A GOVERNOR’S MANSION FOR CALIFORNIA

- Junior Studio, Fall 2025 -

This proposal for a new governor’s mansion in Sacramento, California, takes on the Spanish Colonial style of the vernacular characteristic to this area. Its location in the middle of downtown Sacramento necessitated a move to create privacy for its occupants while concurrently maintaining a dialogue with the surrounding city. The response to this is seen in the proposal’s formal front facade facing the main approach, while the move for privacy was achieved at the rear facade which overlooks a courtyard and garden encompassed by a loggia.

STUDY OF MARKET HALL, CHARLESTON, S.C

- Junior Studio, Spring 2026 -

This precedent study of Market Hall in Charleston, South Carolina, aimed at gaining an understanding of the “Market” type and its relation to city squares. The public square created by Market Hall differed from those typically seen in Rome and Greece, but the temple front of its main structure, the framing industrial and support buildings to the North and South, and the permeability of Market Hall’s plan reinforced its role not only as a Market but as the centerpiece to a city square.
