history Holme Hall is a grade I listed manor house situated in the Peak District just outside Bakewell on rising ground, on the opposite bank of the river Wye. Incorporating an earlier Tudor house, the main part of the present hall was built in 1626-1628 by Bernard Wells, a lead merchant originally from Gloucestershire. The main hall was based on Robert Smythson's designs for smaller Italianate villas on a square plan format. The gardens have been restored to their original layout, facilitated by very detailed sketches and plans including tree plantings and a poem about the estate (which includes various references to specific flowers in the garden) from the early 18th century. The hall with its wonderfully panelled and many contemporary features is a wonderful example of its period.

Born free's history In 1966, Virginia McKenna and Bill Travers starred in the classic wildlife film Born Free. The film told the true story of conservationists Joy and George Adamson who rescued a lioness cub called Elsa and successfully returned her to the wild. Virginia and Bill went on to make a number of wildlife films together, including in 1969 An Elephant Called Slowly with an elephant calf called Pole Pole. When filming was over, Pole Pole was gifted to London Zoo by the Kenyan government. Virginia and Bill did everything they could to prevent this, but Pole Pole was sent to London. In 1982, Virginia and Bill went to visit Pole Pole at the zoo. Pole Pole, in clear distress, remembered Virginia and Bill and stretched out her trunk to reach them. Virginia and Bill launched a campaign to give Pole Pole a better life but in 1983, aged 16, Pole Pole died. Determined that her death would not be in vain, in 1984, Virginia, Bill and their eldest son Will launched Zoo Check â€“ the charity that has evolved into Born Free.

Sherree enjoys a position at the forefront of British art, and has done for many years. She has been variously described as ‘the face of modern British impressionism’, ‘artist to the stars’, (Daily Express) and ‘the finest figurative artist we have here in the UK” (Art of England). Technically brilliant, stylistically virtuosic and endlessly vigilant, she creates masterly evocations of some of the most beautiful elements of British life, from the elegance of the social whirl to the innocence of the children’s seaside outing. The authenticity and accuracy of her observation is softened by her painterly, impressionistic approach, her subtle hand blending each detail into a creation of captivating timelessness. Her exquisite paintings have been exhibited at such prestigious venues as the Tate Gallery, the Barbican, the Royal Society of British Artists, the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, the Laing Landscape Exhibition, the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours, the Royal Watercolour Society, the Hesketh Hubbard Art Society, the New English Art Club, the National Society of Painters, the United Society of Painters and the Pastel Society. Sherree’s work is also in the Lord’s Museum and is held in many private collections all over the world. Sherree’s unquestionable virtuosity has made her a favourite with many celebrity collectors including members of the British Royal Family and former Prime Minister Sir John Major. Many famous names in the world of showbusiness have sat for her including Joanna Lumley, John Sessions and Sir Michael Parkinson. She was also commissioned to paint portraits of Jonny Wilkinson and Martin Johnson for a pair of commemorative Limited Editions (signed by both artist and player). Her most recent portrait featured Sebastian Coe (Lord Coe). Sherree is both the critic’s choice and the people’s choice, winning many high profile awards, and she has been officially voted the UK’s leading Modern Impressionist. A familiar face on our televisions she has appeared in programmes as varied as ‘To the Manor Bowen’ and ‘This Morning’; this autumn she was seen painting a £75,000 commission of a society bride in Channel 4’s documentary, ‘How the Rich Get Hitched’, and the reaction of the bride put all the other extraordinary elements of her wedding in the shade! 5

Phoebe Suzanne Eley is a Mezzo Soprano from Derbyshire, currently at the Royal Academy of Music studying with internationally acclaimed Operatic Soprano Nuccia Focile and renowned Vocal Coach Iain Leadingham. Phoebe was a finalist in the AESS Patricia Routledge National English Song Competition in 2018 and has recently been selected to compete in the 2019 Pendine ‘International Voice of the Future’ competition, which is generously supported by the Sir Bryn Terfel Foundation as part of the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod. Phoebe has had the opportunity to work with world class directors such as, John Ramster, Chris Cowell, Jamie Hayes and Peter Relton. Recent operatic highlights include: Lucretia (The Rape of Lucretia, Britten), Dorabella (Così fan tutte, Mozart), Tisbe (La Cenerentola, Rossini), Zita (Gianni Schicchi, Puccini), Florence Pike (Albert Herring, Britten), Olive (Ava’s Wedding, Michael Wolter) and Hermia (A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Britten). Other concert performances have included oratorio appearances such as in Handel’s Messiah with the Heart of England Orchestra at Derby Cathedral, and recitals in venues ranging from St.Paul’s Cathedral, Oxford Lieder Festival, Jaqueline Du Pré Concert Hall, Notre Dame and La Madeleine in Paris, the Duomo in Florence, the Berliner Dom, to the Thomaskirche in Leipzig. Phoebe is extremely passionate about fundraising and performing for charity events across the country, as well as this she regularly enjoys performing for dementia patients as part of the Moving Music concert series in Oxford. Phoebe is looking forward to performing at the ‘Out of Africa’ charity event this evening, helping to raise vital funds for the Born Free Foundation.

Eliza Marshall graduated from The Royal Academy of Music where she studied under Michael Cox, Eliza’s career has been as diverse as her musical tastes. Growing up listening to the great Russian Composers, whilst also enjoying Paul Simon and Baka Beyond, Eliza has carved a niche for herself as a cross-genre player, enjoying performing with orchestras, on film-soundtracks, numerous albums and at her current chair at The Lyceum Theatre in London for The Lion King. Featuring her unique Indian bansuri playing, she appeared in 2014 for the World Premiere of Joby Talbot’s ballet “The Winter’s Tale”, as the onstage soloist at The Royal Opera House with The Royal Ballet. The production returned to Covent Garden in 2016 and 2018, following performances with The Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Brisbane, in 2017. It received 5* reviews from the telegraph and all major arts and dance critics. Commercial work involves recording principal flute on numerous orchestral film scores and albums, on soundtracks for the likes of Ridley Scott and Peter Jackson, such as The Lord Of The Rings, Prometheus, Kung Fu Panda, The Great Gatsby, Robin Hood, and Sherlock Holmes, and she regularly appears as a soloist on flutes, ethnic flutes and whistles for films, video games and television at Abbey Road and Air Studios. A great lover of travel, performances with Peter Gabriel and his New Blood Orchestra have taken Eliza all over Europe, North and South America, and tours with sarod guru Amjad Ali Khan and Britten Sinfonia have seen her play throughout India. Eliza founded alt folk band Ranagri in 2013, since then they have recorded five highly acclaimed albums with Stockfisch and Wrasse Record Labels, performed at major folk festivals including Cambridge, at Birmingham Symphony Hall and The Union Chapel, and appeared on radio stations all over the UK including The Terry Wogan Show in 2014. They have worked with top Indian gurus at The Bhavan Centre London, with tabla legend Kuljit Bhamra MBE, and recorded The Great Irish Songbook with Pop Icon Tony Christie. Eliza has a deep love for crossing boundaries and bringing together musicians and music from all over the world – she believes strongly in the binding qualities that cross-cultural music-making has to offer. Regular trips to Africa and Scotland are an important part of Eliza’s musical passions, whilst also fulfilling her love for wilderness and nature.

TV Presenter, Antiques Expert and Celebrity Auctioneer. James Lewis is without doubt one of the most recognisable faces in the antiques world. He studied a degree in Fine Art and Auctioneering at Southampton, before starting his career briefly in London before joining one of the countries leading provincial firms, Neales of Nottingham in 1993. He founded Bamfords Auctioneers and Valuers and was awarded the UK Best Auctioneers of the Year award, two years running. James’ long-running television career started with the hit BBC show Flog It in 2002. He has since become a regular face on Bargain Hunt, Cash in the Attic, Trade Secrets, Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is and the BAFTA winning Antiques Road Trip. His most recent role sees him taking a more serious path in broadcasting with the excellent documentary Treasures of the Sikh Nation. James has always been passionate about wildlife and he has been a long standing campaigner against the ivory trade. He was the only member of the antiques profession to sign William Hague’s open letter in the Daily Telegraph calling for a reform of Britain’s ivory laws. He has worked closely with the British Government, TUSK and other NGO’s in negotiating and formulating the strictest ivory legislation in the world leading the way to ban ivory sales in the UK. James is well known for his love of animals and Africa; he is a proud patron of Born Free and is passionate about their work. He travelled in 2008 to Romania to help in the rescue of Bella the Lioness and named his daughter Arabella after her!

Jeff owned the guitar from 2011 and played it on September 23rd and 24th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in LA where it was autographed by Steve Tyler, Sting, Nicole Scherzinger, Tal Wilkenfeld, Joss Stone, Lisa Marie Presley and Lady Gaga. It returned to the UK in 2016 and was used by Jeff to record the 2016 Loudhailer album. The guitar comes complete with its original Fender case and a Jeff Beck Japan 2017 original tour programme.
