2025: A YEAR IN REVIEW Together we care and make a difference

“At a time where we were caring for Mum and Dad daily and were worn down in ways we barely recognised, you allowed us to step back into the role of daughters – something that we had not been used to for some time.” Patient’s daughter

WELCOME Jersey Hospice Care is an independent charity, and the Island’s only hospice. We are here for anyone with a life-limiting condition – and those close to them – to ensure all Islanders have equal access to the best palliative care and support, when and where they need it. All of our services are available free of charge, bringing vital comfort, warmth, and security to patients and their loved ones, and helping Islanders face end of life with dignity and love. In 2025, Hospice supported 921 Islanders, both in our In Patient Unit, and in the community looking after patients at home, in the hospital or other residential settings; helping families with pre and post bereavement counselling, or through our range of other support services. We are extremely proud of all that we achieved during 2025, delivering the 2024 – 2026 strategy, with a clear and ambitious direction for your Hospice. We extended our reach by establishing an out of hours on-call service which is available to all healthcare professionals needing specialist palliative and end of life care telephone advice while supporting patients overnight and on weekends.

We also launched the Living Well Team, a service designed to support adults in Jersey with a life-limiting condition in the last year of life. The team provide care coordination, advice, and support with any physical, psychological, spiritual or social issues, for patients and their loved ones. We were particularly proud to have held our ‘Together for Hospice’ campaign – the first crowd funding initiative of its scale on the Island. Not only did we raise more than £130,000, but we saw the whole Island come together to support their Hospice. Over the summer we welcomed Rachel Street as our new Chief Executive. Rachel joined us from Heart of Kent Hospice bringing with her more than 14 years’ experience in the community health and hospice sector. We are extremely proud to be part of an amazing organisation with amazing people – be that colleagues, volunteers, supporters, donors and partners – all of whom are committed to providing this vital care and support to our community.

Thank you

OUR VISION AND MISSION Our Vision and Mission provide the foundation of our strategy; and our values are at the heart of everything our colleagues and volunteers do - they underpin what we do, and how we do it.

AURÉLIE’S STORY My husband Simon was diagnosed with throat cancer in the summer of 2023. We got very focused on what we could do – which was go to Southampton and get treatment and radiotherapy. Then we would see from there. The following February, I went for a weekend away in Paris and that’s the weekend when the hospital called him. They told him the cancer was untreatable and terminal and he was told he would have just a year to live at most. Simon had been writing again for the Jersey Evening Post and then he had someone from Penguin contacting him saying “we want to buy a book from you” and from that moment on he was only thinking about the book, which was wonderful because it gave him huge purpose. The book [A Beginners Guide to Dying] is snippets of just what he wanted to say on meditation, charity work and working with others, and building a community and connection with people – things that had helped him. He was just so happy, very much in the moment, not thinking about tomorrow. We were quite clear that he wanted to die at Hospice. I only have wonderful memories of Hospice. I often describe the experience as magical – it’s the first word that comes to my mouth. It’s not terrible. It’s magical because you expect it to be the place of the end, but it’s actually not the end. It’s a transition. Simon died on the 15 July 2024 at Hospice with me by his side.

“Simon’s strongest message throughout his illness and facing dying was “Hey, look at me, it’s happening to me and I am not scared – I’m actually the happiest I’ve ever been.” Aurélie, Hospice Ambassador 5

OUR 2025 STRATEGIC PRIORITIES -

THE ROADMAP FOR DELIVERING OUR VISION During 2025, we worked on the five priorities set out in our three year strategy (2024 – 2026) – extending our reach across our community, creating a specialist centre for best practice and learning, enhancing Islanders’ awareness and understanding of the work of their Hospice, growing and developing our people to be the best they can be, and achieving financial sustainability to enable us to develop the right services for the future needs of Islanders.

Extending our reach across our community GOALS • Enhance and evolve our existing adult services • Confirm Island-wide need for clinical services for children and young people • Lead on public awareness and understanding of palliative and end of life care • Promote Advance Care Planning • Continue to work with Government and other partners to deliver the Island’s first adult End of Life Care Strategy

6

KEY ACHIEVEMENTS Increased demand for our services meant we cared for more Islanders in 2025. We established an out of hours on-call service which is available to all healthcare professionals needing specialist telephone advice overnight and at weekends, while caring for patients. The team received 339 calls during 2025, enabling healthcare professionals and their patients to get access to 24/7 specialist palliative care. We launched the Living Well Team, a service designed to support adults in Jersey with a life-limiting condition in the last year of life, with a focus on care coordination, advice, and support with any physical, psychological, spiritual or social issues. Since the launch in May, the team have supported 206 Islanders.

Creating a specialist centre for best practice and learning GOALS • Continue to drive a culture of continuous learning and improvement in the clinical setting • Continue to develop a competency and career framework to support with colleague development, recruitment, retention, and quality of care • Demonstrate our specialism in palliative care through external events and research

Enhancing Islanders’ awareness and understanding about the work of their hospice GOALS • Establish Hospice as Jersey’s charity of choice for supporters • Grow and evolve support through outstanding two-way engagement and providing superb stewardship to new and existing supporters • Communicate our service offering and the importance of fundraising to colleagues and volunteers

KEY ACHIEVEMENTS We successfully completed the Gold Standards Framework (GSF) Reaccreditation Assessment meaning we were awarded the Quality Hallmark Award, a nationally recognised kite-mark for excellence in care. We received positive reports from Jersey Care Commission inspections of our Specialist Palliative Care Team and In Patient Unit, with no areas for improvement identified. We were approved as a local site for the delivery of the European Certificate in Essential Palliative Care. We supported one of our colleagues to present at the Hospice UK National Conference, showcasing the benefits of bereavement group support for children, young people, and adults.

KEY ACHIEVEMENTS We collaborated with RaceNation to develop and launch Jersey’s first dedicated fundraising platform, JerseyGiving, which focuses on local giving, donor engagement, and ensuring every pound raised for charities on the Island goes further. We actively promoted the work of the End-of-Life Care Partnership Group, supporting initiatives such as World Cancer Day, Connect Me, and Dying Matters Week. We ran the “Together for Hospice” campaign – the first crowdfunder appeal of this scale in Jersey. As well as raising an incredible £134,000, the initiative generated fantastic awareness and engagement across the whole Island and won the Outstanding Achievement Award for a large charity at the Jersey Charity Awards 2025. We will be repeating this in March 2027.

• Break down the barriers that exist around talking about death and dying 7

Growing and developing our people to be the best they can be GOALS • Ensure we have an engaged, skilled, motivated, and resilient team of people • Build a people infrastructure that meets the current and future needs of Hospice and our people • Continue to implement the Volunteer Strategy so our volunteers feel valued and see the impact of their gift of time

KEY ACHIEVEMENTS We successfully recruited 47 colleagues including the roles of Chief Executive, Lead Practitioner for Community Services, and Education Lead. We supported colleagues to achieve 34 professional qualifications. We developed and implemented a Wellbeing Strategy, encompassing initiatives such as delivering Trauma Informed Practice training and Suicide Awareness training. We introduced a new HR system, HealthBox HR, to streamline processes and keep colleagues up to date with information like education and learning and performance management.

Achieving financial sustainability to enable us to develop the right services for the future needs of Islanders GOALS • Grow existing income generation activities and invest in innovative, diversified, and sustainable sources of income

KEY ACHIEVEMENTS We opened our new charity shop in the east of the Island in Grouville. We recruited an Individual Giving and Legacy Officer and a Relationship Manager, both new roles within the fundraising team. We expanded our range of retail stock to include new goods from local makers, branded merchandise, and new, end-of-line goods from local fashion retailers.

• Continue to drive cost efficiency and ensure the best use of our resources, delivering value for money to the Charity’s supporters and partner organisations • Meaningfully reduce the negative effect Hospice has on the environment

OUR FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES Without the generosity and support of our community, we simply could not do what we do. To all those who took part in our events, made a donation, bought a lottery ticket, shopped in and donated to our shops, or put a coin in a collection tin – thank you – you are the reason we can care.

Sales from our three shops in St Ouen, St Helier, and Grouville generate 15% of our income. Our West and Town shops continued to perform strongly throughout 2025 and, with the addition of our third East Shop, increased our income from our shops by 32% from 2024. This is thanks to not only those that shop, but the quality of items donated by our community, which remains our focus.

OUR VOLUNTEERS Volunteers across all areas of Hospice keep our services running.

volunteering has given me that back.” Carol-Ann, Volunteer

OUR EDUCATION SERVICES Our specialist Education Team are leaders in palliative and end of life care education, providing training to Hospice colleagues and across the Island to care homes, home care providers, family carers, and other allied health professionals. In 2025 we extended our education offering, increasing the size of the team to enable the development and delivery of a mini-series programme – a series of short, focused sessions introducing key aspects of palliative and end of life care.

227 education sessions delivered More than 1,000people received training

OUR CHALLENGES We are immensely proud of everything we achieved during 2025; however, we also encountered several challenges that we worked on collaboratively to, where possible, minimise their impact on our services and income. • A changing fundraising landscape requiring us to be agile and even more creative • A decline in quality donations to our shops. We are rolling out an ongoing education campaign to help combat this • As we welcomed new colleagues into both new and established roles, we experienced a period of change and adjustment. This bedding in phase has strengthened our team, brought fresh ideas and skills, and positioned us well to achieve our long term goals
