Summary These workshops address the significant waste caused by the tendency to constantly purchase new items rather than repair or revitalise what we already own. DIY and recycling activities range from sewing and decorating worn clothing to give it new life, to repurposing old sports equipment into functional items, furniture, art, or anything else inspired by your creativity.
Description Participants are welcome to bring their own items, or various discarded materials can be gathered. These do not need to be broken, just no longer in use. The group will explore the items and create space to brainstorm ways to give them new life. Building, decorating, or redecorating will follow, based on the ideas generated. Throughout, there will be opportunities to reflect on how everyday items, often tucked away or considered for disposal, can be repurposed to create new value for oneself or others.
Objectives An open, inspiring framework can spark curiosity and encourage a rethink of discarded items. Passionate role models with relevant skills also provide valuable inspiration for participants.
Challenges The open framework offers great potential but can present challenges, such as limited materials, outdated resources, or participants feeling lost. DIY and recycling rely on recognising opportunities. Without a clear sense of creative freedom, engagement may decline. A lack of tools or supplies can also be a hurdle, but once participants recognise reuse possibilities, meaningful progress begins.
Impact Weekly DIY and recycling workshops are offered at GAME House Viborg. Additionally, both pop-up events focused on DIY and recycling, as well as larger themed events, have been hosted. Recently, a DIY and recycling workshop was held as part of the Playmaker Camp.
