Recent photo works

fulgēre presents a new suite of unique dye sublimation photographic prints on brushed aluminium in artist designed frames, alongside earlier examples from late 2025, as well as two textile editions on unstretched satin. The works cumulatively traverse the zone between an abstraction formed by time’s fertile ruination, and the luminosity of refulgent light through layers of base materiality, whilst gesturing outward toward a certain seductive, if fractured beauty. Think ‘ex-utopia’.

Derived from images caught during happenstance encounters with the urban texture of lowdown, forsaken or redundant, they also obliquely refer to the inevitable passing from the pristine manufacture into the realms of the abject.

Fracture sits at the centre of this character, whether through the forces of time, chemical transformation, or the expansion and contraction of base

in opposition to filmic skin. As such their imagery mirrors their sources innate materiality.

* fulgēre is a Latin verb meaning ‘to shine brightly’. It is the root of several English words including effulgent (radiant).

* Dye sublimation is a printing method that uses heat to turn ink into gas, subsequently embedding it directly into coated surfaces such as aluminium.

Aluminium, a highly abundant silverwhite metallic element, dull and leaden when raw, but highly reactive to ambient light in its burnished and polished state, forms the luminous base of these dye sublimation prints. Satin, a similarly luminous material, forms the basis of the two large free-hanging ‘banners’, also painterly in intent and diaphanous in encounter. Collectively evoking microphotography, Arte Povera, ‘matterism’ and romanticism, they nevertheless hold close to the fidelity of their ‘capture’, suggestive of shifting dichotomies between material and chemical, scale and aspect.
