Charlie Edward Payne, III

Page 1

To My Beloved Husband, Charlie, we were suppose to grow old together and we did but I didn’t think you would leave me this soon. We shared twenty plus beautiful years together. You will always be in my heart. Love You Forever. Your Wife, Maria Pops, I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed our last conversation we had while you were in the hospital. Just you and me for four hours. You’ve always been long winded. You explained everything about your whole life to me and tied in all of the missing pieces that I had. You told me about the good things, the bad things, missed opportunities, crazy situations, spiritual things, lessons learned, about friends, and all of your relationships. You’ve always been a great storyteller. I’d always crack up inside because you always referenced your favorite car that I know everybody reading this knows about , that “396”. For some reason most of your stories came from mentioning that car first. You would always say “Yeah, back when I had that 396...”. Even though you absolutely loved cars as one of your hobbies you never knew how to fix them. You even gave some of them names, The Ghost, Black Beauty, and Candy just to name a few. You’d talk about them as if they were human. I know I get my love of cars from you. I’ve always looked up to you and learned everything of what swag is all about. I thought you were the coolest of the cool. You always liked unique things. I could go on and on. We had so much laughter going on I thought they’d put us both out and serious moments too. But little did I know that night you were really telling me goodbye... I tucked you in before I left and we told each other I love you. And as I closed the door you looked me and smiled. Pops I’m at total peace knowing now what you’ve told me and I love and miss you dearly. I will do those things that you told me to do. I know that Paw Paw and Uncle Lee are with you now and y’all are probably up in heaven already cutting up as usual. I’m sure you’ll have even more to tell me when I see you again. Until then I know you’ll be watching over me.
