Project Type: Individual work (Academic) Instructor: Hongyi Wang (wanghongyi@suda.edu.cn)

The rural area I used to live in was demolished and turned into a city. Life here feels completely different now. I've faced many challenges.

I’ve always lived in the city, and the pressure here can be overwhelming. really wish there was a space where I could grow my own plants.

The planting tower operates entirely on this system. Rainwater is collected at the top, flows down to nourish the vegetables, passes through the fish pond, and continues to water the plants below, efficiently reusing water at each level.

Liuyuan Space Characteristics

Liuyuan, envisioned as a utopian residence by ancient Chinese scholars, embodies a uniquely immersive spatial experience. This design seeks to distill its key spatial qualities and reinterpret its distinctive garden essence within the confines of modern compact urban living.

Typology of Liuyuan's Space

Extract the key spatial sequences of Liuyuan Garden, analyze its sightlines and landscape features, and adapt them into residential spaces optimized for modern compact living conditions.

Spatial Organization Around the Central Garden

All the relatively public activity areas are arranged around the large garden. Based on the needs of work and life, the garden is divided into two parts by a corridor and a small pavilion.

The yard size grows with the interior space, offering larger areas and more open views.

This sequence is designed for exploring the beauty of surroundings. It contains both interior and exterior areas, providing a feeling of wandering through mountains. Besides, it offers varying experience at different spots. People can take a glimpse of a sacred ancient gardeon at the top.

On the side near the six-floor apartment, the museum is tall enough to help form a contemparary street scene.
On the side near Shi Zi Lin, the museum is relatively short, trying to reflect the scale of traditional Suzhou streets and alleys.
