Isaac roads flood damage bill rising Isaac roads flood damage bill is rising, as Isaac Regional Council moves forward with reconstruction works.
Mr Ferguson said broader scoping of the entire Isaac region’s flood damage is nearing completion.
CEO Rod Ferguson said significant damage was caused by the February flood event.
“Further scoping should be finished in the next six weeks and will then be submitted to the Queensland Reconstruction Authority (QRA) for assessment,” he said.
“Road crews are currently working on $1.5 million in emergency works, with four major projects completed or nearing completion,” he said.
“Once completed, the works will be claimed under the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA).
“Crews have completed road reinstatement and batter protection on Golden Mile Road’s Blackburn Creek culvert, after the road leading into the culvert was washed away.
“It is expected the damage bill will reach into the multi millions.” The recent damage to roads has joined a long list of projects under Council’s NDRRA Flood Restoration Program.
“Stabilisation and asphalt replacement has been completed on Peak Downs Mine Access Road.
The program was implemented as a result of several severe weather events from 2010-2014, which caused widespread damage to the region’s roads and drainage infrastructure.
“The road surface was warped after excess water seeped under the asphalt. “Saraji Road’s Barrett Creek and Downs Creek Overflow culverts were also damaged, with reconstruction works expected to be completed in May.”

Council grants 19 not-for-profits rates relief More than 19 not-for-profit sporting organisations across the Isaac region were granted a total of $55,523.54 in rates relief at a recent Statutory Council meeting.
Mayor Baker said not-for-profit organisations were vital to community wellbeing, fulfilling social, health and cultural community needs.
Isaac Regional Council Mayor Anne Baker said Council understands the financial pressures not-for-profit organisations are under in the current economic climate.
“We hope these concessions provide them with an opportunity to secure or improve their organisation and activities.”
“Some organisations had approached Council seeking consideration for rates concessions charged under lease arrangements. “Following a review of properties Council leases to not-forprofit organisations, the decision was made to apply consistent remissions across the region.”
Another 50 not-for-profit organisations currently already receive concessions on their rates through Isaac Regional Council. Council will be reconsidering leasing arrangements and notfor-profit concessions for the 2016/17 financial year. The decision was made at the February 23 Isaac Regional Council Statutory Meeting.
“Council is granting 19 not-for-profit organisations a full remission to their general rates and a 50% remission of their water and sewerage charges for the 2015/16 financial year.”

Plans for the Clermont Show Cattlemen’s Challenge Field Day at Laurel Hills Feedlot, Clermont are well underway. All beef producers wanting to learn more about carcass traits and ultrasound scanning of cattle are encouraged to attend the Field Day on Friday May 13 from 9am. Focusing on how to maximize profitability by better understanding carcass traits and live animal data, the day is certain to be of interest to all in the beef business who are planning to purchase bulls and market cattle this year. Competition steers have been at “Laurel Hills” on a grain ration since early February. Inspection of the challenge cattle and assessment of their weight performances over the last three months will begin the days’ program. Vendors will select three steers to go to the Show for judging, one steer to be entered into a carcass competition and into the Taste Test Competition at the Show on Tuesday May 24, starting at approximately 12.30pm near the Agent’s Kiosk. After the steer selection process, live animal ultrasound scanning for fat depth, intramuscular fat and eye muscle area will be demonstrated on the steers selected for the carcass competition.
The demonstrator will discuss estimated breeding values (EBV’s) and their use for genetic improvement, the heritability of carcass traits and how to understand animal data provided at sales. A tour of the feedlot by the Hall family has been arranged. Although this is targeted towards the school groups who are attending the day, all field day participants are welcome to join in. The field day is being organized by the Clermont Show Beef Cattle Committee and hosted by the Hall family, with bbq lunch and refreshments provided through the generous support of Riverina Stockfeeds. Sorry people that I have been a bit remiss on putting in my article for the last couple of weeks. There has been a fair bit happening and I would like to bring everyone up to speed.
The bar area was made big enough so people weren’t tripping over each other or no ones lady got inadvertently touched by another fella. You know that’s how the blues start.
I left you all with the first day of the search for the missing 15 year old girl we had in town. I know that was the end of March but it was great to see success in locating her on the third day of the official land search. I would like to personally thank all the SES and other volunteers that came and helped out the town of Clermont especially GB Helicopters. Some of you would be surprised to know that SES came from all over the region and remember they do not get paid for it. The young girl on being located has been relocated to another town. Some less than constructive comments have circulated around town about the whole issue and frankly it has been resolved for the time being and let’s just move on as a town.
Good crowd afterwards in the pubs and no problems except some under age kids trying their luck. Luckily fake ID is easy enough to spot, especially if it doesn’t even look like you!
The sad news of one of our local girls, Barb Bridgeman passing on has hit quite hard. The Bridgeman family is quite large and spans the whole region. The news that came was sad for myself personally. Even her twin girls will admit I spent far too much time over the years with the whole family dealing with those pesky girls. Now unfortunately they have been left without a mother and her beautiful grandchildren without their Granny. I wish all the family the best and hope everyone remains strong. Barb was a great helper to many of the older people in town that just had no one to help them out. I don’t know how many times she would be weeding gardens, running people around or just delivering groceries. She will be sorely missed by many. The Clermont Rodeo went off without a hitch. The committee this year, I believe steered by Marksy, put together a good show for the whole family.
Not much happening on the crime front. We are having property stolen from vehicles such as spotties and tools out of the backs of utilities. If you want to keep your stuff, then secure it. Spotlights can be put on with special nuts and bolts to stop theft. Same goes for eskies and portable fridges. Engel fridges are worth over a thousand dollars for a decent one, so secure it! On the school front helmet wearing is getting better but we need to see everyone with their helmets on. An acquired brain injury is no laughing matter and they happen quite easily if a child falls off of a bike with no helmet on. It is cheap health insurance for your child. Also motorbikes. I do not know what possesses parents to buy their children motorbikes in town. It is particularly cruel to have them in the shed and the kids get tempted to ride them especially when mum and dad are not home. Instances have recently been reported. Just a warning. These bikes will be seized if the riders are caught and the parents as well as the child will be prosecuted. This is because the parent is allowing the child to ride unlicensed. So join the motorcross and do the right thing or find a paddock to ride in with friends, not the streets of town. Anyway that’s about it for now. Hope to see everyone on Anzac Day at the parade. Anzac Day closure Clermont Library will be closed on Monday April 25 for the Anzac Day observance. If you have an interest in the Anzacs or World War One, be sure to check out the Clermont Library’s Anzac Day display of books about the Anzacs, World War One and the Battle of Gallipoli. Clermont has a very close link with the Battle of Gallipoli through Billy Sing, who was born and raised in Clermont, and served with the Light Horsemen at Gallipoli. Billy Sing became known as the ‘Gallipoli Sniper’. You can read about Billy Sing in ‘Gallipoli Sniper’ by John Hamilton – the Clermont Library has a copy of this book for loan. ComicsPlus is here! These little robots proved to be very popular with children who attended Ozobot sessions at the Clermont Library during the Christmas/New Year break. Children will have fun learning codes and designing tracks for the Ozobots to follow. Ozobot sessions for school-children aged eight years and up will be held at the Clermont Library on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 3.30pm to 4pm during Term 2 of the school calendar. It is a great opportunity for children interested in robotics and a maze challenge is planned. First Five Forever The First Five Forever program aims to give children from birth to five years old the best chance in life and improve literacy outcomes. Babies and children love sharing stories and it’s never too early to talk, read and tell stories with your child.
Children love Baby Bounce, Storytime, Craft and Rhymetime Have you recently moved to Clermont with a young family and want to meet other young families. The Clermont Library runs several weekly children’s sessions and these are a good way to connect with other parents with young children. Rhymetime and Craft is held from 9.30am to 10am every Tuesday for children up to five years old, where they can sing and dance to nursery rhyme songs. Baby Bounce is held on Thursday from 9.30am to 10am and is aimed at children aged up to two years. Baby Bounce is a chance for parents to interact with their child through movement, music and song. Storytime and Craft time for the littlies is held at the Clermont Library every Friday from 9.30am to 10.30am and caters for children up to Prep age. CLASS DESCRIPTIONS TRX Suspension Training Every Suspension training exercise builds true functional strength and improves flexibility, balance and core stability all at once, as is required on the playing fields of sport and in life. Intermediate sessions are higher intensity workouts as basics should be well ingrained in participants. Monday and Saturdays, Wednesday 30 minutes flexibility focus. Rip Group Rx A high intensity strength conditioning class using barbell and light weights. 45-1 hour in duration. Bring towel and water bottle! $16.50 casual/free for members. Rip Express is a 45min major muscle group workout. THUMP boxing for fitness 1 hour free for members. Beginners L1 run Wednesday nights 6pm. A pair of inners to be worn under gloves can be purchased for $5.00 before class. L2 and L3 bookings only! Boxing equipment provided for both classes. $16.50 per class, free for gym members. AXIS A half hour functional body weight resistance class for adults and kids 8-14 year olds. Improve core and whole body strength. $6.60 per child. Class is set to music. CLASS DESCRIPTION Gut and Butt Blast is a target class that focuses on strengthening and toning the nine core divisions of the abdominal plane. While simultaneously blasting the three muscles of the buttocks, hamstrings and quadriceps. This will increase fat metabolism at rest and help slim and tone those problematic areas. Although not targeted, general whole body conditioning applies and while challenging, is more than suitable for any fitness level. Aqua Fit An excellent fitness class in the water for all ages groups and fitness levels, the class is a combination of deep water and shallow water aquatic exercises designed to improve flexibility, aerobic capacity, muscular strength and endurance. Circuit training This is a form of body conditioning or resistance training using high-intensity/ low-intensity aerobic energy.
It targets strength building and muscular endurance. An exercise ‘circuit’ is one completion of all prescribed exercises in the program. It is highly enjoyable and recommended to all levels of fitness. Open gym This is your opportunity to use the Gym facilities, there will be a basic weights program and WOD on offer for your utilisation, or you could just be creative and do your own training. XT - THUMP boxing it’s a nice way to start your day. This class incorporates 10mins of circuit cardio, 10mins strength training and 20mins thump boxing. A fully functional total body workout that burns, burns, burns. Metafit This is a 30 minute bodyweight training system that gets results! It is a functional and effective, metabolic workout that will change the way you train. Created by a former Royal Marine Commando, Metafit combines the latest HIIT techniques with traditional ‘old school’ bodyweight exercises to set the metabolism on fire! Lets lift circuit Resistance Circuit works on the principle of Circuit Training with stations broken down into a lower and upper body weights workout, using the subscription of low weights high repetition to develop a challenging total body workout, ensuring lean muscle mass gains.
