Portraiture as an art form is almost
as old as the flowers themselves. Portraits depict appearance, but hint at much more. In my continuing love affair with flowers, I want to share the characteristics that thrill me.
When I look closely, I see virtue, majesty, beauty and impossible complexity. Some of the works in this exhibition concentrate on a single, front on view – as a person sitting for their portrait may gaze directly at the artist. Others depict groupings of flowers interacting. To me, every single flower has a unique personality.
