Hello, Neighbors!

April is anything but boring in Oklahoma. The redbuds glow purple, the Comer’s dogwoods show out, and along the roadways, the delicate pink evening primrose ﬂowers quietly signal what we all know: spring is here, and with it, a chance to begin again.

Spring has a way of offering a reset. A do-over.

Of course, this is Oklahoma, so renewal comes served with a side of vigilance. We keep one eye on the sky, tracking storms and comparing forecasts like seasoned meteorologists. I will always miss Gary England.

But beyond the weather, April invites us to refresh in simpler, more practical ways. I recently cleaned out my closet. The work wasn’t exciting but the result was more space, more order, and clarity. Also, cuter outﬁts.

That same opportunity exists around our homes and throughout our neighborhood. Our free dump weekend is the perfect time to clear out what’s been piling up over the winter. It’s a small effort with a visible impact; one that makes our community feel cared for and ready for the season ahead.

April is also a good time to reset how we show up for each other. Planning is underway for our Memorial Weekend fundraiser, and it will take neighbors willing to step in and help make it happen. Events like these don’t come together by accident, they’re built by people who choose to be involved.

As lake season approaches, this is our moment to build a little momentum.

Clean up. Pitch in. Be part of it.

As we head into another beautiful season at the lake, I hope you’re all looking forward to longer days, warmer weather, and time with family and friends. The new dock is ready for use this summer and will make loading and unloading passengers on and off boats more safe and efficient for everyone.

Now that it's storm season, I want to encourage each of you to make sure you’re set up to receive emergency weather alerts on your cell phone. These alerts can provide critical, real-time warnings for severe weather in our area.

Most smartphones already have Wireless Emergency Alerts built in. You can check your settings to be sure they’re enabled:

On iPhone: go to Settings > Notiﬁcations and scroll to the bottom to turn on Emergency Alerts.

On Android: go to Settings > Safety & Emergency or Notiﬁcations and look for Wireless Emergency Alerts.

Another great option is by signing up for the Marshall County Emergency Management's Hyper Reach Alert. Scan the QR code below to sign up.

I also personally use the KFOR Channel 4 app out of Oklahoma City, which provides reliable local coverage and timely weather alerts for our area.

More Info on the New Dock...

Last year’s ﬂooding and corrosion of the steel frame made it necessary to replace the platform at the end of the walkway. There was also damage to the walkway that required repairs. Money collected for HOA dues and our Memorial Day fundraiser enabled the HOA Board to schedule and pay for the repairs and platform replacement.

For anyone new to the area, it is the responsibility of the HOA to maintain the dock, the ramp, and the road to the ramp. We have a licensing agreement with Corps of Engineers (COE). We request the license be renewed every ﬁve years. Even though we pay for and maintain the dock, road and ramp, the COE establishes the rules. Safety is their priority. At some time a ladder was attached to the old dock. The COE has a strict rule that boats and swimmers cannot be in the same area. The primary purpose of the dock is to load and unload people from boats. The COE has made it very clear that there cannot be a ladder on the dock used by swimmers. As a result, a swim ladder will not be installed on the new platform.
