Quickly rising within the ranks of the Church, Lustiger was appointed Archbishop of Paris by Pope Jean Paul II – and found a new platform to celebrate his dual identity as a Catholic Jew, earning him friends and enemies from both groups.

Manya, a stubborn, independent Russian Jewish widow who dreads the thought of being moved into a home, is assigned a helper to prepare her home before Passover. Manya gets an odd surprise when Terrance, an African-American young man, shows up on her doorstep. Manya must make her infamous gefilte fish to prove her independence to her family, so she leaps out of her comfort zone and spends the day running errands and cooking with Terrence. Initially, Manya and Terrence get along like cats in a sack, but eventually, in spite of their equally stubborn and suspicious characters, they learn that help and support often comes from the most unexpected place.
