Isaac takes its advocacy national Isaac Regional Council is upping the ante on its advocacy for regional priorities with the start of a national awareness campaign. Mayor Cr Anne Baker has contacted more than 560 councils across the country, seeking support for four Isaac motions to the annual National General Assembly (NGA) of Local Government. “The NGA is an opportunity for Councils to debate, discuss and develop policies on issues of national significance that affect our communities,” Cr Baker said. “We have written to relevant Federal Ministers and Shadow Ministers, and every local government across Australia, seeking support for real action and beneficial outcomes.” Cr Baker said Isaac Regional Council was calling on the Federal Government to: •
Maintain the real value of Financial Assistance Grants and Roads To Recovery programmes
•
Adopt the Australian Infrastructure Plan recommendation to establish a National Water Reform Plan that will deliver safe and secure water supplies for regional and remote communities
•
Amend Australia’s anti-discrimination laws to prohibit the use of postcodes to deny employment opportunities to Australian workers
•
Adopt the Australian Infrastructure Plan recommendation to create a National Freight and Supply Chain Strategy.
“We are anticipating significant support from our council colleagues in regional and remote communities across Australia in the lead up to the NGA,” Cr Baker said.
“We will work hard to secure the formal support we need for Isaac’s motions to be carried by the NGA, and press these important issues with Ministers and Shadow Ministers.” The NGA is to be held at the National Convention Centre in Canberra on June 19- 22, 2016. The theme for the 2016 is Partners in an Innovative and Prosperous Australia.

Update: Clermont 5 cent Challenge contributed by Prue Lonergan
During May we asked the community and both primary schools to help raise money for the RACQ CQ Rescue Helicopter by donating their small change. Once again Clermont you are an amazing community, with $2,260 donated. Thank you to each of the businesses who had donation tins for the 5c Challenge: Choice, Commercial Hotel, Clermont Pharmacy, Penny’s Café, Clermont Newsagency and Lotta Lattes.
The biggest thank you to all our primary school students who actively pursued their parents to donate their loose change over the collection period. Just a reminder that 2016 is the 20th anniversary for the CQ Rescue Helicopter, and as you hear the helicopter overhead, remember that their work is never done.

Yes last week enjoying the delights of the Queensland Police Academy (please laugh here) so the Fuzzbook had to wait another week to hit the headlines. Incidentally I am now a trained safety advisor in Workplace Health and Safety so auditing workplaces and conducting investigations within the Police Service all around the district mainly to comply with the law and to maintain safe working environments for all our staff. I can hear some people already saying, not workplace health and safety again, its gone too far and we live in a nanny state. Just one statistic you need to hear on that point. Injuries from road crashes and within the workplace for the 2011/2012 financial year cost the Australian economy roughly 4% of GDP (GDP = $1.75 trillion) or $70 billion dollars. Could we have put that to better use? I think so. If you see something unsafe in your workplace speak up. For everyone’s information Worksafe Queensland website has “Jason’s Story” on its front page and well worth a listen. The Clermont Police are absolutely getting hammered in collecting firearms once more from license holders that have let their license expire. Also people that have been kind enough to hold guns while others get their license, have only 3 months and then they have to still be handed into the police. Remember nostalgia is not practical, if you really don’t need a gun and its just taking up space and costing you money you can always relinquish the firearm for destruction to the police station, otherwise keep onto those expiry dates and get those renewals completed. Nothing coming in on the crime front. However I will remind everyone to lock away their valuables particularly when you are away from your vehicle or your house. More and more people are reporting scams both online and phone based that are costing them real money. Remember if it sounds too good to be true, then don’t take anyone up on their offer. If you are in any doubt, hang up the phone, stop the e-mail and come and see me at the police station. My staff and I will do some digging before you end up in hot water or few hundred dollars worse off. As for the young ones, if mum and dad are talking about scams, listen in as social media is a new platform for scams. Today was Leo Wilson’s funeral and a lovely ceremony was conducted by Alan Guilfoyle and a sombre occasion was turned into one of reflection on Leo’s life. Many a good yarn heard with everyone agreeing the ceremony was what Leo would have wanted. All the best to his family. On that note that’s it for this week. Remember watch your speed on the road and stay safe with the annual caravan migration heading our way. Sarge.

The Clermont Show - the Isaac Region’s Show hits some highs contributed by Kate Flohr
The 2016 Clermont Show – the Isaac Region’s Show has come and gone and it was another amazing display of what the Region has to offer. The sideshow alley was full of colour, excitement and smiling faces, and even a stilt walker or two. At the other end of the showgrounds, amazing displays of vegetables, incredible school displays and mouth-watering cooking was on display when walking through the Pavilion. The horse and cattle events were again well supported, as were the youth competitions.
Congratulations to all exhibitors and competitors, especially those who won some of the major awards:
Tuesday evening again saw an amazing firework display with this year’s exhibition being bigger and better than previous years. This was then followed by the Young Farmers’ Challenge which saw the Showgirl and Rural Ambassador Team taking out the title for 2016.

Children love Baby Bounce, Storytime, Craft and Rhymetime Have you recently moved to Clermont with a young family and want to meet other young families. The Clermont Library runs several weekly children’s sessions and these are a good way to connect with other parents with young children. Rhymetime and Craft is held from 9.30am to 10am every Tuesday for children up to five years old, where they can sing and dance to nursery rhyme songs. Baby Bounce is held on Thursday from 9.30am to 10am and is aimed at children aged up to two years. Baby Bounce is a chance for parents to interact with their child through movement, music and song. Storytime and Craft time for the littlies is held at the Clermont Library every Friday from 9.30am to 10.30am and caters for children up to Prep age. It’s time again for the start of the 2016 Clermont Mixed Touch season. Thanks to everyone who’s been patiently waiting for the season to commence. We would love to see all previous teams, new teams or modified teams to ideally form an 8 team competition. Teams need to be comprised of males and females and require a minimum of 3 females on the field at all times. Mixed touch is played with 6 players per team on the field at a time with substitutes on the sidelines. The competition is played on Wednesday evenings commencing 6.00pm, with two timeslots and will be conducted at the Clermont sportsgrounds. Each game comprises 2 halves of 20mins with approximately one 5min half time break. If you are interested in playing touch this season, gather a team together, and fill out the individual player’s registration form and once you’ve got your team together, complete the team registration form and submit it via the facebook page or in person to a committee member. If you are an individual and looking to join a team, please let yourself be known on the facebook page or contact one of the touch committee members below. Team registration is $600 per team. This covers affiliation, insurance and running fees associated with the season. For the competition to commence, we will need a minimum of 6 teams, and a maximum of 8.
