Highway Gothic Font Poster Print Design The Highway Gothic font poster was created based upon the true font used on highway signs. Upon request to design a poster based on an original font, I immediately had the idea to create a poster based off of the font on the road signs that you may see on your everyday highway. Until I looked up “highway sign font, I had no idea that the font used in creating the signs was a font called Highway Gothic, or that the United States specifically had a font designed for this purpose. I had always assumed they chose an existing font. The original font was designed by Ted Forbes, who
was actually an American highway engineer who desired to create a new typeface that would be easily legible for American drivers. However, because he was not a typographer, the letterforms of his font tend to be a bit clumsy and awkward at times, although he did create the basis for the perfect road sign font. Even with the imperfections, the font remains a staple of our society, plastered across the US highway system. The poster highlights all of the features of the font in a way that makes it appear just like any sign you would see travelling down I-95 on your way to work.
Prisere Branding Style Guide Web / Print Design With only 4 weeks time, the Prisere Branding Style Guide in its entirety was created in Adobe InDesign. The content was provided entirely by the client -images, body copy, color palette, logo, etcetera. The style and layout, however, were conceptualized by myself and two other team members. In total, the branding style guide spans 104 pages in 53 spreads, making it quite large for
was more work than anyone could have imagined, creating a layout with many images and a lot of copy proved to be an excellent way to improve my editorial layout design skills. Currently, the entire manual is only available to view online as a PDF. Due to its size, my team and I were unable to print the book in-house, and will need to send the file to be printed elsewhere. The
what the industry generally considers a branding style guide. This manual is more than just a style guide, and provides brand guidelines for the entirety of the Prisere brand. Although the project
client has already found use for their book during the 2020 virus pandemic, allowing clients to know more about their mission and how they can help small businesses during times of disaster.
Invisible Disabilities PSA Motion Graphics Tasked with creating a public service announcement for a cause near and dear to myself, I chose to tackle the subject of invisible disabilities. This project was created using Adobe After Effects. The idea behind this motion graphics piece is to bring better awareness to those who have illnesses and disabilities that are invisible to the blind eye, such as depression, diabetes, seizures and more. It was certainly a large project to tackle, but worthy of every moment spent conceptualizing, sketching, animating, and editing. Most of my time was spent animating text and creating graphics to
best emphasize the topic at hand, while attempting to remain within the one minute and thirty seconds timeframe. Originally I had intended it to be a longer video, however due to the time constraint I had to cut it short than I would have liked. The PSA contains extensive information on screen as well as audible information. My main focus was making sure that the graphic would be accessible to those who may be legally blind, hard-of-hearing, and everyday people, so that more people will be aware that sometimes disabilities are not as easy to see as many people may think.
Alium Pop-Up Event Print Design Alium was a client who approached my team and me about designing materials for their fall pop-up event. They needed everything from a logo, to a menu, and in just six short weeks we were able to provide them with all requested materials. Heavy emphasis was placed on the seasonality of their event, so for many of the deliverables we included leaves to represent the autumn. We completed several deliverables during this project: logo creation, personalized notecard takeaway sealed with wax, handheld menus tacked onto wood engraved with the logo, a large format
menu, and business cards. Not only did we create the designs for the event, we also personally stained and engraved the wood the menus are on, assembled them, and we hand sealed each of the envelopes with a deep red envelope sealing wax and a brass stamp in the shape of the leaf used in the backgrund of the other delverables. Together, we worked diligently to create beautiful pieces that proved for a very successful grand opening of the Alium fall pop-up event. This project proved to be immensely useful in improving many design and teamwork skills.
1 in 4 - All For One, Help for All Web / Print Design After having been given the task to create a website to advocate for a non-profit organization, I knew exactly what I needed to do. As someone who struggles with mental illness, I knew I had to be an advocate for mental health awareness. To best showcase this cause, I designed three different pieces: a website, a flyer, and merchandise to be sold in an online store. To begin, the logo was created to highlight the fact that one in four adult Americans suffer from some type of mental health issue. From there, I chose the colors green and blue as they are often used for mental health
awareness. I used this color scheme to develop a working website that will both bring awareness to and encourage those who do struggle with mental health issues to seek help. On the home page, resources are provided to seek help, as well as a separate contact page. There is also an about, donate, and shop page to help spread the word. The donate page features a plugin which allows donations to be made. On the shop page, there are several shirts , backpacks, and various theoretically merchandise created using the WooCommerce plugin for Wordpress.
Delivery Drop - Prototype App Design This app was originally design to make my life easier. Delivery Drop is a simple tracking app prototype for delivery drivers to help them track everything they will need to cash out at the end of the night: mileage, trips, hours, and tips. Delivery driving is often a very fast paced work environment, and all of the orders that you deliver are your responsibility to make sure they are correct. If not calculated correctly, that money could come out of your pocket if you are not careful! Tracking tips and trips can be messy and confusing, and there are no two drivers that
track their tips in the same way. By creating an app which tracks all the important information with just a few clicks, delivery drivers everywhere can follow a much simpler system that does nearly all of the work for them. Though specifically created with delivery drivers in mind, with continuous use the entire company should also see some benefits such as decreased order times, increased productivity, and quicker cash outs at the end of the night. With a simple user interface and easy to understand controls, any delivery driver of any age should be able to use this app with ease.
F°CK MONDAY. - Prototype Print Design With so many apps out there for determining weather, how do you choose one that is right for you? Well, if you hate Mondays just as much as me, this one is probably the one for you. This prototype was designed with the idea of accurate weather forecasts combined with not-so-subtle humor, compatible with all device types. With the most accurate weather forecast provided by DarkSky API, the app displays the current weather with a cute icon, as well as the predicted high and low temperature for the day. When you click the button on the bottom
of the page labelled rest of the week, you will be greeted with the same information for the next 6 days -- except for Monday. Instead of the usual icon to display the predicted forecast for the day, there is a sweet little middle finger icon. When it is Monday and you open the app, instead of the usual forecast information, the app will choose a random quote from its database about hating Monday, which was created using a simple JavaScript function. Mondays are by far the worst day of the week, and this app will help to bring at least a little brightness to your Monday.
Around the World Pop-Up Event Print Design Working on the Around the World project with my team really proved to be the ultimate test of design ability. In less than one month, we were able to complete three different menus (one design for the stations, one for the separate event, and then one large format menu), signs and tickets for the different stations, stickers, a digital advertisement, and three Instagram posts. The idea behind the design was to make their event look almost as if you were in an airport, as their menu features dishes from different cuisines. For example, the tickets for each of
the stations were designed to look similar to the boarding passes you would receive preparing for a flight, or if you look at the large format menu poster, it is almost like the arrival and departure board that airlines feature. The designs created for this event are unique and creative and they also show the potential ability of my team’s and my own unique thought processes. This project was effective in helping to improve client relation skills, working under the pressure of a short period of time to work on the project, and how to manage working on a project as a group.
Live Woonsocket Microsite Web Design In just 5 short weeks, the entirety of the Live Woonsocket destination microsite was coded using only HTML and CSS, written using the program Sublime Text. The CSS framework Foundation also helped to most effectively lay out the website and allow for an easier way to lay out the website. Before I was able to even begin to code the website, there was much research to be done to figure out what exactly should be highlighted within the City for prospective visitors such as places to eat, shop, and visit. Once all the information was laid out in front of me, I was able to decide
on other design aspects such as color scheme, layout, photo effects, etcetera. With the help of talented Woonsocket residents, I was able to gather all the photography necessary to effectively showcase some of the most beautiful features within Woonsocket. This site features many different things to do, places to shop, restaurants to eat at, and even places where visitors can book to stay a few nights. Although a small city, Woonsocket is mighty and proud of its heritage, which deserves to be showcased for all to see how beautiful it is.
My Fitness Journey Web Design The My Fitness Journey page was created in order to document my own personal journey with weight loss and healthy eating habits. As a designer, we don’t always have the best diets. The page features all original photography and blog posts documenting just how I am following a diet and exercise regimen to become the healthiest person I possibly can be. As someone who has struggled in the past with health, creating a website surrounding healthy diet and exercise has helped me to gain motivation not only for
my own health, but for careers in the web design field. Each post is separated into categories based on content along with a featured image on each post. Background information about myself can be found on the site’s About Me page, and the ability to contact me is available on the Contact page. The color scheme matches the “fit” theme, using mellow greens to create a healthy atmosphere. Various Wordpress plugins help to support the primary functions of the site and help it to work as intended.
Youtube Intro - Jessica Marie Motion Graphics In my own free time, one of my favorite things to do is create video content. As I have been spending a lot of time coming up with ideas to put into video, I thought it would be the perfect time to test my motion graphic skills to create my own YouTube introduction using Adobe After Effects. I created this piece over three weeks, spending time doing research on other channel introduction videos, After Effects, and discovering my own style of video. From the start, I knew I had wanted something to do with
triangles and a floating bubble effect, which I was able to create with various keyframe effects. By using most of the same colors as my graphic design bring, it helps to effectively tie all of my works together to create a symphony between web design, print design, and even videography. This short 10-second motion graphic highlights all the subjects that my channel does currently feature, and will feature in the future. By creating this piece, my brand will able to flow over into multiple platforms.
CSL Southcoastal MA Web Design The Center for Spiritual Living Southcoastal Massachussetts Teaching Chapter, often abbreviated as CSL Southcoast or CSL Southcoastal, approached my team and me with a bare bones website in desperate need of help. Originally, there was only a landing page with an image, and other blank pages without any meaningful content. My team tackled the task of writing and researching appropriate body copy, while I was behind the scenes building the website first using Weebly, and then transferring it over to Wordpress. By using a custom installation of Wordpress
onto their server rather than using the free page builder that Weebly provides, we were better able to organize the content and provide more features to the client while maintaining the simple page builder aspect by using the Elementor plugin. The website now consists of five pages, each with -- the home, about, practices & principles, calendar & event registration, and a contact page. Following the CSL brand manual, the website was designed from start to finish with one goal in mind -- to show the philosophy of Science of Mind to the world.
