Isaac Regional Council sworn in The Isaac region’s newly elected Council was sworn in at a special ceremony in Moranbah on April 4.
Deputy Mayor Bethel said he felt privileged to have been nominated to the role.
Mayor Anne Baker and eight Councillors were sworn in representing the region’s eight divisions for a term of four years.
“It’s an honour to continue representing the Isaac, and I look forward to the challenges and progress of the next four years,” he said.
Mayor Anne Baker, Division 3 Councillor Gina Lacey and Division 7 Councillor Jane Pickels were re-elected unopposed.
Mayor Anne Baker acknowledged the contribution of outgoing Division 6 Councillor Barbara Stranks, and all the candidates who nominated in the local government elections.
One newly elected member took her place on Council; Cr Lynette Jones representing Clermont in Division 6. Councillor Geoff Bethel was unanimously appointed Deputy Mayor, bringing a wealth of local government experience to the role. Mayor Baker said it was a significant show of confidence from the community to be re-elected as Mayor along with a largely unchanged Council. “It’s humbling and pleasing to see the community’s faith in Council’s current leadership,” she said. “We are excited to start work straight away in building a stronger region and delivering positive outcomes for our people.”

Red and blue for SES crews
Depot leaders welcome the new red and blue lights fitted on SES vehicles at their quarterly meeting: Michelle Dwyer (Deputy) - St Lawrence, Lashona Petersen - Carmila, Trevor Eldrich - St Lawrence and Alex McPhee - Local Controller Isaac Regional Council SES.
Isaac Regional Council State Emergency Service vehicles are now equipped with red and blue lights, as part of a safety measure being rolled out across Queensland.
“The change also brings Queensland SES in line with the rest of the country keeping all emergency services vehicles consistent.”
Local SES Controller Alex McPhee said the lights meant SES members would be more visible on the roadside.
Isaac SES relies on volunteers from across the region with depots in Moranbah, Nebo, Clermont, Dysart, Middlemount, St Lawrence, Carmila and Green Hill.
“The old amber lights made it hard for the public to distinguish the difference between an emergency vehicle and a council or mine vehicle,” he said. “They posed a safety risk to crews when attending events such as road incidents, traffic management and storm damage clean up.

Ozobots are back! Ozobots have returned to the Clermont Library for Term 2. These little robots proved to be very popular with children who attended Ozobot sessions at the Clermont Library during the Christmas/New Year break. Children will have fun learning codes and designing tracks for the Ozobots to follow. Ozobot sessions for school-children aged eight years and up will be held at the Clermont Library on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 3.30pm to 4pm during Term 2 of the school calendar. It is a great opportunity for children interested in robotics and a maze challenge is planned. First Five Forever The First Five Forever program aims to give children from birth to five years old the best chance in life and improve literacy outcomes. Babies and children love sharing stories and it’s never too early to talk, read and tell stories with your child. Check out TumbleBooks TumbleBooks is a free library e-resource available through the Isaac Libraries link on the Isaac Regional Council’s website. TumbleBooks is an e-resource of e-books for children aged 4-12 years. Through TumbleBooks, children can read books and graphic novels online and play games and videos relating to the stories.

Children love Baby Bounce, Storytime, Craft and Rhymetime Have you recently moved to Clermont with a young family and want to meet other young families. The Clermont Library runs several weekly children’s sessions and these are a good way to connect with other parents with young children. Rhymetime and Craft is held from 9.30am to 10am every Tuesday for children up to five years old, where they can sing and dance to nursery rhyme songs. Baby Bounce is held on Thursday from 9.30am to 10am and is aimed at children aged up to two years. Baby Bounce is a chance for parents to interact with their child through movement, music and song.

CLASS DESCRIPTION Gut and Butt Blast is a target class that focuses on strengthening and toning the nine core divisions of the abdominal plane. While simultaneously blasting the three muscles of the buttocks, hamstrings and quadriceps. This will increase fat metabolism at rest and help slim and tone those problematic areas. Although not targeted, general whole body conditioning applies and while challenging, is more than suitable for any fitness level. Aqua Fit An excellent fitness class in the water for all ages groups and fitness levels, the class is a combination of deep water and shallow water aquatic exercises designed to improve flexibility, aerobic capacity, muscular strength and endurance. Circuit training This is a form of body conditioning or resistance training using high-intensity/ low-intensity aerobic energy. It targets strength building and muscular endurance. An exercise ‘circuit’ is one completion of all prescribed exercises in the program. It is highly enjoyable and
XT - THUMP boxing it’s a nice way to start your day. This class incorporates 10mins of circuit cardio, 10mins strength training and 20mins thump boxing. A fully functional total body workout that burns, burns, burns. Metafit This is a 30 minute bodyweight training system that gets results! It is a functional and effective, metabolic workout that will change the way you train. Created by a former Royal Marine Commando, Metafit combines the latest HIIT techniques with traditional ‘old school’ bodyweight exercises to set the metabolism on fire! Lets lift circuit Resistance Circuit works on the principle of Circuit Training with stations broken down into a lower and upper body weights workout, using the subscription of low weights high repetition to develop a challenging total body workout, ensuring lean muscle mass gains.
