THE hargis FAMILY By Lauren Loeb Ungar

ome neighborhoods are chosen for their beautiful homes. Others are chosen for convenience. But every so often, a place becomes something much more. It’s a setting where family traditions continue, grandchildren grow up together, and everyday moments become lifelong memories. For Jamie and Carl Hargis, TerraBella Village is exactly that. Finding a New Village Originally from Meraux in St. Bernard Parish, the Hargises built their lives in a community where family was never far away. Parents, siblings, cousins, and lifelong friends all lived within minutes of one another. That sense of closeness shaped how they viewed home, not simply as a house, but as the people who filled it. When Hurricane Katrina forced the family to leave St. Bernard Parish in 2005, they relocated to Hammond, grateful for a fresh start but still carrying the traditions of the place they had always known. Just three years later, while driving through St. Tammany Parish, Jamie and Carl stumbled upon TerraBella Village. “It was love at first sight,” Jamie recalls. 8 | TerraBella Living

The charming streets, welcoming porches, and walkable village reminded them of the community they had always cherished. Although they immediately fell in love with both the neighborhood and its concept, life had other plans. It simply wasn’t the right time to make the move. But TerraBella never left their minds. Years later, the timing finally aligned. Highland Homes built the couple’s first TerraBella home in 2018, beginning what would become an unexpected journey through the village itself. Carl’s work as an ERP Senior Consultant required extensive travel, and the couple realized they were spending more time away than in their new home. In 2020, they made the practical decision to sell their house and move into the Elan Apartments at TerraBella. By 2023, Carl’s travel schedule had slowed just in time to welcome the first of their four grandchildren. So when a newly built townhouse by Malkemus Builders became available on the village square, it felt like fate. “Living on the square was our dream from the beginning,” Jamie admits, and Summer 2026

the thought of more space for their growing family was an added benefit. Third House’s a Charm The couple knew immediately it was time to make what they call their third—and final—move within TerraBella. Today, their front porch has become one of their favorite places to be. On many evenings, Jamie and Carl settle into chairs or perch on the front steps, watching neighbors stroll by while live bands perform beneath the pavilion. Village events regularly spill into their front yard, turning ordinary weekends into opportunities to gather with friends and family without ever leaving home. But perhaps the greatest gift TerraBella has given them isn’t the music or the walkability. It’s the family. Coming from a close-knit St. Bernard Parish community where relatives were always nearby, Jamie never imagined she would experience that same feeling. Today, four generations of the family all call TerraBella home. Her parents, Dee Dee and Charlie Licciardi, built a Highland Summer 2026

Homes cottage on Beauregard Parkway in 2019. Their son Brock, a fire captain with the Hammond Fire Department, and his wife Kaila built their Highland Homes cottage on Hopscotch in 2024, where they’re raising children Axton and Tatum Grae. Then, in December 2025, son Cass, a teacher and head baseball coach at Archbishop Hannan High School, and his wife, Matte, returned from Youngsville with baby Cooper—their youngest, Charlie, came along in March 2026. “To say we’re blessed is an understatement,” Carl and Jamie agree. What once felt impossible has become everyday life. Evening walks often turn into spontaneous family reunions. Brock and his family may roll by on their golf cart. Cass and Matte might be pushing a stroller with their little ones. Jamie’s parents can often be spotted relaxing together on their front porch. The grandchildren have become the heartbeat of the neighborhood. Most evenings, Dee Dee and Charlie can be found cruising the streets in their golf cart with the little ones, counting ducks and searching for tractors along the way. It’s a simple tradition, but one that perfectly captures the pace of life they’ve built together. connect generations. Jamie inherited her love of cooking from her father, Charlie, making Sunday spaghetti dinners a treasured family tradition. If Jamie isn’t cooking, chances are Charlie is, and everyone simply gathers at her parents’ home on Beauregard Parkway instead. It doesn’t matter whose kitchen everyone ends up in. The important part is that everyone gathers. Those shared meals are often accompanied by laughter, conversation, and plenty of sports. The Hargises proudly describe themselves as a sportsoriented family. Televisions throughout the house are usually tuned to a game, while the family group text buzzes with scores, highlights, and friendly commentary throughout the season. Supporting one another is simply what they do. During baseball season, the entire family cheers on Cass and Archbishop Hannan. This summer, they’ll add another sporting event to the calendar as their grandsons, Axton and Cooper, begin a two-year-old soccer program. Jamie laughs that there will be no shortage of fans in the stands. Between games and family dinners, the conveniences of village life fit naturally into their routine. Jamie, who serves as Assistant Manager at The Reminding Coffee & Creative House, jokes that she has “the best commute to work.” The family regularly walks over for breakfast and coffee, while the toddlers have become regular ice cream customers. On evenings when cooking isn’t on the agenda, The Rusty Pelican offers an easy gathering place just steps from home. Everything they need is within walking distance. If you ask Jamie to describe her family in one word, she doesn’t hesitate. “Loud.”

“What can I say? We’re Italian!” She laughs as she recalls their daughters-in-law admitting that, during their first family gatherings, they weren’t sure whether everyone was arguing or simply having a conversation. The answer? They were just talking. That joyful, energetic spirit fills every corner of their home, from spirited Sunday dinners to grandchildren racing through the neighborhood and evenings spent listening to music from the square. One Zip Code, Four Generations For Jamie and Carl, TerraBella isn’t simply the place where they live. It’s where the life they always hoped for came full circle. After losing one close-knit community to Hurricane Katrina, they found another, one where porches replace fences, neighbors become friends, and four generations are close enough to make ordinary days feel extraordinary. In the end, the Hargises didn’t just build a home. Together, they built a village.

The Stories Homes Hold

After several years in real estate, one thing has become very clear to me: homes quietly hold our stories. They witness birthday dinners around the kitchen table, children taking first steps across living room floors, late-night conversations on back porches, and holidays filled with family and friends. They also carry us through harder seasons—loss, change, divorce, downsizing, and fresh starts. As a real estate agent, I’ve learned that moving is rarely just about buying or selling a house. It’s about memory. It’s about hope. And often, it’s about letting go. That’s why people become emotional about their homes. A home is more than square footage and finishes. It becomes part of the fabric of our lives. Sometimes the smallest details hold the most meaning—the porch swing, the pencil marks on a wall, or the favorite chair where morning coffee was shared for years. Thea Corinne Roppolo

As Thea Corinne Roppolo prepares to leave home for an exciting new chapter, she’s taking with her a remarkable high school career built on academic excellence, athletic achievement, service, and meaningful relationships. Thea is the daughter of John Roppolo and Rachel Ciancia and the stepdaughter of Micah Ciancia. She has two older brothers—Augie and Miles. Miles and his wife, Sadie, welcomed twin boys, Archie and Teddy, in October 2025, making Thea a proud aunt. A graduate of St. Scholastica Academy, Thea excelled both in and out of the classroom. She maintained an impressive 4.58 GPA, earned Alpha Honor Roll recognition throughout all five years at SSA, was named an AP Scholar, and became a member of the ACT Over 30 Club. Her dedication to academics also earned her membership in the National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, National Science Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta (National Math Honor Society), National Latin Honor Society, National Social Studies Honor Society, and recognition as a Hagan Scholar. On the volleyball court, Thea proved herself to be just as accomplished. She was named First Team All-District during her senior year after earning Second Team All-District honors as both a sophomore and junior. She helped lead her team to three district championships and a 2025 state runner-up finish while also receiving Academic All-State honors. Beyond academics and athletics, Thea devoted herself to serving others. She accumulated more than 200 service

hours while serving as a Student Minister, Student Ambassador, and Eucharistic Minister of Holy Communion. One experience that left a lasting impression was participating in a weeklong mission trip to Costa Rica in 2025 alongside fellow SSA students and students from Catholic High. Together, they helped restore a church community while living alongside the local people who partnered with them throughout the mission. Thea loved being involved in campus life and became a member of many clubs and participated in programs including the Color Guard, Active Minds, Doves for Senior Living, HOSA, Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), Animal Appreciation Club, Doves Love DEVO, and the NextGen Finance and Investors Club. When looking back at her time at SSA, two memories stand out: her senior retreat and Rally Day. Her senior retreat was a great moment of reflection and a pivotal time that strengthened relationships with classmates and teachers before graduation. And Rally Day will stay with her as a time she celebrated her classmates and her own sophomore and senior victories. This fall, Thea will attend the University of Alabama, where she plans to major in Biological Sciences. Looking ahead, she hopes to pursue a career in the medical field by attending either a physician assistant school or a medical school. She is excited to meet new people who share her interests while building lifelong friendships. Before leaving for Tuscaloosa, she’s cherishing every opportunity to spend time with family and friends and is looking forward to several family vacations this summer. When she’s not studying or volunteering, Thea enjoys staying active by working out, going on walks, playing pickleball, traveling, shopping with her mom and friends, and, most of all, spending quality time with the people she loves. Her advice for next year’s seniors is simple but meaningful: “Stay involved in your community and make the most of the time with your friends and family, especially if you’re going out of state! It all goes so fast, and you want to make friendships and memories to last a lifetime.”

TERRABELLA MAURIN FAMILY PET

Dixie Maurin

Dixie is a six-year-old mixed-breed dog with a sweet spirit, a big personality, and a story that started long before she ever knew what it meant to have a home. She joined her family at just seven months old after being rescued through Must Luv Dogs Rescue. Her arrival came at a tender time, following the loss of a beloved 10-year-old dachshund, Penny, during the COVID-19 pandemic. The family knew they wanted to rescue again, but hoped to skip puppyhood and find a small adult dog to love. That search led them to a photo of a spotted white-and-brown “Jack Russell Terrier” who had been found living under a house in Zachary, Louisiana. The rescue explained that Zachary has no animal shelter, and stray dogs are often at risk unless someone steps in. Cindy, with Must Luv Dogs Rescue, regularly saves these dogs after being contacted by the community and places them in foster homes until they can be adopted. So the family packed up their grandchildren and made the drive. The moment they met her, everything changed. The grandchildren fell in love instantly, and so did the adults. She was supposed to be a Jack Russell— but she was something even better. A veterinarian later confirmed she was actually a 7-month-old mixed-breed puppy with charming white-and-brown markings and the sweetest little clover-shaped spot that would become her signature. Dixie had chosen them just as much as they had chosen her. From that day forward, Dixie proved to be pure sunshine in dog form. She is gentle, easygoing, and happiest when she is close to her people— preferably as close as physically possible. She is also incredibly smart and seems to understand everything happening around her, even if she occasionally pretends otherwise. Her favorite things are simple and sweet: sleeping in like it’s her job, stretching out on the couch as if she owns it (because she does), and keeping watch from the front porch like the friendly neighborhood greeter. She loves sitting by the window, quietly monitoring the world outside to make sure she doesn’t miss a single important event, especially if that event involves a neighbor walking by. Dixie enjoys short strolls where she can say hello to her dog friends, long rides—especially if they end at the beach—and enthusiastic games of tug-of-war with her toys. She also takes her job as unofficial backyard wildlife patrol very seriously, particularly when it comes to lizards, though she has yet to figure out what she’s supposed to do after catching one. She is famously devoted to her schedule and has a built-in internal clock that is rarely wrong. Mealtime, treat time, and walk time are all nonnegotiable, and she is more than happy to remind everyone if they are even a minute late. She also has strong opinions about seating arrangements— especially her favorite chair—and will politely (but firmly) let you know when it needs to be vacated. Today, Dixie lives a cozy, well-loved life in Terra Bella, where her days are filled with comfort, routine, and plenty of attention. From a tiny stray under a house in Louisiana to the heart of her family’s home, Dixie has blossomed into the perfect mix of sweetness, sass, and unconditional love.

Three-Peat: A Championship Soccer Culture at St. Scholastica Academy

State Champions

Winning one state championship is an accomplishment. Winning three in a row is the result of a culture built on discipline, accountability, and trust. In just his fifth season as head coach of St. Scholastica Academy soccer, Glenn Benjamin, whom the team calls Coach Benji, led the Doves to their first-ever three-peat, the program’s 10th state championship, and a season that earned him Division II Coach of the Year honors and a spot as one of eight finalists for National High School Coach of the Year. For Coach Benji, the championship began with the players’ mindset. “This year was truly special because of the commitment, resilience, and chemistry these players showed from day one,” he says. “Every player bought into the team-first mentality. It wasn’t just about talent—it was about heart, discipline, and believing in one another.” His expectations were straightforward. “Playing time is earned. It’s not given.” With contributors ranging from eighth graders to seniors, every player had to earn her place. The team’s depth also allowed Benjamin to rotate lineups, play multiple formations, and adapt to different opponents throughout the season. The results spoke for themselves. St. Scholastica finished the regular season 11-5-6, allowing just 15 goals while recording 13 shutouts. In the postseason, the Doves elevated their game, scoring 21 goals while surrendering only one, forcing 108 offsides, and adding three more shutouts on their way to another state title. Senior captain Reese Dantin says the team’s greatest strength was its resilience. “The season consisted of a lot of very high moments, but also a lot of low moments,” she says. “The way the team adapted to those low moments is what made this season extraordinary.” Sophomore Molly Montgomery, who scored one of the goals in the state championship match, credits Coach’s belief in the team for keeping everyone focused. “We were on the wrong track, and because of Coach Benji and his belief in us and our capabilities, we pulled it out in the end,” she says. “We worked for the three-peat all year, and we won because of our mental game as much as our physical game.” Coach agrees that mental toughness defined the season. “We battled tough opponents, pressure, adversity—we even battled the flu,” he says. “Somehow, we still showed up the next day and played like champions.” Freshman Lilette Ferrand quickly discovered why the program has become one of Louisiana’s best. “Our team is like a family,” she says. “We have strong friendships, trust each other, and always encourage one another both on and off the field.” That chemistry extended beyond the field with team-building experiences, including a bowling outing at Paradise Alley in Mandeville, strengthening the bonds that fueled the team’s success. The Doves also collected an impressive list of individual honors. Molly Montgomery was named District Offensive MVP, Bailey Tardo earned District Overall MVP, and Adalynn Hebert was named District Co-Defensive MVP and St. Tammany Farmer Defensive Player of the Year. Five players earned First Team All-State honors, while Reese Dantin and Addison Foret were selected to the Second Team. Coach Benji shares that this win was especially sweet because it gave the Doves three straight championships while winning titles in both Division I and Division II. Resse Dantin reflects on her extraordinary senior year, adding that “the true championship came through the relationships we made throughout the season and the work we put in to reach that goal.” Coach Benji just returned from attending the National High School Athletic Coaches Association banquet in Iowa, where he was one of eight finalists for national high school coach of the year, a well deserved honor. For St. Scholastica Academy, the three-peat wasn’t just another championship. It was the reward for a team that trusted its coach, believed in each other, and embraced the process every step of the way. 20 | TerraBella Living
