Jason Pruet
Jason Pruet is a physicist and technology leader with more than 20 years of experience in science, national security, and public service. He holds a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of California, San Diego, where his research explored astrophysics and nucleosynthesis. His early work focused on gamma-ray bursts and the role of weak processes in their engines and fireballs. After completing his doctorate, he joined Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory as a postdoctoral researcher through a SciDAC Supernova grant. He later became group leader for computational nuclear physics, contributing to national security missions in stockpile stewardship, atomic detection technologies, and forensic attribution. In 2011, he transitioned to federal service with the Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration. There, he managed programs such as the Primary Assessment Campaign and the Physics and Engineering Models Campaign and helped establish the Capabilities for Nuclear Intelligence program. He later led an intelligence branch within the DOE, assessing foreign nuclear weapons programs, earning awards from the Secretary of Energy and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. After nearly a decade in Washington, Jason moved to Los Alamos National Laboratory, where he led the Advanced Simulation and Computing program and became founding director of the National Security AI Office, focusing on advancing artificial intelligence for Science, Energy, and Security. In 2025, Jason Pruet from OpenAI joined the Mission Alignment team, supporting the company’s goal of ensuring AI benefits humanity. Throughout his career, he has combined science, leadership, and public service to help technology responsibly serve national and global interests.
