Project 1. Self Portrait Series (2019)

When first arriving in Singapore, I put up a composed façade to conceal my panic when familiarising with its brand new culture. This series of self-portraits represents my process of reconciling with my dual identities as both a Chinese and a Singapore student.

Project 2. Poised and Posed (2019)

Inspired by the rhythm of Chinese Calligraphy, I attempted to use human figures to embody the meaning of those fascinating words. These Chinese characters are the inverted versions of “Vanity”, “Tranquility” and “Illusion”, from left to right respectively.

Project 3. Up and Up (2019 )

A commentary on modern society’s high expectation of masculinity, with the word of encouragement, “Up”, forcibly imprinted onto their bleak outfits.

Inspired by the opening titles of TV series American Gods

An arrangement of ceremonial objects across different cultures, with an unexpected twist.

Project 6. A Little Life (2020)

Oil on canvas, 120x80 cm each installed on opposite walls in the corner of a room

Explore the wonder of lights and colors in the minutiae of lives. Inspired by the different modes of living back home and in a boarding school.

A lampshade for the torchlight of mobile phones

Dimension: 30X30X40 cm using rattan, wooden planks, acrylic sheets and cloths

Project 12. Juice lounge Bubble Cup ( 2020 )

• A juice lounge would be the perfect facility to bring a sense of liveliness to the otherwise dull campus

• A rhythmic shelter and staircase resembling conveyor belts

• Zen Corridor design that inspires tranquility and calmness.

• Umbrella design for the patio combined with features from local fruits such as Mangosteen and Rambutan.

For the cover and divider design, I melded together the alternating skylines of Singapore and my hometown Guiyang, as well as the unique buildings in both places.
