Life’s Reflections

Truman Jasper Hull, Sr., was born on May 19, 1945, to the late Lucy Mae Jones Hull and Anderson Hull. His sister, Lucille Moore, preceded him in death. He was affectionately beloved as a husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend to whom you could confide. He lived a life marked by faith, service, laughter, and love. Truman Sr. peacefully transitioned from this life surrounded by family and friends at Baptist DeSoto Hospital.

Truman Sr. accepted Christ at an early age at Beulah Baptist Church, which laid the foundation for his walk with God. He was educated in the Memphis City Schools and attended Melrose High School (12-year Society), graduating proudly with the Class of 1963. At Melrose, he played basketball and carried the Golden Wildcat spirit throughout his life. He remained a loyal alum, known for supporting and encouraging the classes that came after him.

After high school, he answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Air Force. He served honorably during the Vietnam conflict as a police officer guarding military airplanes, a role that required vigilance, courage, and discipline. This experience deepened the resilience and commitment that would define his journey. Upon returning home, he began his career at International Harvester. When the company closed, Truman Sr. later found his footing at the United States Postal Service (USPS), where he completed his working years with the same dedication and work ethic he was known for throughout his life.

During these early years, Truman Sr. met the love of his life, Yvonne Smith. Their bond blossomed into a marriage that lasted 54 years, filled with devotion, laughter, and unwavering commitment. Together they built a family rooted in faith and love, blessed with two children, Truman Jasper Hull, Jr., and Yoriann Simone Hull. He was also the proud father of a daughter from a previous marriage, Camilla Hull Jones. His greatest joy was his grandchildren, including his namesake grandson, Truman Jasper Hull III. He deeply cherished his three other beautiful grandchildren: Edgar Rhuland, Carmen Yolanda, and Edmond Randall Jones. Family vacations, cruises, family celebrations, and holidays were among his most treasured times.

Truman Sr. loved life and lived it fully. He was a proud member of a local bowling team, enjoyed playing golf, and never missed a chance to talk about sports, especially basketball, tennis, or golf. As a devoted Memphis Grizzlies True VIP fan and season ticket holder, he built a special bond with those seated around him, turning game nights into a family of their own.

He also treasured reconnecting with his classmates and former coworkers over lunches and reunions. Later in life, he joined his wife at Collins Chapel CME Church-Rev. Roland Johnson, Pastor. He served faithfully as an usher and lifted his voice in the men’s choir even as a patient in dialysis. Even after a prolonged illness, when he was no longer able to serve, he remained a faithful member, blessed to share three more precious years with family, friends, and his church community.

As a student of life, he took joy in learning new things, from sharpening his mind by being an ardent fan of Jeopardy, learning to play chess, and later exploring music with the saxophone. He was so excited when he learned to hold a sustained note, a small triumph that brought him and those around him smiles. His curiosity, humor, and enthusiasm for growth inspired those who knew him.

Known for his unmistakable style, Truman Sr. could often be seen sporting his favorite Grizzlies cap or a sharp, dapper hat for church and everyday wear. He will be remembered for his faith, his loyalty to family and friends, and his joyful presence. His laughter, his stories, and his steady love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

He leaves cherished memories to his devoted wife of 54 years, Yvonne; his children, Camilla Hull Jones, Truman Hull, Jr.(Milandria) and Yoriann Hull; his beloved grandson and namesake, Truman Hull III, along with three other beautiful grandchildren Edgar Rhulund Jones, Carmen Yolanda Jones and Edmond Randall Jones; his sisters, Alexis Denise Hull and Frances Robinson; his brother, Michael Hull; sisters-in-law, Jackie Williams (Tommy) and Cheryl Smith-Body; brothers-in-law, Carl Smith (Glenda)and Phillip Smith (Sandra), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, grand dog Teddy, greats, church family and many friends.

God’s Promise

God’s never promised a life without pain, Laughter without tears or sun without rain. But He did promise strength for the day, Comfort for the tears and the light for the way, And for all who believe in His heaven above. He rewards their faith in His everlasting love

CMemories

If You See Dad in Heaven...

If you see my dad in Heaven He won’t be hard to find. He’ll be the one to greet you first, For he’s a one-of-a-kind.

He’ll be the one with the sofest voice A Grizzlies cap upon his head, Or he’s probably in God’s beautiful Garden, with a shovel in his hand.

You know he was our hero, So will you give him a hug or two. Tell him how much we love him and We’ll see him someday soon.

The Broken Chain

We little knew the day that God was going to call your name

In life we loved you dearly

In death we do the same

It broke our hearts to lose you

But you didn’t go alone

For part of us went with you

The day God called you home

You left us peaceful memories

Your love is still out guide

And though we cannot see you

You are always at our side

Our family chain is broken

And nothing seems the same

But as God calls us one by one

The chain will link again.
