Fall 2026 Program Guide

jccbuffalo.org

September 6 – December 12, 2026

A MESSAGE FROM OUR CEO Dear Members and Friends, There is something special about the arrival of fall at the JCC. As we enter the High Holiday season, we are reminded of the importance of reflection, renewal, and gratitude. These sacred days encourage us to look back on the year with appreciation, strengthen our connections with one another, and recommit ourselves to building a stronger community. Those same values are at the heart of everything we do at the JCC. As you explore this guide, I hope you see more than a calendar of classes and events. Every program represents our commitment to enriching lives and creating opportunities for people of every age and stage of life. Whether you are enrolling your child in an after-school program, trying a new fitness class, attending a cultural arts event, or simply spending time with friends, you are helping build the vibrant, welcoming community that makes the JCC so special. During this season of reflection and giving, I invite you to consider how you can help shape the next chapter of the JCC's story. Whether through your participation, volunteerism, or a gift to the Shaping Futures campaign or the All For One Annual Fund, your support ensures that the JCC will continue to be a place where everyone can find connection, belonging, and purpose. Thank you for being an important part of our community. I wish you and your family a happy, healthy, and sweet New Year, and I look forward to welcoming you to the JCC this fall.

Starring:

Christian Brandjes

Arin Lee Dandes

Devin Klumpp

Sam Prezioso

In a chilling vision of America’s near future, a white supremacist regime has taken hold, forcing Paul and his teenage daughter, Sarah, to hide their Jewish identities and pass as Christians in a small upstate town. When an elderly woman arrives speaking Yiddish, their carefully constructed world begins to unravel. Suspenseful, heartfelt, and unexpectedly funny, Deborah Zoe Laufer’s The Last Yiddish Speaker explores identity, resistance, and the enduring power of culture, memory, and faith.

LIFE & LEGACY ENTERS YEAR 5!

Life & Legacy is a collaborative initiative that helps individuals and families create legacy gifts, providing a permanent source of support for the Jewish causes we care about in Western New York. Founded on the principle that all of us, regardless of age, wealth or affiliation, can make an enduring impact, this program ensures that you will be remembered by those who directly benefit from your generosity as well as those who will be inspired by your example for future generations. The JCC is proud to have over 70 Life & Legacy commitments, totaling nearly $2.7 million in future permanent endowment funds. These funds will ensure that the JCC continues its vital mission for generations to come.

Support Life & Legacy Here

It doesn’t matter what you have. What matters is what you do with what you have.

- David Feuerstein

My hope is that the J will always be there to help young families who are just starting, as well as being able to provide a true sense of community to its members of every age, from the smallest children to older adults.

- Lisa Allen

JEWISH HOLIDAYS

Please note that holidays begin at sundown on the previous day

12 & 13 Rosh Hashanah September Rosh HaShanah (literally, “Head of

the Year”) is the Jewish New Year, a time of prayer, self-reflection, and t'shuvah. We review our actions during the past year, and we look for ways to improve ourselves, our communities, and our world in the year to come.

Yom Kippur

September 21

Sukkot

September 26 & 27

Yom Kippur means "Day of Atonement" and refers to the annual Jewish observance of fasting, prayer, and repentance. It is considered the holiest day on the Jewish calendar, and is the moment in Jewish time when we dedicate our mind, body, and soul to reconciliation with our fellow human beings, ourselves, and God. Sukkot is one of the most joyful festivals on the Jewish calendar. “Sukkot,” a Hebrew word meaning "booths" or "huts," refers to the Jewish festival of giving thanks for the fall harvest. The holiday has also come to commemorate the 40 years of Jewish wandering in the desert after the giving of the Torah atop Mt. Sinai.

3&4 Shemini Atzeret/ October A fun-filled day during which we Simchat Torah celebrate the completion of the annual reading of the Torah and affirm Torah as one of the pillars on which we build our lives.

Chanukah

December 5 – 12

Chanukah is the Jewish eightday, wintertime “festival of lights,” celebrated with a nightly menorah lighting, special prayers and fried foods. It commemorates the rededication of the Temple in Jerusalem after a group of Jewish warriors defeated the occupying mighty Greek armies.
