BE THE DIFFERENCE BEFORE IT’S NEEDED

TOO OFTEN, YOUNG PEOPLE STRUGGLE IN SILENCE.

Not because help doesn’t exist— but because the adults around them don’t always know what to look for, what to say, or how to respond.

That is why I am committed to advancing Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA)— equipping adults with the awareness and confidence to support young people when it matters most.

WHY THIS WORK MATTERS

Awareness, education & compassionate intervention matters.

“Every young person deserves a trusted adult who knows how to listen, respond, and help.”

– Jon Porter

Jon Porter is a certified Youth Mental Health First Aid Instructor and advocate dedicated to helping adults and communities better support the mental wellness of young people.

DARLENE MCGHEE WHITTINGTON

NATIONAL PRESIDENT

ON TWO EXTRAORDINARY YEARS OF

OF JACK AND JILL OF AMERICA, INC.

Your vision, grace, and unwavering commitment to Jack and Jill have strengthened the organization, inspired Mother Members across the country, and created meaningful opportunities for children and families to thrive.

To us, you are the heart of our home, a devoted wife, loving mother, kindhearted sister, and steadfast friend.

Delmar and Skylar

DEIDRE S. LINDSEY NATIONAL

PENNY

TAMIKA L. HENDERSON

To my Jack and Jill Family:

It has been the honor of my life to serve on the National Executive Board as your National Recording Secretary.

When I asked for your vote, I ran under a moniker that was more than a slogan. It was a promise. Crown Up: Lead. Empower. Unite. I have spent every day of this service asking myself whether I was living up to that siren call. I hope, in the rooms where decisions were made and in the quiet work that no one sees, that I answered it.

For me, the Power of Us has never been an abstraction. It is the unbroken chain of mothers and fathers reaching back to 1938, hand to hand, generation to generation bound by a single mission: to raise children who are unbroken, unbent, and unbowed. Children who grow into whole and brilliant leaders of the future, undeterred by the pitfalls that wait for them in this world. That chain is ours to strengthen, and to pass forward. That is the Power of Us!

Onward.

As I have traveled this country and stood with you in your regions, I have often told the same story. When Roman generals faced certain defeat, when the odds were insurmountable and lesser leaders would have sounded the retreat, they gave their legions one charge, and one charge only.

Not hold the line. Not save yourselves. Onward. So that is the charge I leave with you. The work of raising whole children in a fractured world is not finished — it never will be. There will be days when the odds feel insurmountable. There will be moments the crown sits heavy. On those days, I ask you to remember the chain you belong to, and the mothers who came before you who never once let go.

So, my Jack and Jill family; adjust those crowns. Stand a little taller. Lead a little louder. Empower the child beside you and the mother across the room. And when the road rises and the hour grows long, remember the one charge that has carried us from 1938 to this very moment.

Onward

With profound gratitude and abiding love,

NRS Tamika L. Henderson

There is a line from Gwendolyn Brooks that has lived in my chest for the entirety of this biennium. “We are each other’s business. We are each other’s magnitude and bond.” She wrote those words decades ago, but she wrote them for us. For this organization. For this covenant. For this very moment.

I did not fully understand what they meant until I stepped into the role of National Corresponding Secretary and found myself entrusted with the governance, legislative agenda and the collective heartbeat of Jack and Jill of America. This organization is not simply a network. It is a covenant. And every policy I upheld, every chapter I called into compliance, and every bridge I helped build, all of it was in service of that covenant.

We are each other’s business. That means when a chapter struggles with intake compliance, it is our business. When a family feels unseen by governance, it is our business. When the Father’s Auxiliary asks for a stronger seat at the table, it is our business. When legislation threatens the rights of our children, our communities, and our future, it is our business. I took that seriously. Every single day. Governance is not glamorous work. It is the unglamorous architecture

of an organization’s integrity. I stewarded our policies with care, consistency, and compassion while balancing the letter of our procedures with the spirit of our mission. When disputes arose, I sought resolution grounded in fairness. When chapters needed guidance, I answered. When members needed to be held accountable, I did not shrink. An organization is only as strong as its willingness to be honest with itself. I tried, always, to serve that honesty.

We are each other’s magnitude and bond. As I close this chapter, I am not leaving Jack and Jill of America. No one truly leaves. We become part of the foundation that holds up those who come after us. I came into this role standing on the shoulders of those who served before me. I leave it having tried with every ounce of energy, prayer, and purpose I could summon to extend those shoulders a little further, so that the next National Corresponding Secretary might stand a little taller, see a little further, and serve a little more powerfully.

To the mothers who poured into me, who called with wisdom and courage when the work felt heavy: thank you.

To the chapters who trusted me to handle their most difficult moments with grace: thank you.

To my National Executive Board family, who served alongside me with honor: it has been the privilege of my life.

And to this organization, Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated, I say this: We are each other’s business. We are each other’s magnitude and bond. Do not forget it. Live it. Legislate it. Lead by it.

With gratitude, faith, and abiding love, I was always delighted to serve.

VANESSA CASTON LAFLEUR

SUZANNE ORNELAS

As I pause to reflect on this extraordinary journey, my heart is filled with profound gratitude. It is difficult to find words that fully capture what these years of service have meant to me, because this experience has been about so much more than meetings, programs, community service and conferences -- it has been about people, purpose, and the enduring power of sisterhood. To every mother of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., thank you for trusting me witht he privilege of serving alongside you. Your unwavering commitment to our children, your selfless sacrifices, your wisdom, and your love are the heartbeat of this remarkable organization. You have inspired me with your resilience, challenged me to become a better leader, and reminded me that our greatest legacy will always be the lives we shape.

To my National Executive Board sisters, thank you for your vision, your friendship, and your steadfast leadership; especially in the difficult times. Serving with each of you has been one of the greatest honors in my life. Together we celebrated victories, navigated challenges, dreamed boldly, and remained committed to moving our beloved organization forward with grace and excellence. I will forever treasure the laughter we shared, the difficult conversations that strengthened us, and the bonds that will continue long after our terms have

To my sisters on the Regional Executive Board, thank you for walking beside me every step of the way. This has been a long and amazing journey and Your encouragement, your counsel, and your belief in me have been priceless gifts. I have never walked this journey alone because each of you helped carry the weight and multiplied the joy.

To our phenomenal Teen Presidents, thank you for giv-

ing me hope every single day. Watching you lead with courage, intelligence, compassion, and authenticity has been one of the greatest blessings of my service. You are not simply the future of Jack and Jill -- you are its brilliant present, and I leave inspired knowing that our organization is in such capable hands.

Finally, to my greatest blessing -- my beautiful family -- Oscar, Nola, and Asa, thank you for every sacrifice you made so I could answer this calling. Thank you for understanding the late night calls, the countless flights, the weekends away, and the moments when duty called me beyond our home. Your unconditional love has been my refuge, your encouragement, my strength, and your faith in me my greatest source of courage. You have celebrated every triumph, comforted every disappointment, and reminded me that no title is greater than the privilege of being yours. As this chapter comes to a close, I leave with a heart overflowing with gratitude, cherished memories that will last a lifetime, friendships that have become family, and an unshakeable belief that service offered with love always leaves the world better than we found it. Thank your for allowing me the honor of serving. I will forever carry this journey -- and each of you -- in my heart.
