This is the tenth in a series of articles highlighting spe cia l volu nteers who help to make the Landings such a wonderful community. The Eagle interviewed Amy Drachman for this issue. Lawyer, single mom, and volunteer are just a few of the adjectives that describe Amy Drachman. Originally from Boston, where she grew up, had a family, and spent her professional life, Amy found a niche for herself as an employment attorney helping technology startup businesses and nonprofit organizations. She worked as in-house counsel for a medical device company and then had her own consulting firm specializing in Human Resource Pol ic y a nd Compl ia nce. She accomplished all of this during her last ten yea rs i n Boston, as a single parent. She did her u nde rg rad work at Ba r n a rd College and her law degree at New York Un iversit y w it h a specialty in employment law. She and her family had been visiting a timeshare on Longboat Key since the mid 80’s before she decided, upon retirement, to purchase a home in Sarasota. In 2015, she purchased a home in the city and her mom followed, p u r c h a s i n g a pl a c e i n T h e Landings. By 2020 she and her twin sons Ari and Joel (now 17 and students at Sarasota High), moved to a house in The Landings joining her mom. T he la nds capi ng , u n ique

curved roads, variety of homes and sense of “community” drew her to The Landings. It didn’t take long for her to get involved with LMA. Recruited by Sue Camins, Amy was asked to joi n the LMA Gover nance Committee. Her main activity on t h e com m it t e e h a s b e e n to review the LMA rules and reg u lat ion s a nd bylaws. She will be co-chairing the LMA Nom inating Com m ittee with John Schmidt. In addition, Amy serves on the LMA Security and Finance Committees. She has also been asked to review contracts between LMA and the companies working on the roads project. I n her spa re t i me, A my volunteers with Legal Aid of Manasota, and sits on the board of Temple Sinai, where she is financial secretary and reviews appl ica nt s for s c hola rsh ip assistance. She enjoys water yoga, g a r de n i n g , t r y i n g o ut n e w restaurants and is moving up the ladder playing competitive bridge. This month she will be in Chicago competing in a major bridge tournament with the intent of achieving enough points for her Life Master Designation.
