The beginning of my journey into the fashion industry!

I’ve always had a passion for fashion and putting outfits together, which led me to study Fashion Communication and Marketing at university. When I first joined Studio 204, I already had an interest in styling, but over the past year my love for it has grown even more. I’ve particularly enjoyed working on shoots, both styling and directing, which has been a big focus in my recent projects. For my placement, I want to continue in this direction and gain insight into what it’s like working behind the scenes at a fashion brand.

DIGITAL CV

I created my digital CV in Premiere Pro, starting with an introduction slide about me. I included videos showcasing my work, along with behind-the-scenes clips from my favorite moments in projects, such as being on shoots and styling. To highlight my skills and experience, I added text overlays on the videos. I also chose upbeat, strong music to reflect my personality. The text was styled in bold pink, which represents me which is girly yet confident and bold.

I also included my Instagram profiles: my university page, where I share all of my projects, and behindthe-scenes content, as well as my personal styling page, where I post styling ideas and outfit inspo.

Contacting brands!

I also tried Sisters and seekers but they did not have a stylist role, it was more the PR and events side of things.

The first places I thought of when reaching out to company was Adanola and because I love the brand and is somewhere that I would love to work at in the future, I tried so much to get in contact with them but it was so hard to get and actual contact email.

Dream brands I would love to work with

Reaching out to more smaller brands that are liverpool based through instagram DM

The activewear brand Redrun got back to me! I am so happy

After emailing with them they wanted to meet up with me for a chat in a coffee shop by their offices.

Before the meeting I looked through their

Before the meeting I created some moodboards to show that I get the vibe and style of the brand

I also created some styling boards of how I would style their latest collection for a shoot

Brand style:

-Sport street style -Trend-led streetwear

-Effortlessly styled -Retro vibes

The meeting went really well, I met the brand manager and social media executive we spoke about the course and what I am passionate about. They said they are happy for me to help with styling and be apart of their shoot days which I am so excited for. Redrun is a brand that I have followed and loved for years, they have really grown over the years, bringing out new collections and now also being in JD.

RESEARCH INTO BLOG AND VLOG JOURNAL LAYOUTS

CATHERINE WISE DIGITAL SKILLS

Today we selected colours from an image on Photoshop and added them to a library. We used a website called coolors.co to test whether the colours worked well together and ensured the text was easy to read. I noticed that none of my chosen colours paired well, but I liked how the site shows a preview of how it will look, which saved a lot of time. I plan to use this app more to check colour contrast and make sure text is always clear and readable.

We also learnt how to apply different effects to text and images to improve the page layout and make it look more professional on Indesign. Here i had a play around with different effects on some images of outfits i have styled in previous projects.

I used effects like:

• Feathering tool

• Transparency tool

• Cutting an image out from the background

• Using placeholder text

• Background colours

• Dropping shadow on images

• Pen tool

First 2 weekly vlogs

Week 1 - Reel, edited on instagram

For my first week I took lots of videos of what I got up to on my first day, I then edited them together on instagram to create a reel. I like using reels as I think it is easy to cut and edit the videos, add text and trending sounds.

For my second week I vlogged my whole day by taking a picture of everything I did starting from when I woke up and got ready and when I got home. I added text to each pic on instagram and chose my text font and colour. Then I posted the images as a swiping instagram post.

Week 2 - slide show instagram post, edited on instagram

PHOTOSHOP TASK

This week’s task was to retouch an image in Photoshop using the effects we learned during the lecture, then place the edited images into an InDesign document, using effects from last week’s lesson, and show the tools we used, along with the process that led to the final retouched image. I really enjoyed learning these Photoshop effects because I often use the app to create mood boards, and now that I know how to use these effects, I’ll be able to enhance both my mood boards and images.
