Tourists are also attracted to Goa for its cultural heritage - from the famous old Portuguese churches like Se Cathedral in Old Goa, the 16th Century Safa Masjid in Ponda and Shree Mangesha Temple in Mardol, the legendary Arvalem or Pandava Caves where the Pandavas of the Mahabharat fame lived, to its two unique festivals - Carnival and Shigmo. Goa plays host to many festivals - the International Film Festival of India that promotes cinema, the Serendipity Art Festival, Sunburn Music Festival, The Grape Escapade to name a few. To showcase this varied heritage of culture, art, tradition, food, and people, in 2015 ItsGoa was born. The main aim was to make it the premier portal for all things Goa. For Valanka D’Cunha, creativity has never been confined to a single pursuit. Known by her first name in everyday life and as emcee Cynthia while hosting functions, she moves comfortably between music, event hosting, beauty content and motherhood. Each of these facets reflects a different part of her personality, yet all are connected by her desire to express herself, connect with people and inspire others.
Roots in Paroda
Valanka’s story begins in Paroda, a picturesque village surrounded by green paddy fields and nestled at the foothills of Parvat. Her family’s roots in the village stretch back four generations, carrying with them a remarkable story of courage and survival.

As she grew older, family members began asking her to host their functions, giving her more opportunities to refine the skill. Eventually, hosting became another important part of her creative identity.

What began as two college friends turning everyday conversations and observations into comedy has grown into a recognisable digital identity rooted in Goan life. Maar Zai Tuka, the content-creation duo of Roshani Ramesh Marathe and Prathamesh Pradeep Shirodkar, has built its presence around relatable humour, local expressions and situations familiar to young Goans.
Roshani, a graduate of Shree Damodar College of Commerce and Economics, has a strong interest in storytelling, editing, acting and advertising, while Prathamesh brings his energy to scripting, shooting and performance. These questions became the foundation of his practice. The COVID-19 lockdown proved to be a defining period. With everyday life brought to a standstill, Pradul spent long hours experimenting at home, sometimes dedicating 12 to 15 hours a day to creating, failing and trying again. Without formal training, he learned through observation, experimentation and persistence, eventually developing techniques of his own. The experience transformed art from an interest into a way of life.
Finding Possibilities in Unconventional Materials
For Pradul, the material is an important part of the artwork itself. He is drawn to objects not because they are expensive or traditionally associated with art, but because they present a challenge.

Each face of a dice offers a different visual value, ranging from the lighter appearance of one dot to the darker effect created by six dots. He then maps the composition and determines the quantity and placement of each type.
The dice are subsequently positioned one by one. The result is essentially a giant three-dimensional puzzle. From a distance, the thousands of individual pieces merge into a portrait; up close, the work reveals the extraordinary number of elements that make up the image.
According to Pradul, the portrait often becomes recognisable only towards the final stages of the process, making patience as important as planning.

Another defining aspect of Pradul’s work is his largescale dice art. Inspired by seeing examples of the medium internationally, he wondered whether such a project could be created in Curchorem. The process begins digitally. Pradul pixelates a photograph and studies the tonal variations required to reproduce the image.

The scale of the artwork was significant, but its meaning went beyond its dimensions. For Pradul, Shree Ram and Lord Hanuman represent devotion and dharma, and he wanted the artwork to convey the feeling that this celebration of faith could also be experienced within his own village.
When Art Became a Community Effort
The project soon grew beyond the artist himself. Residents, volunteers, children, neighbours and visitors participated by helping place the dice.
Even the financial contribution became collective. People donated small amounts, including ₹10 and ₹20, towards purchasing the dice required for the massive installation.

Discovering a Passion for Shot Put
Carl’s interest in shot put began approximately a year ago after he participated in school athletic meets. He was drawn to the combination of strength, technique and precision that the event demands. Rather than viewing competitions simply as opportunities to win, he found motivation in the process of improving his performance with every attempt.

For Alistair Menezes, music has never been limited to a stage, a keyboard, or a carefully rehearsed setlist. It has travelled with him— from school auditoriums in Goa to grand celebrations in the United Kingdom, from intimate cultural gatherings to large festivals filled with the sound of a community finding its way back to its roots.
His story is one of discipline and instinct, education and emotion, Goa and the world. He is a Trinity College London Grade 6 keyboard musician with excellent grades, a Master of Science in Management graduate from the University of York, and a performer whose musical life has unfolded across two countries and several generations of sound. His career reflects a rare combination: the precision of a trained musician, the adaptability of a working professional, and the warmth of an artist deeply connected to his cultural identity.
These formative years gave Alistair a strong foundation. He developed confidence on stage and learned how to work within the personality of a band. He discovered that music is both personal and collective. A keyboardist can be technically brilliant, but a successful live musician must also listen, respond, support, and sometimes step forward.
His talent became visible through competitions conducted by the Directorate of Art & Culture, Government of Goa. Representing The Rosary High School, Miramar, he won second prize in keyboard at the Taluka Level Cultural Talent Search Competition in 2013–14. The following year, he returned to the same competition and won third prize in keyboard for 2014–15. These prizes were early milestones, but their importance went beyond certificates. They confirmed that his interest in music was not a passing hobby. It was an ability worth cultivating.
The Sound of Goa Abroad
When Goans move abroad, they do not leave their music behind. They carry it in family celebrations, community events, church gatherings, weddings, festivals, and memories of home. On 8 August, West Coast was scheduled to perform at Summerfest 3.0, organised by Reading Amigos at 3Sixty in Reading. The event lineup included Seven Notes Band, Shine On, Mark Revlon, DJ Skeletron, and other performers.

The summer of 2026 brought a demanding schedule for West Coast.
On 9th May 2026, they performed at a cultural and charitable event Shake Some Aspirations – ASisterhood Event organized by Valankie Fernandes, Miss Universe Great Britain 2026 Finalist, highlighting the band’s involvement in meaningful community initiatives.
On Saturday, 27 June, the band performed at Summer Fiesta in Swindon, held at Saint Mary’s Catholic Primary School in East Swindon. The lineup included Raagas2Riches, Clayjars, Altitude, and DJ Nyllor.
Just a week later, on 3 July, West Coast performed at Evening Affair 2.0 at the Radisson RED London Heathrow.
Before the United Kingdom became an important part of his musical life, Goa was the foundation.
In Goa, Alistair is widely recognised as the keyboardist of Brothers in Arms, better known as BIA. The band is known for its 100% live sound, a phrase that carries particular significance in an era when performances can rely heavily on backing tracks and programmed arrangements.
As a member of BIA, Alistair contributed to a repertoire that crossed multiple genres. The band’s performances included high-energy dance music, retro classics, funk, pop, and complex jazz compositions. Through BIA, Alistair became a familiar presence within Goa’s live entertainment scene.

During Christmas and New Year, Alistair has been sought after for formal dances and festive celebrations at leading clubs and venues across Goa and India. These occasions carry their own musical expectations. Audiences want familiarity, nostalgia, celebration, and movement.
Music with a Purpose

Goa Carnival offers a completely different kind of environment.
With performances at events including Samba Square in Panaji and the Mapusa Masquerade, Alistair has experienced the scale and vibrancy of one of Goa’s most iconic public celebrations. Carnival is colour, movement, costume, rhythm, and spectacle. It is a celebration that takes music out of the concert hall and places it in the heart of the community.
Beyond the Main Band
Alistair’s musical journey in Goa has also included another important project: THE JAM.
He played a key role in the formation of the band, which performed at Goa Carnival celebrations and prominent pub venues.
THE JAM contributed to Goa’s vibrant local live music scene, where bands often become part of the social fabric of a neighbourhood or community.
The most meaningful performances are not always the largest ones.
Alistair has been involved in charitable and socially focused initiatives, including the Celebrating Abilities concert, organised in association with the Goa Entertainment Association and Rotary Goa Parivar. The initiative supported children with special needs.
He has also helped conduct musical activities for especially abled children during Christmas and other festivities.
