This month, I’ve had the pleasure of writing about truly remarkable people and places. With a packed list of Leading Doctors on pg, I’m excited to share some highly recommended New Orleans physicians, all of whom have made a meaningful impact on the lives of so many of our readers. As you can see, you voted for them!
This is also our Wedding and Bridal issue, which takes me back 15 years to my own wedding night. Hal and I had the total French Quarter wedding package: a hotel wedding with a blowout rehearsal dinner at The Howlin’ Wolf, with a huge surprise from my in-laws—Mardi Gras Indians paraded into the venue led by the legendary Rebirth Brass Band.
At the time I was married, I was working as an elementary school writing teacher. One of my favorite fourth graders was Katie Queyrouze, a sweet and slightly shy girl who was always respectful. Fast forward to this year, and I see Katie’s beautiful wedding photos on social media—a grown woman, who’s blossomed into a sophisticated bride. We reconnected and on pg. 54 you’ll be reading not only about her beautiful wedding, but also about a moment come full-circle: when you realize the child you knew is at the same stage you were when you first met her.

THERE IS A POINT at every wedding when a collection of moments becomes a memory.
Sometimes it happens when the crowd descends onto the dance floor after the pomp and circumstance of the ceremony, or when the champagne pops, and the shoes come off, and the aunt who swore she wouldn’t dance starts moving like she is eighteen again. Or it happens when the couple are no longer two people, but passengers on this bright, messy, once-in-a-lifetime joinder of friends and family.
That special moment is the one artist Denise Hopkins chases when she paints a wedding. She isn’t interested in the stiff pose or the frozen photograph. “I never wanted to paint the first dance,” she says. “I wanted to capture an evening of celebration.”
If you’ve seen her paint live, you understand immediately that she’s not there to document an event, instead she translates it. Her live wedding paintings feel like a dance, impressionistic and lively, full of color, movement, and human electricity that makes a wedding more than a ceremony, but timeless moments that jump off the canvas.
Hopkins has been painting weddings live since 2015. Hopkins arrives early and walks the venue like a writer taking notes. She looks for the details that only belong to this couple. She explains that it’s the small choices that reveal the true character of the couple and that make a wedding distinct, like flowers that lean romantic or wild, the colors that define the day, the seat left open for someone who is gone but still present, or the second line sharing a celebration with the city.
“I’m always looking for what makes this one their wedding and not just anyone’s wedding,” she explains. She begins with a wash of magenta or burnt sienna, something vibrant and alive, something that turns the blank canvas into a place where even the absence of paint yields color. She sketches the architecture of the space with thinned paint, oil pastel, charcoal, whatever feels right. And then, slowly and steadily, she fills it with people, not as a single snapshot but as the night unfolds.
“It is the detail that matters,” she reiterates, “I am not painting a photograph. I’m capturing the feeling of the time and place.” And because she is painting live, in real time, with real people moving around her, she has made the choice that she is not chasing faces or realism.
“I’m not looking for facial features,” she told me. “I’m looking for body language. Your brain catalogs movements. A hand on a shoulder. A head thrown back, laughing. The way the bride’s mother watches her, as if she cannot believe this is happening. The posture of a cherished friend who flew in, showed up, and meant it.”
Hopkins shows up to do what she does best:

make paintings. It is why her live wedding work belongs in the same conversation as her studio practice. “My ambition is to create a painting that is a cool painting, not just special because it depicts your wedding, but interesting in and of itself. The best compliment I’ve ever had was someone saying they loved the painting even if it wasn’t of someone they knew.”
Hopkins came to art the way many of us come to the things we love, a little late and all at once, not growing up in the classic narrative of the child prodigy who was always sketching. Hopkins’ great-aunt was a Carmelite nun and an artist. At eighteen, her aunt gave her handmade calligraphy coupons for art lessons, and she soon fell in love, earning her degree at Spring Hill in art and English.
Before painting full-time, Hopkins taught art, namely at Mount Carmel Academy run by the same order as her aunt. But, in 2014, Denise left teaching and faced personal trials: a divorce and life as a single mom. Then was when she discovered the “painting a day” movement, inspiring her to make small works and post them online. Those small paintings sold and a collector base formed.
Now, her studio work is fueled by texture, mark-making, the physical pleasure of paint pushed and dragged across canvas. She fell hard for oils and even harder for the palette knife, which turned paint into something immediate, raw, thick with feeling and texture.
She explains that in an era where we live through screens, texture is a kind of rebellion. It is proof that something happened here.

Hopkins’ mark-making can come from anywhere, using stencils not for precision but for play, smeared into wet paint until order becomes atmosphere. She even uses objects from the kitchen and turns them into stamps, tools that make you laugh until you realize the beauty in their impression, like the core of romaine lettuce making a striking floral imprint.
And then there are the birds; Hopkins started painting pelicans when she lived near Bayou St. John, watching them dive again and again, often coming up empty, and going right back to work. Anyone who has ever had to rebuild a life understands why that mattered.
So what does all of this mean for a couple considering a live wedding painter?

It means you are not hiring someone to make a literal record. Rather, you are hiring someone to make a painting that conveys the sensation of the night.
You will have an artist who knows the difference between a wedding as content and a wedding as community. You will have an artist who loves what she does. “Weddings are one of the few places left where happiness is not ironic,” she shares. At weddings, people want to talk, tell stories, and stand near the painter and see the night become a painting. And sometimes, a small miracle occurs. Hopkins recalls a flower girl who sat with her the entire wedding, transfixed. At night’s end, Hopkins handed her the palette knife, letting her paint a flower into the piece. The child’s face lit up. Since then, Hopkins brings a sketchbook and supplies for the kids who sit at her feet and draw the wedding alongside her.
If you want a wedding painting that looks like a posed photograph, there are painters who do that beautifully. But if you want a painting that feels like your wedding, Denise Hopkins is the perfect option.
You can see Denise Hopkins’ work on display at Orleans Gallery, 603 Julia Street in New Orleans, where her solo debut “Outside The Lines” shows her command of texture, color, and the beauty of the birds that have become her shorthand for freedom, resilience, and grace. Whether she is painting a room full of revelers or a single figure at rest, Hopkins is after the same thing every time—art that carries feeling, holds memory, and stands on its own.

FACIAL PLASTIC SURGERY
CLAIRE MELANCON, MD
OWNER OF AUDUBON FACIAL PLASTIC SURGERY
Dr. Claire Melancon is a double board-certified facial plastic surgeon with a reputation for her meticulous approach to cosmetic surgery. Her practice focuses exclusively on facial procedures such as facelifts, rhinoplasty, browlifts, and blepharoplasty, allowing for a high level of specialization and precision. With a strong foundation in both medicine and artistry, Dr. Melancon has built a career centered on refined technique, thoughtful aesthetics, and individualized care.
With an early background in art and a natural aptitude for hands-on work, facial plastic surgery aligned seamlessly with Dr. Melancon’s skills and interests. Her philosophy that subtle refinements can have a profound impact carries over into her practice; Audubon Facial Plastic Surgery, the boutique practice she founded with the intention of creating a highly personalized and patient-centered experience. Every aspect of the surgical journey is intentionally streamlined to support patients through what can be a vulnerable and emotional process, prioritizing comfort, trust, and clarity at every step.
Dr. Melancon is committed to continuous growth, attending national academy meetings and advanced surgical mastery courses each year to refine her techniques and stay current with evolving research. What she finds most rewarding is partnering with patients as they work toward their personal goals and watching their confidence grow along the way. Communication is a cornerstone of her care model—

patients have direct access to her throughout their recovery and concerns are welcomed, validated, and addressed with transparency.
Outside of the operating room, Dr. Melancon is deeply involved in philanthropy, supporting organizations such as the American Cancer Society, Shuck Cancer, and Dress for Success, where she will serve as luncheon chair this spring. At home, she enjoys making memories with her husband and their four-year-old twins, embracing family life, her practice, and community engagement with equal passion.
TIMOTHY RIDDELL, MD
EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT AND CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER OCHSNER
Dr. Timothy Riddell is a board-certified family physician deeply committed to patient care and a lifetime of leadership in healthcare. A native of Slidell, Dr. Riddell has practiced as a family physician with Ochsner in Covington since 1999. Alongside his clinical work, he has held numerous leadership roles within Ochsner, including Trustee of the Ochsner
Health Board of Directors and regional Chief Medical Officer. He is currently serving as System Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.
While Dr. Riddell was originally drawn to practice pediatrics, he suddenly discovered his passion for Family Medicine during a pivotal Internal Medicine rotation. During this rotation, he was able to identify and successfully treat a rare, reversible cause of dementia in an elderly patient. That experience solidified his desire to care for patients across their entire lifespan—as Dr. Riddell says, “from womb to tomb.” In his practice, Dr. Riddell listens closely to patients’ stories and builds lasting relationships not only with individuals, but with their families. He values clear patient communication, often taking extra time to have multiple conversations to ensure patients and loved ones fully understand complex medical decisions.
Beyond the clinic, Dr. Riddell is deeply invested in positively shaping the future of healthcare in our community. He is actively involved in mentoring and training medical students, advanced practice providers, and healthcare professionals, and partners with local schools to support initiatives that advance STEM education. Outside of medicine, his greatest joy comes from spending time with his wife and three daughters.
Dr. Riddell firmly believes family medicine is the foundation of healthcare and remains committed to delivering trusted, comprehensive care that supports individuals and families throughout every stage of life.
STEPHEN E. METZINGER, M.D., MSPH, FACS AESTHETIC SURGICAL ASSOCIATES
Dr. Stephen Metzinger is a distinguished plastic surgeon with more than 30 years of experience and a career defined by technical excellence, patient safety, and comprehensive care. A native of New Orleans, Dr. Metzinger completed his undergraduate studies at Tulane University, earned his master’s degree from the Tulane School of Public Health & Tropical Medicine, and received his medical degree from LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans. He is triple board-certified in Plastic Surgery, Otolaryngology–Head & Neck Surgery, and Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, a rare combination that reflects the depth and breadth of his surgical expertise.
Plastic Surgery offers Dr. Metzinger the opportunity to restore both form and function across the entire body. From aesthetic procedures to craniofacial surgery, breast reconstruction, and hand surgery, his work allows him to treat the whole patient—from the top of the head to the tips of the toes. Central to his practice is a “safety first” philosophy. He operates exclusively in accredited facilities and works only with board-certified anesthesiologists, ensuring the highest standards of care and the safest possible surgical environment for every patient.
Always striving to be at the forefront of his field, Dr. Metzinger is an active member of leading professional organizations, including the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery,

the American Association of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society for Maxillofacial Surgery, and the Rhinoplasty Society. He maintains ongoing continuing medical education through conferences, journals, and advanced training focused on innovation and patient safety.
What makes plastic surgery the pinnacle specialty for Dr. Metzinger is that it allows him to find his true fulfillment in helping patients look better and feel better at the same time. His practice model supports and sustains that desire—he is accessible to his patients, maintains clear communication, and surrounds himself with a warm professional care team. Outside of medicine, he treasures time with his children and his new granddaughter, proudly embracing his role as a devoted family man. His devotion to his family is not mutually exclusive; his patients feel the same dedication to their wellness, as if they, too, are a part of the Metzinger family.
Dr. Allison Hamada is a highly skilled orthodontist with over twenty years of experience in private practice. Dr. Hamada earned her dental degree from LSU Dental School and completed
her orthodontic training at Columbia University. With this highly skilled foundation, she is able to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care at her Metairie Road clinic. Inspired by her father, who was also an orthodontist, Dr. Hamada carries on a family tradition of improving smiles while making a meaningful impact on patients’ overall health.
As a “functional orthodontist,” Dr. Hamada focuses on addressing the root causes behind misaligned teeth. She understands that underdeveloped jaws can contribute to restricted airways, which in turn can affect sleep, behavior, and overall well-being. Her practice is designed to help patients not just achieve straight teeth, but thrive with better breathing, improved sleep, and greater confidence. Dr. Hamada collaborates closely with families and a network of healthcare specialists—including ENTs, sleep physicians, and myofunctional therapists—to ensure each patient receives comprehensive, coordinated care.
What Dr. Hamada finds most rewarding is witnessing the transformation in her patients’ lives. From children waking up happier and performing better in school to families seeing tangible health and improved confidence, the results extend far beyond aesthetics. She is also passionate about advancing interdisciplinary care, creating local educational programs where dentists, physicians, and therapists can collaborate to tackle airway issues. “Orthodontics or dentistry alone can’t correct airway problems, and neither can medicine,” Dr. Hamada explains. “But together we can really heal people.”
Outside of her practice, Dr. Hamada enjoys spending time in nature and traveling with her two daughters, cherishing family moments while nurturing her love for the outdoors. Through her innovative approach, Dr.

Hamada continues to combine the art of orthodontics with a dedication to improving health and quality of life.
A lifelong New Orleanian, Dr. Leni Sumich brings deep local roots and decades of experience to his work in ophthalmology. He attended Brother Martin High School before earning his undergraduate degree from Tulane University, completing medical school at LSU–New Orleans, and his residency at LSU as well. A Board Certified Ophthalmologist, Dr. Sumich specializes in cataract and refractive surgery and has been practicing at Eyecare Associates in Metairie since 2003. His addition to the practice represents a continuation of the organization’s commitment to providing outstanding service, convenience, and affordability to patients.
Dr. Sumich was drawn to ophthalmology early in his career, inspired in part by the influence of his late friend, Dr. William Perez. He believes that listening carefully is essential to effective care and strives to treat every patient with the same respect and consideration he would want for himself. He stays current with advancements in his field by reading medical journals and attending professional conferences.
For Dr. Sumich, the greatest reward is being able to improve a patient’s vision and quality of life. Outside of medicine, he enjoys spending time with family, cheering on the Saints and LSU, and, like us all, celebrating Mardi Gras.

Dr. Amy Grace is a board-certified obstetriciangynecologist at Lakeside Hospital, recognized for her compassionate and relationship-based approach to women’s healthcare. Following her residency in 2005, Dr. Grace relocated from her native Alabama to New Orleans just one month before Hurricane Katrina. “Arriving during a period of extraordinary challenge profoundly shaped my connection to the city.” Dr. Grace explains. “Witnessing the resilience, generosity, and sense of community during recovery left a lasting impression on me.”
Over the past twenty years, Dr. Grace has built a practice grounded in empathy, communication, and partnership. As a mother of three, including one child born with a heart defect and another born prematurely at 29 weeks, she has experienced firsthand the fear, uncertainty, and vulnerability that come with medical challenges. “Sitting in the waiting room while someone is taking care of the people you love most in the world is one of the hardest things I have ever done.” Dr. Grace says. “Those experiences made me a better physician, allowing me to truly understand what patients and families may be feeling, and shaping how I can support them through joyful and difficult moments.”
For Dr. Grace, obstetrics and gynecology is a unique combination of continuity of care and handson procedural and surgical medicine. Being able to walk alongside her patients from adolescence through pregnancy, menopause, and beyond is one of the greatest privileges of her career, and her commitment is evident in her continuing education, specifically on the timely focus of hormone health. She has long believed that hormone replacement therapy plays a vital role in women’s overall health and quality of life. Today, she is working towards certification through the North American Menopause Society (NAMS).

Drs. Russell Hendrick and Parker Velargo bring a shared vision, complementary expertise, and a refined philosophy to the practice of plastic surgery in New Orleans. Known for their meticulous technique and patientcentered approach, the two surgeons are united by a belief that plastic surgery is as much about restoring confidence and function as it is about aesthetics.
“Plastic surgery uniquely combines technical precision, problem-solving, and artistry,” Dr. Hendrick explains. “We were drawn to the ability to restore form and function while also enhancing confidence and quality of life.” That balance— between science and art—has shaped their careers and continues to guide their work in both reconstructive and aesthetic surgery.
At the heart of their practice is a commitment to listening. Drs. Hendrick and Velargo emphasize transparency and individualized care, tailoring every treatment plan to a patient’s unique goals. “Exceptional outcomes begin with understanding each patient’s goals,” Dr. Velargo notes, adding that their focus on safety, balance, and natural-appearing results ensures care is never one-size-fits-all. Advanced tools such as Vectra and Aura 3D imaging allow patients to visualize outcomes and align expectations before moving forward.
Staying at the forefront of their field is a priority. Through national and international conferences, continuing medical education, and close review of peer-reviewed research, they carefully evaluate new techniques and technologies. “We adopt only those that demonstrate proven safety and meaningful benefits for our patients,” they say.
What they find most rewarding is the impact their work has on patients’ lives. “Helping individuals regain confidence, restore function, or feel comfortable in their own skin is incredibly fulfilling.” Clear communication is central to that experience, with the doctors ensuring patients and families are educated, supported, and accessible throughout the entire surgical journey.
Beyond the operating room, both physicians are committed to the New Orleans

community. They support local educational initiatives, and Dr. Velargo participates in the Face to Face pro bono program, assisting victims of domestic violence. They also value time with family, travel, and the city’s vibrant food and culture.
“Plastic surgery is about thoughtful enhancement, not perfection or passing trends,” they emphasize. With the recent addition of Dr. Alexis Schlosser—bringing microsurgical expertise after completing her fellowship at Tulane—the practice is expanding to offer microsurgical and implant-based breast reconstruction, further reflecting their commitment to comprehensive, forward-thinking care rooted in the spirit of New Orleans.

FYZICAL THERAPY & BALANCE
Dr. Kristy Livingston is a Doctor of Physical Therapy with over 20 years of clinical experience, specializing in orthopedic physical therapy while also treating patients with neurological and vestibular conditions. Her career began in college as a physical therapy technician, where she first witnessed the transformative power of hands-on care—an experience that shaped her lifelong commitment to helping patients reduce pain, restore function, and regain confidence in their bodies.
Taking a holistic, patient-centered approach, she looks beyond symptoms to understand how each individual moves, lives, and functions day to day. She blends evidence-based orthopedic treatment with manual therapy, movement-based interventions, yoga principles, myofascial release, and trigger point dry needling to create personalized plans that target long-term wellness.
Passionate about community wellness, she partners with local senior centers providing fall risk assessments and education, empowering older adults to stay active, safe, and independent.

In this issue, we highlight three outstanding Top Chefs from the Greater New Orleans area, each exemplifying what it truly means to take Southern cuisine to the next level. Rooted in tradition yet driven by innovation, these chefs honor the rich culinary heritage of our region while boldly reimagining it for today’s tables.
New Orleans is renowned throughout the world for its food—a city where cooking is more than sustenance; it’s history, culture, and celebration woven together. From timehonored Creole and Cajun techniques to global influences shaped by generations of storytellers at the stove, our culinary identity is both deeply personal and universally admired. The chefs featured here embody that legacy, elevating familiar flavors with refined technique, thoughtful sourcing, and a distinctive point of view.
Each brings a unique voice to the kitchen, but all share a common commitment to excellence, creativity, and authenticity. Their work reflects not only what makes Southern cuisine endure, but also how it continues to evolve—proving that in New Orleans, the future of food is just as exciting as its past.

Tucked away in New Orleans’ vibrant Bywater neighborhood, The Country Club is an iconic local destination where history, hospitality, and style converge. Housed in a grand circa-1884 Italianate raised center hall cottage, the beautiful restaurant, bar, and pool area offer an elegant yet welcoming escape from everyday life.
The kitchen is led by Executive Chef Chris Barbato, formerly of Commander’s Palace, alongside his wife of 24 years, Pastry Chef Lisa Barbato. After meeting at a restaurant in 1998—Mr. B’s—their shared love of cooking and baking became a match made in heaven and a match made in the kitchen for The Country Club restaurant goers.
Chris and Lisa, are you originally from New Orleans?
Chris: I’m originally from Ashtabula, Ohio, but have lived and worked in New Orleans restaurants for 35 years.
Lisa: I’m also a transplant from Kirkland, Washington, but am now a 27-year New Orleanian! What inspired you to become a chef?
Chris: I worked in restaurants while I was in high school, and during this time, I reconnected with a great aunt who had opened up a Culinary School in Baton Rouge. So, after graduation, I enrolled. She loved food and going out and would take me along with her to have some great meals. It really sparked my interest in food and cooking.
Lisa: I used to work for Paul Allen in Washington state, and one day I read a book called “What
Color Is Your Parachute?” That one read solidified my decision; I wanted to cook and entertain. So I enrolled in Culinary School.
How did you come to be a Chef at The Country Club?
Chris: I had a friend who was doing marketing for The Country Club, and he informed me that they were looking for a chef. I interviewed with the current owner and GM and decided that it was a perfect fit.
Lisa: I had recently closed my Cafe and was trying to figure out my next move. Chris was changing the menu up and needed someone to help with desserts. I found that I loved working here and stayed. What style of cuisine is your specialty?
Chris: Being Italian, I tend to use my experience growing up eating the cuisine, and then I add an American Southern twist to it.
Lisa: I love to play. I’ll see something that interests me, that I have never seen before, and take a deep dive into the history of where it originated, what the ingredients are, when it is eaten, does it have meaning? And then I try to turn it into a plated dessert. I also love to take trendy, viral things like a Choco Taco and make it into a fun dessert.
Is there a cooking experience in your career that stands out?
Chris: I have so many, but cooking for a NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) meeting at my previous employers was a thrilling experience. We cooked for the Presidents of the U.S. and Mexico, and the Prime Minister of Canada.
Lisa: I was doing my externship at a restaurant
on Orcas Island, and everything we received came via ferry. Well, on one busy night, our fish delivery was very late, and the chef asked me to go downstairs to fillet the salmon and bring half back up to the kitchen. Well, this thing was at least 3ft long and about 20 inches in depth. The biggest fish I ever filleted was a rainbow trout. I can’t say it was pretty, but I got it done!
What are some unique qualities you possess in your cooking?
Chris: I have learned to adapt. It’s not all about cooking what you want. You need to be able to alter your cooking and styles based on the needs of the restaurant, customers, and the experience of the staff. Being able to rethink dishes gives you the ability to manage. I work hard to share my knowledge with my staff and give them tools they can use to take with them as they grow in their careers.
Lisa: My constant curiosity about other cultures keeps the desserts I create unique and distinct. And, they are truly fun to eat!
What advice would you give to an aspiring chef in New Orleans?
Chris: Be patient, expose yourself to as much as you can, work all the stations in the kitchen, learn everything you can from where you are working, and take those skills with you to your next job. It will take you far.
Lisa: I agree with Chris, learn everything you can. Also, the New Orleans culinary world is small. Be the person people have good things to say about. Be a good team member and be kind.
Tell us about yourself.
Jerry: I am from Lafayette and have frequented New Orleans for as long as I can remember. I love everything about the city, the vibe. It feels like home. While my main restaurant base is in Lafayette, I offer private Chef services and business/ restaurant consulting services around the country, including New Orleans.
What inspired you to be a chef?
Jerry: Although I am a chef, I am a businessman first. I prefer the term “Culinary Artist” vs Chef because creativity inspires me to experiment and create food “art” that just happens to be edible. My initial inspiration came from the necessity (to eat), coming from a big family. What’s your specialty?
Jerry: I specialize in handcrafted, original

recipe, gourmet stuffed baked potatoes (and much more!) based on classic Southern and American dishes.
What Top Chef qualities can we find in your cooking?
Jerry: My creativity, originality, and unique ability to quickly pivot and evolve. I want to learn, and I am teachable. I’m always willing to challenge the status quo, and never afraid to take risks and quite possibly fail. How can we find you?
Jerry: I am Googleable! I’ve been featured in Forbes, Food & Beverage magazine, and Yahoo for my business acumen! I love serving New Orleans! It is my pleasure.

GETTING MARRIED IN NEW ORLEANS is unlike being wed anywhere else. From second lines and storied historic venues to beloved cake pulls, local traditions remain at the heart of every NOLA wedding. Today’s wedding professionals are artfully blending these time-honored customs with modern updates, creating celebrations that feel both classic and current.
So, what’s your wedding style? Are you a Modern Southern Belle, a Country Club Contemporary bride, or more Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler? Each reflects a different take on New Orleans romance, inspired by the city’s rich culture and evolving aesthetic. Below, we share the top wedding trends shaping New Orleans weddings this year.
Just outside the heart of New Orleans in Kenner, Chateau Golf and Country Club offers couples a wedding experience that feels both timeless and deeply personal— an effortless blend of classic Southern elegance and the celebratory spirit the city is known for. Chateau is seeing couples lean into intentional design and unforgettable guest moments, like outdoor ceremonies overlooking the golf course, candlelit receptions, curated cocktails, and late-night comfort food that keeps the dance floor full.
More than just a venue, Chateau is designed to be a place where life’s milestones unfold beautifully, from engagement celebrations and wedding weekends to anniversaries and future family gatherings. What truly sets Chateau apart is its full-service approach. Couples work closely with an on-site Director of Events who guides them from the earliest planning stages through the final send-

off, ensuring every detail feels seamless. With in-house catering, professional bar service, and trusted vendor recommendations, planning becomes less about logistics and more about savoring the experience.
Today’s couples are prioritizing meaning and identity over generic registry items—moving beyond traditional china and stemware in favor of experiential gifts and personalized keepsakes. Think gift cards to mixology classes or customengraved charcuterie boards. NOLA Boards offers both.
“Couples love gifts that celebrate their story—not just utility,” says Mandy Simpson, Owner of NOLA Boards.
Each thoughtfully handcrafted piece is made from beautiful, sustainably sourced woods and can be customized with engraved engagement dates, monograms, or personal messages—making it a timeless gift for engagements, weddings, and anniversaries.
Beyond gifting, NOLA Boards also hosts private bridal

showers, bachelorette parties, intimate rehearsal dinners, and couples’ nights in their new outdoor backyard venue, The Cypress. Be sure to check out SCOOP on page 15 for upcoming pre-wedding cocktail classes.
“We customize your experience and flow to fit your group,” Mandy adds. “Whether you’re shopping for an engaged couple, a bridal party, or a host gift, our team can guide you toward something that fits your occasion, style, and budget.”
In 2026, modern, Southern-minded couples are seeking meaningful, experiencedriven weddings—and that’s exactly what Southern Oaks delivers. This venue is the total package: an all-inclusive, immersive experience complete with on-site event planning, in-house catering, professional staffing, and a wide range of enhancements designed to create a seamless celebration from start to finish.
At Southern Oaks, couples are treated to an unforgettable celebration where classic Southern hospitality meets personalization down to the finest detail. From lavish enhancements like horse-drawn carriage entrances and fireworks displays to curated guest experiences featuring interactive cuisine and live entertainment, every moment unfolds beneath the timeless glow of twinkle-lit live oak trees.
One of the reasons couples trust Southern Oaks to consistently deliver exceptional celebrations is its ownership. “For almost 40 years, our family has been personally involved in every celebration,” explains Stacey Gaudet, Southern Oaks Event Coordinator and daughter of owners Bobby and Sue Asaro. “It’s a place built on family, legacy, and genuine Southern hospitality.” That commitment is what makes every wedding feel deeply personal—never transactional.

Preparing for your wedding day means investing in your skin, and Dr. Christie Kimball and her expert team specialize in delivering a flawless bridal glow. At Kimball Cosmetics, skincare goes far beyond the basics—every facial is a luxurious, results-driven experience, from meticulous double cleansing to soothing lymphatic massage. One of the most talked-about treatments among modern brides is the HydraFacial. Ideal for skincare beginners and enthusiasts alike, and safe for all skin types and tones, this treatment deeply cleanses, exfoliates, and hydrates the skin while gently removing dead skin cells. The mild peel lifts dirt and debris from pores without irritation, then infuses the skin with antioxidants and hyaluronic acid for a smooth, radiant finish that photographs beautifully.
Brides trust Dr. Kimball for her exceptional medical background and artistic precision. Trained in internal medicine at Tulane, with years of experience in high-acuity care, she brings unmatched expertise to aesthetic medicine. Patients consistently rave about her hands-on approach, personalized attention, and warm, relatable personality—making her the go-to choice for a confident, picture-perfect bridal look.

Now that you’re fresh and feeling rejuvenated, it’s time to kick off the wedding weekend with a tongueand-cheek addition to your Contemporary Country Club theme—a rehearsal dinner at The Country Club. This eclectic space is a bywater legacy; housed in a grand circa1884 Italianate raised center hall cottage, the venue blends local art, culture, and design lending a subtle, satirical nod to the expected interiors of a “Country Club.”
With signature cocktails in hand, guests can mingle throughout three beautifully distinct, hand-painted dining

spaces by renowned local artists Cindy Mathis and Louis St. Lewis: the Double Parlor, ideal for rehearsal dinners of up to 50 guests; the Single Parlor, seating 25; and the Lounge. Outdoors, a poolside Secret Garden provides an intimate, laid-back atmosphere complete with a private satellite bar.
Led by Executive Chef Chris Barbato, the Italianinspired Southern menu offers options for every budget— from passed hors d’oeuvres to plated three-, four-, or fivecourse dinners, all complemented by a private-label wine selection. Beyond rehearsal dinners, The Country Club is also perfectly suited for bridal showers, welcome cocktail parties, and bachelor or bachelorette celebrations.
Time to transform into the contemporary queen you’re meant to be, and have Taylor Leonard of Taylor Aynslee Artistry style you and your bridal party. With nearly nine years of experience and an undeniable love

for wedding days, Taylor brings style, heart, and unforgettable energy. Known for her warm demeanor and clear, thoughtful process, Taylor supports every client from inquiry to “I do,” offering not just beautiful hair but a steady, friendly presence on the wedding day. “My communication is clear. I always do a “check in” with my brides on their big day, making sure they know that they have me for more than just their hair—they have an experience, too,” Taylor explains, coming from a background in psychology, a degree she now uses behind the chair to connect, communicate, and calm her brides.
Taylor specializes in elevated, timeless looks that still feel like you—from effortless blown-out waves to Taylor’s personal favorite style now trending: the high, textured “Pamela Anderson–inspired” updo. She believes your partner should see the best version of you, not someone unrecognizable.

For Katie and Taylor, love found them on a blind date they never intended to be their own. Both were simply along for the ride—wingwoman and wingman—supporting their best friends on a first date. But as the night unfolded, it was Katie and Taylor who truly hit it off. That unexpected beginning would become their happily ever after.
On their wedding day, Katie and Taylor exchanged vows at the Covington Country Club, surrounded by family, friends, and timeless Southern elegance. The ceremony was made especially meaningful as it was officiated by Taylor’s Aunt Rebecca, adding a deeply personal touch to the moment they became husband and wife.
Katie was radiant in a blush A-line gown from Yvonne La Fleur, featuring a sweetheart neckline, delicate floral lace appliqué, and a train that flowed with every step. The bridal party complemented the romantic palette perfectly, with bridesmaids dressed in light pastel blue gowns from Azazie, while the groomsmen wore classic black tuxes from John’s Tuxedos.
Florals by Love in Bloom transformed the ceremony into a delicate, dreamy affair. Arrangements featured white and blush roses, ivory hydrangeas, pale peach ranunculus, and subtle pops of light blue delphinium and hydrangea—an elegant balance of color that enhanced the desired gardenparty feel.
The celebration continued at the Covington Country Club, where the reception mirrored the ceremony’s romantic garden-party elegance— blending classic Southern charm with
soft, airy luxury. Guests enjoyed a menu that celebrated Louisiana flavor at its finest, including shrimp and grits, chicken alfredo, prime rib, and crawfish étouffée. Dessert was a stunning threetiered cake from Maurice’s in Metairie, finished with almond buttercream frosting and a luscious raspberry filling. Music by Oh2 Entertainment kept the dance floor full all night long, with one standout moment stealing the show: the DJ pulled Katie and Taylor up on stage to dance alongside her, creating a joyful, high-energy memory the couple and their guests will never forget.
As the night carried on, the celebration didn’t stop. The newlyweds and their friends gathered for an afterparty in the country club’s legendary basement bar—fondly known as “the dungeon”—ending the night with laughter, music, and unforgettable fun. Every beautiful detail and emotional moment was captured by Theresa Elizabeth Photography, preserving the day exactly as it felt— joyful, romantic, and full of heart. Behind the scenes, the couple credits their flawless day to their incredible planner, Amanda Price of Amanda Price Events. From start to finish, Amanda ensured everything was seamless, allowing Katie and Taylor to soak in every moment without worry. From a chance meeting to a thoughtfully planned celebration filled with love, laughter, and personal touches, Katie and Taylor look forward to writing the next chapter of their story together. Their journey has already taken them from a blind date to the altar, and soon, across the world for their honeymoon in Switzerland.

Sean Weiss Facial Plastic Surgery
Madison Gouaux
RHINOPLASTY CAN BE a deeply personal decision, blending physical change with emotional impact. For Dr. Sean Weiss and his patient, Madison Gouaux, the journey highlights how thoughtful surgical planning, clear communication, and artistry can come together to create results that feel both natural and transformative.
“Rhinoplasty surgery can have a tremendous effect on self-confidence and well-being,” says Dr. Sean Weiss. “Recovery is generally fast and the results can be life-changing!” Madison’s experience reflects this philosophy from consultation through recovery.

Medical Condition:
Hypertrophy of the nasal bone and cartilage, overprojected nasal dorsum, and a ptotic nasal tip
Treatment: Rhinoplasty
Madison initially presented with concerns about the appearance of her nose. She was unhappy with its droopy appearance and the noticeable hump on the bridge. Medically, her condition included hypertrophy of the nasal bones and nasal cartilage, an overprojected nasal dorsum, a ptotic nasal tip, slight deviation, asymmetry, and a round shape to the nasal tip. For years, Madison felt her nose did not fit her face, but she hesitated to pursue surgery out of fear that
she might not like the outcome or would no longer feel like herself.
After extensive research, reviews, and careful evaluation of post-operative photos, Madison found that Dr. Weiss consistently stood out. His patients spoke highly of not only his results, but also his compassion and involvement throughout the entire process. From the beginning, she felt confident that choosing him was the right decision.
The treatment plan was an open rhinoplasty with structural cartilage grafting. The goal was to reduce the prominent bridge and bump, elevate and refine the nasal tip, and establish better facial balance. During consultations, Dr. Weiss took the time to listen closely to Madison’s concerns and goals. Using a 3D facial scan, he carefully walked her through the planned changes, ensuring that each adjustment would enhance her natural features. Together, they decided to smooth the bridge, reduce projection, and create a more refined, defined tip.
Surgery and recovery went smoothly, with no complications. Initial swelling and bruising lasted only a few days. Madison described her recovery as smooth, painless, and far easier than anticipated. Dr. Weiss personally checked in with her after surgery and remained present throughout the healing process.
“The nose is more balanced with the other facial features, which allows her natural beauty to shine,” says Dr. Weiss. Today, Madison says a feature that was once her biggest insecurity has become her favorite part of her face, with results that feel completely natural and uniquely suited to her.
Dr. Weiss attended LSU Medical School and is double board certified in facial plastic surgery and reconstructive surgery. He also specializes in deep plane facelift and neck lift procedures. Madison confidently recommends him, noting his precision, artistry, and genuine desire for patients to feel like the best versions of themselves.

neighborhood’s vibrancy. The result is a place that feels less like a business and more like a shared living room—one that just happens to pour great wine.
Jessica’s love of events brings a playful, “extra” spirit to the calendar. From themed tastings and drag brunches to headpiece-making classes, something is happening every night of the week—Open Mic Tuesdays, Trivia Wednesdays, $5 Wine Tastings on Thursdays, and Live Piano Bar sing-alongs every Saturday. And don’t be surprised if a glittered glass of Caymus makes an appearance.
ON ANY GIVEN AFTERNOON in Old Gretna, it’s not unusual to find neighbors drifting into Stained Glass Wine House after a walk, a school pickup, or an impromptu stroll with kids in tow. That sense of ease and familiarity is exactly what drew Jessica Marasco and Derek Illes to the neighborhood wine bar long before they ever owned it.
The couple lived just a few blocks away and were regulars when a casual conversation with the former owners revealed the bar was looking for a buyer. Initially, they hoped only to help keep it from closing. Both had full-time careers— Jessica as a financial advisor and Derek as an audio mixer for film and television— and two young children at home. Buying a wine bar wasn’t exactly on their radar. But as the local film industry slowed and conversations turned toward creative ways to hedge uncertainty, the idea began to
take hold. With a shared passion for wine, Jessica’s past industry experience, and a long-dormant business plan finally finding its moment, they made an offer. It was accepted, and Stained Glass entered a new chapter.
What sets Stained Glass Wine House apart is its commitment to accessibility, both in price and experience. Wines on tap allow guests to sample rare, high-end selections by the ounce without committing to a full glass, while specialized preservation systems keep bottles fresh for up to 75 days. This makes room for adventurous sipping and elevated offerings that might otherwise feel out of reach.
Just as important as the wine is the community behind it. The bar is staffed entirely by neighbors who work a night or two a week, not just as employees but as stakeholders invested in the
The wine menu is intentionally broad, welcoming all palates and budgets. Sparkling wine lovers are especially well cared for, with the beloved “I Veuve Weekends” happy hour every Friday and Saturday featuring true Champagne bottle specials. Pairings come courtesy of St. James Cheese and rotating pop-ups offering everything from smash burgers to oysters.
Current favorites include Carboniste sparklings—particularly a sparkling Albariño and a rouge brut—along with the low-alcohol Que Pop Sparkling Rosé, perfect for leisurely daytime sipping. An upcoming crawfish boil paired with Carboniste’s sparkling orange wine promises to be a standout.
At its heart, Stained Glass Wine House is a celebration of small business done right—laid-back, joy-filled, and deeply rooted in community. Just ten minutes from downtown, it’s proof that sometimes the best last sip happens close to home.
