THE CHARM OF OUR CITIES’ CAFÉS: PLACES OF CULTURE AND CONTEMPLATION

Tra i clienti più affezionati c’erano artisti, filosofi e poeti dell’epoca. feature in this issue of Italo Magazine is dedicated to some of the historic cafés in our cities. We couldn’t include them all, so please forgive us if your personal favourite is missing. Instead, we invite you to discover and experience some new ones. The destinations we recommend in this issue of Italo Magazine are Salerno and Florence, two very different cities, yet both full of charm. Salerno, in the Campania region, is known for its Baroque architecture as well as the spectacular light displays and Christmas illuminations of the Luci d’Artista festival. One more reason to hop aboard an Italo train and explore the city. Florence, meanwhile, is home to some lesser-known masterpieces by Giotto, and this month, Italo Magazine takes you on a journey to discover them, offering a different, deeper perspective on the city on the banks of the Arno. Enjoy your journey and happy reading!

E

conomia, politica e cultura in piazza.

CONFESERCENTI FORUM 2026: ITALO SUPPORTS THE INITIATIVE

E

conomics, politics and culture take centre stage in the square. From October 9 to 14, Piazza del Popolo in Rome became a space for public dialogue with “Aperti”, the Confesercenti Forum 2026, an event open to everyone. Political and institutional figures, from government ministers to party leaders, engaged in discussions with representatives of the business community and President Gronchi about the country’s future. Alongside the debates, concerts and live performances brought the square to life. At the heart of the event were local businesses operating in retail, tourism and services: enterprises that bring neighbourhoods to life, create jobs and help make cities more liveable and attractive. Italo proudly supported the initiative, sharing its spirit and commitment to promoting dialogue, participation and the development of local communities.

THE TRAINS OF THE FUTURE During the talk, CEO Gianbattista La Rocca and Michele Viale presented the project for 12 new Avelia Stream high-speed trains, currently under construction at Alstom’s manufacturing facilities.

ITALO AT INNOTRANS: A RESOUNDING SUCCESS From its ever-stronger partnership with Alstom to the sustainability award it received, the Berlin event proved to be a triumph for the company

N

early twenty years of working together, with their sights always set on the future. The partnership between Italo and Alstom, celebrated at InnoTrans 2026, tells an industrial success story built on trust, innovation and a shared vision. During a talk hosted at the Alstom stand, Gianbattista La Rocca, CEO of Italo, and Michele Viale, Managing Director of Alstom in Italy, presented the 12 new Avelia Stream high-speed trains, designed for the Italian market and currently under construction at Alstom’s manufacturing facilities. The partnership began in 2008, when Italo chose Alstom as its technology partner to establish Italy’s irst private high-speed rail operator, helping to open the market to competition and transform the way people travel across the country. Since then, the collaboration has grown alongside Italo: from 25 AGV trains to 26 EVO trains, and now the 12 new Avelia Stream trains. Their entry into service, scheduled to begin in late 2027, will bring Italo’s leet to 63 trains, marking another milestone in a journey that combines technological excellence, Italian expertise and a commitment to sustainability. Alstom supports the entire lifecycle of Italo’s leet, providing not only the trains themselves but also maintenance, operational management, technical support and modernisation programmes. Every day, more than 220 professionals work at maintenance depots to ensure reliability, service continuity and availability, making maintenance operations increasingly fast and eficient. Innovation is also making its way on board. Thanks to Nomad Digital, an Alstom Group company, Italo is developing next-generation connectivity services, including a hybrid platform combining 5G networks and Starlink satellite technology, designed to deliver a more stable, high-performance connection even along the most challenging routes. It is precisely this ability to evolve together that makes the relationship between Italo and Alstom so special: a partnership that brings together

expertise, people and technologies to turn every challenge into an opportunity for progress. All with a shared goal: to offer passengers an increasingly safe, comfortable and connected travel experience, while continuing to shape the mobility of tomorrow on Italy’s high-speed rail network. For the second consecutive year, Italo has distinguished itself at the UIC Sustainability Impact Awards, the prestigious awards organised by the International Union of Railways in collaboration with the Foundation for Sustainable Development. Once again, the company received an award in the Seamless Connectivity category for its Integrated Connectivity project, reafirming its commitment to developing an increasingly integrated, accessible and environmentally friendly travel model. The project simpliies mobility by bringing together high-speed rail, Itabus coaches, regional rail services and maritime connections in a single digital solution. With just one purchase and a coordinated itinerary, passengers can reach more than 150 cities, including destinations not served by high-speed rail, as well as the cruise ports of Venice, Naples and Civitavecchia. Features such as a single ticket code and free automatic rebooking for Italo+Itabus journeys, together with dedicated services for passengers with reduced mobility, make the travel experience even more reliable. Parking, taxis, luggage storage and tourism services complete an offering designed to accompany travellers throughout their entire journey, placing rail at the heart of an eficient, inclusive door-to-door mobility system. The results conirm the effectiveness of Integrated Connectivity: in 2025, both the number of intermodal passengers and post-journey satisfaction levels on Italo trains increased. Furthermore, the integration of low-emission collective transport services such as Italo and Itabus demonstrates a positive environmental impact. The modular platform, open to new operators and modes of transport, thus embodies a connected and inclusive approach to mobility, capable of generating environmental and social beneits.

CAFFÈ STORICI SALOTTI D’ALTRI TEMPI 12

S

archi, colonne, soffitti affrescati e arredi d’epoca.

The café’s history has become intertwined with that of the Alciati family, who brought the flavours of the Langhe to this historic setting, from plin ravioli to meats, cheeses and products from small local producers, all reinterpreted with a contemporary sensibility. Wines, cocktails and pastries complete an experience where tradition becomes a sophisticated way of embracing the present. In Milan, the ritual comes in the colour of Campari. Camparino in Galleria, opened by Davide Campari in 1915, is the place where the famous Campari Seltz has become part of the city’s identity. the Italian aperitivo. Sitting here means admiring Milan from its most celebrated showcase: the Duomo, the Galleria and the constant low of cosmopolitan life. Time seems to stand still in Venice, where Caffè Florian, opened in 1720 beneath the Procuratie Nuove in St Mark’s Square, is Italy’s oldest café still in operation. Its rooms, illed with velvet, mirrors, decorations and memories, have witnessed almost three centuries of history. At Florian, drinking coffee takes on a cinematic quality: you sip it while gazing out over the square, inevitably wondering how many others have performed the very same ritual over the centuries. Stepping inside Caffè degli Specchi reveals Trieste at its most intimate: cosmopolitan, cultured and slightly melancholic. Overlooking Piazza Unità d’Italia, it is one of the most iconic landmarks of the city’s Central European heritage. Established in 1839, it has welcomed writers, merchants, travellers and members of the city’s fashionable society, preserving all its original charm. In Genoa, Mangini has preserved one of the inest traditions of Ligurian café culture since 1876. Mirrors, wood panelling and chandeliers retain the charm of a classic Italian café, once frequented by igures such as Gilber-

café-concert. Its rooms have welcomed leading figures of Italian culture, from Papini to Prezzolini, Soffici, Montale and Saba. This is a Florence far removed from the postcards: more nocturnal, intellectual, almost theatrical. In the heart of Rome’s historic centre, more precisely on Via del Babuino, Caffè Canova Tadolini still preserves the atmosphere of the former studio that Antonio Canova entrusted to his favourite pupil, Adamo Tadolini, in 1818. For four generations, until 1967, the art of sculpture was passed down within these walls. Today, marble and bronze sculptures, models and tools coexist in their evocative original disorder, offering a rare glimpse into two centuries of Italian sculpture, from Neoclassicism to the 20th century. In Naples, Gran Caffè Gambrinus is a theatre in its own right. Established in 1860, it has counted Oscar Wilde, Princess Sissi, Hemingway, Sartre, D’Annunzio, Matilde Serao and Benedetto Croce among its patrons. In December 2025, the long-awaited restoration of the rooms on Via Chiaia was completed, connecting them to the existing café. Amid Carrara marble floors, Art Nouveau frescoes, gilded stucco work and mirrors reflecting the Belle Époque, the undisputed star remains Neapolitan coffee: short, intense and meant to be savoured slowly, while outside, Piazza del Plebiscito continues its timeless performance. The final stop takes us to Sicily, to Giarre, where Fabbrica Finocchiaro reveals the island’s sweetest side. Founded in 1914 as a confectionery factory, the first of its kind in Southern Italy, it retains the Art Nouveau architecture of its original premises: arches, columns, frescoed ceilings and period furnishings. Here, the café, chocolate shop (offering no fewer than 32 different chocolate flavours) and confectionery traditions portray a Sicily far removed from clichés and closely connected to the most authentic idea of hospitality. An invisible thread connects these places: it is not simply coffee, but culture, conversation and pleasure. A steaming espresso cup in front of an antique mirror, a pastry resting on its saucer, someone sitting down beside you and asking, “Shall we have another coffee?” Perhaps this is where true Italian luxury begins: in allowing ourselves the time to enjoy it.

The city in the Langhe has received the title thanks to its proposal “Le fabbriche del vento” (“The Factories of the Wind”).

VENETO BEST IN TRAVEL UN 2027 DA PROTAGONISTA Dici Veneto e pensi a Venezia. THE RECOGNITION

VENETO NAMED A BEST IN TRAVEL DESTINATION FOR 2027 Say Veneto and you immediately think of Venice. But there is much more to discover. This is conirmed by the fact that Veneto is the only Italian region selected by Lonely Planet for its Best in Travel 2027, the annual selection highlighting destinations and experiences worth exploring in the year ahead. Major art cities, smaller towns, rural landscapes, mountains, vineyards, lagoons and waterways: together, they paint a picture of a remarkably diverse region where history, culture, nature, food and wine traditions, and local heritage coexist. It is also an invitation to venture beyond the usual tourist routes and best-known attractions to discover lesser-visited destinations. 22

ANATOMIADI, THE RADIOLOGICAL ANATOMY GAMES AT THE UNIVERSITY OF TRENTO

DECEMBER 15The AND 16 event returns with the same format as last year

Following the great success of its irst edition, Anatomiadi returns on December 15 and 16 with the same format that last year brought together around 150 radiology residents from 27 Italian universities. Conceived by the Radiology Residency Programme at the University of Trento, in collaboration with the Trento Medical Association and under the scientiic supervision of Professor Carlo Cosimo Quattrocchi, Dr Andrea Falzone and Dr Marinella Neri, the competition transformed the study of radiological anatomy into an engaging experience combining educational value, teamwork and friendly competition. From anatomy crosswords and identifying anatomical structures on X-ray, CT and MRI images to timed challenges, teams competed all the way to the grand inal, which saw the University of Palermo emerge victorious. But the most signiicant achievement was the enthusiasm of the participants and the exchange of knowledge among the different residency programmes, in an atmosphere of sportsmanship and good-natured fun. The extraordinary response in 2025 inspired the new edition, which promises to renew this original and educational event dedicated to the radiology specialists of tomorrow.

World News LO STUDIO

TIME FOR BREAKFAST, ACCORDING TO CHRONONUTRITION A study involving more than 31,000 American adults has linked eating the irst meal of the day between 7 and 8 a.m. to a lower risk of mortality compared with eating breakfast later. For those having their irst meal after midday, the association reaches a 29% higher risk of all-cause mortality and a 46% higher risk of cardiovascular mortality. But there is an important caveat! This does not establish a cause-andeffect relationship: the data are observational, and meal timing may relect sleep patterns, work schedules, health conditions and other behaviours. In short, chrononutrition points towards a promising avenue of research, rather than a proven recipe for living longer.

IN THE MILKY WAY

Palaeontologists have discovered fossilised teeth belonging to at least seven shark species that lived during the Late Cretaceous

THE DISCOVERY

SHARKS OF THE DESERT On the Abu-Tartur Plateau, now part of Egypt’s Western Desert, palaeontologists have discovered fossilised teeth belonging to at least seven shark species that lived during the Late Cretaceous, approximately 75 million years ago. The collection uncovered by the Egyptian research team is particularly rich and diverse: some species had long, pointed teeth, others had serrated teeth, while still others possessed curved fangs. Preserved in the phosphate deposits of the Duwi Formation, which form when marine productivity is particularly high, the fossils provide evidence of an ancient marine environment teeming with biodiversity. The concentration of teeth does not indicate that the sharks died simultaneously: their deposition may have taken place over extended periods of time.

A livello emozionale, è molto coinvolgente per me».

young woman who dreams of singing, a father who has already mapped out her future, and the songs of Umberto Tozzi giving voice to the desire to forge one’s own path. This is the story of Gloria the Musical, which, following its debut at Milan’s Teatro Arcimboldi, is now ready to captivate audiences across Italy with an extensive tour running until April 2027. Tozzi serves as musical director of the production, produced by GoldenStar AM, directed by Andrea Maia and Toni Fornari, and written in collaboration with Vincenzo Sinopoli. At the heart of the story is Gloria, a determined young woman who dreams of becoming a singer, while her father wants her to join the family business. To pursue her passion for music, she leaves behind her roots and a future that seems already set in stone. Love affairs, confrontations, setbacks and fresh starts shape an original story in which the songs themselves drive the narrative. The soundtrack spans Tozzi’s repertoire, from the hits co-written with Giancarlo Bigazzi to the songs created with Raf. At its heart is “Gloria”, released in 1979, which earned the singer-songwriter a Golden Globe and became a truly international hit, translated into no fewer than ten different languages. Bringing Gloria to life on stage is Valeria Mancini, alongside Nick Casciaro as Marco. They are joined by Gloria Miele, Elisa Marangon, Fabio Pappacena, Toni Fornari, Emanuela Fresi and Laura Ruocco, as well as an ensemble of dancers and performers. Choreography is by Laura Ruocco and Giulio Benvenuti, with orchestrations by Lapo Consortini. For Umberto Tozzi, seeing his songs brought to the theatre has “a wonderful effect. On an emotional level, it’s incredibly moving for me.” The search for the leading lady involved more than 650 auditions. “Finding the right person to embody Gloria was the most important thing for me. What immediately struck me about Valeria was her authenticity, personality and stage presence, as well as her voice. I believe she will become a major star,” says the singer-songwriter. The leading actress arrives at this debut following her move to Milan and an appearance as the opening act for a Laura Pausini concert in Rome. Being chosen from among so many “extremely talented and highly skilled” fellow performers is, for her, “a double source of pride.” There is also a curious family coincidence linking her to Tozzi: her grandfather used to tell the story of meeting the singer’s brother, who was serving in the military in their small mountain village. “The fact that Umberto then chose me for this role without knowing any of this feels like a twist of fate. Tozzi’s music has always been part of my family’s life.” A coming-of-age story set to the music of a repertoire that knows no boundaries. And it is precisely those boundaries that Umberto Tozzi hopes to cross with Gloria the Musical after its extensive Italian tour: “My hope is that this project will continue to bring my songs to life on stage... perhaps all the way to Broadway.” And with Gloria, anything is possible when you dare to dream!

very adoption begins with a meeting: the moment when a dog meets the right person. This is the spirit behind AdottaMI, the event created by Empethy in collaboration with AreaCani Milano, which transformed Parco Sempione into a vibrant space dedicated to responsible pet adoption on October 3 and 4. Over the course of two days, the event brought together around 3,000 visitors, 70 dogs looking for a loving home, and 12 animal welfare organisations, achieving a result that speaks volumes about the initiative’s impact: 143 adoption applications. AdottaMI brought the topic of adoption beyond the walls of animal shelters, making it more accessible through a fresh, positive and engaging approach. The dogs were introduced not simply by their age, size or appearance, but through their personalities, habits, needs and unique traits. Because adopting a dog is about more than love at irst sight: it means recognising genuine compatibility and responsibly building a relationship that will stand the test of time. Alongside the animal welfare organisations, content creators and personalities who helped share the animals’ stories, professionals, dog trainers and veterinarians guided visitors in inding the “perfect match”, offering valuable advice on building a happy, balanced and responsible life together. Italo chose to support AdottaMI, recognising its ability to turn awareness and participation into meaningful action. This commitment relects a broader vision centred on people, communities and the bonds that enrich everyday life.

VETERINARIAN FEDERICO COCCIA

ADOPTING A DOG IS A RESPONSIBLE CHOICE Adopting a dog is an act of love, but also a decision that requires awareness and responsibility. From a veterinarian’s perspective, it is essential to consider the time you can devote to the animal, your inancial resources and your ability to provide proper care throughout its life. A dog’s health is not simply the absence of disease: prevention, vaccinations, parasite protection, a balanced diet and regular veterinary check-ups are essential to its well-being. Assessing the dog’s age, temperament and medical condition is also important to ensure a smooth transition into family life. Adoption means making a long-term commitment, facing any challenges with patience and responsibility. A veterinarian can guide families through this journey, offering valuable advice to safeguard the health and well-being of their new lifelong companion. Animal welfare organisations and their volunteers also play a vital role, dedicating themselves every day to caring for animals and giving them a second chance.

LA STAGIONE DEL FOLIAGE A TARVISIO di Alessandro Fiorentini

L’AUTUNNO CAMBIA TUTTO.

AUTUMN COLOURS IN TARVISIO Exploring the forests of the Julian Alps, along enchanting trails and through the stories of the Valcanale valley. A journey of discovery through a region that reaches the height of its splendour at this time of year, when the leaves turn warm, rich shades of autumn AUTUMN CHANGES everything. The air, the colours, the scents, the flavours and the activities offered by a season that is often underestimated. And Italy once again proves to be a treasure trove of places waiting to be discovered. One of these is Tarvisio, nestled in the Julian Alps, which offers a different way to experience the mountains at this time of year. Forests changing colour, valleys and places steeped in local history: this is how the area reveals itself to visitors keen to explore the cultural heritage of Valcanale. Naturally, autumn foliage takes centre stage along every trail, starting with the easier routes, such as the Bobnia Trail or the path leading to Napoleon’s Linden Tree near Rutte Piccolo. Tarvisio also offers plenty of family-friendly activities, most notably the Gnomes’ Trail (Sentiero degli Gnomi / Bergmännchen) and Forest Hunt, a digital treasure hunt that takes children through the village and into the woods. The Lynx Trail (Sentiero della Lince), on the other hand, is a more challenging hiking route. It is here, deep in the forest – within Parco Cervi, surrounded by beech trees, firs, Scots pines and maples – that autumn reveals its most enchanting side.

Spectacular illuminated displays bring streets, squares and gardens to life, transporting residents and visitors into a magical world of enchanted forests and constellations, marine creatures, prehistoric

A visual narrative that blends contemporary art, tradition and innovation: all the installations – comprising dozens of kilometres of cables and millions of light bulbs – use energy-eficient LED technology and smart programming systems, in line with energy eficiency and environmental sustainability goals. The illuminated route stretches across much of the city, from the gardens of Villa Comunale to the medieval historic centre, from the elegant shopping boulevard of Corso Vittorio Emanuele to the long central avenues. Not to mention the two giant Christmas trees, in Piazza Sedile di Portanova and Piazza della Libertà. curtains of light will shine once again. Giorgio, the inest example of Baroque architecture in Salerno. Not to be missed is the fascinating Monumental Complex of San Pietro a Corte, a remarkable journey through history encompassing Roman baths, the eighth-century palace of Arechis II, the medieval Church of San Pietro and the eighteenth-century Chapel of Sant’Anna. Other attractions include the complex of the Church of the Addolorata and the Monastery of Santa Soia, now used as an exhibition space, and the Giardino della Minerva, the botanical garden of the renowned Salerno Medical School. Reopened in 2025 following a period of restoration and renovation, the garden offers guided tours along a route dedicated to the cultivation and preservation of medicinal herbs. Visitors can also explore the botanical varieties independently, take part in a workshop or stop by the herbal tea room to purchase or sample an infusion. To discover the new face of Salerno, however, visitors should head down towards the harbour and Piazza della Libertà, dominated by the large semicircular Crescent building. Designed by Catalan architect Ricardo Boill as part of a regeneration project for a neglected port area, the square is the centrepiece of the redevelopment of the city’s entire waterfront, connecting the sea with the historic centre, the marina and commercial port, and the seafront promenade. Nearby, on Molo Manfredi, the maritime terminal designed by Zaha Hadid is just one of the many projects by internationally renowned architects that have helped transform the city. The twenty-irst edition of Luci d’Artista will embrace Salerno in its entirety, from the hillside neighbourhoods to the more outlying districts, where over 30 illuminated lowers and branches will spring to life.

FLORENCE: GIOTTO ONCE AGAIN After a lengthy restoration, the Stories of Saint Francis in the Bardi Chapel in Santa Croce are once again on display in all their splendour. A masterpiece by Giotto, the cycle became a landmark for fourteenthcentury painting as a whole

I

t took four years of study and painstaking work, but today the wall paintings created by Giotto and his team of collaborating artists in the Bardi Chapel of the Basilica of Santa Croce can be admired by visitors from around the world as never before, bringing a successful conclusion to a long and complex conservation history. Probably commissioned in the early fourteenth century by Ridolfo de’ Bardi, a member of the powerful Florentine banking family, the chapel—located in the transept, the irst to the right of the choir—was decorated on its side walls

with six scenes covering approximately 180 square metres and depicting crucial episodes from the life of Saint Francis: the Renunciation of Worldly Goods, the Approval of the Rule, the Apparition at the Chapter of Arles, the Trial by Fire before the Sultan, the Death of Saint Francis, and the Apparition to Brother Augustine and Bishop Guido. These were complemented by the Stigmata painted above the entrance arch, igures of saints on the rear wall, and allegories of the Franciscan virtues on the vault. The entire decorative scheme is uniied by a monumental painted architectural framework that overlays the actual architecture of the chapel. At the beginning of the eighteenth century, the Stories of Saint Francis were concealed beneath several layers of whitewash. They were brought to light again in the mid-nineteenth century through the mechanical removal of the lime coating, a process that caused extensive abrasion. In keeping with the restoration principles of the time, the missing sections were then reconstructed and the surfaces visually uniied through the widespread application of a tempera patina. They remained in this condition until the middle of the twentieth century, when the overpainting was removed in an effort to recover what survived of the original decoration, leaving the many large and small losses in the plaster illed with a neutral tone. More than sixty years later, the new restoration project launched in 2022 addressed two major challenges: ensuring the conservation of the work and improving its legibility without erasing the traces of

50

its history. Promoted and carried out by the Opera di Santa Croce in collaboration with the Opiicio delle Pietre Dure, and supported by the Giving4Giotto campaign—which inspired the generosity of donors from around the world—the project was able to draw on the most advanced methods of analysis and conservation treatment. These made it possible to consolidate the most fragile areas, mitigate deterioration, remove altered materials, and replace many of the old ills with mixtures more compatible with the original plaster. The result of this immense undertaking is a far clearer appreciation of Giotto’s painting, revealing its vibrant richness, expressive intensity and revolutionary conception of pictorial space, as well as the technical and stylistic differences between the various other painters who, as is well known, worked alongside Giotto under his direction. The restoration also highlights the extent to which the Bardi Chapel served as an incubator for innovations that would inluence the development of painting over the following decades. The restoration has respected the original layout of the spaces, allowing history, rather than geometry, to shape each room. All feature windows overlooking both the inner courtyard garden and the surrounding landscape. The spaces themselves take centre stage: the courtyard, transformed into an elegant garden; the Boot Room, where fresh flower arrangements are created to decorate the bedrooms and lounges; the Palm Court, ideal for enjoying a cup of tea or reading a book; the Old Kitchen, now a peaceful space adjoining the restaurant; and the swimming pool and bathhouse, where guests can unwind in a softly lit, truly exceptional setting. The culinary experience extends throughout the estate, encompassing organic vegetable gardens, two restaurants (at the Castello and the Stables) and three bars. The estate is also distinguished by its hidden spaces, where guests can discover unexpected delights and experience absolute tranquillity: the Dovecotes, concealed among the bastions and illuminated solely by candlelight; the lakeside cabin; the poolside tent; and picnics arranged in the estate’s wildest, most secluded corners.

ovunque: nel restauro attento e fatto da maestranze sapienti, come quelle che hanno realizzato arredi su misura per ciascun appartamento per esempio, potendo trascorrere uno o più giorni immersi nello scintillio del Grande Gatsby o nelle ambientazioni del Giro del Mondo in 80 giorni o di Alice nel Paese delle Meraviglie;

Owner Barbara Franco and her partner purchased it in 2016 from the last heirs of the Fauzone family. After years without proper maintenance, the building was in a seriously deteriorated condition, yet this did not discourage the new owners. Recognising its great potential and captivated by its powerful charm, they embarked on an extensive programme of conservation, restoration and renovation, which is still ongoing and has been undertaken with “a strong sense of responsibility”. The irst opening came in 2022: “Today we have six rooms and seven apartments. Another three, which we call suites or super suites depending on their level, will open between the end of 2026 and spring 2027.” The Relais has several distinctive features, as the owner - also a writer and founder of the Quid+ publishing house - explains: “Guests appreciate the charm of a historic residence restored according to the principles of traditional philological conservation, while offering contemporary functionality. They love the feeling of stepping into a fairy tale, both because of the books - we host the publishing team here, and the ofices can be visited - and because every room is dedicated to the world of fantasy, with themes inspired by great classics. They also appreciate the slow-tourism experience we offer.” Added to this is “a warm, homely welcome, where we want to feel like friends guests can return to, with opportunities to network over a chat or a tour of the Palazzo”. At Palazzo Fauzone, nothing is left to chance and attention to detail is evident everywhere: in the meticulous restoration carried out by skilled craftspeople, including those who created bespoke furnishings for each apartment, allowing guests to spend one or more days immersed in the glittering world of The Great Gatsby or in settings inspired by Around the World in Eighty Days or Alice in Wonderland; and at breakfast, served in a spacious frescoed room that has been carefully restored, where guests can enjoy local produce from small farms. The spa inspired by the Divine Comedy is the ultimate indulgence at Palazzo Fauzone: a “unique, intimate and rejuvenating retreat” and, as Barbara Franco puts it, a “bubble” of privacy from which to set out and discover the most hidden, unexpected and less crowded corners of the Langhe.

Piazza Duomo 40, Amalfi (SA) Tel. 089 871065 pasticceriapansa.it

THE SWEETNESS OF THE AMALFI COAST Since 1830, when Andrea Pansa opened his shop in the heart of Amali, this pastry shop has been an integral part of the town’s history. Today, after ive generations and almost two centuries in business, it retains the charm of its 19th-century interiors and a deeply rooted artisanal tradition closely connected to the Amali Coast. Yet it is through its pastries that the region inds its most delicious expression. Amali lemons, also grown on the family’s Villa Paradiso estate, take centre stage in creations that blend heritage and creativity: from the famous candied lemon peels, a true house speciality, to the soft, fragrant Delizia al Limone and Zagara Divina, a tribute to the poetry of Salvatore Quasimodo. Another symbol of local tradition is the Santarosa, a type of sfogliatella irst created in the Santa Rosa convent in Conca dei Marini, which has become one of the Amali Coast’s most iconic pastries. The Pastiera, renamed “del Presidente” following a visit by Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, relects the area’s connection to Campania’s Easter traditions. The selection also includes leavened pastries, festive specialities, chocolate and gelato, all made with a commitment to sourcing the inest ingredients: from Bronte PDO pistachios to Giffoni PGI hazelnuts and carefully selected cocoa varieties used in Andrea Pansa’s chocolate. A pastry shop that captures the authentic lavours of its homeland in every bite.

Via Salvo D’Acquisto 69, Aversa (CE) ilovetartare.it WHERE THE SEA MEETS LA DOLCE VITA Inspired by the Dolce Vita of the 1960s, I Love Tartare doubles its presence in Aversa with the opening of a contemporary Fish Bar, featuring a large counter and an outdoor terrace with a beach-style bar dedicated to aperitifs. At the heart of the menu are ish tartares served in the signature tin on ice, from bluein tuna with panzanella to amberjack with gazpacho. The selection also includes sushi, Spanish bocadillos, Portuguese-style salt cod, ish and chips, and dishes prepared on a Japanese robata grill. Classic cocktails such as the Negroni and, of course, the Campari Spritz complete the experience.

Via Maqueda 459, Palermo; Via Etnea 18, Catania; Corso Umberto 46, Taormina (CT); Via Giacomo Matteotti 39, Ortigia (SR); Via Marzamemi 61, Marzameni (SR); Piazza Malta 11, Marina di Ragusa (RG); Corso Mediterraneo 11, Marina di Modica (RG); Viale delle Americhe 52, Ragusa AUTHENTIC SICILIAN GELATO Founded in Modica in 1960 as an ice cream cone factory, Don Peppinu has upheld its distinctive vision of “Gelato Verace di Origine Siciliana” – authentic Sicilian gelato – for three generations. Here, gelato is freshly churned every day in each shop, using carefully selected ingredients, some of which are processed in Modica. Pistachios, almonds, Modica PGI chocolate, wild strawberries from Mount Etna and Sicilian citrus fruits take centre stage in lavours such as Brontessa, Liccumìa and Setteemezzo. The philosophy is to bring out the true character of each ingredient, carefully balancing sweetness and creaminess without compromising its identity.

THE ART OF SHARING Located within Turin’s Nuvola Lavazza complex, Condividere was born from a collaborative vision that brings together gastronomy, design and conviviality. The setting itself relects this ambition: designed by Academy Award-winning Dante Ferretti, the interiors play with shapes, gears, comic-inspired decorations, metallic lacework and Baroque inluences, creating an atmosphere that is both elegant and informal. In the kitchen, chef Federico Zanasi translates the concept of sharing into a culinary journey rooted in Italian and Mediterranean gastronomic traditions, balancing heritage with invention. The menu features traditional recipes reinterpreted with creativity and precision, often presented as tapas: small dishes designed to be placed at the centre of the table, turning the meal into a shared experience. The true signature dish, however, remains Gnocco Burro e Oro, prepared with tomato extraction, kuzu, butter and Parmigiano Reggiano. It perfectly embodies the creativity of the chef, who earned a Michelin star in 2019. The gastronomic journey alternates savoury and sweet lavours, leading guests to a dedicated dessert area before concluding with speciality coffees from 1895 Coffee Designers by Lavazza, where technology and craftsmanship explore the many nuances of coffee culture. An experience that transforms ine dining from a formal ritual into an invitation to come together, discover and share.

MINNESOTA: TRA LAGHI, FORESTE E CIELI STELLATI

Via Roma 15, Serralunga d’Alba (CN) tenutacucco.it

A BAROLO IN A JACKET, BUT WITHOUT A TIE From the Rossi Cairo family comes a young, vibrant Barolo whose freshness still preserves the distinctive elegance of Nebbiolo tannins from the Langhe. In the heart of autumn, the Langhe retain an irresistible charm. This glass is like a Gothic novel, dark yet luminous at the same time. Pair it with slow-braised Piedmontese Fassona beef: its energy deies all the rules.

LO SAPEVATE CHE... DO YOU KNOW?

RED WINE SHOULD BE SERVED COOL Serving temperature is essential: red wines should be served at no more than 14–16°C, debunking the myth that red wine should be enjoyed at room temperature.

Località San Lorenzo Alto 131, Suvereto (LI) petrawine.it

INSIDE AN ARCHITECTURAL MASTERPIECE IN SUVERETO There is something cinematic about this corner of Tuscany, in Suvereto, where the Moretti family, whose winemaking heritage began with Bellavista in Franciacorta and has passed from father Vittorio to daughter Francesca, set out to transform their passion for the land into an all-encompassing work of art. Imposing and theatrical, with a staircase reaching towards the sky, the Petra winery, designed by Mario Botta, is a sculpture of stone and light that disappears into the hillside. This red is far more than a blend of Cabernet and Merlot: it is a landscape in liquid form, telling stories of windswept hills and vineyards cultivated just a few kilometres from the sea. Petra IGT Toscana Rosso captures the essence of Mediterranean scrubland and woodland after a summer thunderstorm, the warmth of sun-baked earth, and the promise of a wine with an unmistakable identity, destined to be remembered. Enjoy it at night, with a vinyl record spinning, the lights turned low, and a bowl of trufle popcorn to nibble on. Or pair it with a crispy taco illed with spiced pulled pork. This is luxury at its most effortless, the thrill of an unexpected encounter between the Tuscan coast and your desire to surprise. A testament to how an untamed terroir can be shaped and transformed into pure winemaking elegance.

Bono and his bandmates are back to teach another lesson in rock: following a live performance at their former Dublin high school, they are ready to amaze audiences once again with a new album, Carnaval De Luz, and a worldwide stadium tour

FIFTY YEARS OF MUSIC AND STILL EAGER TO SURPRISE. U2 return with Carnaval De Luz (out November 13), their first album of original material in nine years: twelve tracks produced by Jacknife Lee, exploring spirituality, friendship and freedom. Leading the way is the single “The Greatest Show On Earth”, co-written with Brian Eno and accompanied by an Anton Corbijn video that playfully explores the mythology surrounding the Irish band. The song also lends its title to their upcoming tour. But before hitting the stadiums, it was back to school: on September 25, Bono and his bandmates celebrated half a century of music at Dublin’s Mount Temple, the high school where it all began 50 years ago, when Larry Mullen posted a notice looking for musicians. Seven songs, ecstatic students and a performance of “One” accompanied by young string players: an unforgettable lesson in rock. And from 2027, the schoolyard gives way to the world stage. The tour kicks off on February 23 in Mexico City, followed by São Paulo and Buenos Aires, while European and North American dates have yet to be announced. From classrooms to stadiums, U2’s message remains the same: rock is back to teach us all a lesson!

THE RELEASE DATE U2’s new album of original material, their first in nine years, arrives on November 13.

THE BELOVED SOROGOYEN, THE SPANISH MASTER, RETURNS Rodrigo Sorogoyen is one of the most compelling filmmakers in contemporary European cinema, a director capable of turning conflict into cinematic tension while examining power and its impact on human relationships. His distinctive vision runs through the feverish crime thriller May God Save Us, the political corruption of The Realm, the lingering grief of Mother and the rural violence of The Beasts, where a dispute between neighbours escalates into a tragedy about the rejection of the other. This consistently daring and unsettling body of work enters new territory with L’essere amato (El ser querido), opening in Italian cinemas on November 12, distributed by Movies Inspired. Javier Bardem plays Esteban Martínez, an acclaimed filmmaker and absentee father who offers his daughter Emilia, an actress played by Victoria Luengo, a role in his latest film. The set becomes a place where old resentments and the wounds of abandonment resurface. Co-written with Isabel Peña, the film intertwines family and cinema to explore the hierarchies of affection and the human cost of talent.

POSSIBLE LOVE FROM VENICE TO NETFLIX Eight years after Burning, Lee Chang-dong returns with Possible Love, coming to Netflix. A writer who moves and enlightens readers, blessed with the rare gift of capturing the essence of love through her words. A gift she generously shares with her audience.

Rizzoli

C’

Universal

“AMATEUR”: LONDON INSPIRES THE SINGER-SONGWRITER’S TENTH ALBUM A new chapter for the Bologna-born singer-songwriter, who returns to London for his latest studio project, released on October 23. Titled Amateur, Cremonini’s tenth album of original material features eleven tracks recorded at Studio 13 in London, three months after the end of his extensive summer tour, the biggest of his career. At the heart of the album are live instrumentation and the interplay between different musical styles, driven by a desire to challenge the rules established over twenty-seven years of artistic evolution. Joining him on this new journey is Salmo, who features on the title track and shared the London recording sessions with him. “He became my Virgil,” Cremonini reveals. The album also features collaborations with Fabri Fibra, who contributes a verse to “Paparazzi”, and Malika Ayane, who lends her voice to “Cose molto piccole”. Three guest artists from three different musical worlds, all of whom also took part in the October 20 concert at London’s O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire, where Amateur received its live debut.

AIRPLANE MODE

AIRPLANE MODE A triumphant comeback for the British artist, who continues to surprise audiences: “At some point I had lost my way, but I found myself again in a recording studio in Banbury.” Airplane Mode features the lead single “Tastes Like Summer” and eleven other musical stories, including the second single, “Weight Of It All”, a moving reflection on the pressures of modern life. The album also includes the epic “Circles”, destined to become a Blunt classic, the infectious groove of “Oh Daisy” and the raw emotion of “Modern Love”.

A GRAND COMEBACK The North Flag returns with a new design, GMT functionality and Master Chronometer certification.
