Our program is designed to give every student the opportunity to participate, improve and thrive through physical activity, competition, teamwork and challenge.

Ivanhoe Grammar School seeks to deliver a balanced and inclusive sport program that supports personal growth, skill development and a lifelong connection to physical activity

Program overview

The Ivanhoe Grammar School Sport Program is compulsory for students in Years 7–11 and operates across two major interschool seasons:

Summer Season: Term 4 and Term 1

Winter Season: Term 2 and Term 3

Minimum co-curricula

MIDDLE YEARS

YEAR 7, 2027

The Summer Sport selection for their First Term in Term 1 is only for a maximum of four weeks It is best to pick a sport you believe you can play as students are entered into competition immediately

There are other “Alternative” sports that students can select however these will be on top of their Summer and Winter commitments whilst in Year 7

Training for the majority of sports are held during school time once per week Further details on each sport’s requirements can be found in the following information. Please review carefully as once sports are selected students will need to honour the commitments for the year

YEAR 8-9, 2027

A Year 8 and 9 student must participate in two sports, this includes selecting from any sport on the “Alternative” list as long as the commitments for both sports do not clash

Selecting Kayaking counts as two sports from Year 8 onwards due to the all round nature of the activity Please note its requirements and parent commitments below

Training for the majority of sports are held during school time once per week Further details on each sport’s requirement can be found in the following information

Please remember if you are currently in Year 9, you are selecting your sport commitment based on the requirements of Year 10, meaning you are only required to select one sport if you are also enrolled in another co-curricular activity If you commit to two sports heading into Year 10, you will be required to honour that commitment

YEAR 10-11, 2027

A Year 10 and 11 student must participate in two cocurricular activities and one must be sport, this includes selecting from any sport on the “Alternative” list

Trainings are held after school on selected days which are communicated at the start of each season

YEAR 12, 2027

A student needs to participate in one co-curricular activity, which could be sport

Trainings are held after school on selected days which are communicated at the start of each season

Venues

Training will take place each week at the relevant campus locations unless otherwise stated.

PLENTY CAMPUS

Most training sessions take place at the Plenty Campus

RIDGEWAY CAMPUS

Training will occur at the Ridgeway Campus or at a local community oval called Chelsworth Park for our core outdoor sports

UNIVERSITY CAMPUS

Training for University Campus students occurs at La Trobe University or the Ridgeway Campus with bus transportation provided by the school

If external venues are required for training purposes aside from Chelsworth Park, buses will be provided to transport the students to and from training

Students will be required to attend competitive matches at other schools during the competition window with transport the responsibility of families If a game is scheduled more than 1 hour from their home campus the school will provide transportation.

Interschool Sport

Boys’ teams primarily compete in competitions organised by the Associated Grammar Schools Victoria (AGSV)

Girls’ teams compete across both AGSV and Associated Public Schools (APS) competitions, depending on sport and season

The rules and regulations governing interschool sport are set by the respective associations and can be found on their websites.

Student sport selection

Students select their sport(s) annually via an online Sport Selection Form While every effort is made to place students in their preferred activity, adjustments may occur in response to numbers, safety considerations or program balance Should there not be enough numbers to run a sport at a particular campus, students will be asked to select an alternative option

Each season typically includes: Approximately 12 weeks of training Up to 9 scheduled interschool fixtures

Most competitions take place on Saturday mornings, with occasional Friday evening or midweek fixtures where required

AEROBICS

Co-educational – Winter

Aerobics combines dance, fitness and performance in a team-based setting

TRAINING & PERFORMANCE

Trainings are held one morning per week before school during Term 2. There are scheduled performances that will be outlined at the start of each season This includes the opportunity to compete in State and National competitions throughout Term 2 and 3

ATHLETICS

Co-educational – Alternative

The Athletics program at Ivanhoe Grammar School provides students with structured opportunities to train, compete and represent the School across a range of track and field events Training sessions are scheduled in the lead-up to the season and focus on event-specific development, conditioning and preparation for competition

Students may be selected for events through trials and ongoing training performance, with teams finalised ahead of key interschool competitions. The season culminates in major carnivals, including the AGSV Athletics Carnival, where students compete in races, relays and field events against other schools

TRAINING

Occurs late in Term 2 and 3 after school and on Saturdays with competition taking place late in Term 3. Some training sessions will be held off site at relevant athletic facilities

UNIFORM & EQUIPMENT

Students will be required to purchase the Athletics top and Athletics shorts from the uniform shop and supply their own specialised equipment if needed i e spikes

DANCE GOLF

Co-educational – Winter

ACTIVITY

Dance is run during the week according to the year level sport timings Students are required to also attend a class on Saturday at their home campus A showcase event is completed at the conclusion of the season.

Co-educational – Summer; available to Year 9 and above

ACTIVITY

Students may choose Golf as a sport if they already play outside school Group coaching is provided however students must complete an 18-hole round of Golf a minimum of 8 times throughout the season with results forwarded to the school

Interschool competitions will also occur late in the Summer season window

TRAINING

Is completed after school on a designated day at a local Golf Club Students are allocated into training groups according to skill level, noting it is a requirement to have experience playing Golf before selecting this sport

Students must provide their own equipment

Teams will be formed based on the number of students who register to play This may result in Junior and Senior teams being selected as opposed to year level teams.

UNIFORM & EQUIPMENT

Ivanhoe Grammar Hockey uniform is required to be purchased from the uniform shop Stick, shin guards and mouthguard are required to be supplied by the students

KAYAKING

Co-educational – Summer and Winter

In Year 7, students wishing to participate in Kayaking must do so above their Summer and Winter sport commitments

Training, camps and events happen outside of school times and will need to be supported by parents

Activity runs Term 1 to 4 starting with safety sessions and a family camp in March

TRAINING

Training sessions are held on a river at a location relevant to each campus after school on a designated day along with sessions on Saturday mornings.

Victorian School Kayak Championships – September

Training Day for National Schools Championships –December in Term 4

Nationals Schools Championship - early January

Students in Year 8 and 9 will complete private study in the designated sport training window if competing in Kayaking

COMPETITION

Weekly Saturday matches at a local bowls venue.

TRAINING

Occurs offsite at a local bowls venue after school one day each week Students are transported by bus

COMPETITION & TRAINING

The program caters for students of all experience levels from beginners stepping onto the snow for the first time, to experienced athletes aiming to compete at a high level Through a combination of training, school trips, and competition opportunities, students are encouraged to challenge themselves, build resilience, and develop confidence in a unique alpine setting.

Students have the opportunity to represent the School at the Victorian and National Interschools Championships across a range of disciplines, including alpine racing, snowboard, freestyle, and cross-country Dryland sessions run one morning a week at Ridgeway and Plenty Campuses

All other activities including camps and competitions are outside school time and require families to attend to supervise your children

Ivanhoe Edge

Ivanhoe Edge is a specialised co-curricular offering at Ivanhoe Grammar School that sits alongside the School's core sport program, providing students with access to additional targeted training and development opportunities in selected sports and performing arts Delivered through one-to-one and small group sessions, the program is designed to offer a level of individual focus that complements the broader school experience

Designed for students of any skill level seeking to further develop their skills, Ivanhoe Edge programs involve higher levels of coaching, increased training opportunities and a greater focus on individual progression Sessions are delivered by experienced coaches and are designed to complement, rather than replace, regular school sport commitments.

Ivanhoe Edge forms part of the School's broader commitment to offering diverse and flexible pathways, allowing students to engage in sport at a level that best matches their interests, goals, and development needs

Communication and Match Day information

All fixtures, venues and team lists are distributed via the School App Timelines for team confirmations are published in the week of the season commencing

Final weekly fixture information is released Thursday evenings

Students are expected to arrive at venues at least 30 minutes prior to match commencement

Attendance, absences and emergencies

Weekly attendance is a key expectation of participation in the Sport Program Withdrawal from a fixture must be approved in advance through the teacher in charge of the team. Non-attendance at two or more fixtures will result in a detention

Uniforms and transport

Students must wear the correct Ivanhoe Grammar School sport uniform for all training, matches and travel to fixtures No non-school apparel is permitted

Where required, school transport will be provided to and from venues, with details communicated weekly

Awards

and recognition

Student effort, improvement and achievements are recognised through a sport based assembly held at each campus at the end of every season Parents will be notified two weeks in advance if their child is receiving an award

Parents play a vital role in supporting positive sporting experiences All families are expected to model respect, encouragement and sportsmanship at all times

Students are expected to compete with integrity, respect officials and opponents, and represent the School positively through their conduct both on and off the field
