ALL LVL USED IN EXPOSED APPLICATIONS SUCH AS DECK BEARERS & JOISTS MUST BE H3 TREATED & SEALED Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL) products must only be used in exposed applications where wetting is periodic and can dry efficiently. Metsa Kerto LVL and ITI Spec Frame LVL must not be used in exposed structural applications where the installed LVL can not be regularly inspected for signs of moisture damage.

INSTALLATION REQUIEMENTS OF H3 TREATED LVL PRODUCTS: 1. The builder / end user is to retain the Treatment End Tags as evidence of treatment type and provider. 2. All edges and faces of members are to be painted / sealed prior to installation using an acceptable coating method, such as an acrylic system, using the manufacturers installation requirements. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7.

Always install a protective barrier to the top edge and exposed ends of all LVL’s in exposed applications using either tesa JoistSeal, a malthoid type barrier flashing or similar. Treatment chemical providers stipulate the LVL should be left for a minimum of 7 days after treating and wiped clean of dust, dirt, grease and any other residues before painting. Coating systems are to be regularly maintained in accordance with the manufacture’s requirements. Refer to AS1684.2 Appendix B for additional information on Timber Durability. ITI offer alternative products which are specifically developed for use in high moisture and exposed applications. Please discuss alternative options with your timber supplier if you feel the above requirements are not practical for your intended application.
