Introduction Goa, the tiniest state on the western coast of India, boasts golden pristine beaches, palmfringed avenues, flavourful food, delicious Portuguese-influenced sweets, and warm, hospitable people. Also known as the Ibiza of India for its partying. A tropical paradise of flora and fauna, from the very famous 'almi' (mushrooms) endemic to its forests, that grow only on the red mud anthills, to the solar prawns that are fished immediately after the monsoons, Goa is unique. Tourists are also attracted to Goa for its cultural heritage - from the famous old Portuguese churches like Se Cathedral in Old Goa, the 16th Century Safa Masjid in Ponda and Shree Mangesha Temple in Mardol, the legendary Arvalem or Pandava Caves where the Pandavas of the Mahabharat fame lived, to its two unique festivals Carnival and Shigmo. Goa plays host to many festivals - the International Film Festival of India that promotes cinema, the Serendipity Art Festival, Sunburn Music Festival, The Grape Escapade to name a few. To showcase this varied heritage of culture, art, tradition, food, and people, in 2015 ItsGoa was born. The main aim was to make it the premier portal for all things Goa. We were able to showcase Goa like never before. Soon our blog-based website transcended the virtual space, with the ItsGoa magazine – a sought-after resource for visitors to Goa from countries like Norway, Germany, UK, USA, UAE, etc.

Nestled in a space where melody meets meaning, Amplified Music Academy (AMA) has become a symbol of quality, creativity, and purpose-driven music education since its inception in April 2022. Founded by a passionate and highly trained musician whose journey with music began as early as the age of two, AMA is more than just a place to learn notes —it is a hub of artistic development and personal transformation.

The Genesis of a Musical Journey

The seeds of AMA were sown long before its official opening. The founder’s early exposure to music was sparked by a simple Christmas gift—a toy piano— when she was just two years old.

Demonstrating the ability to play tunes by ear, her parents recognised her talent and enrolled her in formal music classes by the age of four. From there, her dedication only deepened. By the age of five, she was already sitting for the prestigious Trinity College London music examinations.

Throughout her teenage years, radio became her gateway to diverse musical genres. From nursery rhymes to contemporary R&B and Christian worship music, she immersed herself in sound. By eleven, she was playing at her church, an experience that instilled consistency and discipline.

After earning a business degree, she knew music was more than a passion—it was her purpose. She pursued a two-year diploma in music in Sydney, Australia, where she honed her skills as a musician, teacher, and producer.

Her time abroad included teaching at Maxx Music School and interning at a television channel, creating music scores for advertisements and promos using Logic Pro X. This exposure to digital audio workstations (DAWs) expanded her perspective, helping her integrate classical training with modern music technology—a vision that now shapes the core of Amplified Music Academy.

A picture of some of the staff at AMA Founding AMA: A Vision Brought to Life

AMA was born out of a desire to offer structured, high-quality, and in-person music education—a rarity in an age dominated by online tutorials. “Anyone can learn music online, but it’s not always sustainable or effective in the long run,” says the founder. Recognising how deeply music contributed to her own personal development—boosting confidence, discipline, and emotional expression—she wanted to pass on these life-changing benefits to others.

AMA is not a typical hobby class. It is a space where music is approached as a professional skill, with a curriculum that adapts to the student’s goals. In just over two years, the academy has catered to more than 200 students of all ages and skill levels. Many of them have excelled in Trinity College of London examinations, often scoring above 95%.

Courses, Curriculum, and Customisation

Amplified Music Academy currently offers training in piano, keyboard, guitar, and Western vocals. The distinguishing feature of AMA is its student-curated classes. Rather than imposing a rigid syllabus, each lesson is personalised based on the student’s aspirations and areas for growth. Whether a learner aims to master classical piano techniques or produce modern vocal tracks using music software, AMA tailors the experience accordingly.

Students are introduced to industry-standard music production tools and software. When ready, they explore how their instrument fits into orchestral or studio recordings. This combination of classical methodology and cutting-edge technology sets AMA apart from conventional music schools.

All Ages, All Levels Welcome

From toddlers to retirees, AMA opens its doors to learners across the age spectrum. Beginners are just as welcome as seasoned musicians looking to refine their skills. The teaching style balances enjoyment and rigour—fostering an environment where music remains joyful yet purposeful.

Ashrafi Gaikwad at the Mangalore Dirt Prix 8 winning 2nd place A glimpse into learning Logic Pro using a midi The instructors, each with significant experience and diverse musical backgrounds, focus on striking a balance between structured progression and improvisational learning. This flexibility allows the classes to stay engaging and effective regardless of the learner’s age or proficiency level.

Teaching Philosophy: Nurturing Through Notes

Nothing beats after school blues like a guitar class

Teaching at AMA isn’t just about hitting the right keys or chords—it’s about emotional growth, building confidence, and instilling perseverance. The founder shares a heartwarming story of a young student in Sydney who had previously faced discouragement in piano. With tailored instruction and encouragement, the student overcame self-doubt and eventually scored 98/100 in her piano recital. This transformation, from hesitation to triumph, exemplifies the academy’s core teaching ethos.

Lessons are designed to prevent monotony. There’s constant variety—spontaneous exercises, unique tools, and hands-on engagement with music technology. This ensures students remain motivated and enthusiastic, translating into a remarkably high retention rate.

Performance & Progress

Beyond Teaching: The Founder’s Musical Path

AMA held its inaugural student concert in December, where each student performed a solo for a live audience—many for the first time. The event was not only a celebration of talent but a testament to the academy’s commitment to developing performance confidence in its students. With plans for more concerts, AMA continues to provide platforms that prepare students for real-world musical experiences.

While her primary focus is running the academy, the founder still nurtures her personal growth as a musician. Teaching others, she notes, is a powerful form of self-learning. Producing student music tracks helps her stay current with music technology, even though time constraints prevent her from performing or composing extensively outside the academy.

Challenges and Reflections

Embracing Technology in Music Education

AMA is at the forefront of integrating music technology into education. Students are introduced to production techniques using Logic Pro X and other DAWs. They learn not just how to play music, but how to record, mix, and produce it. This digital proficiency is a vital asset in today’s music industry and adds immense value to the students’ skill sets.

As part of their learning journey, students also understand how their instrument contributes to a full composition, whether it’s in a solo, ensemble, or studio context. This real-world insight bridges the gap between amateur practice and professional output.

Running a music school comes with its share of hurdles—from managing operations and staffing to refining administration and marketing. However, the founder views challenges as opportunities to learn and improve. “You know your business better than anyone,” she says. “Discernment and self-belief are crucial.”

She also emphasises the importance of changing the narrative around music education. For too long, music classes have been dismissed as mere hobbies. Yet today, music qualifications are highly regarded for college admissions, job applications, and even visa processes. AMA aims to elevate the status of music education and showcase its real-world value.

Message to Parents and Aspiring Musicians

For parents, the founder recommends encouraging their children by even participating in music sessions themselves. Music enhances brain development, memory, focus, and emotional regulation. Early exposure offers lifelong benefits, but it’s never too late to start. Adults too can experience profound mental and emotional well-being through music learning.

Her advice to aspiring musicians and educators is simple yet powerful: stay authentic. “There will always be someone more skilled, but you bring something to the table that no one else can.” Dedication, humility, and continuous learning are key. She adds, “Perseverance and a growth mindset have taken me far—and they will do the same for you.”

Future Vision for Amplified Music Academy

Looking ahead, the vision for AMA is expansive. Plans are in place to introduce new instrument sections, including percussion, strings, and classical vocals. The academy also intends to further integrate music technology into its curriculum, making classes even more dynamic and careeroriented. Most notably, the founder hopes to open additional branches, with the next one planned for Panjim.

AKU-KO values staying connected with musicians of all ages, believing that such exchanges feed the creative cycle. That openness led to one of his most defining projects—“The Noise Capital” (2023), a genre-blending masterpiece featuring collaborations with six classically trained musicians and a DJ. Merging electronic frameworks with instruments like trombone, flute, and double bass, he created a rare harmony between the structured and the spontaneous.

A Life Altered in a Moment

The year was 2007. Neha, a bright 16-year-old student at a madrasa in Ratnagiri, never imagined that a routine evening would alter the course of her life. As she switched on the electricity in her room, a small LPG cylinder exploded, inflicting severe burns that left her hospitalised in the ICU at KLE Hospital, Belgaum, for an entire year. The physical scars were deep, but the emotional trauma ran even deeper.

For years, Neha hid herself from the world. Overwhelmed by shame, self-doubt, and fear, she questioned her worth and her future. Would anyone ever accept her again? Would life ever feel normal?

Music is not just a career for Gloann Carvalho; it’s an intrinsic part of her identity. From a young age, she was drawn to the power of song, and over time, this natural inclination blossomed into a dedicated pursuit. For Gloann, music has always been more than a passion—it’s a vital way of expressing herself. Her journey into the music industry is a testament to this deep connection.

A Lifelong Passion for Music

Gloann’s love for music started early in life, with a foundation rooted in school performances and church choirs. She fondly remembers being part of the Stuthi Choir, a pivotal experience that exposed her to the joys of communal singing. Music quickly became an essential outlet for her creativity, and it wasn’t long before she found herself performing at restaurants as part of a duo with a friend. These performances marked the beginning of a career that continues to evolve today.

“I've always pursued music as a passion,” she explains. “It’s more of an innate quality at this point— a way for me to express myself.”

Her enthusiasm for performing has not waned. Whenever possible, Gloann continues to take the stage, sharing her love for music with every audience she encounters. Whether it’s a casual gig or a special event, she thrives in creating memorable moments through song.

Defining Her Musical Style

Gloann’s music is a blend of crowd favourites, carefully selected to ensure her audience has a great time. Her performances span various genres, including pop, old rock, and R&B, which she believes resonate most with listeners. The ultimate goal is to keep people engaged and on their feet.

“We mostly select songs that are crowd favourites— those that will get you on your feet,” she notes. This focus on uplifting, energetic songs has become a signature of her style, making her performances exciting and engaging for fans.

Gloann Carvalho Overcoming Shyness and Embracing the Stage

For Gloann, one of the most defining moments in her career came when she made the decision to fully embrace her love for performing. Although she had always been a shy person, she realised that she wanted to share her passion for music with others. This realisation was a turning point in her career, pushing her to step beyond her comfort zone and perform publicly.

“When I knew I wanted to pursue performing, I decided to face my shyness and just go for it,” she recalls. “I knew I had to overcome that challenge to follow my passion.”

This determination to push through personal boundaries has allowed her to grow as an artist, building both confidence and a loyal fan base.

improvisation can only be successful if her skills are sharp enough to support it.

“I try my best to be as thorough as possible during rehearsals. If the need for improvisation arises, I rely on my skills to make it work,” she explains.

This balance between preparation and spontaneity is key to Gloann’s ability to deliver memorable live performances.

The Power of Collaboration

Collaboration plays a significant role in Gloann’s music career. She has come to understand that the best songs are often those performed with others, where harmony and connection elevate the music. For her, singing in unison with other musicians adds depth and energy to each performance.

Gloann and Mariah The Art of Song Interpretation

Gloann’s creative process when it comes to music is rooted in simplicity and practice. Rather than writing original songs, she prefers to take well-loved tracks and make them her own. For her, the key to mastering a song lies in repetition. The more she practices a song, the more it evolves to reflect her unique voice and style.

“I mostly pick a song I like and try to make it my own,” she shares. “It happens as I keep practicing the song. The more I sing it, the more I hear it in my voice, and that’s when it feels right.”

This approach has served her well, allowing her to perform with authenticity and passion, no matter the song.

Preparation for Performances

When it comes to live performances, Gloann is meticulous in her preparation. She believes that thorough preparation is essential for ensuring a smooth performance, but she also embraces the art of improvisation. However, she emphasises that

“It’s all about the harmony,” she says. “Songs are better when they’re sung together. I prefer collaborating with people who share this belief.”

This emphasis on harmony and shared musical vision ensures that Gloann’s performances are cohesive and impactful, further highlighting the power of collaboration in music.

Staying Relevant in a Changing Industry

In today’s fast-paced music industry, staying relevant can be challenging. For Gloann, the key lies in continually finding fresh ways to engage with her audience. By embracing new platforms and technologies, she ensures that her music resonates with both long-time fans and new listeners.

“Discovering newer ways to engage with your audience is crucial,” she notes. “The industry is constantly changing, but you have to find ways to make it work for you.”

Social media has played a pivotal role in Gloann’s ability to connect with her audience, allowing her to showcase her performances and personality to a wider reach. As she continues to refine her approach, she remains dedicated to her craft and to maintaining meaningful connections with those who support her music.

A Piece of Advice for Aspiring Artists

For those looking to break into the music industry, Gloann offers simple yet profound advice: Just start. The path will form along the way.

“Don’t wait for the perfect moment—just start. The rest will follow,” she encourages.

“Hopefully, in five years, I’ll still be performing and doing what I love,” she says with a smile.

Influences and Inspiration

Throughout her career, Gloann has been inspired by the work of other musicians. Their dedication and talent motivate her to improve and strive for excellence in her own performances.

This pragmatic advice is a reflection of Gloann’s own journey—she didn’t wait for everything to be perfect before taking the plunge into music. Instead, she took the leap and allowed her experiences to shape her career.

“They make me want to do better,” she explains.

The Future: Continuing to Perform

As Gloann Carvalho continues to share her love for music with the world, her journey is a testament to the power of following one’s passion and embracing the challenges along the way. With a commitment to authenticity, collaboration, and continual growth, Gloann is poised to remain a beloved figure in the music scene for years to come.

Looking ahead, Gloann envisions herself continuing to perform and share her music with the world. While she is not focused on launching new projects this year, she remains dedicated to honing her craft and finding new opportunities to connect with her audience.

It’s this drive to constantly grow and push her boundaries that keeps Gloann motivated to pursue her musical journey with passion and perseverance.

Meghna Amonkar From IT professional to full-time artist, Meghna Amonkar transformed her love for animals and art into Pet-traits—a heartfelt journey that began with her dog Taco and blossomed into hyper-realistic pet portraits, digital storytelling, and wildlife ceramics that honour every creature's spirit.

Sometimes, life nudges you in unexpected directions. For Meghna Amonkar, that nudge came in the form of a wagging tail and a soulful pair of eyes— her adopted Indie dog, Taco. After spending two decades in the corporate world, working with Tata Interactive Systems, Meghna had reached a point where the job felt repetitive. The thrill of climbing the corporate ladder had faded, and she found herself questioning what truly made her happy.

That’s when she decided to take a leap of faith. In December 2018, she left her job and launched Pettraits, a business dedicated to creating hand-painted pet portraits. At the time, the concept was rare in India. While some artists painted pets occasionally, there wasn’t anyone who specialised in it. Meghna saw an opportunity to blend her two biggest passions—art and animals.

Of course, there were no guarantees that it would work. All she had was a domain name for a website she hadn’t even built yet. Her first order came from a friend. But soon, her work started getting noticed.

Meghna Amonkar

Then came a breakthrough moment—painting the Dogs of Bombay House, a project that not only spread awareness about pet adoption but also led her to meet Ratan Tata himself.

Bringing Pets to Life on Canvas

For Meghna, a pet portrait is more than just a painting—it’s a way to honour a beloved companion. She doesn’t just work from photos; she asks pet parents about their animal’s personality, quirks, favourite spots, and little habits. Every small detail matters to her, from the exact shade of an eye to the unique markings on a snout.

Her style is hyper-realistic, which means she spends hours capturing the tiniest details. The one thing she never compromises on? The eyes. “If the eyes don’t speak to me, the portrait isn’t finished,” she says. She also gets requests to paint pets that have passed away. Sometimes, the only available pictures are

By 2022, Pet-traits had become well-established. But Meghna started craving a new challenge. That’s when she discovered ceramics. A short 10-day pottery course was enough to get her hooked.

Unlike painting, working with clay meant letting go of control. The medium had its own temperament— rushing the process could lead to cracks, and unexpected results were part of the journey. But Meghna loved it.

At first, she made custom pet figurines, sticking to what she knew best. But soon, she wanted to experiment beyond pets. She took a break from commissions and started sculpting wildlife, focusing on urban animals like leopards, otters, and squirrels.

Her ceramic work isn’t just about creating pretty objects—it carries a message. “We live alongside so

many incredible creatures, but we rarely acknowledge them,” she says. Through her work, she hopes to shift perspectives and make people see animals not as threats, but as part of their surroundings.

Debunking Myths About Digital Art

Unlike traditional painters who work with brushes and canvases, Meghna prefers digital painting. She uses Photoshop and a Wacom tablet, carefully layering colours and textures to create a handpainted look. But digital art is often misunderstood.

“Some people think the software does all the work for you, which couldn’t be further from the truth,” she explains. Every stroke is done by hand, just like in traditional painting. The only difference is that she holds a stylus instead of a brush. She avoids using filters or shortcuts, keeping the natural imperfections and organic strokes intact.

With AI-generated art becoming more common, Meghna believes it’s important to educate people about the difference between machine-created images and hand-painted digital work. “A portrait made by an artist has heart, and that’s something no software can replicate,” she says.

Painting Goa, The Bombay House Dog

One of Meghna’s most meaningful projects was painting Goa, Ratan Tata’s beloved Indie dog. Her connection with Bombay House began when she wrote a heartfelt letter to Mr. Tata in 2018, thanking him for his work with stray dogs. She never expected a reply, but to her surprise, she got one. That led to a meeting with Shantanu Naidu, who was managing Tata’s animal welfare initiatives. The idea to paint the Dogs of Bombay House came up, and Meghna jumped at the opportunity. She spent hours photographing and observing the dogs, understanding their personalities. Goa, Mr. Tata’s favourite, had already become a poster boy for the Adopt, Don’t Shop movement, so painting him felt extra special.

Her portraits were later displayed at a Starbucks near Bombay House, and the biggest highlight? Mr.

Leaving a Legacy Through Art

From painting pets to sculpting wildlife, Meghna’s journey has been about following her passion, even when it meant taking big risks.

She doesn’t just create art—she tells stories. Whether it’s a dog’s soulful gaze in a portrait, a leopard sculpted onto a plate, or a hand-crafted ceramic pendant, every piece carries a little bit of heart.

Looking back, she’s grateful she took that leap in 2018. Because what started as a passion project has now become a lifelong mission—to celebrate animals through art, one brushstroke and clay sculpture at a
