STUDENT ADDRESS I’d like to begin with acknowledging our marvelous teachers, staff, and administrators that have made this day possible and guided our grade through the pitfalls of the past four years. In particular, they have worked tirelessly to adapt to the challenges of the past year and a half, all to ensure that we could continue to learn and connect as a grade. Thank you. If there is one thing that I have learned from my time at Barrack, it’s that you have to seize the opportunities when they present themselves. The magic of opportunity is that you never know what will arise or where the path will lead. Sixth grade me, first setting foot in Barrack, would never believe that I would be standing up here, at this podium, delivering a graduation address in Hebrew. Over the course of years, I have witnessed my classmates growing into themselves and reaching for extraordinary heights. In the graduating class of 2021, we have students who head clubs, publications, and sports teams, students on the forefront of equality advocacy within Barrack and throughout the surrounding community, students who have devoted themselves to making the world a better place through dedication and hard work. As a class, we’ve lobbied in Washington D.C., volunteered with senior citizens and schoolchildren, and done our best to repair and renew our communities.

Our grade is uniquely stubborn — I’m looking at you, our four Latin students, two in French, and our singular Japanese learner. Despite the seeming differences that might drag us apart, such as the best costume themes, sports teams, or, going back to ancient history, what color that dress was, our bickering is only a sign of our bond. We’ve taken the changes of virtual school and social distancing in stride, finding alternate ways to engage and flourish. Ours is the truly memorable senior year, a year where we ventured into tents, prayed for good weather, and picnicked on blankets. Ours is the ability to adapt, to reevaluate, to grow. Today is the end of our journey together as high schoolers, but just the beginning of our lives as adults. We’re scattering across the country, and even the globe, toward our futures. Yet I know that we are all going to carry with us the memories of our time together, the lessons that we’ve learned, and the knowledge that never too far away are the friends that we’ve made, lifelong bonds that will stand the test of time and space.
