C & K Clermont Community Kindergarten held their first Teddy Bear Picnic fundraiser at Hoods Lagoon on Saturday August 29.
There were classes for: Biggest Bear, Smallest Bear, Most-Loved Bear, Oldest Bear, Hairiest Bear and Best Dressed Bear!
We had a fantastic turnout of families and teddies. The children had great fun playing games in the park togetherfreeze, musical bumps, red rover and then went on a lolly hunt around the park.
Our C & K Kindergarten had some lovely parent helpers who all pitched in on the day to run a sausage sizzle and bake stall for the morning. Thank you to all the families who helped out. We hope everyone enjoyed the morning.
Later on, the children were able to enter their favourite teddies in various classes for some ribbons and prizes.
We are planning on putting the funds raised towards purchasing some new outdoor equipment for our kindergarten children.

Public notices Clermont library temporarily closed
Isaac Regional Council would like to advise that the Clermont library will be closed on Saturday September 12. We are currently reviewing library programming and services and have implemented some temporary changes to the operational hours of the Moranbah and Clermont Libraries. These changes are while we work to ensure library services meet the needs of the community and remain financially sustainable. The library will reopen at 8.30am Monday September 14 as per usual opening hours.

Pirate’s ahoy at Isaac libraries Ahoy there! Pirates know there’s a trove of treasure at Isaac Libraries from Monday September 14. Wee buccaneer folk be sure to drop anchor for Pirate Week with lots of swashbucklin fun in store. The merry crew on board Isaac Libraries Adventure Galley will be celebrating all things pirate with themed story time, craft and fun activities in the lead up to International Talk Like A Pirate Day. Clermont Isaac library crew invite you to dress as a dangerous pirate rogue for their extra special ‘Talk Like A Pirate Day’ events on Friday September 18 from 9.30am to 10.30am. Talk Like a Pirate Day, held on Saturday September 19, aims to raise awareness of the impact of childhood cancer has on families, and fundraises for the not-for-profit organisation, Childhood Cancer Support. Expressions of Interest - Community Representative Clermont Historical Centre Advisory Committee Expressions of Interest are sought from interested persons to join the Clermont Historical Centre Advisory Committee as a Community Representative. The Committee is made up of two (2) elected Councillors, (2) IRC employees and three (3) Community Representatives. The Committee advises Council on short and long term issues to ensure successful management of the facility into the future. The day to day running of the Centre is managed by the Council, with the advice, support and assistance of the Advisory Committee. The Committee is guided by the Clermont Historical Centre Strategic Business Plan and operates in accordance with the Committee Terms of Reference.
Expressions of interest to join the Clermont Historical Centre Advisory Committee should be made in writing and address the following selection criteria: 1. Demonstrated interest in and knowledge of local heritage management issues; 2. Demonstrated ability to dedicate time to attend monthly meetings, perform tasks and actively contribute to committee business; 3. ChemClear contributes to a cleaner Queensland ChemClear has successfully completed its second largest collection of unwanted agricultural and veterinary chemicals in Queensland. The final pool equated to 37.16 tonnes, with 22,041 L/kg of Group 1 classified chemicals and 15,120 L/kg of Group 2 chemicals collected from farmers, businesses, golf courses, government departments and councils across the state. “We are extremely pleased with the result,” said National Program Manager Lisa Nixon. “In total, ChemClear has collected over 178.7 tonnes of obsolete or unknown chemicals across QLD over the past nine years”. QLD exceeds any other state’s retrieved collection totals under the program, with NSW coming a close second with around 138.7 tonnes collected to date. Ms Nixon said, “After 12 years with ChemClear, the level of really old, nasty chemicals that comes out of the woodwork on state collections still amazes me. Our data shows that there are a lot of agvet chemicals that are inherited from farm purchases or family takeovers. A lot of the products are also simply no longer required due to changes in agriculture. It’s really important that farmers have a service available to dispose of these chemicals as they can pose a real safety and health risk.”
This year’s agvet chemical in the Group 2 pool was partly funded by the QLD Department of Environment and Heritage Protection. The Department funded the collection of 11,853 L/ kg from 156 farmers and the remainder of 3,2667 L/kg was paid for by a further 34 waste holders. Feedback collected after the run has also been positive, with 100% of program users indicating that the delivery process was straightforward and convenient, and they would use the service again in the future. Health and safety, followed by concern about damage to the environment associated with irresponsible disposal, were the main motivators behind users registering their chemicals for collection. 98% of chemicals collected by ChemClear are used as an alternative fuel source in the manufacturing of cement. Most of the material is destroyed in kilns which reach temperatures in excess of 1,800°C. The ChemClear truck collected product from hundreds of farmers in less than six weeks during June and July, and covered 12,063 kilometres in total. On the return trip to Melbourne, the program also took the opportunity to collect 6.5 tonnes of chemicals from two farmers in Walgett and Wee Waa as the truck passed through New South Wales. Together these quantities accumulate to bring the overall amount of chemicals collected across Australia to 500 tonnes since the inception of the program in 2003 – a wonderful achievement for all involved.

Each year about 300 Australian children (aged 0 - 14 years) are killed and 60,000 hospitalised by unintentional injuries – the kind often referred to as ‘accidents’. Many of these can be easily prevented by simple means.

2. Injuries are the leading cause of death in Australian children aged one to fourteen, accounting for nearly half of all deaths in this age group. More children die from injury than of cancer, asthma and infectious diseases combined.
Together these four causes account for 75% of all child injury deaths.
3. After respiratory illnesses like asthma, injuries are the second leading cause of child hospitalisation. 4. Child injuries cost the nation an estimated 1.5 billion dollars annually. 5. Unintentional injuries make up around 95% of all child injury deaths, compared to 5% for intentional injuries from abuse, violence, suicide and neglect. 6. Child injury deaths have been halved since 1979, from about two a day to one per day. While good progress has been made, Kidsafe estimates a further 80 deaths and 20,000 hospitalisations could be prevented annually by implementing known safety countermeasures. 7. Young children under the age of five years are most at risk of unintentional injury, and account for around half of all child injury deaths. 8. Child deaths from unintentional injury are most commonly the result of:

car crashes child pedestrians being hit by motor vehicles drowning, in particular young children killed in home pools house fires
Hospitalisations of young children, from unintentional injury is most commonly the result of: falls e.g. from nursery equipment poisoning e.g. from medicines and household cleaners scalds e.g. from hot drinks/food and hot tap water choking and dog bites
For school aged children, the leading causes of hospitalisation are: • falls e.g. falls from playground equipment, especially for children aged five to nine years • cutting and piercing injuries e.g. cuts sustained by children falling through plate glass • car passenger injuries • pedestrian injuries 10. The most common place for young children to be injured is in their own home. As children get older, injuries in community settings such as playgrounds, sports fields, at school and on our roads become more common. Ensuring the safety of our homes, roads and communities is paramount for keeping children safe.

Talk Like a Pirate Day – it be on Saturday September 19 but the merry crew on board the HMAS Isaac Libraries they be celebrating all things pirate next week. The Storytime Ship has set course to dock at the port of Clermont Library for Storytime on Friday September 18 and pirates, young and old, are invited aboard. Y’all be dressed as pirates for extra Storytime merriment. Children’s holiday activities The Clermont Library will be holding children’s holiday activities for primary school-age children during the September/October school holidays. Get into in2Era In2Era is a free library e-resource available through the Isaac Libraries link on the Isaac Regional Council’s webpage. In2Era is a database of picture and Early Literacy Books online, aimed at children aged three to 10 years. It has more than 200 titles with Australian narration and children can listen to the story, read along with the narrator and create storyboard pictures using the books own characters and themes. You don’t need a personal account to access in2Era, just follow the links to in2Era via the council’s website: www.issac.qld.gov.au/e-resources.

For ages 5 and up to 90 or more. You will learn breathing exercises and positions that can help improve arthritic symptoms, insomnia, blood pressure, mood and aid with relaxation and flexibility. There are many benefits of Yoga, this class is suitable for pregnant women, screening will be conducted prior to participation. Bookings for Yoga are essential. $15 for casuals. $6 for children up to 14 years. Power Yoga is not suitable for children under 10 years of age. Pilates- Level 1 Matwork 45 mins learn the fundamentals of pilates in a low impact class for good posture, strength for pelvic floor, core and general toning. Mats required.

Vets Golf
Eleven vets played a stroke competition and the winner was Lee Gordon with run downs to Ned McFarlane, Bill Oates and Olly Faros. Least putts14 to Bill Oates. Vets hit off at 2pm every Thursday and visitors are welcome. Vets please note we will be playing for the Roy McKewin on September 24, hitting off at 9am with lunch to follow.

CLASS DESCRIPTION Gut and Butt Blast is a target class that focuses on strengthening and toning the nine core divisions of the abdominal plane. While simultaneously blasting the three muscles of the buttocks, hamstrings and quadriceps. This will increase fat metabolism at rest and help slim and tone those problematic areas. Although not targeted, general whole body conditioning applies and while challenging, is more than suitable for any fitness level. Workout Of the Day (WOD) This is a board based program, working TO the principles of H.I.I.T where you can come in and complete the workout in your own time. What is H.I.I.T? High-intensity interval training is a training technique, which commands full effort through quick, intense bursts of exercise followed by active recovery periods. This form of exercise uses power and cardio, keeping the heart rate high and metabolizing fat at the same time.
Open Gym This is your opportunity to use the Gym facilities, there will be a basic weights program and WOD on offer for your utilisation, or you could just be creative and do your own training. Lets Lift This program has been designed to target the eight large muscle groups in a 45 minute whole body workout. This is achieved through the use of barbell and Dumbbell weights. This class is suitable for every fitness level. Mad GRIT This is a 30min program incorporating core, strength and cardio based exercise, ideal for total fitness development. THUMP Boxing is a moderate to high intensity cardio boxing class. This class is specifically effective in defining the body’s musculature, while improving balance, flexibility, and co-ordination. The cardio component uses the body’s energy systems and improves your ability to use oxygen, helping you to work harder for longer and burn fat in the process.
