From the Head of School reetings MBCA Family and Friends, There’s nothing like an anniversary to connect the nostalgia of the past to the vision for the future. This past year’s silver anniversary provided special moments to reminisce about our storied past and celebrate all that God has done over the past 25 years. Just as importantly though, it was a time to remind ourselves why Mt. Bethel Christian Academy was founded and ensure that we continue to fulfill that vision. Some years ago, when my wife and I first tried our hand at gardening, we used to attach the seed packet to a stake at the end of the row. The packet featured an idyllic color picture of the vegetable or flower we were planting with the instructions for what we needed to do to help it thrive. This motivated us to nurture the little seedlings, made distinguishing weeds easier, and when we followed the instructions, we saw the plant flourish and develop into the image shown on the packet. Likewise, an anniversary is a great time to check the “seed packet.” As we celebrated our 25th, we were reminded of the picture our founders had in mind for MBCA, and like looking at the instructions on a seed packet, we keep our mission, vision, and core values in front of us, reminding us of how to grow this school into that beautiful picture that prompted those first families to start MBCA 25 years ago. This annual report features highlights of a successful year, harkening back to the 25 years that brought us here. And as we celebrate where we’ve been, we also keep our Christ-centered mission in front of us – academic excellence, spiritual growth, and a lifelong love and desire for learning – so that we will continue to reflect the image of what was planted all those years ago. Belong. Beloved. Become. I would see these signs in the carpool line every day when my twins, Madison and Logan, started at MBCA in the Junior Kindergarten program. As they moved into kindergarten, and now as we enter the 5th grade, I really feel that these signs were a wonderful expression of how the MBCA administrators, faculty, staff, and community care for our children. Not only are our children receiving an excellent education with wonderful and caring teachers, but they are also learning daily about Jesus and His love for us. This love for Him and how the students learn from day one in junior kindergarten how to be kind, compassionate, caring, and loving towards each other is an essential foundation for their lives. Our students are taught to be service-minded, and they learn that giving back to our community and to people all over the world can make a difference. Our children know how to pray and are not shy about praying for the team during sporting events, at family dinners, and when they need to have a conversation with Jesus. I am so thankful for the MBCA community and the academic growth, spiritual formation, and the lifelong desire and love for learning that they are teaching my children. Due to the support of the MBCA faculty and community and because of the individual attention, love, support, and recognition that my children receive at MBCA, my children are more prepared to be successful in college, their family lives, and their future careers. Your contributions to the Annual Fund and all of the extra time, snacks, and supplies that you so willingly donate to MBCA enrich the lives of all of our students, and we are all so grateful! ear MBCA Family, Thank you for your generous giving and prayers in support of the 2022-2023 Annual Fund. It was an honor for us to serve as your Annual Fund chairs. We loved serving our beloved school that our family has been a part of for over nine years. MBCA feels like home and is truly a community that supports and loves one another. We know every one of our amazing faculty and staff consistently demonstrate our school mission, “to provide a truly Christcentered education for our children through an environment that develops and encourages academic excellence, spiritual growth, and a lifelong love and desire for learning.” As we reflect on this past year, we see God’s faithfulness to the ministry of MBCA. Through it all, the MBCA family has trusted God, and He is always faithful! There have been changes over the years, but one thing is constant: this school pours into our students, both academically and spiritually, every day. In the past year, we continued to achieve record enrollment, expand class offerings, increase the numbers in our grade levels while keeping class sizes small, hire phenomenal additional faculty, and take our athletics program to the next level, and all while providing the most tuition assistance in school history. God is doing incredible things at MBCA. In closing, we want to reiterate that your thoughtful donations have such a significant impact on MBCA and continue to allow our school to fulfill its mission every day. We are reminded in Mark 10:27 that on our own accord it might seem impossible, but with God all things are possible. Georgia GOAL
SCHOLOARSHIP PROGR AM
The Georgia GOAL Scholarship Program continues to make a huge impact in the lives of students at Mt. Bethel Christian Academy. In the 2022-2023 school year alone, over 80 students were able to receive tuition assistance through the Georgia GOAL program. Without assistance, these students would not have been able to receive a high quality, Christ-centered education. This was all made possible because 121 individuals, couples, and businesses deferred their state of Georgia income tax dollars to support Mt. Bethel Christian Academy students through the Georgia Goal Scholarship Program. We are encouraged that, in 2023, we nearly tripled our contributions from the previous year because of incredible support from these donors listed. Please continue to encourage your family, friends, and neighbors to participate in the GOAL program. You are going to pay Georgia taxes anyway, so why not defer those dollars to help qualified students receive a Christcentered education at MBCA? Questions? Director’s Letter very year when I sit down to write this letter, I am filled with gratitude for this community. It can be easy to take it for granted, but the spirit and support from the MBCA family is truly something special. We are extraordinarily blessed! The 2022-2023 school year brought us to a very special moment in the Academy’s history: a quarter of a century of Christ-centered academic excellence! We are only able to celebrate 25 years because of partnerships like yours. Because of your support, thousands of students have benefited from a Mt. Bethel Christian education, an experience that has - and will - shape many aspects of their lives as they grow in their faith, careers, and families. What an impact our school has made on East Cobb and beyond. Thank you! I cherish my role at MBCA and the opportunities it brings to forge relationships with so many wonderful parents, especially parents like Mandy and Nick Arnold, who chaired the 2022-2023 Annual Fund Campaign with such enthusiasm and positivity. They are both gifted with huge hearts and unending grace. Thank you, Arnolds, for not only sharing your awesome kiddos with us, but for sharing so much of yourselves, too. Amy Bichsel, Faculty Chair, blesses the Academy in countless ways with her college counseling expertise, but also as a devoted parent and coach. And of course I’d like to thank Jen Collier, our Advancement & Communications Specialist, for all she does to make the Annual Fund, and so much more, run smoothly. Nick, Mandy, Amy, and Jen make work feel like anything but! I count my lucky stars to spend so much time with people, from fellow parents to the Academy’s leadership, who care so deeply about our students. My kids - and yours - are in the best of hands. Our earliest Upper School graduates are now college graduates - what a milestone! Our football program has a beautiful home field and an inaugural JV team. We’ve established an Athletics Hall of Fame. We saw our first perfect score on the ACT (congratulations to Trent Holder ‘24), and the class of 2023 achieved a new school record in awarded scholarships. With your help, we have set high standards for our students, and they continue to achieve them - and so much more. Thank you for believing in them; your support makes all the difference. Gratefully,

Arrow Field Ribbon Cutting It was an unseasonably warm day in late February when we got the chance to celebrate a dream that became a reality: the official opening of Arrow Field. Mt. Bethel Christian Academy families, faculty, and friends of the Lower, Middle, and Upper divisions came out to dedicate the new competition turf field, socialize, and preview future plans for the school. The evening began with Arrow Field’s inaugural sporting event – a Girls Varsity Soccer game. Excitement was still in the air as the celebration began, with a backdrop of shiny gold and blue balloons, swag provided by Parent Council, a custom cake adorned with an image of the high-tech new MBCA scoreboard, and of course the gorgeous field. A warm welcome from Dr. Jim Cianca, Head of School, and a prayer led by Rustin Parsons, Board Chair, kicked off the festivities. Matt Coutu, Chair of MBCA’s Campus Planning Committee, gave information about the planning, design, and enhancements of the campus, while Cal Boyd, Athletic Director, and Steve Colley, Facilities Manager, filled everyone in on additional exciting aspects of athletics and the campus. Capping off the eventful evening was the field ribbon cutting by Dr. Cianca, Rustin Parsons (board chair), Tim Pollard (board member), and Ragan Weeks (Academy parent and supporter). It was a wonderful evening, and the momentum only continues to grow. What an exciting time to be an Eagle!

MBCA’s Capital Campaign Becomes Official with the Launch of the “Building Up” Campaign The silent phase of MBCA’s capital campaign began last year and has been steadily gaining momentum. At the Arrow Field Ribbon Cutting ceremony, plans for future campus development were revealed, and the campaign gained its official name: “Building Up.” This name ties our 2022/2023 school theme verse, “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as you are doing,” with the new building plans for the Upper School campus. The Building Up Campaign will bring much-needed gathering and performance space, classroom space, athletics facilities, dining upgrades, and more to the Post Oak Tritt Road Campus. Thank you to Shannon and Carlton Walstad for serving as the family chairs for the campaign; we are off to a great start! You Fed Me If you scan the crowd at an Eagles home game or glance around the carpool line, you will notice on more than a few heads, white hats adorned with the navy numbers 1-9-9-8 across the front. As a nod to the year the Academy was founded, a limited run of dri-fit “1998” hats were sold for $98 each on Giving Tuesday to raise funds for the Academy's You Fed Me event in early 2023. All 110 hats sold! November 29, 2022 was Giving Tuesday, an annual day of giving recognized around the world. MBCA is proud to participate in this special day which encourages people to do good! Every dollar raised from hat sales went to support people in desperate situations and presented our students with a special opportunity to serve as the hands and feet of Christ.

You Fed Me meal-packing days are often counted among students’ favorite memories, and if you’ve ever had the opportunity to volunteer, you know why it is such a beloved tradition. The gymnasiums were filled with music and sounds of teamwork, and our students ended the day knowing they achieved something powerful. You Fed Me brings students from JK - 12th, parents, faculty, and staff together to help eradicate world hunger for some of the world’s most vulnerable populations. The goal for 2023 was to pack 100,000 meals, and hat sales combined with designated gifts of all sizes supported our efforts to provide meals to those in areas affected by war, poverty, and natural disasters.
1998 Hats The special edition “1998” hats were a meaningful way to show MBCA pride in honor of the Academy’s 25th anniversary while doing a whole lot of good for a great cause. May God continue to bless us with the resources and opportunities to serve others!

Hall of Fame Mt. Bethel Christian Academy added a new tradition to graduation week festivities in May with an Athletics Hall of Fame induction ceremony. As we marked the Academy’s 25th anniversary and the Upper School’s sixth graduating class, 2023 was the perfect time to establish the Athletics Hall of Fame. With our rich traditions and pursuit of excellence, we are thrilled to be able to honor our coaches and athletes in this way. On May 12, 2023, Roger Kaiser became the Academy’s first Hall of Fame inductee. Coach Kaiser helped establish the Academy’s athletics department when he arrived on campus in 2003 to serve as our first Athletic Director and basketball coach. Coach Kaiser served in these roles until his retirement in the spring of 2018. We are so grateful for his lasting legacy and continued support for MBCA. This was not the first Hall of Fame induction for Kaiser, as he is also

enshrined in multiple others including Georgia Tech, Life University, West Georgia University, and both the Georgia and Indiana Basketball Halls of Fame. The Academy’s inaugural Hall of Fame induction celebration took place following the Baccalaureate ceremony in the library at the Lower & Middle Schools Campus, and will be a part of graduation week festivities moving forward. Any retired coach may be considered for selection, as are athletes who have graduated from Mt. Bethel Christian Academy a minimum of five years prior to their nomination. The selection committee, featuring all varsity head coaches and other representatives from the school’s faculty and administration, will be chaired by the Athletic Director. Thank you, Coach Kaiser and family, for your longstanding commitment to Mt. Bethel Christian Academy’s athletics programs!
Athletic Association Mt. Bethel Christian Academy’s Athletic Association kicked off the 2022-2023 school year with its signature event, the Eagle Open Golf Tournament at Indian Hills Country Club, and wrapped the year with the Inaugural Round Eagle Pickleball Tournament at Atlanta Country Club. We are blessed to enjoy friendly competition and fellowship with members of the Eagle Nation community in support of our hardworking coaches and student athletes.

Silver Soiree
Celebrating 25 Years of MBCA Every spring, Parent Council hosts the Spring Fling & Auction, which is the Academy’s largest fundraising event of the year. The theme of this year’s Spring Fling was “Silver Soiree”, a nod to MBCA’s 25th year! Thank you to the Ways and Means Chairs and all of the Parent Council volunteers who made the evening such a wonderful event. That night, the Atlanta Country Club was draped in sparkly silver for the event, and housed some amazing auction items! The most popular items were Taylor Swift tickets, a signed MBCA football jersey commemorating MBCA’s new football program, and a Bullet grill! In high demand as usual were the tuition freeze, teacher experiences, reserved parking spots, vacation home stays, and sporting events tickets.

The amazing MBCA community raised $166,970 to be used for various needs and enhancements throughout the school. Spring Fling funds are used throughout the year for things like family care initiatives, teacher/ staff appreciation, and teacher grants for educational opportunities. Additionally, many voices are involved in deciding where the needs are greatest for the remaining funds, which vary by year. This year’s funds are being used for things like security initiatives, tennis court resurfacing, classroom technology upgrades, athletics, and professional development. MBCA is so appreciative of Parent Council and the dedication these wonderful volunteers have to our school, and for our families, who so generously support the Spring Fling each year.
