VETERANS

On Veterans Day, we pause to reflect on the courage, dedication and loyalty of our nation's military veterans. Throughout history, their hard work and sacrifice have kept us safe and protected our freedom. We owe them a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid, and we salute them for their service.

Clayton Bertsch 1954-1958

Clayton D. Bertsch, son of Mr. and Mrs. Adam Bertsch of Ashley, ND enlisted in the US Navy September 1954. Clayton completed his basic training at the Naval Station in Great Lakes, Illinois. After graduation he was stationed at the Naval Base in San Diego, California on the USS Brown, a destroyer, as a Pipefitter. Clayton served during the Korean War. In September of 1958 he was honorably discharged with a 3rd class ranking.

Adam Kaseman 1945-1947 Army T5, Korea

Arlo Maag 1952 Navy

US Air Force Airman First Class Randal L Johnson of Jamestown, ND was stationed at Fort George G. Meade, MD serving with the 94th Intelligence Squadron as a Cryptologic Linguist from 2007-2010. While at Fort Meade, he supported American Armed Forces in OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM. On one instance, his efforts directly saved the lives of American Service Edward Kunz members in Afghanistan. Army SSG He was awarded the 2-2-1923 - 5-17-1972 Air Force Achievement Gary Housh WWII - European for his actions in U.S. Navy 1968-1973 Medal Theater that event. Randal GMG3 - Gunner’s Communications loved to make people laugh. SSG Mate

Delbert D. Strahm

Deceased Seaman First Class Delbert D. Strahm, from Verona ND, served in World War II in the US Navy from October 20th 1942 to January 1st, 1946. He served as a gunner’s mate aboard the Merchant Marine Supply Ship Edward P. Costigan, the Battleship USS Wyoming (BB32), the Battleship USS Wisconsin (BB64) and the Light Cruiser USS Astoria (CL-90). He was awarded the American Theater medal, Asiatic Pacific medal, the European African and Philippine Liberation medal. He was also awarded the Victory Bar and the Bronze Star while serving aboard the Costigan.

Clifford V. Herrick

Clifford V. Herrick was in the US Army, stationed at HQ US Army Security Agency Pacific, Helamano Military Reservation, Oahu, Hawaii from November 1959 to March 1962.

Jeremiah Colbert

Anthony Paul Emo 1957-1961 U.S. Air Force, Airman 2nd Class

2nd Lt. Jeremiah Colbert served on active duty in the U.S. Air Force from 1998-2002. He joined the N.D. Air Guard in 2009 and currently serves as the wing’s public affairs officer.
