HONORING LISA SANDLER

Lisa has always loved volunteering, particularly in her children’s schools and for Jewish organizations. She was very active in the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia’s Young Women’s Division before having children. After 20 years of practicing law with a large law firm in Philadelphia, Lisa resigned her partnership and retired from the practice of law, so she could spend more time volunteering for the organizations that resonated with her. She was thrilled for the opportunity to be substantially more active in her children’s schools. Initially, she was a class parent, volunteered in the classroom, joined class trips, and volunteered at book fairs, and she and her husband, Brad, hosted many class and school socials at their home.

Lisa was on the Board of the Adath Israel Early Childhood Learning Center, where her children went to preschool. She then joined the Adath Israel Board and moved to the Executive Committee as Vice President for Education, followed by serving as First Vice President. She ultimately served as President, during which time she initiated a major capital campaign and worked with synagogue administration on human resources development. Following her presidency, Lisa became cochair of the Adath Israel capital campaign.

When her children joined Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy, Lisa volunteered as a coach for the Mock Trial team and continued as a coach for eight years. She was also PTO cochair for two years, a position that introduced her to the Barrack Board. When she stepped down as PTO cochair, Lisa was asked to join the Board, which she happily accepted. She then joined the Executive Committee and became First Vice President a year later. Lisa started her term as President of the Barrack Board in September of 2021. She was honored and excited to be able to hold the position for four years. She loved working with the members of the Board and Executive Committee – her school “family” – and is beyond proud of all that they have accomplished together.

Lisa and Brad are also very active in the FIDF, cochairing the South Jersey/ Philadelphia Region’s Annual Gala for the past three years, helping to raise millions of dollars. They also cochaired the golf outing in 2024 and the golf and game day in 2025. They joined the FIDF board in 2025. Since moving from their home in Wynnewood this past fall to live in Boca Raton and New York City, Lisa also has become involved with the FIDF in New York City and the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County. Despite her move, Lisa’s ties to Barrack remain strong and she continues to serve on the Board and Executive Committee, as well as several Board subcommittees. She also chairs the Head of School Support and Evaluation Committee.

Lisa and Brad are proud parents of two Barrack graduates, Devon, class of 2019, who is currently working as a senior consultant in the corporate restructuring industry for an international consulting firm, and Aiden, class of 2023, who is currently a junior at Princeton University.

Elon Gold is a comedian, actor, and writer, whose one hour Netflix standup special, “Elon Gold: Chosen & Taken” received wide acclaim from audiences and peers alike and is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video. He has made ten appearances on the “Tonight Show” and recently performed on “The Late Late Show with James Corden.” His routines have gone viral and are shared by millions around the globe.

He has starred in FOX’s “Stacked” and developed and starred in the NBC series, “In-Laws.” Prior guest star credits include “Crashing,” “Frasier,” “Chappelle’s Show,” and “Chelsea Lately”, among others. He was also a writer/performer on ABC’s “The Dana Carvey Show.” Most recently, Elon can be seen in a recurring role on Season 11 of HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” and will be in the upcoming Kal Penn feature, “Trust Me, I’m A Doctor.”

He has also just wrapped filming the titular role in the upcoming feature “The Badchan,” from renowned Israeli director Gidi Dar. Elon has a new 30 minute stand-up special, “Sets in the City: Elon Gold’s Favorite People” available on YouTube and is on a theater tour readying his next comedy special. In December, he sold out the prestigious Paramount Theater in Huntington, NY.

It is our pleasure to welcome you to the Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy's 23rd Annual Gala. Tonight, we gather to celebrate Lisa Sandler’s leadership and vision and recognize with gratitude the many past Akiba/Barrack presidents whose guidance has shaped our school over the years and whose work continues to sustain and strengthen our community.

Tonight’s gathering, themed Our History, Our Future, is both a celebration of our rich past and a powerful affirmation of our future For eight decades, Barrack students have been shaped by rigorous academics, meaningful Jewish learning, and a values-driven community that prepares them to lead lives of purpose and contribution Our graduates leave our four walls equipped with the tools and skills they need to thrive in college and beyond and grounded in the strength of character that fosters thoughtful leadership and a deep Jewish commitment

Throughout her service on the Board, Lisa has embodied a thoughtful, enduring commitment to the school’s mission and future. During her presidency, Lisa provided leadership in developing the school’s strategic plan, helping to define a clear, purposeful direction for the years ahead. She also played a key role in the purchase of our portion of the campus, strengthening Barrack’s long-term stability and foundation. These efforts reflect the character and dedication that define her remarkable service, and we are proud to honor her here tonight.

We’ve been so lucky to have such amazing leadership over the years, and it truly has been a joy to work alongside you, Lisa, on the Board and Executive Committee. Your warmth, insight, and steady hand have made a real difference. You have led with purpose and vision, and your many achievements from shaping the school’s future to solidifying its foundation speak volumes about your dedication. The strength of our community today reflects your selfless stewardship and the lasting impact of your leadership.

As we look ahead, we do so with a strong vision and a profound sense of hope and excitement Our plan to open a premier, independent PreK-12 Jewish community day school in fall 2027, in partnership with Perelman Jewish Day School, marks an exciting new chapter as we work to create a unified school that will strengthen and enhance Jewish day school education for families across our region Together, drawing on each school’s rich legacy, we are building an educational institution that will nurture Jewish identity from the earliest years through young adulthood and serve as a hub for growth, connection, and community in the decades to come

We are also pleased to welcome our keynote speaker, Elon Gold, an accomplished comedian, actor, and writer with a distinguished career in television and stand-up comedy. His work has brought humor and insight to audiences across the country, and we look forward to hearing his remarks this evening.

This evening, we are especially proud to honor Lisa Sandler, whose leadership and dedication to Barrack exemplify the values we seek to instill in our students As a past president of the Board of Directors and a deeply engaged parent of alumni, Lisa has given generously of her time, wisdom, and heart Her thoughtful stewardship and unwavering commitment have helped guide Barrack through important moments of growth and opportunity. I am proud to continue this tradition of recognizing the extraordinary work this institution's teachers, staff, administrators, board members, and supporters carry out. I am thrilled to honor Lisa B. Sandler for her commitment to this school and community

Since its founding as Akiba Hebrew Academy in 1946, Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy has continued to foster a tradition of academic excellence while celebrating the richness of Judaism's language, culture, history, and strong connection to Israel. Lisa Sandler has advanced these traits through their collective work in children’s education and by offering valuable leadership as President of the Barrack Board of Directors. She served as the first Vice President for the Adath Israel Board and subsequently as President – during which she initiated a major capital campaign and vigorously worked alongside synagogue administration on human resources development. Lisa has spent her time bettering the lives of those around her by uplifting voices, providing mentorship, and serving as an example to others. I am confident that the work of this Academy and this exceptional community leader will inspire others throughout our Commonwealth for many years to come

It is a pleasure to welcome you to the 23rd annual Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy Gala. This prestigious event benefits this valuable education center that has grown tremendously from its founding in 1946 with 20 students and five teachers at the YMHA at Broad and Pine Streets in Philadelphia and now has hundreds of students at its remarkable 35-acre facility in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania.

The continuous growth and vitality of the Jack M. Barrack Academy is a testament to the Philadelphia Jewish community’s dedication to preserving and teaching its important values and traditions. The City of Philadelphia is very proud of its long tradition in support of diversity and long history of Jewish immigrants who have thrived here. Our city has one of the largest and most vibrant Jewish communities in the country.

I wish to recognize the event’s honoree Lisa B. Sandler. She has devoted her life to service, embracing a deep involvement after retiring from her law practice. At Congregation Adath Israel in Wynnewood, she began on the Board of the Early Childhood Learning Center before advancing to key roles as Vice President and President of the Executive Committee. The Sandlers take great pride in their children, both graduates of the Jack M. Barrack Academy: Devon, class of 2019, now a senior consultant at an international firm, and Aiden, class of 2023, currently a junior at Princeton University. That connection increased Lisa’s commitment with the institution, leading her to coach the mock trial team, co-chairing the Parent-Teacher Organization, and later serving as First Vice President and President.

This year’s gala will feature storyteller and comedian Elan Gold, known for his acclaimed Netflix special Elon Gold: Chosen & Taken, currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video. He has also appeared on The Tonight Show, The Late Late Show with James Corden, Stacked, In-Laws, and many other popular programs.

A Tribute to Lisa Sandler

There are people who give to a cause, and then there are people who become inseparable from it who pour their heart, their time, their vision, and their love into something greater than themselves. My wife, Lisa Sandler, is that rare and extraordinary person.

When our two children, Devon and Aiden, began their journeys at Barrack Hebrew Academy, Lisa did not simply become a parent of children attending Barrack she became its champion. She saw in Barrack not just a school, but a sacred community: a place where Jewish identity is nurtured, where young minds are shaped to become leaders, and where children learn to stand for something meaningful. That commitment led her to the Board of Directors, where she would serve as Board President for the longest tenure in the school’s history. For years, she was the steady hand guiding Barrack through challenges and triumphs alike making difficult decisions with vision, wisdom, and care, always keeping the students, faculty, and mission of Jewish education at the center of every choice. She brought together parents, educators, and community leaders with the warmth of someone who truly believes we are all in this together.

But to speak of Lisa only in the context of her leadership would be to miss half the story. Those of us fortunate enough to love her know that her work at Barrack is simply an extension of who she is. She is warm and caring in a way that makes everyone around her feel seen. She is thoughtful the kind of person who remembers what matters to you and shows up for it. She is smart and decisive, yet never loses her capacity for kindness and fun. She is dedicated to the people and causes she believes in with a depth that is both humbling and inspiring. And she is, above all, loving in our home, in our community, and in every room she walks into.

Twenty-five years of marriage have taught me that I am the luckiest person in the world. To watch Lisa give so generously of herself to the Jewish Community, to Barrack Hebrew Academy, and to the Jewish community has been one of the great privileges of my life.

Tonight, Barrack Hebrew Academy honors Lisa Sandler. I could not be prouder.
