20 Words
These are 20 words that stood out to me or relate to the breif:
• Fast Fashion
• Social media
• Alpha
• Cultural
• AI
• Adolesence
• Trends
• Influences
• Sustainability
• Technology
• Future
• Media
• Imagination
• Brands
• Digital
• Storytelling
• Media
• Gaming
• Reels
• Personalization
From these 20 words I picked out 10 that stood out to me the most and created a mood board of 20 images for each word. I think that my moodboards show a more indepth visual of each word, I created them using photoshop.
Initial ideas from 20 X 20:
- Research into fast fashion brands
- How do brands keep up with trends
- Who are the influences to Gen A?
- Environmental impact of fashion
- Sustainable brands
- Virtual fashion
- Artificial intelligence
- Interview my Gen A little cousins
From my 20 X 20, the moodboard that stood out to me and interested me the most was the sustainability moodboard. I want to zoom more into sustainability as I think this is a big part of fashion in the future, and a big trend for Generation Alpha, therefore this may be an option to incorporate in my final message.
I also think that vinted is very popular at the minute and is the way forward for sustainable fashion, I was very inspired by the vinted logo which is ‘Less waste, more style’ which I want to explore further because I love styling and I think I could use it in my final message.
An idea I had was buying less but finding a away to style more. For example styling 1 clothing item many different ways.

Starting from my 20x20, I explored each word in more depth, beginning with Gen Alpha. I have two younger cousins who are part of this generation, so they provided a useful point of reference. I compared how they are growing up to my own experience as part of Gen Z. While I noticed some similarities, there are also quite a few differences. I also observed how parenting styles vary, my auntie, a millennial, has different rules for them compared to the ones my mum had for me, especially regarding social media and online safety. She’s much more aware of what they’re exposed to online and doesn’t want them to have social media accounts until they’re in Year 9.

I explored Generation Alpha in more detail by looking into their interests, behaviors, fashion choices, purchasing power, social media habits, and gaming trends. I think Gen Alpha is growing up in a completely digital world, which makes them more familiar with tech from a young age. They have a strong influence on trends and buying decisions, even though they’re still quite young. Their exposure to online content, influencers, and gaming shapes their preferences and personalities in ways that are very different from previous generations. In my opinion, Gen Alpha is confident, creative, and highly connected, but this also means it’s important for them to be guided carefully, especially when it comes to social media and screen time.
A new way that brands are marketing to Generation Alpha is through gaming, eg Roblox. Gen A love personalizing and creating their own characters. I have created my own Roblox character and croquis of me: I created my Roblox character on chat GPT by sending it an image of me and telling it to add accessories. I created my croquis on photoshop.

Trending hashtags on my instagram feed:

Next, I wanted to explore the impact of fast fashion brands on the environment. I started by researching Shein, as I was curious about how such a massive company, with thousands of cheap products constantly being added to its website affects the planet. I also looked into Edikted, a smaller fast fashion brand that frequently appears on my Instagram feed. Additionally, I looked into Revolve, which markets itself as a more luxury brand, but still has a significant environmental impact. In my opinion, while these brands make fashion more affordable and accessible, they contribute heavily to overconsumption and waste. New coming trends encourage a disposable attitude toward clothing, which is harmful to both the environment and the long-term mindset around sustainable fashion.
After looking into fast fashion, I wanted to explore which brands are addressing environmental issues and promoting sustainability. I began by researching sustainable practices and came across Vinted as a great example. Personally, I really like Vinted, I regularly use it to sell clothes I no longer wear, and I’ve also bought several items through the app. I believe platforms like this are the way forward, as they help reduce waste and encourage people to give clothes a second life instead of throwing them away.
I also researchedhow these brands use influencer marketing to boost their visibility and sales. For example, they rely on hauls, sponsored content, and influencer trips to create hype around their products. While this strategy is effective in driving consumer interest and purchases, it also contributes to increased consumption and waste, further harming the environment.

As I mentioned at the beginning, I’m considering incorporating sustainability into my final message, as it’s an important and growing trend among Gen Alpha. I want to highlight this by showing how a single piece of clothing can be styled in multiple ways, inspired by Vinted’s campaign slogan. My message is: “Buy less, find more ways to style.” To bring this idea to life, I plan to create my own video as part of my research, demonstrating how one item can be worn in a variety of different ways.
While researching retro-futurism fashion, I found the whole aesthetic really fascinating. I love the use of bright colors, metallics, and bold shapes, it’s all so eye-catching. I think this style would especially appeal to Gen Alpha because of its vibrant visuals and futuristic feel. One of the retro-futuristic films I looked at was Clueless, which I’ve seen before and loved. The scene where Cher uses her computer to choose an outfit from her digital wardrobe stood out to me. I think Gen Alpha would love this concept, as they’re very tech-savvy and often interested in anything that makes their lives easier, including having technology help them decide what to wear.
This idea could work really well in my message video, as it ties into the future and reflects how fashion and technology are merging. There are already apps like Whering that offer a similar experience to the Clueless wardrobe. I actually use Whering for my styling Instagram account, it lets you upload your clothes, create outfits, and even has a feature that randomly selects an outfit for you. It’s a fun, practical tool that I think captures the kind of futuristic fashion experience Gen Alpha would be excited about.

This is a croquis I created on photoshop on retro futurism using pictures I found on pinterest. I love all the bright, virbrant colours and retro futurism objects.
Interview questions to ask my Gen A little cousins:

• What do you play on?
• Do you like customizing your avatar? why?
• What do they wear? does it reflect your own style?
• Have you ever seen a brand in a game?
I really enjoyed hearing their responses to my questions—it was fascinating to learn about their thoughts on the future and fashion. I also liked hearing about the games they play. However, I think they were a bit young for the questions I asked. It was still interesting to see how younger members of Gen Alpha responded, but next time, I’d like to ask these questions to an older Gen Alpha to compare their answers.

Going forward
To develop on my research, I plan to incorporate more visuals and create dedicated moodboards for each subject I have explored. This will help communicate my ideas more effectively and provide a stronger visual direction. I also intend to further develop the concepts I’ve been considering for my final message, particularly by diving deeper into related research. I really like the direction this is heading, I’m especially excited about focusing on sustainability and retrofuturism, as I think the combination offers a compelling contrast between past visions of the future and today’s urgent environmental challenges. It feels like a fresh and meaningful way to engage the Gen A audience.
I also did an interview with an older Gen Alpha as I wanted to see his answers compared to my little cousins. I interviewed my step brother Joe who is 13. His answers were quite different, however he also didn’t know what fast fashion is which shows Gen A need more knowledge on this.

Component 2
Looking at different millenial influences:

These influences work with many fashion brands to create authentic content to reach wider audiences for the brands. They mainly engage with their audiences through Instagram and Tiktok.
From this I looked more into nano and micro influences on Tik Tok as they are more relatable and authentic to Gen A especially Gen Z influences. This is the type of content that Gen Alpha like as it is relatable and authentic. For example:
• Day in the life’s
• Clothing hauls
• Shopping hauls
• Beauty protducts
• Unboxings
• What I eat in a day
• Get dressed with me
• Outfit of the day

I created a mood board focused on Gen Z, as they are the primary influencers and role models for Gen Alpha. Gen Alpha often looks up to Gen Z for inspiration in areas such as fashion, technology, language, and lifestyle. Because of this strong influence, I’m considering featuring a Gen Z individual as the influencer in my video. Choosing someone from this
I am thinking of choosing one of my friends to be the influencer:

For Component 2, I have added many more mood boards and visuals, which I think have elevated the overall quality of my work. These additions help to communicate my ideas more clearly while also enhancing the visual appeal of my project.
As part of my research on fast fashion, I also created a video of what the real costs of fast fashion are using premier pro to edit. I went into town with my friend and we went to some of the fast fashion shops like Zara and H&M, we looked at the prices of the clothes and the type of people that were shopping there. Then the video mood changes of the reality costs of fast fashion, eg the environmental and social impacts that it has.

The pink tones portray a femininity and the girly shopping aestetic. The blue tones portray how the mood switches to a sad and emotional feel.

From Component 1, I became interested in exploring digital wardrobes across different platforms such as apps, films, and websites. I came across an app called DressX, which uses AI to digitally dress people, a concept I found really intriguing. I also looked into films that feature exciting or magical wardrobes. One scene that particularly inspired me was from the Barbie movie, where her outfit is automatically selected and magically appears on her, followed by her next outfit. This led me to research more into digital fashion, which I found really inspiring. I’m now considering using this concept and narrative as the basis for my final video.

The message
“The Future of Fashion - Digital, Sustainable, Customizable”
I explored a variety of options for what my final message could be, but ultimately decided on this one, as it best represents the core theme of my video and reflects my vision of what fashion will look like in the future. I think my video message will create excitement for Gen Alpha for what fashion is going to be like for them in the future.

The colour palette of my video is going to consist of bright, neon and metallic colours, I decided on this because I think these colours will appeal to Gen Alpha and give it the futuristic feel that I want.
Initially, I planned for my video to be in the format of an Instagram Reel. However, I’ve decided that TikTok is a more suitable platform for my target audience, as it’s the app they are most likely to engage with. TikTok is also an effective platform for spreading a message, since users don’t need to follow you to see your content. If the account is public, the video has the potential to appear on the For You page, allowing it to reach a much wider and more diverse audience.

This is my storyboard outlining how the video will go. It is a visual guide to help me plan each shot, including the angles, actions, and direction for the model. This will ensure the filming process is organised and that every part of the video aligns with my creative vision.
Trial shoot for the main scene
I had a clear vision for the digital wardrobe scene but wasn’t initially sure how to shoot and edit it to achieve the effect I wanted. I brought in clothing items and started by filming flat lays of each piece. My model stood in the same spot throughout the video, pointing upward as if selecting an item. She then changed into the outfit and returned to the same position to keep the transitions smooth. We repeated this process with several items, and once the final look was complete, she walked off-screen.
I edited the video using Premiere Pro and was pleased with the overall result. I’m also glad I did this trial run, as it helped me identify areas for improvement. For example, I realised I need to get a tripod, as the slight shifts in camera angles were noticeable. Also, I plan to edit the background to give it a more digital and futuristic feel, rather than the current modern setting.

Here, I experimented with editing the video to create a more digital and futuristic look, showing the progression from my initial attempt to a more developed version. I used Photoshop and ChatGPT to help transform the background into a digital concept. I’m pleased with how the final version looks so far, but I plan to continue developing it further, exploring how I can successfully apply this background effect to a moving video.

I wanted the background to include more futuristic elements, similar to the ones in my retro-futurism croquis. To achieve this, I used ChatGPT by providing the last version of my digital wardrobe image along with the croquis. I asked it to incorporate more of the objects from the croquis into the background, helping the final image align more closely with my original vision. I do like the image it produced however I do prefer the other copies that it gave me as they look more clear that it is a digital wardrobe.

I want to elevate styling in my video to look very futuristic and different to catch the audiences eye. I am going to be using the same 1 peice of clothing and styling it 3 different ways to show how to be sustainable. I will also be sorcing the styling items from my wardrobe or vinted to keep with the sustainability. I think this is what will make my video stand out because it isnt just tracksuits and jeans that everyone is wearing today.
Styling items options:

When the clothes appear on the model, I want her poses to be noticeably different and quite weird to reflect the futuristic theme. This will help enhance the otherworldly vibe of the video and make it clear that this isn’t typical fashion, it’s a playful, imaginative look into the future. By pushing the poses beyond traditional modelling, it also adds a sense of creativity and individuality that aligns with both Gen Z and Gen Alpha.
Going forward
As I move into Component 3, I now have a clear and focused vision for how my video will unfold and how I plan to communicate my message effectively. I’ve decided on the influencer I want to feature and have a strong understanding of their role and actions within the video. I’ve also finalised the overall aesthetic and vibe, along with the key styling choices that will bring the concept to life.
My next steps involve finalising the outfits that my model will wear, using the selected styling pieces to ensure consistency with the futuristic theme. To stay organised and ensure the shoot runs smoothly, I will also create a detailed schedule for the shoot day, this will help manage time efficiently, coordinate scenes, and keep everything on track from setup to final takes.

Component 3
I put together 3 different outfits using clothes from my wardrobe and off vinted. I am going to be using the same silver jacket in all 3 outfits but styled differently to show that you can re wear clothes multiple times and style them in different ways to change up the look. I also think these looks are very unique and out there which is exacly how I wanted them to look.
My favourite look is the pink one so I am going to save this one til the end and have the model walk off in this outfit as I think this is the look that is the most fun and will appeal to Gen alpha the most. I have looked at the posing that I want for each look.
I have also looked at different ways I will style the jacket for each look.

Trial shoot

For my trial shoot I brought all my outfits and tripod in, we used the green sheet for the background, the trial shoot was for mw to see how all of the outfits looked like on the model and so I could get an idea of how the shoot will go and how the editing would go.
When it came to editing the video, it was hard for me to cut the model out on the green screen because there were too many creases and shadows on the sheet, therefore for the final shoot I will be shooting in the green screen studio at uni and I will make sure that the lighting is better so that there are no shadows.
Also in the final shoot I will have my influencer, Madison that I have spoken about previously in my work. I think she will be perfect for this shoot as she has had experience before in modelling and shooting so will be more comfortable
AI development

I really liked how the second image turned out. However, to use it in a moving video, I needed to remove the AI-generated model so my own model could be placed there instead. I brought the image into Photoshop, removed the model, and used Content-Aware Fill to complete the background. This cleared space will be where my model stands and interacts with the button to style the outfits on her
self.
To develop the AI digital wardrobe that I created in component 2, I changed it to match the outfits that I am going to have in my video, I changed the outfit name to futuristic. I used images from the trial shoot that we shot to put into chat gpt to develop it from the last image.

Final shoot
I created a shoot plan for my final shoot to make sure it runs smoothly and I know exactly what is coming up next so I can tell the model confidently. This also makes sure that I am organised and prepared to shoot each outfit.

How does my video message fit the breif
The shoot went very well and we actually wrapped up ahead of schedule. My model was confident and natural when posing in the outfits, which really helped things flow smoothly. I also applied some adjustments I picked up during the trial shoot, particularly with the lighting and overall setup, which made a noticeable difference. Everything came together really nicely.
I made the decision to be the creator of the message, the person who is carrying the message (the influencer) is a Gen Z that is not a familier face but is authentic and someone that gen alpha and gen z can relate to. This video is really speaking directly to Gen Alpha. It gives them a glimpse of what fashion could look like in their future, something immersive, exciting, and completely transformed by technology. The visuals are fun, colourful, and full of energy, which I believe will really pull them in and capture their imagination. The video also shows how AI and technology will soon takeover. I think my video is apart of a movement and something that will be by 2030, the new normal and something that generation alpha will not only grow up with but actively look forward to and take part in.
