ABOUT.

I’m Isabella, a driven emerging designer with a passion for crafting spatial narratives informed by human experience

To me, design is more than aesthetics and function. It is the art of storytelling through space, the subconscious connection between an environment, people and emotion, embedded through materiality, light, and form. My academic journey has become a platform to challenge convention, to craft spaces that evoke feeling, and to question what design can be, not just what it has been.

INTERSECTIONS OF PRESENCE

Term: 2025 / Semester 5

Course: INTD-3000

Location: Barcelona, Spain

Typology: Restaurant

Size: 5,530 sqft

Software: Revit, Twinmotion, Adobe Photoshop, Procreate

Madunia located in Barcelona will be conceived as a space where form, light, and volume intersect to create a culturally experiential dining atmosphere, extracting elements from Barcelona’s Eixample District’s geometry and spirit. The restaurant further integrates the concept of “Sombras y Sol,” a Spanish notion reflecting the city streets’ interplay of light and shadow that shapes spatial experience.

This is curated within the design through engaging and illuminated paths directing guests to moments of emphasis that become social intersections. Where the overarching mezzanine glows like Barcelona’s coastline, bathing the oriented spaces below in light. The curated journey distills order and liveliness while offering an elevated fine dining experience of Barcelona’s spirit. It translates the districts essence of community, cultural expression, light, and human-centered design: where light and shadow shape movement, drawing all guests and staff, regardless of their route, into shared moments of intersection.

Material Selections

The interior material palette was curated to reflect the layered character of Barcelona and enhance the Spanish culinary experience. Light-toned plaster and honed stone contrast warm brown brick, rich colours, and patterned elements, echoing the city’s diverse architectural fabric. Luxury stones, refined wood tones, and light-responsive finishes establish an elevated hospitality atmosphere. Materiality shifts across the restaurant to choreograph distinct spatial moods: moody and Spain-forward on the main floor, lighter, more patterned and luminous on the mezzanine, while the patio unifies the Madunia brand and Barcelona through organic, fluid materiality, bold patterning, and rich, sun-warmed colour.

RHYTHM OF LIGHT

Term: 2023 / Semester 3

Course: INTD-2000

Location: Humber Polytechnic

Typology: Healthcare/Dental

Size: 4,198 sqft

Software: Revit, AutoCAD, Enscape, Procreate

Dental office design orchestrates sequences of rhythm, echoing the natural cadence of sunlight as it filters through and illuminates elements of nature. This is manifested within the clinic’s design through various lighting effects curating the calming illumination of daylight in a natural environment as well as a coordinated but organic flow of architectural planes. Holistically promoting wellness, elevating movement and way finding, and creating a supportive dental experience for all patients, staff and guests.

Conceptual Elevation

Guided by the desire to capture the impact of sunlight ration of how light and form shape space. Through sketching filtered, softened, and directed, while also translating these to evoke the soothing feeling of basking in sunlight, while patients intuitively.

Blue lowers cognitive load, fostering calm, focus, and perceived spatial openness through associations with natural horizons and circadian regulation.

Yellow stimulates optimism and mental alertness by increasing perceived warmth and activating dopaminergic responses linked to daylight exposure.

Light neutral tones enhance visual comfort and wayfinding by maximizing diffuse light reflectance, reducing sensory fatigue, and supporting cognitive clarity.

Medium neutral tones ground the visual field, fostering emotional stability through calm, moderated contrast while allowing the space to shift effortlessly between social, functional, and atmospheric states
