Dravet Syndrome is a life limiting epileptic condition, sometimes referred to as a catastrophic epilepsy. Dravet syndrome affects approximately 1 in 19,000 people. Normally the first seizure takes place in the first year of life. These seizures can be very severe, and require emergency intervention. Many of which require emergency trips to hospital and stays in intensive care units on life support. This can occur at any time of the day or night without warning. It is therefore vital that children with Dravet syndrome have access to monitoring equipment to alert to night time seizures. Since 2009 Dravet Syndrome UK have been funding Pulse Oximeters for families as a way of monitoring Dravet children and adults throughout the night. The pulse oximeter monitors cost ÂŁ600 each, and help provide some

peace of mind to families throughout the night - these monitors truly are life savers. Dravet Syndrome also effects speech, mobility, eating, development - in short it effects every aspect of life. Children do not 'grow out' of Dravet syndrome, the prognosis is very poor and there is currently no cure. It also has an alarmingly high risk of SUDEP (Sudden unexplained death in epilepsy). We really want to help chang e this and any money raised wil l help provide funds for monit ors as well as the charities other aim of funding medical research into Dravet Syndrome to further the understanding of the condit ion which will help improve the lives of those affected and also giv e families hope for the future.
