Questo mese Italo magazine vi porta anche in due città molto diverse tra loro, Milano e BenevenFIGURES RELEASED by the Ministry of Tourism for this Italian summer point to a new record: 43.3 million people travelled across to. This month, Italo magazine also takes you to two very different cities: Milan and Benevento. In both, we set out to discover remarkable places that may lie along our everyday routes but to which we have perhaps never paid enough attention, taking the time to stop and explore them. Milan is home to some of Italy’s most beautiful and important libraries, with new ones also being developed. Benevento boasts the Church of Santa Soia, one of the very few churches in the world with a starshaped loor plan. Since 2011, it has been protected by UNESCO as part of the serial World Heritage Site “The Longobards in Italy”. As always, we offer ideas to encourage you to look up and discover new perspectives.

ni, McCoy Tyner, George Benson, Wynton Marsalis and many others. The Jazz Club Ferrara is housed in the prestigious Torrione San Giovanni, a magnificent Renaissance bastion and a jewel of the ancient UNESCO-protected Este city walls. This historic setting hosts Ferrara in Jazz, a concert series featuring more than 80 performances from October to April. In Ferrara, the cultural journey continues at Palazzo dei Diamanti, where an exhibition running from 19 September to 10 January 2027 explores one of the most pivotal turning points in modern art. From Monet to Van Gogh and from Kandinsky to Mondrian, the exhibition takes visitors on a journey from Impressionism to the most innovative movements of the 20th century, revealing how European painting forever transformed the way we see and represent the world in less than 80 years. In Brescia, from 4 November 2026 to 22 August 2027, the Museo di Santa Giulia hosts “TESORI. Il grande romanzo dei Musei bresciani. 1826 | 2026” (“TREASURES. The Great Story of Brescia’s Museums. 1826 | 2026”). Promoted by the Municipality of Brescia and Fondazione Brescia Musei, the exhibition marks the culmination of celebrations for the bicentenary of the discovery of the Winged Victory and is curated by Roberta D’Adda and Stefano Karadjov. Featuring 100 works that are not normally on display, the exhibition tells the story of collecting in Brescia as a sweeping collective narrative, in which objects become living memories of the people and communities who have preserved and passed them down through the generations. Italo’s commitment to supporting culture also extends to experiences that appeal to a wide range of audiences, such as Vinòforum 2026, which celebrated the very best of Italian food and wine in the magnificent setting of Piazza di Siena in Rome. For seven days, wineries, consortia, chefs, restaurants, tastings and masterclasses transformed the city into a vast open-air gathering place, where wine became a story to be told, food provided an opportunity to connect, and local heritage became an expression of excellence. And then there is live music, experienced up close. This summer, Italo took its RedCarpet beyond the stations and into the heart of two major music events: Noisy Naples Fest and Raffo Parco Gondar. Through games, prizes, photo opportunities and interactive activities, audiences were able to engage with the brand in a new and exciting setting, making the journey part of the experience itself. This initiative builds on Italo RedCarpet, the entertainment platform dedicated to games, competitions, culture, music, cinema and events. For Italo, supporting these initiatives means taking travellers not just to a destination, but into the stories, places and vibrant spirit that make our country unique. Because every journey can become an opportunity to discover a concert, an exhibition, a festival, a flavour or a city. And because culture, when set in motion, can reach even further.

THE FRESCOES OF BRESSANONE CATHEDRAL Fifteen arches of the cloister of Bressanone Cathedral are decorated with frescoes by late medieval masters. As these paintings were created to adorn tombs, the frescoes were executed at different times by different artists.
On October 18, the Prosecco hills become a route made for running. The Ca’ del Poggio Run winds through vineyards, villages and ancient stonework, all the way to the famous Muro di Ca’ del Poggio. Every step climbs through nature and memory, in a UNESCOlisted landscape where sport and beauty come together stride after stride.
In the heart of Bressanone, the Cathedral Cloister preserves centuries of history. Dating back to the preRomanesque period and renovated between the 12th and 14th centuries, it enchants visitors with its Gothic vault and remarkably preserved frescoes. Among saints and medieval scenes, the elephant and the Adoration of the Magi stand out as timeless treasures of art and memory.

On the promontory of Agropoli, the Aragonese Castle watches over the sea, guardian of centuries of history and memory. Its origins are intertwined with the ancient Byzantine walls, moat and drawbridge; today, its parade ground opens onto greenery and theatrical performances. From the battlements, the gaze stretches across the Gulf of Salerno, where history and sea become poetry.
In Bologna, from October 22 to 25, time gets back on the road at Auto e Moto d’Epoca. More than 5,000 gems tell stories of engines, design and passion, alongside spare parts, memorabilia and precious details. A journey where past and future meet, bringing generations together.

cappare dall’overtourism.

SEA AND VILLAGES: SLOW HOLIDAYS IN OCTOBER Six destinations to explore when tourist numbers dwindle and the weather is still ideal for one last dip in the sea and for enjoying the sights at a more leisurely pace scaping overtourism has become one of the commandments of travel enthusiasts in recent years. Seaside destinations and even mountain resorts are becoming increasingly crowded, making it necessary to find new ways to enjoy our chosen destinations without stress or hectic schedules. Small towns and villages offer an excellent solution almost all year round, while for the most iconic destinations, the trick is to wait until the tide of people has receded. October is the perfect time to visit some of Italy’s most popular summer destinations, helped

by often favourable weather, and discover them from a different perspective. We begin in Portofino, Liguria’s most glamorous destination, which retains its charm even in autumn. At its heart lies the entirely pedestrianised piazzetta, lined with shops, boutiques, restaurants and ice cream parlours tucked beneath its porticoes. The square is flanked by distinctive houses with arched façades, decorated in the colourful Genoese style. In the oldest part of the village, the Church of San Martino di Tours is well worth discovering, with its brightly coloured bell tower and an interior rich in decorations, frescoes and paintings, including a canvas depicting Our Lady of the Rosary. This is the ideal time of year to enjoy a leisurely walk. Following the panoramic path, a ten-minute stroll leads to the Romanesque Church of San Giorgio, which houses the remains of Portofino’s patron saint. Continuing to the tip of the promontory, surrounded by a magnificent Mediterranean garden, visitors reach Castello Brown. Once the 19th-century residence of British consul Montague Yates Brown, the castle still preserves its original furnishings and hosts exhibitions and cultural events. A path from here leads to the lighthouse. Although the lighthouse itself is not open to visitors, the view over the Gulf of Tigullio is unparalleled. For trekking and cycling enthusiasts, Portofino Natural Park offers 80 kilometres of trails, ANGOLO DI PUGLIA Sopra l’Arco Scoppa, nella piazzetta antistante la cattedrale di Ostuni, in Puglia. including one leading to the picturesque Abbey of San Fruttuoso, overlooking the bay of the same name in the municipality of Camogli. Summer on the Romagna Riviera was exceptionally hot, with record-breaking temperatures, much like the rest of Italy. Although tourism igures did not reach record levels, hotel occupancy of 90%, as reported by local operators, is an excellent result. With the peak of both the heat and visitor numbers now over, this iconic stretch of coastline continues to show its best side until at least October, particularly in its southernmost section, home to the so-called “Queen of the Adriatic”: Cattolica. An elegant, reined town with tree-lined avenues, Cattolica has beneited from an urban regeneration project involving its squares, gardens and public spaces. Weather permitting, its wide beaches can offer one last taste of summer even in October, before the colder season arrives. There is plenty more to discover, including the historic harbour and the nearby square, with its boat-shaped fountain, as well as the Museo della Regina, which tells the story of Cattolica. The Aquarium is another must-see. The largest on the Adriatic, it houses approximately 3,000 specimens belonging to 400 different species of ish from seas around the world. For lovers of autumn foliage, Parco della Pace and Parco del Conca provide wonderful opportunities to admire the season’s changing colours. In October, time seems almost to stand still in Amali. The beaches are virtually deserted, and a sense of relaxation is everywhere. The streets of the town centre are no longer as crowded, and even the restaurants and cafés seem to take on a more intimate,

family atmosphere. Local specialities such as seafood scialatielli and the legendary delizia al limone can be savoured at a more leisurely pace. Visiting the Cathedral of Sant’Andrea becomes easier, and its monumental staircase can be climbed without having to weave between tourists. The same is true of the central square and the Cloister of Paradise, with its unmistakable interlacing arches and strong Oriental inluences. Beyond the town centre, nature has plenty to offer. Here, it is not just about the sea and sunsets, peaceful bays – especially at this time of year – and waves crashing against the rocks. It is also about exploring the many hiking trails along the Amali Coast. The most famous is the Path of the Gods, a nine-kilometre route stretching from Agerola to Positano and offering some of the most extraordinary views in the world. In Ostuni, getting lost in the narrow streets of the historic centre is a must. Wander among its little whitewashed houses before emerging onto one of the terraces overlooking the nearby Adriatic Sea. And then there is the sea itself. October can still offer glimpses of summer in this corner of Puglia, particularly when the frequent, cool northerly winds ease off. Around ive

kilometres from the historic centre, numerous beaches dot a coastline characterised by low cliffs and sandy coves. Back in the town centre, Piazza della Libertà is far less crowded in October than during the summer, allowing visitors to appreciate it more fully, along with the Column of Sant’Oronzo, dedicated to the patron saint who saved the White City from the plague. Beyond the countless narrow streets of the old town, Viale Pola, the historic shopping street, can be reached in approximately ten minutes on foot from the main square. This region also has a great deal to offer when it comes to food. Numerous restaurants serve local specialities such as orecchiette pasta, extra virgin olive oil and Puglian taralli, the indispensable accompaniment to an aperitivo in these parts. October is also an ideal time to discover Favignana, an island off the western coast of Sicily. With average daytime highs of around 24–25°C, the sea still relatively warm and fewer tourists around, visitors can explore the island at a more relaxed pace. Start with the beaches: two are sandy, Burrone and Praia, while the others are small coves nestled among the rocks. When choosing where to go, it is also important to pay attention to the wind, which can blow more strongly in autumn. When the sirocco is blowing, for example, Cala Rossa and the small beach beside the Florio tuna fishery are preferable choices. The latter is an absolute must-see. The former tuna-processing plant is now a museum where everything has been left in its original place: the machinery, equipment, nets, barrels, preserving tins and large boats once used for the traditional tuna harvest, known as the mattanza. A visit to Palazzo Florio and its gardens should not be missed either. For hiking enthusiasts, the recommendation is to climb Monte Santa Caterina to the abandoned fort at the summit. As the highest point on the island, it offers breathtaking 360-degree views of Favignana. Another island, this time in Sardinia: Carloforte is another destination best appreciated at a leisurely pace at this time of year. San Pietro is the largest island in the municipality, where Tabarchino, a language of Ligurian origin, is spoken. The area

was colonised in the 18th century by Genoese settlers who arrived from Tabarka, in Tunisia. The Ligurian influence is also evident in the local cuisine. One of the island’s specialities is pasticcio carlofortino, a dish combining pesto, tuna and buzzonaglia, the dark meat of tuna. These ingredients reflect the island’s long tradition of tuna fishing. The last remaining tuna fishery in Carloforte, one of the very few still operating in Europe and the Mediterranean, is located in the northern part of the main island. When it comes to beaches, some of the most beautiful and popular include Giunco, La Bobba and La Caletta. The island is very rocky, so there is no shortage of cliffs from which to dive into the sea, such as Le Colonne, La Conca and Genio. The real gem? Cala Fico, a small pebble beach nestled deep within a limestone inlet. A boat trip around the island is highly recommended to discover its most secluded coves, some of which can only be reached by sea. And there is even more for nature lovers. Beside the harbour lies a historic salt pan, now being decommissioned, where pink flamingos can be admired right up until October. The island of San Pietro is also perfect for walking and trekking enthusiasts. The weather at this time of year makes exploring particularly pleasant: the summer heat has gone, and so have the crowds. No overtourism. The destination is no longer a nightmare, but a dream to savour.

The International and Interconnected City is the project transforming part of Torino Esposizioni into a new public space, open to the city and the surrounding park, with almost one million books and around 1,500 seats TURIN’S ONGOING REGENERATION — encompassing the city, its parks and riverfront — has also involved its museum and cultural network in recent years, supported by funding from Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) and other state resources. One of the most significant projects is the new Central Civic Library, soon to be completed inside Pavilions 2 and 4 of the Torino Esposizioni complex. Inspired by the model of contemporary European public libraries, the project has involved the redevelopment of both indoor and outdoor areas covering a total of 20,000 square metres, while bringing new life to one of the city’s most iconic buildings, designed by Pier Luigi Nervi. Conceived as a dynamic and interactive environment, the library will connect the heritage of its collections with the possibilities of the digital age. Built using modern, sustainable solutions, it will house almost one million volumes and offer around 1,500 seats. The result will be a major cultural hub: accessible, inclusive and open to a wide range of visitors and to the city as a whole, all within a setting of exceptional architectural and landscape value.

RESEARCH
THE ULTRASONIC ESPRESSO The espresso of the future may not need boiling water at all. Researchers in Australia have developed a method that uses ultrasound — sound waves pitched beyond the range of human hearing — to extract coffee’s aromas, oils and caffeine at room temperature. The result is strikingly close to a conventional espresso. In taste tests, volunteers were unable to tell the difference. The process could also cut energy use by as much as 75%. If it can be scaled up, the technology could offer a radically more eficient way to brew coffee — without sacriicing the lavour and intensity espresso drinkers expect.

NON SOLTANTO SPOSTAMENTI Gli animali sanno sempre dove andare e soprattutto dove tornare.
MORE THAN MIGRATION Animals seem to know not only where to go, but how to find their way home.
Come fanno? VETERINARIAN FEDERICO COCCIA
ANIMAL JOURNEYS: AN EXTRAORDINARY GIFT OF NATURE When humans travel, we rely on maps, sat-navs, tickets, timetables — and, ideally, someone who remembers where we left the car. Animals need none of them. Many species travel thousands of kilometres with no GPS, no road signs and no written directions. Swallows cross continents and return to the same places year after year. Sea turtles can spend years roaming the open ocean, only to ind their way back to the beach where they were born. Salmon navigate upstream to the very stretch of river where their lives began. Whales cross entire oceans along routes that seem almost impossible to memorise. So how do they do it? Evolution has equipped different species with an astonishing range of navigational tools. Some can sense the Earth’s magnetic ield. Others use the position of the sun and stars. Still others follow scents, ocean currents or distinctive features in the landscape. Taken together, these abilities amount to a natural navigation system of remarkable precision — and one that, in many respects, outperforms our own. As a veterinarian, I ind one aspect particularly fascinating: for many animals, travelling is not simply about moving from one place to another. It is about knowing where to go — and, crucially, knowing how to return. We humans, meanwhile, can still get lost with a sat-nav telling us exactly where to turn. Then again, if comfort were the only priority, I might still choose the train.

Sixty years of ideas, campaigns and changing perspectives have helped shape environmental awareness in Italy. Rivoluzione Naturale (Natural Revolution), a free exhibition at MAXXI in Rome from 9 October to 8 November 2026, celebrates WWF Italy’s contribution to the country’s environmental movement and its long-standing commitment to protecting nature. Set across the museum’s indoor and outdoor spaces, the exhibition retraces the organisation’s journey while exploring the broader cultural shift it helped inspire: a new way of understanding the relationship between people and the natural world. From the creation of the first protected WWF Oases to landmark campaigns for biodiversity, the story comes to life through an engaging visitor experience designed to turn observation into participation. Step by step, visitors are invited to move from being spectators to becoming more aware, active agents of change. Thanks to a partnership with Italo, the exhibition also reaches travellers along their journey. As WWF’s Mobility Partner, Italo is supporting the initiative by promoting Rivoluzione Naturale on board its trains and in stations, inviting passengers to discover the exhibition and find out more about WWF Italy’s history.

Unire gli ingredienti botanici, spesso coltivati direttamente nella Tenuta di proprietà, a una solida attività di ricerca cosmetica, che include progetti sviluppati anche in collaborazione con l’Università di Siena. journey that began among the hills of Pienza, in the heart of the Val d’Orcia, and continues today by making its connection with the places where it all started even more explicit. Founded in 1972 as a small artisanal herbalist’s shop, Bottega Verde has transformed the botanical richness of its territory into a leading Italian cosmetics company. Its mission? To combine botanical ingredients, often grown directly on the brand’s own estate, with extensive cosmetic research, including projects developed in collaboration with the University of Siena. The brand strongly believes in an inclusive, democratic and deeply sensorial idea of beauty, turning daily skincare into a moment of pure pampering. Its strength lies in complete control of the supply chain – from the land to the laboratories and all the way to more than 350 stores – allowing the brand to combine high eficacy with a wide variety of innovative fragrances and textures. Among its iconic collections is Momenti di Toscana, a range of fragrances and products for the body and home inspired by the simple, poetic moments of Tuscan life, with each scent bearing a name drawn from the local vernacular. Among the new launches for autumn is Balì Eau de Parfum, an enveloping burst of Milk Cream and Amber inspired by the sweetness of small everyday gestures. But the real turning point this season is the relaunch of the brand identity with the unveiling of the new Bottega Verde Toscana logo. Revealed in grand style during the recent Milano Beauty Week in September, the new brand identity makes the company’s unbreakable bond with its roots even more explicit, renewing its logo, color palette and positioning. This new direction is summed up by the brand’s new tagline: “Experience all the emotions of beauty.” Benedetto Lavino, Executive Chairman of Bottega Verde, describes the evolution as follows: “We are making what sets us apart even more visible, carrying our origins into the future through a new strategic framework based on innovation and stronger relationships with consumers.” A tangible expression of this journey is the Saponaria line, the new musthave for cleansing. Inspired by the purifying properties of the Tuscan plant of the same name, the range offers 10 sensorial rituals featuring innovative textures and the unmistakably fresh, contemporary touch of a beauty philosophy that looks to the future without forgetting where it comes from.

KANDINSKY AT PALAZZO BONAPARTE After more than 25 years, Palazzo Bonaparte is hosting an extraordinary exhibition dedicated to Vassily Kandinsky, the creator of one of the most dazzling artistic revolutions of the 20th century, the artist who liberated colour and transformed it into pure emotion, paving the way for abstraction. More than 70 masterpieces, made possible by an exceptional loan from the Centre Pompidou in Paris, retrace the full human and artistic journey of the painter. For the irst time, and until 14 February 2027, the exhibition also features a selection of works by Gabriele Münter, an outstanding artist and Kandinsky’s life partner: a revelation of remarkable intensity.

TOURISM IN ITALY: A GOLDEN SUMMER Arrivals, overnight stays and spending all increased in July and August, while September kept the momentum going, with 10 million Italians travelling — mainly to the coast, art cities and mountain destinations. Here are the key findings from the Demoskopika survey
ITALY IS HAVING A STRONG SUMMER — AT LEAST ON THE TOURISM FRONT. According to figures compiled by Demoskopika, July and August brought 43.3 million arrivals and 188.8 million overnight stays, helping push tourism spending up by 7.5% to a total of €20.4 billion. Part of that growth, however, is being driven by higher prices. Inflation added an estimated €541 million to the overall bill, with tourism inflation running at 2.6% — its lowest level in three years. In other words, prices are still rising, but at a slower pace. The momentum has also carried into September. A survey by the Confturismo Confcommercio Observatory, conducted with SWG, found that at least 10 million Italians chose the month for a break, favouring short trips and domestic destinations. The coast remains the clear favourite, attracting 41% of travellers, followed by art cities at 26% and mountain destinations. Tuscany leads the ranking of preferred regions, ahead of Campania and Emilia-Romagna.

MILAN: A HOME FOR BOOKS Not only Italy’s publishing capital but also a UNESCO Creative City of Literature, Milan boasts some of the country’s most beautiful and richly stocked libraries. And they are open to visitors Text by Cristina Griner
A
city of authors, publishers and, above all, readers, Milan is where more books are produced, bought and read than anywhere else in Italy. This is why, in 2017, the Lombard capital was designated a UNESCO Creative City of Literature. It is a distinction unique in Italy, earned in part thanks to Milan’s long-established library tradition. From

historic libraries – guardians of priceless treasures that can be visited like museums while remaining vibrant institutions open to scholars – to neighbourhood libraries, the city boasts an extraordinary literary heritage. The oldest, and perhaps best hidden, is the Biblioteca Capitolare, whose origins date back to the Middle Ages but which has been housed in the Palazzo dei Cano-
nici del Duomo since 1635. A veritable treasure trove for scholars of history and liturgy, it preserves numerous richly illuminated manuscripts, 15th-century printed books – including works by Saint Ambrose – and extensive collections of texts and studies from the 17th and 18th centuries. The library is open daily to scholars and researchers, while guided tours are available to everyone (tel. +39 02 72008540). The Veneranda Biblioteca Ambrosiana, meanwhile, was inaugurated on 8 December 1609. Conceived by its founder, Archbishop Federico Borromeo, as a centre for study and culture, it was among the irst libraries in the world to grant access to anyone who could simply read and write. Also located in the historic centre, in the area known as the Cinque Vie, it occupies an elegant Baroque building constructed speciically to house both the library and the Pinacoteca of the same name. Initially comprising approximately 30,000 printed books and 8,000 manuscripts, its collections have expanded

considerably over the centuries thanks to major donations. Today, the Ambrosiana boasts a collection of around one million volumes, almost 40,000 Greek, Latin, vernacular and Oriental manuscripts – including Leonardo da Vinci’s world-famous Codex Atlanticus – 12,000 drawings by artists such as Raphael, Pisanello and Leonardo, 22,000 prints and other rarities, including ancient maps, musical manuscripts, parchments and papyri. The library is open to scholars by appointment, while the Pinacoteca can be visited daily and displays a rotating selection of pages from the Codex Atlanticus (ambrosiana.it). Almost two centuries later, in 1786, the Biblioteca Braidense opened to the public. Established at the behest of Empress Maria Theresa of Austria, it was housed in the former Jesuit College of Brera, alongside the Academy of Fine Arts, the Lombard Institute of Sciences and Letters, the Astronomical Observatory, the Botanical Garden and, subsequently, the Pinacoteca. Granted the status of a national library

The library can be visited as part of the “I Tesori della Ca’ Granda” (“The Treasures of Ca’ Granda”) museum tour (policlinico.mi.it/beniculturali). Milan’s Central Municipal Library, meanwhile, is preparing to move. Known to locals as the Sormani, after the historic palace that has housed it for 70 years, it is scheduled to relocate by 2027 to the BEIC, the new European Library of Information and Culture currently under construction on the site of the former Porta Vittoria railway station. Founded around 1890 in Palazzo Marino as

a library for school staff, it moved to Castello Sforzesco in 1914 and subsequently to its current premises in Corso di Porta Vittoria in 1956. The Central Municipal Library holds approximately one million volumes covering every ield of knowledge, with particular emphasis on the humanities, law and the arts. It also houses a comprehensive collection of newspapers and magazines from around the world, as well as a video library containing exceptionally rare material. One of its outstanding features is the Stendhal Centre, which preserves furniture, personal objects, manuscripts and books that once belonged to the writer, together with more than 2,000 items from the Pincherle Stendhal Collection. The library offers free guided tours (tel. 800880066). A hidden gem, despite its location on the outskirts of the city, is the Affori Municipal Library. It occupies the piano nobile, or principal loor, of Villa Litta Modignani, a late 17th-century aristocratic residence built in the late Baroque style. The villa boasts a magniicent hall, which hosts concerts, conferences and exhibitions, as well as a small chapel entirely decorated with frescoes. The library features a large section dedicated to children and young adults, a local history section and an extensive collection of comics and graphic novels (milano.biblioteche.it/library/affori).

Standing between the Rocca dei Rettori and Piazza Piano di Corte — the ancient Planum Curiae, once the seat of power of the Lombard dukes and princes — the church today has a Baroque façade, created in the years following the devastating earthquake of 1688. It was retained during the restorations of 1957, which instead removed most of the 18th-century alterations and restored the church’s original 8th-century star-shaped layout. Beyond the ine Romanesque portal, topped by an exquisite lunette depicting Christ enthroned, the Virgin Mary and Saint Mercurius — whose relics have been housed in the church since the time of Arechi — the interior reveals an unusual and complex space bearing the traces of more than a thousand years of history. Columns and piers are arranged to form a central hexagon supporting the dome, rebuilt after the earthquake, and a concentric decagon, with three apses opposite the entrance. The columns of the hexagon reuse capitals dating from classical antiquity, while the square-section piers are built of limestone and brick. The walls were once probably entirely covered in frescoes, as suggested by the surviving fragments dating from the 8th century. In the left apse, scenes from the life of Saint John the Baptist can

still be seen, while the right apse preserves episodes from the life of the Virgin. The area in front of the church has also undergone extensive changes over the centuries, radically altering its original appearance. Today’s Piazza Santa Soia was laid out in 1809 and features a fountain at its centre with an obelisk supported by four lions, erected in honour of Charles-Maurice de Talleyrand, then Prince of Benevento. Standing some distance from the church is the bell tower, rebuilt in 1703 to replace the original structure, which had been erected shortly after the year 1000 and collapsed during the earthquake. The cloister of the monastery of Santa Soia and the adjoining monastic buildings now house the Museo del Sannio. Its collections include archaeological inds from the Temple of Isis, commissioned by the Roman emperor Domitian in AD 88, as well as a rich body of Lombard artefacts bearing witness to Benevento’s importance as the capital of Langobardia Minor. Late Antique and Lombard funerary inscriptions of considerable historical interest are displayed in the rooms adjoining the cloister, where showcases also contain male and female grave goods, including coins, jewellery, weapons and other artefacts. The church is open to visitors every day except Monday (santasoiabenevento.it), as is the museum (retemuseale.provincia.benevento.it).

AN ALTERNATIVE ESCAPE OF HISTORY, FOOD AND NATURE In the historic centre of Teano, a carefully restored period palazzo has opened its doors to travellers looking to discover a corner of Italy that still lies beyond the main tourist routes. Guests have four rooms, a secret garden and a bistro-restaurant devoted to authentic local cuisine and the culture of good drinking. The name draws on Aristotle’s concept of the quintessence. To the four traditional elements — earth, air, fire and water, which also give the rooms their names — all associated with change and decay, Aristotle added a fifth: aether, the intangible substance believed to make up the heavens and the soul. Just a few steps from historic Porta Napoli, the oldest surviving gateway of medieval Teano, an arched entrance opens onto an unexpected setting: a stone house with a roof garden overlooking the town’s rooftops, domes and bell towers. The kitchen is led by Anna Merlino, a cook, expert pasta maker and baker whose seasonal, authentic and sustainable cuisine places ingredients and local traditions centre stage. The guest rooms occupy the first floor of the adjoining palazzo. Everything here invites you to linger and explore, on foot or by bicycle, Teano’s historic centre and a little-known corner of Campania where time seems to move more slowly, nature flourishes and food and wine offer nourishment for the soul.

HOTEL DU TASSO – SORRENTO (NAPOLI)
A STORY OF HOSPITALITY, RENEWED IN HARMONY WITH ITS SURROUNDINGS A 16th-century residence and the birthplace of Torquato Tasso, who spent the first six years of his life here, the property began its long tradition of hospitality in the 18th century. Its recent reopening marks a new chapter, reinterpreting the allure of the past through a contemporary lens and creating an atmosphere that feels both refined and timeless. In keeping with its close dialogue with the surrounding landscape, particular attention has been given to the historic garden, now planted with species typical of the Sorrento Peninsula. Lemon and citrus trees immerse guests in an unmistakably Mediterranean atmosphere. The 34 rooms, including 15 suites and junior suites, have been designed to offer a sophisticated yet relaxed stay, enhanced by carefully selected fabrics and fine finishes. Facilities include private access to the sea, a wellness area set within ancient Roman-era tuff caves, a panoramic gym and, due to open in the coming months, a spa. In the kitchen, chef Marco Del Sorbo pays tribute to the culinary traditions of Sorrento and Campania through a contemporary interpretation centred on outstanding ingredients, technique and the flavours of the region. The experience is completed by a dining offer that is also open to non-resident guests.

ROOTS AND EMOTIONS IN CHIANTI CLASSICO “Authentic, deeply rooted and elegant”: this is how Enrico Viglierchio, General Manager of ABFE Italy and France, describes the hospitality at Dievole Wine Resort. The estate also produces extra virgin olive oil and high-quality wines
D
ievole, Latin for “God wills it”, embodies the essence of the bond with the land and the cycle of the seasons. A thousand years of history devoted irst to cultivating vineyards and olive groves, and later to hospitality, which made its appearance after nine centuries of land and wine. And not by chance. Dievole is not a resort built on an estate: “It is a farming village that has learned to welcome guests over time.” This vision took shape in 2012 when, as Enrico Viglierchio, General Manager of ABFE Italy & France, explains, “the Bulgheroni family acquired the property and developed its hospitality offering from what the place already knew how to do, revealing a vocation for welcoming guests that had long been embedded in its land and stones. This is the difference between a resort designed as such from the outset and a place that has learned to become one over time.” The buildings that accommodate guests today – the 18th-century manor house, the farmhouses and the stone and brick outbuildings – are the very same structures that shaped life on the estate for centuries. Visitors arriving at Dievole enter a place where everything contributes to “an authentic experience shaped by history, landscape, culture, lavours and traditional knowledge, with a strong sense of identity deeply rooted in the surrounding territory of Chianti Classico.” Its strength lies in “consistency: everything here is part of a story that spans a thousand years. But above all, even if it may sound a little obvious, our greatest strength lies in the people who feel part of a shared project, with the desire and responsibility to act as ambassadors for an extraordinary region and its history, surrounding guests with smiles and stories.” Another indulgence is the culinary offering created by chef Monika Filipinska at the Novecento restaurant, “which conveys the essence of the territory without ever resorting to clichés or artiice, through cuisine rooted in local tradition and reinterpreted with elegance and a light touch.” There is also a wide range of activities “designed to allow guests to experience the same rhythms and rituals that have been part of this land for centuries, including wine tours, also available in a Wine&Dine format.” Choosing Dievole therefore means having the opportunity to “listen to the rhythm of these hills, discover hospitality that combines authenticity and reinement, and experience Chianti Classico by connecting with a spirit that permeates every aspect of the estate…”

Corso Meridionale 7/A, Napoli Tel. 081 5590710 pintauro.eu FROM SFOGLIATELLE TO LEAVENED DELIGHTS In Naples, pastry-making is a form of memory, and the aroma of a warm sfogliatella, fresh from the oven, is enough to evoke its entire history. At Pintauro, in Corso Meridionale, this history is told above all through the sfogliatella, whose origins are shrouded in legend and tradition. It is said to have featured in pagan rituals as early as pre-Roman Naples, while around the 17th century its recipe was reportedly preserved in the Convent of the Croce di Lucca, in the heart of the ancient city. Its strength lies in its simplicity: ricotta, semolina, sugar and candied orange peel, carefully balanced to create a fragrant, delicate filling. Whether riccia, with its crisp, layered pastry, or frolla, with its shortcrust shell, the texture changes but the soul remains the same. Pintauro also preserves the traditional tappo: the outer part of the riccia, a crisp layer of pastry that not all pastry shops continue to make. This is also a destination for the great classics of Neapolitan pastry-making: babà, pastiere, capresi, polacche and zeppole di San Giuseppe, as well as the Fiocco Partenopeo, a soft little brioche filled with milk cream and sheep’s milk ricotta. Tradition also extends to leavened pastries. The cornetto, made with Italian butter, eggs, honey and freeze-dried sourdough starter, takes shape through more than thirty hours of resting and proofing. This is Pintauro’s defining philosophy: preserving the Neapolitan pastry tradition without allowing it to become frozen in time, alternating between cherished classics and new interpretations, both sweet and savoury.
WHERE PIZZA MEETS SEAFOOD CUISINE Casa Clementina has opened in Fiumicino: Luca Pezzetta’s new project builds on the success of his pizzeria with a concept in which pizza and seafood cuisine coexist without boundaries. Alongside light pizza doughs and iconic thin, round Roman-style pizzas comes the creative signature of chef Simone Curti, who showcases the local catch through simple, contemporary dishes. The menu encourages sharing: from sourdough bread to small pan pizzas topped with shellish, from savoury laky pastries to raw seafood, followed by pasta dishes served in the centre of the table, such as squid Gricia, and grilled ish. A culinary journey that brings together the art of dough-making, seasonality and locally sourced ingredients in an informal setting. The idea is simple: pizza and dishes from the kitchen can be ordered together, with no need to choose one over the other.

Via Castelidardo angolo San Marco, Milano Tel. 02 63793837 danielcanzian.com A TASTE OF VENETO IN BRERA Daniel Canzian Ristorante reopens with a fresh new look: reclaimed Venetian mooring-post wood, glass, brass and shades of Venetian red transform the dining room, complementing a culinary style that is increasingly pared-back, light and distinctive. Daniel Canzian’s signature is evident in dishes that simplify tradition without turning their backs on it. From September, the restaurant also comes to life from 6 p.m. with aperitivo and Venetian-style cicchetti. Flaky bread, creamed salt cod with polenta, Parmigiano and the risotto of the day offer a contemporary interpretation of Venice. 58
Corso Moncalieri 5/B, Torino Tel. 379 1285944 casacarnera.it A RETURN TO THE ORIGINS In the elegant heart of Turin, just a few steps from the Gran Madre, Casa Carnera – Cantina e Cucina takes shape as a contemporary retreat designed to make guests feel truly at home. This is more than a statement of intent: it is a distinctive approach to hospitality, built around genuine warmth, conviviality and a cuisine that returns to the essentials. At the heart of everything is cooking over embers, understood as a language even before it becomes a technique. Fire, time and ingredients guide a culinary philosophy that reconnects with the most primordial essence of cooking, iltered through a modern sensibility. Chef Yari Sità creates a culinary journey that combines Piedmontese traditions with inluences from further aield, from Catalonia to Japan, giving life to dishes that engage in a natural, harmonious dialogue. Three-meat plin pasta inished over the embers, pappardelle with smoked ragù, seasonal vegetables and even grilled pineapple relect a coherent culinary identity in which ire enhances lavours without ever overpowering them. The result is cuisine that is essential yet creative. Meat takes centre stage, with selections such as Fassona beef, Tomahawk and T-Bone steaks, alongside distinctive creations such as the Foie Burger “Rossini”, an indulgent and reined combination. Everything begins with a carefully considered selection of local ingredients, treated with respect and allowed to express their natural character. Alongside the cuisine is a wine cellar designed to provide balanced pairings, prioritising drinkability and enjoyment. More than a restaurant, a contemporary home.

VIAGGIARE TRA I PAESAGGI AGRICOLI ITALIANI NEL NOSTRO PAESE IL LEGAME TRA BIOLOGICO E COOPERAZIONE È FONDAMENTALE PER LE ECONOMIE LOCALI
A

A BUBBLY SIDE OF ROMAGNA! Bolé lies at the heart of the Novebolle project, a celebration of Romagna’s sparkling-wine tradition. Made from Trebbiano and Famoso grapes, it has a bright straw-yellow colour and a ine, persistent perlage. The nose is fragrant, with notes of hawthorn, green apple and citrus.
VERMENTINO IN A TUXEDO An undisputed symbol of Italian winemaking, Santa Margherita has showcased the Valdobbiadene terroir since the 1950s, elevating the Glera grape to a global byword for elegance and enjoyment. This Prosecco Superiore DOCG Brut is born in a unique natural amphitheatre, amid steep, meticulously tended rows of vines linking the historic hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene. The composition of the pre-Alpine soils, rich in clay and limestone, together with the constant temperature variations, gives the grapes an exceptionally reined aromatic proile and creates a landscape of almost surreal beauty. The wine ferments in pressurised tanks according to the Martinotti method and rests on its lees to preserve the vibrant, pristine freshness of the fruit. In the glass, it shines a pale straw yellow, enhanced by a ine, abundant and remarkably persistent perlage. The palate is rounded yet dry, with refreshing acidity that cleanses the palate and delivers exceptional freshness. Perfect as a sophisticated aperitif, it is equally memorable paired with seafood risotto or delicate white-ish carpaccio.

ONE MORE DAY OF CINEMA From 13 to 25 October, the Rome Film Fest is extending its run by one day. Paolo Genovese’s Il rumore delle cose nuove opens the festival; Javier Bardem will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award from Paolo Sorrentino ahead of the screening of Rodrigo Sorogoyen’s new film
THE ROME FILM FEST is growing, adding an extra day for its 21st edition. Following the success of recent years and an increase in the number of films submitted, the festival will open earlier, on Tuesday 13 October, and run until Sunday 25 October at the Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone. The programme will open with Paolo Genovese’s Il rumore delle cose nuove, presented in the Grand Public section. The director returns to ensemble storytelling: three couples, trapped in the reassuring cages they have built around their lives, are swept up in an unexpected event. The cast includes Emanuela Fanelli, Claudia Pandolfi, Vittoria Puccini, Stefano Accorsi, Lino Musella, Edoardo Pesce and Claudio Santamaria. One of the most eagerly anticipated moments will be the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award to Javier Bardem by Paolo Sorrentino. The tribute will precede the screening of El ser querido, acclaimed at Cannes and directed by Rodrigo Sorogoyen, now among the leading figures in Spanish and European cinema. Bardem plays a legendary film director marked by violence and excess. A dark role.
THE VENUE REMAINS UNCHANGED As every year, the Rome Film Fest takes place at the Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone.

NEW EMOTIONS FROM THE EAST The latest launches unveiled at Pitti Fragranze clearly reveal the emerging trends set to shape the future of niche perfumery. Fragrance transcends its role as a mere accessory to become a deeply emotional experience and an expression of personal identity. At the forefront is emotional perfumery: formulations born from the fusion of fragrance and neuroscience, rich in molecules capable of promoting well-being and balance. Understated luxury takes centre stage, defined by the concept of a second skin, where airy musks, velvety iris and clean notes evoke the transparency of dew, fresh paper and soft fabrics. Alongside this molecular minimalism, artistic perfumery opens the door to the olfactory landscapes of the East. On one side, the ethereal purity of K-Beauty emerges through botanical accords, rice and delicate nuances of pure tea. On the other, the contemporary opulence of the Middle East makes a bold statement: creations from Oman and Dubai define a new kind of glamour, blending royal frankincense, oud and amber with the elegance of Western perfumery. The reinvention of gourmand fragrances completes this new vision: cloying notes give way to dark, spicy compositions enriched with touches of chocolate, coffee and warm spices. An olfactory alchemy that celebrates authenticity, comfort and fluid, genderless seduction.

DIGGER
stesse azioni distrugga ogni cosa. Pictures.

Following the honorary Oscar he received in 2026 and an extraordinary run of box-ofice success, culminating in the phenomenon of Top Gun: Maverick, Tom Cruise may have found in Digger the role that could put him back in contention for the Academy Award for Best Actor. Directed by Oscar winner Alejandro G. Iñárritu, the ilm stars Cruise as the most powerful man in the world, forced to embark on a desperate mission to present himself as humanity’s saviour before the catastrophe caused by his own actions destroys everything. The story promises to blend satire, drama and moral allegory, tackling highly topical themes such as the arrogance of power, individual and collective responsibility, corruption and environmental protection. Cruise is joined by a stellar cast including Riz Ahmed, Sandra Hüller, Jesse Plemons, John Goodman and Michael Stuhlbarg. Shot entirely in VistaVision, Digger arrives in cinemas on 1 October, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.

“MUSTANG”, BIAGIO ANTONACCI’S NEW ALBUM After more than three months of live performances in unique, intimate venues with his “Unplugged 2026” tour, the Milanese singer-songwriter is ready for a new studio adventure. On 25 September, Biagio Antonacci released “Mustang”, an album of new material that he himself describes as “an intimate and intense work in which journeys come to life through music, accompanied by events. Stories to experience. Dreams to relive.” The album, featuring six previously unreleased tracks, was preceded by its lead single, “You&Me”, a genuine dialogue between oneself and others. “This song is a dialogue with yourself, with your partner, with the people who share your life, in search of the right balance between responsibilities and personal happiness. It is about finding a space where you can truly love each other without giving up everything else, while life goes on, with its everyday routines that can sometimes feel too restrictive.”

ELEGANCE AND FEMININITY, EVEN IN A MINI SIZE There is a first time for everything. And that applies to Baume & Mercier’s iconic Hampton collection too, which, for the occasion, goes XS. A mini format that changes nothing: it preserves the watch’s elegance, its architectural character and its Art Deco spirit. With its new silhouette, the Hampton stands out for a number of distinctive features. The first is, of course, the unmistakable, strictly rectangular case, now reduced in size (28 × 17.75 mm) without sacrificing its proportions or formal harmony. Then there is the new dial – free of hour markers – faceted on all four sides like a finely cut gemstone, creating a delicate interplay of volumes that catches and reflects the light. Also new is the metal bracelet with diamond-shaped links, which extends the architectural language of the case while ensuring flexibility and comfort on the wrist. The model is available in stainless steel, with a 4N PVD finish, or in a version embellished with diamonds.

OLED WITHOUT COMPROMISE The Panasonic MZ2000E is aimed squarely at discerning viewers who care more about picture quality than irst impressions. Its design steers clear of the ultra-slim bezel trend, but that quickly becomes irrelevant once the screen lights up. The Master OLED Pro panel, driven by Panasonic’s HCX Pro processor, delivers crisp detail, vibrant colours and deep, convincing contrast. Audio, developed in partnership with Technics, adds an immersive three-dimensional soundstage. My Home Screen 8.0 rounds out the smart TV experience, while gamers are well catered for with a 120 Hz refresh rate and support for both G-Sync and FreeSync Premium.
MORE SCREEN, MORE AI Samsung is refreshing its mid-range line-up with the Galaxy A27 5G, a smartphone built around a 6.7-inch 120 Hz Ininity-O Super AMOLED display, a slimmer design and dependable performance courtesy of the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 platform. The main attraction, however, is AI. Features range from Circle to Search and advanced photoediting tools to transcription, alongside support for Gemini, Perplexity and Bixby. Six years of software updates and Knox Vault security complete an unusually well-rounded package for the mid-range segment.
