It’s Not Paint

The Astonishing Felted World of Jen Morgan

THE FIRST TIME I ENCOUNTERED

Jen Morgan’s work, I felt a now-familiar disbelief. At a glance, her works read like paintings—lush, layered, expressive, and textural. One might assume oil, mixed media, or a contemporary hybrid.

But Jen Morgan does not paint. She builds each piece fiber by fiber, thread by thread, bead by bead, creating sophisticated felted works using everything but paint. Through wet, nuno, and needle felting, along with embroidery, beads, yarns, and found materials, her pieces exist in a category of their own.

Morgan’s sudden rise in the art world may seem meteoric, but her journey as an artist is rooted in decades of training and discipline. Raised in Raleigh, North Carolina by a photographer father and painter mother, she knew early on that she’d pursue the visual arts. After earning a BFA in graphic design, studying everything from printmaking to textiles, she built a career in design and marketing, moved to New Orleans, married, and started a family. Then came Katrina. At the time, she was twenty weeks pregnant with twins. The experience left a lasting imprint, shaping the emotional undercurrent of her work.

Years later, another professional chapter and disruption—the pandemic— found her at a crossroads: What do I do now?

The answer came when she took a felting class, just to help a friend fill a seat. What began as curiosity became compulsion. She studied every aspect of the process to understand the sequencing of the medium, absorbing enough to understand the mechanics, then applying her own visual language, focusing primarily on the portraiture of New Orleans culture bearers and the flora and fauna of the South.

That is the key to Jen Morgan. She didn’t become an artist when she found felt. She brought her artistic talent to felt, immediately becoming one of the most important voices in fine art felting.

Her process is both labor-intensive and captivating. Rather than using a traditional canvas, Morgan builds her surface from scratch by layering wool fibers in alternating directions on bubble wrap, then incorporating silk textiles in a technique known as nuno felting. With warm soapy water, she agitates and rolls the fibers repeatedly—“and when you think you are done, you roll it even more.” This process causes the fibers to interlock, forming a unique felted fabric.

Once the background is dry, she begins the imagemaking using a barbed needle, layering fibers to build faces, shadows, and tonal shifts, creating the illusion of paint. She then enhances the work with embroidery, beads, sequins, yarns, and found objects, sometimes adding real buttons or textured fibers for hair. The result is a richly detailed, tactile surface full of depth and intention.

And time. So much time.

Many of her works take 120 hours—others, more. One alligator piece pushed close to 200 hours. The labor is hard to grasp until you see the work up close and take in its intricate details. Her medium is exacting and intensely meticulous. SFor all her efforts, she find true joy in the moment viewers realize it isn’t paint—that surprise becomes part of the experience. What begins as admiration turns into discovery, then appreciation of the labor, and finally a second look with a deeper sense of awe.

That response has propelled Morgan into remarkable recognition. In a short time, her work has gained significant attention both in the broader art world and within fiber art circles, which is an important distinction.

In the American South, wool and fine art felting remains unusual enough to feel revelatory. But even in the global fiber community, what she is doing is rare. Contemporary felted portraiture of this caliber is uncommon. Felted works that bridge realism, symbolism, New Orleans iconography, and fine art are rarer still. Novelty alone can excite outsiders. Respect from practitioners is harder won. Morgan has achieved both. Her Big Chief piece received Best in Show at the R.W. Norton Art Gallery’s Love Letter to New Orleans exhibition, a debut impressive enough on its own, but all the more remarkable given that it was, in many ways, her arrival on the New Orleans fine art scene. She has also received the Award of Excellence for Majestic Pelican’s Perch at the Fall Art Show of the Lake Granbury Art Association, and her work has been recognized in juried fiber contexts as well, including publication in Fiber Art Now

imagery of Black Masking Indians as tribute in which the labor of the felted and embellished surface becomes an echo, however humble, of the painstaking handiwork of the Indians’ suits themselves. Now, fittingly, her work is headed to one of the art world’s grandest stages: the Venice Biennale, where her piece Big Chief—Indian Blue reflects the return of the Black Masking Indians to New Orleans as cultural leaders after Hurricane Katrina.

The significance of the Biennale is hard to overstate— especially for an artist so new to the fine art world in this medium—and when Morgan speaks of the opportunity, her gratitude is unmistakable. As a friend once reminded her, she may be “new” to fine art in felt, but she has been an artist for thirty years. Jen Morgan’s work is a powerful reminder that medium still matters—that in an age of digital speed and AI, craftsmanship and the pursuit of beauty endure. In a culture often defined by sameness and immediacy, her art insists on touch, labor, patience, and presence.

Perhaps the simplest way to say it is this: Jen Morgan makes work that astonishes—first for its beauty, and then for the realization that it is made of wool. Some artists captivate with beauty, others with technical skill. But rarely, an artist disrupts perception entirely, creating work that challenges what the eye sees and the mind understands. Jen Morgan is that kind of artist.

On the heels of the Venice Biennale, Morgan is now at work on a series of portraits honoring cultural bearers alongside architectural pieces celebrating the landscape of her home. At the same time, she will debut her first solo gallery show, The Fiber of Our Community, at Orleans Gallery on May 2, 2026, alongside concurrent exhibitions by renowned artists Andrew LaMar Hopkins and Michie Cooper.

Most strikingly, her works have taken

Did you know that March is National Women’s History Month? It felt especially fitting that, during this time, the incredible staff here at Inside New Orleans was meticulously crafting the issue you have before you—our Women IN Business and Home & Garden edition. For this issue, we had the privilege of working with more than 50 remarkable women, each with a unique and inspiring story about the path that led them to their leadership roles. From entrepreneurs to community leaders, their dedication and passion are evident not only in their professional achievements, but also in their commitment to our city.

Putting together these profiles felt like getting to know each of them personally—almost as if a piece of who they are now lives on the printed page. When someone shares their story, you never really know who might read it or how it might resonate. You never know whose own journey it might inspire.

We are proud to celebrate them and proud to share their stories with you.

New Orleanians know that there is no place like home and I am certainly no exception! Dominican High School and NOCCA are my beloved high school alma maters, and I finished my education at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA - home of Steel Magnolias! Two months before Hurricane Katrina, I moved to New York City where I stayed until well after the Saints won the Super Bowl. It was living in New York during the 2007-2008 financial crisis that initially piqued my interest in the stock market.

My husband and I chose Edward Jones as a place to build wealth for ourselves, which quickly led me to become an Edward Jones financial advisor with an interest in assisting our growing local freelance community. Learning about my clients’ individual needs is something I enjoy so that together, we can develop a strategy to help achieve long-term financial goals. Whether you want to plan for retirement, save for college, reduce your tax bills or need help with estate considerations, you can expect personalized service and customized investment strategies instead of the latest investment fads. Because Edward Jones is a privately owned company, I truly work for my clients – not shareholders – when giving advice and creating strategies.

My husband, Derek - an audio mixer for film and television and I are parents to Scarlett and Grey and our family wouldn’t be complete without our rescue dogs, Baby Colston and Buster. I am also actively involved in the Ecole Bilingue and Arden Cahill parent Communities.

Riding in Cleopatra and marching with the Krewe of Dolly are some of my favorite pastimes during my favorite season, Mardi Gras! When not riding or walking, you can find our family on any parade route or at one of the thousands of Louisiana festivals. Together, we love to travel, cheer on our beloved Saints, and soak up everything that New Orleans and Old Gretna have to offer... especially the food! I formerly served as the president of the St. Martin’s Episcopal’s Moms’ Club and currently belong to The Touchdown Club of New Orleans, Fidelity Bank POWER, and the Irish Network New Orleans.

Evenings find Jessica Marasco Illes creating a space where neighbors can gather and connect. As Chief Operations Officer of Stained Glass Wine House, she oversees marketing, plans events, and ensures every guest experience is exceptional—even down to tasting the inventory.

Jessica and her husband, Derek, invested in the neighborhood wine bar after learning it might close. “We would stroll by with our little ones and stop in for a glass of wine,” she recalls. “When we heard they might sell or close, we saw an opportunity to invest in our community and our neighborhood.”

Under Jessica’s guidance, the wine bar has become a hub for the community, hosting wine tastings, trivia nights, live music, Drag Bingo, brunches, and rotating art exhibitions. Guests can pair their wine selections with artisanal cheeses from St. James Cheese Company, or one of the many food pop ups that rotate throughout the week enjoying a space that feels both elevated and welcoming.

Jessica credits her success to a dedicated team. “We’re a small group of neighbors who all believe in keeping Stained Glass Wine House thriving in our community,” she says. Their efforts have been recognized in Where Y’at? as a favorite, reflecting that very commitment to connection and hospitality. More recently they were the GEDA Best winners for Happy Hour, Cocktails, and New Business and have been nominated for Best of Jefferson in the Wine Selection category.

A proud alumna of Dominican High School and the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts, Jessica draws on her theatre background to craft engaging events and a lively atmosphere. At home, she is a glitter-loving, Dolly-dressing Francophile who treasures family time with her husband and children.

Sheri Baker, Allison Jurisich Rollins, and Monique Ricci

At Acme Oyster House, the story of the restaurant is inseparable from the people who run it. For nearly four decades, Sheri Baker, Allison Jurisich Rollins, and Monique Ricci have guided the iconic New Orleans institution with passion, expertise, and an unwavering commitment to family and team. Together, they are ensuring that Acme’s legacy of hospitality and community continues to thrive.

Born and raised in New Orleans, Sheri Baker celebrated her 40th anniversary with Acme in 2025—a milestone she credits to the company’s family atmosphere and strong team culture. She began her career at Acme in 1985 as a bartender at the French Quarter location, shortly after owner Mike Rodrigue acquired the lease. “It wasn’t just a restaurant—it was a neighborhood institution,” she recalls. “We weren’t just coworkers and customers. We were family.” Sheri later transitioned into the accounting department and eventually became Chief Financial Officer, helping the restaurant expand from one location to five. “I’m one of the lucky people in this world who can actually say I love my job,” she says. “We have grown this small company to a successful business and take much pride in that growth.”

A vital piece of that team is Allison Jurisich Rollins, Chief Operating Officer. “Writing policy and best practices is relatively easy,” Allison admits. “Understanding how to successfully execute them on a busy Saturday night when the pressure is on requires operational intelligence and fluency.” When Alison leads, she understands it isn’t about authority; it’s about alignment. That’s how she operates,

bringing together every pocket of Acme from ownership and operations to HR and finance to solve problems collectively. Her dedication to Acme’s business, and to its food, is deeply personal: her Croatian-American lineage includes her great-great-grandfather Luka Jurisich, one of the first to cultivate oysters in Louisiana.

Like Allison, Monique Ricci, CEO, has a familial connection to Acme. “In many ways, my story with Acme began at birth,” she says, recalling childhood visits when she would roam the restaurant and sit near the jukebox. Coming to Acme in 2009, Monique’s ongoing mentorship with Acme’s former CEO Paul Rotner has inspired her leadership philosophy, one focused on legacy and teamwork: “It truly boils down to family. From our home office to our restaurants, this is a team effort. We all rely on one another.” To that end, she knows the importance of investing in and listening to employees: “If you really want to understand your business, ask your staff. The best ideas don’t always come from the top. They come from people on the floor, in the kitchen, and in the day-to-day rhythm of the restaurant.”

Together, Sheri, Allison, and Monique form a trio of leaders who blend experience, operational intelligence, and visionary thinking. As Monique notes, “Continuing to grow our family culture and hospitable experience has always been—and will always be—at the heart of Acme.” With this team guiding the restaurant, the future looks as vibrant as the flavors that have made Acme Oyster House a New Orleans institution.

Tammy Randles

With more than 20 years in the Louisiana and Mississippi real estate markets, Tammy Randles has built a reputation as a devoted and hands-on leader. Early on, she recognized two passions—investment properties and helping others—and seamlessly merged them into a thriving career as a broker. Today, as owner of Realty Executives SELA, Tammy leads by example, fostering mentorship relationships with her associates. “I’m a dive-in headfirst kind of team leader,” she says, demonstrating through her own client interactions what it means to excel in real estate.

Helping others remains her driving force. Whether guiding a first-time homebuyer or assisting an entrepreneur in securing a storefront, Tammy pairs decades of experience with genuine enthusiasm for her clients’ success. That leadership approach shapes the culture at Realty Executives SELA, where professionalism and attentiveness define every interaction.

Her passion extends beyond transactions. Deeply engaged in renovations, construction, and design, Tammy brings a personalized aesthetic to her projects. She currently has seven new construction homes underway in Terrytown, each thoughtfully designed with its own distinct character.

Never one to slow down, Tammy is also overseeing the renovation of a 216-unit affordable housing complex in New Orleans East. While excited about the transformation itself, she is especially motivated by its purpose. “The property management division of our company works with so many

of the affordable housing programs in New Orleans, such as Unity, Start Corporation, Crescent Care, Hope House, Easter Seals, and so many others,” she shares. “Welcoming these programs into our neighborhoods is essential so that everyone can have a roof over their heads.”

“Now our clients can get the same level of service they are accustomed to with my other companies—Nola Mortgage Solutions, LLC, Nola Renovation Contractors, LLC, and The PestPros, Inc.,” she explains. Clients will also benefit from her insurance agency opening soon.

Helping others, however, does not end when the workday does. Tammy is a devoted mother to two daughters and a proud grandmother to a beautiful grandson. “They are my entire world!” she says. That spirit of service runs deep within her family. Her daughter and son-in-law serve the community through the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Jefferson Parish Fire Department, while her other daughter is thriving with autism and making an impact in the community every day.

At every stage of her career, Tammy Randles has remained guided by the same principle: real estate is not just about properties, but about people. Through her leadership at Realty Executives SELA, her commitment to affordable housing, and her investment in strengthening the community, Tammy continues to build more than homes—she builds opportunity. With vision, compassion, and a hands-on approach, she is shaping neighborhoods, empowering clients, and proving that success is most meaningful when it is shared.

Stephanie Machado-Barto

Exceptional leaders don’t just build teams—they build cultures where excellence thrives. Stephanie Machado-Barto is that kind of leader, engaging her staff at GMFS Mortgage with a clear and compelling purpose: to cultivate a cohesive team of knowledgeable and passionate mortgage professionals.

With more than two decades of experience in the mortgage industry, Stephanie brings a deeply rooted commitment to both her clients and her colleagues. Her leadership is grounded in the belief that success begins behind the scenes—with a well-prepared, well-informed team that understands not just the numbers, but the people behind them. Through Stephanie’s mindful leadership, the values of education, collaboration, and accountability are part of the daily rhythm.

When Stephanie was young, her early love of crunching numbers and fitting pieces together sparked a desire to study business management and information technology. After earning her bachelor’s degree from the University of New Orleans, she continued her education, completing a master’s degree in Business with a minor in Human Resources.

With a comprehensive understanding of both business operations and human capital, Stephanie found the perfect intersection of her skills and passions. She merged strategy with service, carving out a niche in what she truly loves— guiding clients through the loan process and helping them achieve homeownership. That passion and entrepreneurial spirit soon led her to open her own firm, First Choice Funding, in Abita Springs.

Today, as Branch Manager at GMFS Mortgage, Stephanie’s passion still burns bright—even when her alarm sounds at 5:30 a.m. But before she steps into her professional

role, she embraces her most important one: Mom.

Married for 22 years, Stephanie is the proud mother of three—William, 12, and 8-year-old twins, Lillian and Jack—so her mornings are purposeful and full. From curling Lillian’s hair to checking homework and packing snacks, she approaches home life with the same steady focus she brings to the office. Once the children are off to school, she turns her attention to her team.

“I couldn’t see myself doing anything else. I love doing loans,” Stephanie says. Her enthusiasm is mirrored by her staff. From loan officers to processors and administrative team members, each is licensed and committed to guiding clients through every step of the mortgage process. “We make sure every customer is working with someone who can truly help them,” she explains.

Under Stephanie’s leadership, the office culture feels like a family united by shared goals and a deep commitment to customer care. That dedication is reflected in simple but meaningful practices—like returning every client call the same day. “Even if it’s not the best news, we are solution-based and strive to create a plan for each and every client,” she says.

Stephanie and her team are active affiliates of the Home Builders Association (HBA) and the Northshore Area Board of Realtors (NABOR), strengthening their professional ties within the community. Never one to stand still, she is also expanding her expertise through online coursework in AI marketing—an emerging field she hopes to master and integrate into her evolving skill set.

More than a mortgage professional, Stephanie MachadoBarto is a leader who has built a career and a culture defined by excellence.

Jodi Taylor

THE ARCHITECT OF PROTECTION

JODI TAYLOR’S JOURNEY FROM GLOBAL FINANCE TO FIDELIS

In the high-stakes world of elite security, the focus is often on the front lines. But behind the 24/7 operations of Fidelis Protective Services, one of the South’s premier family-owned security firms, stands Jodi Taylor. As Chief Operations Officer, Jodi is the logistical heart of an organization that has grown from a post-disaster “side hustle” into a multi-million dollar enterprise spanning Louisiana, Tennessee, and Mississippi.

A CAREER BUILT ON PRECISION

Jodi’s path to the executive suite was anything but traditional. Before entering the security industry, she built a prestigious 20-plusyear career in mortgage finance. Her trajectory spanned everything from originations to underwriting, culminating in a leadership role on the elite team tasked with auditing the world’s largest bank for their mortgage lending practices following the 2008 financial collapse.

It was this foundation in high-level risk assessment and regulatory compliance that allowed her to take a leap of faith alongside her husband, a retired police officer. “I realized my strength in complex operations and auditing could provide the infrastructure for his law enforcement vision,” Jodi says. “We saw an urgent need for highintegrity protection following natural disasters like Hurricanes Katrina and Ida, and we knew we could fill it.”

THE “FORCE MULTIPLIER” FOR NEW ORLEANS

As they built Fidelis, the Taylors recognized a critical need within New Orleans due to an overtaxed police force. “We don’t see ourselves as a replacement for the police,” Jodi explains. “Instead, we act as a

‘force multiplier.’ Our role is to fill the gap, providing the specialized presence that allows the community to feel secure while supporting the work our local law enforcement does every day.”

Today, Jodi translates her background in rigorous auditing into the “Fidelis Standard” for New Orleans’ most prestigious institutions, including four-star hotels, healthcare systems, private schools, and sacred places of worship. In an industry traditionally dominated by men, she takes immense pride in her role. “Bringing an analytical, female perspective allows me to prioritize the detail-oriented logistics and ‘whiteglove’ hospitality our high-profile clients require.”

HIGH STAKES AND HIGH STANDARDS

That elite service was recently put to the test when Fidelis provided personal protection for arguably the most famous pop star on the planet. “Ensuring a certain ‘Mastermind’ could perform her ‘Era’ of shows in New Orleans required a level of logistical ‘Style’ that our team handled flawlessly,” Jodi says with a wink, “all while keeping our ‘Reputation’ for discretion intact.”

THE ART OF BALANCE

Despite a 24/7 industry, Jodi—a 2022 Delta Leadership Institute Alumni and Paul Harris Award recipient—remains rooted in service. A former CASA coordinator, she finds balance through art, interior design, and gardening. “There is something rewarding about cultivating beauty and order, whether it’s in a flower bed or a complex security contract.” Originally from Houston, Jodi has fully embraced New Orleans. “There is a spirit here that makes you feel immediately at home.”

Dr. Christie Kimball

In a field often defined by clinical routine, Dr. Christie Kimball is reimagining what modern aesthetic medicine can feel like—personal, elevated, and genuinely enjoyable. As the founder of Kimball Cosmetics, she has built a practice rooted not only in results, but in experience, creating a space where patients and staff feel empowered, welcomed, and inspired.

Driven by a clear vision from the start, Dr. Kimball set out to design the kind of practice she wished existed—one where patient care extends beyond outcomes to include comfort, trust, and even a sense of fun. Her approach challenges the often impersonal nature of healthcare, replacing it with an atmosphere that is both refined and inclusive. That vision has proven not only distinctive, but wildly successful.

Her dedication and skill have earned her national recognition, including being named a Top 1% Injector in the country by Best Aesthetic Injectors—an honor that distinguishes her as the only provider in the state to receive it this year. It’s a testament to both her technical precision and her artistic eye.

Today, Dr. Kimball spends her days immersed in the work she loves most: performing injections and laser treatments, with a particular passion for complex filler and full facial balancing—procedures that showcase the seamless blend of science and artistry that defines her practice.

Outside of work, she enjoys time on the golf course, being with family and friends, and life with her two dogs. This year marks an especially meaningful chapter, as she prepares for both marriage and the arrival of her first child.

Melissa Bennett-Simeon

If there is one principle Melissa Bennett embodies, it is an unwavering belief in the power of hope and the determination to succeed. When she set out to establish her own insurance agency three years ago, the first response she received was “no.” Fortunately, that “no” only strengthened her resolve. Within a year, she had built a mid-sized agency, and by the second year, she expanded her team to include three seasoned insurance professionals. The most exciting addition being welcoming her father, Brian Bennett as President in 2025, who has over 40 years experience.

Her agency approaches the complexities of business insurance with the same wholehearted determination. Few things are more disheartening than seeing a business owner forced to reduce staff due to rising insurance costs. Bennett Simeon Insurance meets that challenge head-on every day. With access to more than 150 insurance markets across 15 states, the agency does not shy away from large losses or persistent premium increases. Instead, it confronts them with the rigor and persistence necessary to keep businesses cost-efficient in an ever-evolving economy.

As one of the only women owned independent insurance agencies in the region, Bennett Simeon Insurance differentiates itself in personalized service during the good times and the bad. After larger corporations with service centers abroad have bought out the majority of agencies in Greater New Orleans, her agency is dedicated to staying local.

Dr. Zeena Al-Dujaili

For Dr. Zeena Al-Dujaili, dermatology goes far beyond skin—it’s about confidence, trust, and helping people feel comfortable in who they are. As a double board-certified dermatologist with fellowship training in cosmetic dermatology and Mohs surgery, Dr. Zeena built New Orleans Aesthetics (NOA) on the understanding that when you combine medical expertise with thoughtful, personalized care, you transform not only how patients look, but how they feel.

Early in her career, she was inspired by dermatology’s ability to merge science, precision, and artistry. “Cosmetic dermatology lets me combine medical knowledge with a creative approach to improving skin and enhancing natural beauty,” she explains. That balance continues to make the specialty deeply rewarding for her and, in turn, her patients.

NOA, her boutique clinic, is purposefully designed to feel different from a traditional medical setting—“I wanted to create a place where patients feel comfortable, heard, and confident that they’re receiving the highest quality dermatologic care,” she says. After every personalized consultation, she tailors each treatment plan to the patient’s vision, creating refreshed, healthy, and natural-looking results.

“That is one of the most rewarding parts of my work…seeing that change in my patients, and not just in their skin, but in their confidence,” Dr. Zeena explains, taking pride in guiding that transformation.

Dr. Zeena’s exceptional care and genuine passion for dermatology inspire deep trust among her patients—a trust that remains her greatest achievement and the driving force behind her mission to help every patient feel confident in their own skin.

LaVondra Dobbs has spent her career ensuring individuals and families in southeast Louisiana have access to the resources they need, guiding VIA LINK into its next century of service. The organization traces its roots back to the Great Depression, when volunteers formed the Volunteer Information Agency (VIA) to connect people in need with local services. In 2001, the agency became VIA LINK alongside the launch of the 211 dialing system, which expanded access to health and human service referrals.

As President and CEO, LaVondra leads a talented, solution-driven team, overseeing programs such as the 24/7 211 Helpline, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, the Teen Textline, the Parentline, disaster response, and Louisiana’s most comprehensive nonprofit resource directory. “I am fortunate to work with a team that stays tuned to the needs in our community and is committed to finding creative solutions,” she says. Robin Carubba

Robin Carubba found her footing as the Marketing and Business Development Director of her father’s company, Carubba Engineering, after recognizing a gap in the firm’s marketing and business development efforts. “I noticed my dad’s company website needed updating, so I asked him if I could do contract marketing work for him,” she explains. After six months strengthening the firm’s marketing presence, she “pitched (and interviewed twice) for my current full-time role,” officially joining the firm in a leadership capacity.

As a Carubba working at Carubba, she describes the experience as “both rewarding and a lot of pressure.” She adds, “I love seeing my dad at the office every day. I feel proud to carry the family name and hope to continue the great work my dad and the Carubba team have built.”

As Marketing and Business Development Director, Robin values the creativity her position allows. “Having creative liberties and seeing my work come to life, not unlike our engineers with their building projects,” is the most rewarding part of her job. She emphasizes that “marketing is wearing many different hats— sometimes multiple at a time. Business development is also vital to operations; it’s wonderful to support the administrative and technical teams with my work.”

Robin holds a Bachelor of Science in Textiles, Apparel, and Merchandising from Louisiana State University and a Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Paralegal Studies from Tulane University. She currently serves as Programming Director for the SMPS SeLA chapter and as Board Secretary for VIA Link.

A graduate of Mount Carmel Academy— “go Ragdolls!”—she is also an American mahjong instructor and lead instructor for Mahjong Orleans, sharing her love of the game with the New Orleans community.

Passionate about their work and thriving in a traditionally male-dominated industry, they are creating a space where future generations can gather, connect, and make memories—just as they did growing up at Clearview.

From the start, they shared a strong commitment to their roles and a unified vision for the redevelopment. Fammy, Project Manager, and Tara, General Manager, work in close collaboration, their responsibilities naturally overlapping as they guide the center’s redevelopment. They’ve also built a positive, collaborative environment, approaching challenges with humor and perspective. Over time, their professional partnership has grown into a meaningful friendship.

Fammy joined Clearview at the start of redevelopment,

serving as a bridge between ownership and the project team while combining her passion for construction and real estate. “Stepping into a role where I could do both at a high level felt like exactly where I was meant to be.”

Tara began her journey at Clearview in 1999 as a high school senior—an early start that laid the foundation for her more than 20-year career. In 2004, she became General Manager. “Over the years, I’ve gained invaluable knowledge and continue to evolve alongside the industry and the property,” she shares.

The redevelopment is bringing new life to the property. Longstanding tenants like Walk-On’s, AMC Theater, Target, and Zea’s Rotisserie & Bar will get a facelift, alongside new experiential concepts and retailers. “There are many exciting things ahead—so stay tuned!” Driven by passion and purpose, Tara and Fammy are redefining Clearview City Center as a dynamic destination for generations to come.

Erika Hemphill

Erika Hemphill is proof that faith, focus, and family-first values can coexist with bold ambition. As the owner of eNg Designs and Construction and Boss Babe Consulting, she leads two growing businesses, hosts the Escapes podcast, and manages a full family life alongside her amazing, supportive husband Garland and their two beautiful children, Kipten and Aubrie— all while keeping integrity, community, and purpose at the center of everything she builds.

A small-town girl from Ponchatoula, Louisiana, Erika once believed her life would lead her to a fast-paced career in New York City. Life had other plans. After beginning her career in the oil and gas industry, she realized climbing the corporate ladder often meant sacrificing time with her family. Determined to create a life where success and presence could coexist, she returned to her roots and launched eNg Designs and Construction.

For Erika, construction has always been about more than building structures. It’s about helping families plant roots and create the spaces where life unfolds. “We aren’t just building houses,” she says. “We’re helping families create the place where their stories will be written.”

Today, she finds deep fulfillment in building homes for families who, like her, choose to build their lives and legacies right here in their communities.

As her business grew, so did the number of women and entrepreneurs seeking her guidance. That demand led to the launch of Boss Babe Consulting, where Erika now mentors and coaches women and businesses nation wide. Her message is simple but powerful: the path is rarely easy, and the valleys can be deep, but on the other side of those hard seasons is everything you once dreamed of. “There is no glass ceiling,” she often says. “We decide how far our journey goes. We are the authors of our own story.”

Through coaching, speaking, and her podcast, Erika encourages everyone to chase the dreams that scare them the most—those are what lead to the life they’re meant to build.

The trust her clients instill in her and the growth of those she mentors is the true measure of her success.

Amanda Harpole and Maddie Lamalie

At Sorella Stone, sisters Amanda Harpole and Maddie Lamalie are continuing a family legacy while shaping the future of the stone industry in New Orleans. Founded in 1988, the company entered a new chapter in 2020 when the sisters took ownership and rebranded the business their father had built over the years.

“When the opportunity arose to take ownership, it was a chance to honor the legacy of the business while bringing our own leadership and perspective to it,” the sisters say.

Though both grew up around the industry, each brings a distinct passion to the work. Amanda is particularly drawn to the design element. “Natural stone is true original art—you can’t replicate it,” she says. “I enjoy placing one-of-a-kind pieces into homes where they become defining features.” Maddie, meanwhile, is fascinated by the history behind the materials. “I’m especially drawn to where the stone came from and how it was originally used. Helping preserve and restore those materials is incredibly rewarding.”

Today, their work can be found in homes across the city, alongside projects like ongoing work at The RitzCarlton, restoration efforts near the French Market, and upcoming preservation work at the Merieult House.

The sisters prioritize maintaining a safe and forward-thinking workplace. In collaboration with Tulane University’s Department of Environmental Health Sciences, they conducted industrial hygiene assessments in their fabrication shop. This program ensures the facility meets high safety standards for employees. “Our long-tenured team is the real asset of our company,” Amanda and Maddie say, underscoring a legacy built on quality craftsmanship.

Heather Palmisano

Long before she ever sold a home, Heather Palmisano was memorizing floor plans and touring open houses for fun. Today, that same passion fuels JDB Homes, her successful real estate business built on knowledge, relationships, and an eye for opportunity.

After the passing of her husband in 2018, Heather turned what had always been a personal interest into a career—and quickly found her stride. Now a top-performing agent, she works with buyers, sellers, and investors alike, guiding clients through every stage of the real estate journey. Known for going above and beyond, she often wears multiple hats—Realtor, stager, and even “therapist”—to ensure each client feels confident and supported.

Heather’s listings reflect both her versatility and market expertise. A standout property at 6704 Canal Blvd in New Orleans highlights her ability to present homes at their best, alongside additional residential listings in Metairie and Belle Chasse, and a commercial opportunity on Canal Street.

A Louisiana native, Heather has been recognized as a Top 500 Real Producer in the New Orleans area for four consecutive years. Backed by a supportive Brokerage, FQR Realtors, as well as her new husband and a hands-on family who often helps prepare homes for the market, she continues to grow her business year after year.

At its core, Heather’s business is about connection, approaching every client relationship with authenticity, care, and a genuine desire to help. “Real estate isn’t just my career— it’s truly my passion,” she says. And in every sense, that passion is evident—not only in her success, but in the lives she touches along the way.

Yvonne Pichoff

Yvonne Pichoff founded Evolve Coffee + Matcha in 2020 after leaving a nearly decade-long career in finance to pursue entrepreneurship and a more creative path. At the time, matcha had captivated her, but New Orleans wasn’t as familiar with it, so she decided to introduce it alongside something the city already loved dearly-- coffee. By bringing the two together, she created a concept that felt both fresh and familiar. Born and raised in New Orleans, Yvonne built Evolve to be a place where people connect, teams grow, and the customer experience is continually elevated. What began as a single idea has since grown into multiple locations, with a new Mandeville shop opening this spring. With every opportunity, Yvonne continues to expand her brand with intention.

“What you believe at your core will always show up in how you lead.” For Dr. Ronicka Briscoe, that truth sparked Winning on the Road—built from her doctoral research, which exposed a pattern: high-performing women were expected to deliver in high-stakes roles without the support, tools, or systems to thrive. With a Ph.D. in Executive Leadership, Dr. Briscoe now equips leaders—especially women—with clarity, courage, and intention through consulting, professional learning, retreat facilitation, and leadership development. Allison Hamada

Dr. Allison Hamada is deeply passionate about your breathing. Orthodontics is often thought of as an esthetic improvement; however, Dr. Hamada sees orthodontic intervention as an opportunity to optimize jaw and airway pathways for better long-term health. “There’s an epidemic of jaws growing smaller with every generation, and with that we get smaller airways,” she explains. Children with smaller jaws may mouth breathe overnight, contributing to poor sleep, which can lead to behavioral struggles such as difficulty focusing in school or regulating emotions—signals that the body is overwhelmed by exhaustion. Collaborating with physicians across multiple disciplines, including ENTs, Pediatric Dentists, and Neurologists, Dr. Hamada is reshaping the way patients and professionals think about orthodontics.

Lindsay and Mikel Burns

Molly Meyers and Abbie Crafton

For Crown & Co. founders Molly Meyers and Abbie Crafton, the brand wasn’t created to follow a trend—it was built from frustration and a refusal to compromise on quality. After decades behind the chair, they saw stylists struggling with extensions that lacked longevity, consistency, and true color integrity. Instead of settling, they developed a wholesale extension line rooted in ethically sourced hair and superior performance. Designed for stylists and salon owners, Crown & Co. pairs premium methods— including K-Tips, Tape-Ins, Genius Wefts, Hand-Tied, and Halos— with education and systems that support long-term growth, consistency, and elevated client results.

SpringintoStyle

Springtime in New Orleans is a rich tapestry, motivating homeowners to refresh every corner of their homes. From bold interiors to inviting backyard retreats, today’s homeowners are prioritizing comfort, clean design, and everyday functionality. Whether it’s adding a built-in outdoor grill for gatherings or reimagining a kitchen with wider countertops and improved flow, thoughtful updates are taking center stage. To help bring these ideas to life, we’ve selected trusted professionals from Inside New Orleans Home & Garden Readers’ Favorite—experts who share with us the latest trends in their industries and are ready to turn your vision into reality.

INDOOR LIVING SPACES

Majestic

Interior Specialties

According to Majestic Interior Specialties, this season is all about

embracing bold color, layered textures, and dynamic patterns that bring energy and personality into the home. Natural wood tones and warm, inviting palettes are go-to spring elements, while wallpaper is making a comeback as a statement feature. At the same time, there’s a noticeable shift toward modern and contemporary design, with clean lines, minimalism, and simplicity balancing out the more traditional styles long associated with the New Orleans—creating spaces that feel timeless and refreshingly current.

Choosing Majestic Interior is hiring a true partner; you’ll work directly with the owner, who personally visits you, takes detailed measurements, and helps you navigate through every design decision. Whether you’re selecting flooring, cabinetry, countertops, or window treatments, Majestic helps you coordinate every element so your space feels thoughtfully designed and functionally built to last.

Graci Interiors

Chad Graci of Graci Interiors is seeing a graceful return to the symmetry of classicism in New Orleans homes—only lighter and more relaxed for the season ahead. Known for creating richly appointed interiors that honor a home’s architecture while layering in custom furnishings and refined decorative elements, Graci approaches each project with a deeply collaborative process. They work alongside architects and builders from the earliest planning stages.

Over the past 15 years, the firm has designed a wide range of residences across the city, from high-rise penthouses at One River Place and the Four Seasons Hotel New Orleans to new builds and extensive renovations. That breadth of work continues to inform the firm’s approach.

For Spring 2026, Graci embraces pared-down neoclassical

detailings, complemented by soft plaster-white palettes that brighten interiors and highlight architectural form. Furnishings inspired by antiquity are reimagined with updated finishes, while distinctive stone accents introduce texture and depth. The result is a refined yet airy approach to spring interiors.

Ruffino Luxury Closets

Spring cleaning means your closet, too, and Ruffino Luxury Closets in New Orleans will make upgrading your closet into a functional, beautiful space a painless process. “In a world of cut corners and fast-talking builders, I’ve always believed in a different way of doing business,” says Christian Russell, co-owner. Ruffino is a full-service company, offering custom-designed closets with worldclass materials and craftsmanship. Clients can tour their local facility to preview designs and options, ensuring every detail reflects their personal style. From award-winning materials to expert designers and craftsmen, Ruffino Luxury Closets guarantees a space that’s both luxurious and practical.

Closets By Design

Closets by Design of Southeast Louisiana is another exceptional choice for upgrading your closets, effortlessly transforming any space into a functional and beautiful haven. For clients Leslie and Steven Loeb, the inspiration centered on both function and space—reimagining their office/bedroom into a fully integrated closet with a pull-down Murphy bed. The design balances everyday practicality with thoughtful hospitality, creating a space for their grandson to sleep while also providing

ample room for clothing and more.

“Oasis sat down with me for hours, making sure my vision came to life,” says Leslie, whose deep emerald green walls evoke a sophisticated “green room” aesthetic. From initial concept to precise manufacturing and expert installation, Closets by Design brought the Loebs’ vision to life with meticulous attention to detail, resulting in a space that is as refined as it is functional.

HOME IMPROVEMENT

Gulf South Home Improvement (GSHI) Homeowners looking to sell or upgrade their homes face an important challenge: making the old feel new. According to Paul Baker, owner of Gulf South Home Improvement (GSHI), remodeling isn’t just an option; it’s essential for stepping into modern living.

GSHI has worked closely with every client to create customized designs that blend modern style with everyday functionality. Lately, many homeowners are focusing on upgrading their bathrooms and kitchens— two spaces that can dramatically transform comfort and value.

What sets Paul apart is his hands-on approach. By completing most of the work himself, he ensures every project meets his high standards for quality and craftsmanship. “I have a background in multiple areas of construction, including pools, roofs, restaurants, and home remodeling,” he says. That experience allows him to oversee every detail with confidence.

From fences, decks, and pergolas to flooring, tiling, painting, and full-scale renovations, GSHI offers a wide range of services. Whether it’s room additions, wall removals, home repairs, or complete kitchen and bath remodels, Paul brings versatility and precision to every job.

If you’re searching for a contractor who delivers personalized service and dependable

results, look no further this spring. Your bathroom is waiting.

OUTDOOR LIVING SPACES Exterior Designs

For more than four decades, Beverly Katz, founder of Exterior Designs, Inc., has helped homeowners across New Orleans reimagine their outdoor spaces as natural extensions of the home. Today, the firm’s focus is increasingly centered on lawn maintenance services, courtyard living, and thoughtfully designed backyards.

As a full-service landscape design, build, and lawn maintenance contractor serving the Greater New Orleans area, Exterior Designs approaches each project with both creativity and technical expertise. Beverly, who brings an interior designer’s eye to landscape architecture, believes outdoor spaces should feel cohesive with the home’s style while also solving common regional challenges like drainage and grading issues.

For spring—and moving into summer, Katz encourages homeowners to prioritize structure and usability over quick seasonal fixes. Layered plantings anchored by evergreen foundations create year-round interest, while defined garden rooms, permeable surfaces, and natural stone patios help establish functional gathering spaces. Comfortable seating areas and outdoor kitchens are also becoming essential features for homeowners eager to host family and friends.

With New Orleans’ warm climate and festive spirit, Katz believes the most successful landscapes are those that balance beauty with performance—spaces designed not only to look beautiful, but to be lived in every day.

Oasis Pools & Spas

Every backyard is treated as a personal retreat with Oasis Pools and Spas. For owner Mike Stanton, that philosophy is deeply personal—he recently returned to

his childhood home to build a pool in the very yard where he first learned the craft alongside his grandfather and uncles.

With over 25 years of experience, Mike and his sons, Michael and Nick, combine family values with modern innovation to create pools that are both beautiful and functional. From custom water features and hot tubs to golf putting greens and basketball courts, each project is tailored to the family lifestyle it will serve.

“Pools aren’t just water and stone—they’re where families gather,

play, and make memories,” says Mike. His family-run approach ensures every detail meets the highest standards, blending craftsmanship, care, and a personal touch that only comes from hands-on experience passed through generations.

Paradise Pools & Spas

Having a pool ready at the start of spring means fun can stretch well into October! Pools remain the centerpiece of seasonal design and one of the most sought-after upgrades for homeowners—and that’s where Paradise Pools & Spas shines.

This year, Paradise Pools & Spas are designing backyards that feel like private resorts, blending comfort, style, and functionality. Custom pools with tanning ledges, integrated spas, and spillover features enhance both relaxation and visual appeal, while fire bowls paired with waterfalls or sheer descents add dramatic flair. Combined with LED lighting, smart automation, artificial turf, and travertine, these spaces become cohesive, low-maintenance outdoor retreats perfect for entertaining or unwinding.

The city’s top designers, builders, and craftsmen—from Majestic Interior Specialties and Ruffino Luxury Closets to Oasis Pools & Spas and Paradise Pools & Spas—are making it easier than ever to create spaces that are beautiful, practical, and uniquely yours. This spring, embrace some of these fresh ideas, elevate your home, and enjoy every inch of the season.

IN Better Health

Dr. Zeena Al-Dujaili

New Orleans Aesthetics (NOA)

DR. ZEENA AL-DUJAILI still remembers when Natalie Seeman first came into her office—a patient not just seeking clearer skin, but real answers after years of frustration.

Since her teenage years, Natalie struggled with persistent acne and the scarring it left behind. Despite seeing multiple dermatologists, she was never given a true treatment plan; instead, she was often told her scars would simply fade over time. Determined to find a real solution, Natalie diligently researched providers spent time researching providers before ultimately choosing Dr. Zeena.

At that first visit, Dr. Zeena immediately recognized the severity of Natalie’s condition. “When she first came in, she was dealing with active cystic acne vulgaris—a severe inflammatory form of acne that presents with deep, painful cysts beneath the skin and carries a high risk of scarring if not treated appropriately,” she says. “With this type of acne, early and targeted medical intervention is critical. Over-the-counter treatments are typically not enough.”

From the beginning, the goal was to create a clear, structured path forward. Natalie would use a combination of oral and topical prescription medications to reduce inflammation, control oil production, prevent clogged pores, and eliminate acne-causing bacteria. For Natalie, that clarity made all the difference.

And, as her skin began to improve, Dr. Zeena shifted the focus to addressing the residual redness

and scarring—a step just as important for achieving a complete transformation. Natalie continued her care through the New Orleans Aesthetics’ membership program, allowing her to stay consistent with advanced treatments. “When my acne was cleared up I joined the membership and got microneedling and laser treatments once a month,” Natalie shares.

Microneedling and laser treatments were the next phase. Dr. Al-Dujaili explains that by utilizing Excel V laser treatments to target redness and vascular inflammation, followed by microneedling and CO₂ laser resurfacing, improves the skin’s texture, stimulates collagen production, and reduces the appearance of acne scars. And Natalie’s monthly treatments are key to clearing acne and scarring.

Over time, the results spoke for themselves. “Natalie had an excellent response to treatment,” Dr. Al-Dujaili says. “Not only were we able to clear her active acne, but we also significantly improved her skin texture and overall tone.”

Today, Natalie’s confidence reflects that transformation. “I’m incredibly happy with my results and I feel so confident with my skin now,” she says. “My skin is the most clear it’s been in years.”

She continues to maintain her results with a combination of at-home care and in-office microneedling and laser treatments.

Looking back, what stands out most to Natalie isn’t just the outcome, but also the experience she had and the care she received. “Dr. Zeena is amazing—I couldn’t recommend her more!” she says. “Dr. Zeena and everyone in the office are so kind and made me feel so comfortable every time I was there.”

For Dr. Zeena Al-Dujaili, being a part of the transformation is extremely rewarding. Beyond the surface, patients like Natalie are given back a sense of confidence! “Clear, healthy skin can truly be life-changing.”

IN Love & Marriage

Reina & John

On their very first date, John twisted a cocktail straw into a makeshift engagement ring, joking that he and Reina should run away to Italy and be married in a castle. In that playful moment, both sensed that a fairytale wedding lay ahead. Exactly one year later, John proposed with a real ring, transforming that whimsical joke into the blueprint for their life together.

The couple began planning an enchanted medieval castle wedding just outside of Rome, with a multi-day celebration that would unfold across Italy and ultimately end back home in New Orleans. The wedding festivities kicked off with a welcome party, where Reina debuted two looks: a sculptural Jamemme mini dress adorned with an oversized white flower, followed by a long white silk gown paired with a flowing Selezza London jacket. Guests enjoyed an authentic cheese-making demonstration by local farmers and shared meals served in the castle’s ancient medieval kitchen throughout the weekend.

For the ceremony, Reina wore a custom Pedram Couture silk ball gown with a dramatic twelve-foot train and a hand-beaded veil that shimmered in the sunlight like a halo. Her second Pedram gown, a fully beaded mermaid silhouette covered in crystals, was designed to sparkle beneath fireworks and sparklers later in the evening.

The ceremony was filled with personal touches. A string quartet welcomed guests, while the bridal party wore elegant taupe silk dresses. Flower girls wore miniature versions of Reina’s gown, complete with flower crowns. Reina walked down the aisle to Lara’s Theme from Doctor Zhivago,

her grandmother’s favorite song— one she dreamed of since childhood. Following the couple’s first kiss, a surprise daytime fireworks display burst across the sky.

Cocktails and Italian appetizers followed on the veranda, leading into a six-course dinner in one of the castle’s great halls. After cutting their Italian wedding cake under sparklers, guests were treated to a long fireworks show before dancing late into the night in a medieval ballroom transformed into a disco.

Fifty-five of their closest family and friends joined them, traveling with the couple to Florence to continue the celebration. Before returning home, Reina and John spent a romantic honeymoon in Venice, wandering along canals and getting wonderfully lost in the narrow streets, still wrapped in the glow of the wedding.

The final chapter of their whirlwind celebration unfolded in New Orleans at Rosey’s Jazz Hall. Reina chose a vintage pink wedding dress from Century Girl Nola, draping her in a look that felt like she was floating through the giant pastel flowers designed by their beloved friends and New Orleans–based Wink Event Planners.

Surrounded by even more loved ones, the couple partied to the legendary sounds of The Soul Rebels. They put on an amazing show that had guests dancing all night! In true New Orleans fashion, Reina and John second-lined with guests to their favorite neighborhood bar. It was the most fitting end to a celebration that began as a joke over a cocktail straw and became the fairytale wedding of their dreams.

Acme Oyster House

Where the Oysters Are Hot and the Welcome’s Warmer

Acme Oyster House has been a cornerstone of New Orleans dining for over a century. Originally opened as Acme Café in 1910 at 117 Royal Street, the restaurant was forced to relocate after a devastating fire. In 1924, it found its lasting home at 724

Iberville Street, where the name Acme Oyster House was born and continues to thrive today. Since Mike Rodrigue purchased the restaurant in 1985, it has remained proudly family-owned and operated.

While classic New Orleans staples like red beans and rice, seafood gumbo, and jambalaya remain menu favorites, Acme is best known for its legendary chargrilled oysters. The insatiable combination of smokey oysters paired with their perfected proprietary garlic butter sauce and a blend of cheeses is unmatched.

Love raw oysters? Guests can enjoy both dinner and a show at the Oyster Bar, where Acme’s famous shuckers serve up fresh oysters right before your eyes. Other crowd favorites include generous seafood platters for two or more, loaded with fried shrimp, oysters, hush puppies, onion rings, and French fries. The menu also features a variety of po-boys, including a neighborhood favorite—the Peace Maker Po-boy—stacked with golden-fried oysters and shrimp, and topped with TABASCO®-infused mayo for the perfect kick.

Thanks to Acme’s Food and Beverage Director, Tony Rodrigue, the menu has every item you think should be in a New Orleans-style seafood restaurant. With Tony, the menu consistently evolves; most recently, he spearheaded Acme’s newest menu feature—$10 Po-boy of the Month, a rotating special that allows for creative new offerings and has already become a neighborhood favorite. Be sure to check out Acme’s Instagram or Facebook (@acmeoyster) to see the latest selection. *Excludes French Quarter.

For dessert, classics like Barq’s Root Beer Floats and New Orleans bread pudding with whiskey sauce provide the perfect sweet finish.

Looking ahead, Acme is expanding beyond its restaurant walls. The team is returning as a vendor at local festivals and events, launching a new merchandise line in partnership with Bayou Brands (creators of Dirty Coast), and entering the food truck scene with innovative takes on their beloved dishes.

At its heart, Acme Oyster House is about more than great food—it’s about genuine New Orleans hospitality. Many team members have been with the restaurant for over 40 years, creating a welcoming, familiar atmosphere that keeps guests coming back. People return not just for the food, but for the faces—and the friendly greeting: “What can we get ‘ya, dawlin’?”
