• 6.5 million people are internally displaced in Syria • 4000 schools have been destroyed (UNICEF, December 2013) • By the end of 2013, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights had recorded 130,433 casualties - at least one-third of whom were civilians (Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, Press release, 1 January 2014)

Turkey:

The increasing number of refugees has put further pressure on Turkey and the international community to help those in camps to register with the UNHCR (UNHCR Website)

Jordan:

Syrians now make up one third of the

population of Jordan – impacting the Jordanian economy and infrastructure.

Lebanon: Thousands of Syrian refugees struggle in makeshift camps, in shelters made of little more than plastic sheeting nailed to wooden frames.

Iraq: Kurdistan Regional Government hosts 98 per cent of Iraq’s Syrian refugees. This puts additional

strain on the local infrastructure and essential services, which are already weakened by years of war and instability in Iraq (UNHCR Website)
