position, set the table on its side and push the gravity-lock pin toward the table top. This will disengage the pin from its locked position, allowing you to easily complete the folding process.

*Safe Hand Truck Capacities: Unlike storage carts, which support the weight of the furniture entirely with structural steel, hand trucks rely on the strength of the operator to balance the load. For this reason, there is no single “safe capacity” for hand trucks. Conditions such as the size and strength of the operator, the weight of the furniture being moved, and the presence or absence of thresholds, ramps or slick surfaces can all affect the capacity of hand trucks. We recommend starting with small, easily handled loads and adding one or two pieces of furniture at a time to determine the safe capacity for each set of conditions. It’s always better to make a few extra trips than to risk injury to yourself or others by overloading a hand truck. Remember, loaded hand trucks can be dangerous! Use common sense. Selected Virco storage trucks (models TT57SU, TT1872SU, TT1896SU, TT3072SU, TT3096SU, SCT11SU, SCT11KD, SCT1978KD, SCT1996KD, SCT19125KD, SCT1978SU, SCT1996SU and SCT19125SU shown) may be stacked threehigh beneath a twenty-foot ceiling. V-shaped bars on the top and bottom of these storage carts hold stacked units in place (see figure 1). Vertical nesting allows three times the number of chairs to be stored in the same footprint that would otherwise be occupied by a single cart, maximizing the use of vertical storage space. PLEASE NOTE: Virco’s floor support stand system (model SCTSBL) must be used when storage trucks are stacked. This system keeps the weight of stacked units off the casters of the bottom storage truck. When in use, a coupler rod holds each of the system’s stands in place (see figure 2).

SCTSBL This system, which must be used when storage trucks are stacked, keeps the weight of stacked units off the casters of the bottom storage truck. The system allows trucks to be stacked up to three high. *Safe Hand Truck Capacities: Unlike storage carts, which support the weight of the furniture entirely with structural steel, hand trucks rely on the strength of the operator to balance the load. For this reason, there is no single “safe capacity” for hand trucks. Conditions such as the size and strength of the operator, the weight of the furniture being moved, the presence or absence of thresholds, ramps or slick surfaces can all affect the capacity of hand trucks. We recommend starting with small, easily handled loads and adding one or two pieces of furniture at a time to determine the safe capacity for each set of conditions. It’s always better to make a few extra trips than to risk injury to yourself or others by overloading a hand truck. Remember, loaded hand trucks can be dangerous! Use common sense.

Virco’s Ultrastack®, Virtuoso®, 8900 and 8800 Series chairs; model 2018, 264517, 264617, 9018 N918, SG418, SG419, SGCANT18, ZU418 and ZCANT18 chairs; 6000, 6100 (Core-a-Gator®) and 62000 Series tables included in this catalog have passed applicable performance tests for strength, durability, and stability as established by the Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturer’s Association International and accepted by the American National Standards Institute.

In order to extend the torque life of mobile bench and stool tables with torsion bars, Virco recommends that customers store their tables in an upright position when not in use.

The number of pieces of furniture that can be safely stacked or moved on Virco’s mobile storage equipment will vary depending on many factors, including the furniture’s height, weight and general design; the speed at which the unit will be moved; the terrain over which it will travel; and the strength of the operator(s). Care should be taken not to stack to the point of unsteadiness. Virco recommends starting with small, easily handled loads and adding one to two pieces of furniture at a time to determine the safe capacity for each set of conditions. Use Virco mobile storage equipment with appropriate Virco furniture only.

Care & Use Instructions NOTICE: To prevent structural failures and possible injury, furniture should not be used other than for its intended purpose and should be inspected regularly for loose or missing screws or rivets, metal fatigue, cracks, broken welds, missing attachments, loose staples, and general instability. Furniture that is damaged or appears to be unstable should immediately be removed from service, reported to the facility manager, and replaced or repaired. Repairs should only be made using factory-authorized parts and methods. For information on furniture maintenance, or to report furniture which requires service, call Virco toll-free at 1-800-448-4726. Furniture should be wiped down with mild soap and water as needed.
