Shebeen Irish Pub celebrates ‘Halfway to St. Paddy’s Day’ By Hannah Wallace

don’t think you’ll find too many Sept. 17 events in Dublin,” said Eileen Carrigan with a laugh. Still, the owner of Shebeen Irish Pub on Midnight Pass Road will once again be celebrating “Halfway to St. Paddy’s Day” this month, in honor of the very American passion for all things Irish-ish. The event, which runs from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 17, will feature live Irish music, Celtic dancers and bagpipes. Revelers can enjoy $6 Guinness pints and specials on Shebeen’s menu of traditional Irish American fare like fish and chips, hot
pretzels and beer cheese, and corned beef and cabbage. Carrigan is quick to thank her clientele for the restaurant’s continued success since she took over operations in 2022 from the founders, who were true Irish natives. She’s especially grateful to the year-round Sarasotans who keep showing up in August and September. Though Siesta Key is known as a tourist hotspot, Shebeen, like many Sarasota businesses, counts on local patrons, especially in the summertime. “There are only so many of them, so we rely on repeat business,” she said. “We’ve been successful because
people keep coming through the door. It’s a blessing.” At the same time, Carrigan does her best to support local music acts during the slower summer months—primarily Celtic and folk musicians, of course. “We do occasionally bring someone in who’s maybe more American country or classic rock,” she added. “Of course, there’s a lot of Celtic roots in American country.” Even with a loyal local following, summertime can feel like “the zombie apocalypse” for Siesta businesses, Carrigan said. Parlor Doughnuts brings layers and layers of family vibes

arlor Doughnuts is a room where you have conversation,” said Jordan Khan. “I love that idea. That’s what we need now as people. A place you can just sit down and talk. Like when you remember sitting on your grandmother’s porch talking with your cousins.” True to that family tone, Khan is part of a seven-person team

Their latest shop opened at the Siesta Center in the Village last May. “When it came to coming into business together, it felt like a nobrainer,” said Khan. “Something for us to do as a family.” Parlor Doughnuts, “a craft doughnut and coffee shop,” first
launched in 2019 in Indiana. The concept centers on the centuriesold tradition of home parlors, or well-furnished rooms where families gathered to talk. Rather than the commonplace yeast or cake donuts, Parlor serves layered pastry confections (like the “Cronut” but without the trademark). The menu also includes a range of coffee drinks.
