PAST MEETS PRESENT
They say what goes around comes around, and this couldn’t be truer than in the wedding industry right now. Whether it be accessories influenced from the ’70s (page 45), a cake inspired by your parents’ wedding cake in the ’90s (page 74), or recreating an image of your grandma (page 33), couples are embracing aspects from past decades more than ever.
The Graduate by Hilton Lincoln also loves embracing nostalgia. Its space inspired our feature for this issue and played a major role in shaping 402 Events’ vision for the wedding design. It all started with the carpet in the Scarlet Ballroom. Instead of avoiding the carpet or trying to mask it, the team leaned into the playful, midcentury modern vibe to create something truly amazing. Turn to page 38 to see all the beauty that stemmed from one gorgeous, checkered carpet pattern.
Speaking of carpet...roll out the red carpet for this year’s Nebraska Wedding Day Best of 2026 winners! Voted upon by our readers and wedding professionals, these awards honor the best in the industry from all over the state (page 34).
And the innovation doesn’t stop there! The Best of 2026 Editor’s Choice Awards kick off on page 32. From a floral-forward event design at a local Omaha gem, to a picture-perfect moment, artistic ceremony aisle and more, these are the extraordinary details that made me do a double take this year.
No matter what you decide, social media and outside opinions of what you “should” or “should not” do can become all-consuming. Every other reel may feel like you’re doing too much, or not enough. Amid all the chaos, remember what truly matters: making yourself and your partner happy. With that in mind, pour yourself a drink, light a candle, kick back and enjoy. I hope this issue is as fun for you to read, as it was for our team to put together! Cheers to you!

A TIME TO CELEBRATE
If there’s one thing we know how to do well in this industry, it’s how to celebrate—and this issue feels like one worth raising a glass to.
Stepping into the role of Publisher of Nebraska Wedding Day has been met with such warmth, kindness and genuine support. I’ve felt incredibly welcomed by this community; it’s clear what makes this industry so special here isn’t just the talent—it’s the people behind it.
Nebraska Wedding Day has always been more than a magazine. It’s a celebration of creativity, connection and the incredible professionals who bring wedding visions to life. It tells stories that feel personal and lasting, while introducing couples to the planners, venues, designers, florists, photographers and visionaries who make each celebration unforgettable. At its heart, it’s about trust—couples allowing us into one of the most meaningful seasons of their lives—and a community that continually shows up for one another with generosity and heart.
What stands out most to me already is the level of artistry paired with genuine kindness. The way this community supports, uplifts and celebrates each other is something truly special and something I deeply admire.
As we look ahead, we’ll continue to lean into what we do best: telling beautiful stories, highlighting exceptional local talent, and creating meaningful connections. You’ll see us grow across print, digital and events, while staying rooted in the relationships that make this community so strong.
To our members and industry partners, thank you for the warm welcome and for the work you do every day to make this industry shine. And to our readers and newly engaged couples, thank you for letting us be part of such a joyful chapter in your lives.
This moment feels like both a beginning and an opportunity, and I couldn’t be more excited for what’s ahead.
Here’s to love, to community and to celebrating it all together.

WORK OF ART
Contemporary art met natural beauty when Jaden Kok, owner of JadenKay Designs, gathered a team of wedding professionals to create something truly one-of-a-kind. The design choices stemmed from the floral concept, with one clear main character: a towering paper flower crafted from crepe paper, hot glue, wire and a whole lot of love. “Creating something sculptural yet romantic and whimsical was exactly what I was going for,” Kok says. “From there, I incorporated fresh florals to bring in organic movement and ensure a lively feel.” A labor of love to say the least, Kok wrinkled the paper to create a beautiful texture, giving the scene a sense of naturalism.
Adhering to the garden theme, Kok complemented the blooming vignette with a fragrant composition of flourishing florals. Everything blended harmoniously, from abundant hydrangeas and roses to delicate Queen Anne’s lace, as well as grand bells of Ireland paired with larkspur and delphinium. Offering a modern edge, the scene was accented with anthurium and snake allium. The sweetheart table was set with romantic green and pink linens, patterned plates and chic striped pink menus and napkins. The remaining tables were kept simple yet elevated, featuring crisp white linens, pink napkins and bud vases illuminated by flickering taper candles. As a sweet finale, two cakes leaned into the artistic vision— one adorned with pink blooms, and the other a rectangular confection garnished with pears, grapes and earthy florals.

BRIDAL BUZZ
A boutique experience rooted in authenticity and inclusivity, HONEYBEE BRIDAL (@honeybeebridal.ne) has Lincoln abuzz. Officially established in 2023, owners Erica Taddiken and Alanna Kosmicki channeled their love for fashion and the romance of the industry into a safe space for wedding dress shopping. While attaining her business degree, Taddiken worked at a bridal and tux shop, where she quickly fell in love with helping couples find their perfect wedding look. Soon after establishing HoneyBee Bridal, she teamed up with Kosmicki, a former coworker with a plethora of experience in many areas of the wedding world, and the pair began serving the Lincoln locale with unique bridal gowns and empowering customer service. “We wanted to cultivate a space where people can come and feel like they are truly seen and celebrated,” says Kosmicki. “We know how scary and intimidating wedding dress shopping can be, so we really focus on making a warm and welcoming environment.” Offering extensive sizing, non-traditional wedding attire (hello, color!) and proudly embracing the LGBTQIA+ community, HoneyBee Bridal curates their collection with intention to allow for customers’ wildest dreams to become a reality. —Ryley S. COME RAIN OR SHINE
A wedding day showcases a year’s worth of decisions, from attire and cake flavor to floral arrangements and more, yet one element will remain a wild card: the weather. If you are determined to have an outdoor celebration, it’s likely you have been frantically googling weather averages or paid an Etsy witch to keep the rain at bay. Thankfully, there is a way to ensure your soirée is safe, comfortable and dry. Enter Andrew Leavitt, founder and CEO of concierge meteorology service, IRONIC (@ironicreports) With his extensive background in event production and 24/7 weather desk team, Leavitt is making events right as rain. The pandemic’s downtime and the rise of outdoor weddings in 2020 led him to bring his revolutionary idea to life, and today Ironic serves bustling regions across the globe. The concept struck him when he was a groomsman at a friend’s wedding, and a small storm began to form. He knew it would be brief, but the planner moved everything indoors. The quick shower passed, and the sun came back, resulting in a ceremony drenched in perspiration rather than precipitation.
Unlike weather apps, Ironic’s meteorologists track exact locations and timing, utilizing real-time weather data to relay information to clients. From historical forecast reports to premium on-call meteorology, Leavitt’s team helps everyone involved in the event, such as informing photographers of rain-free timeframes for outdoor portraits, ensuring grounds are secure for tent builds, or advising a bride to ditch the veil before the wind makes it take flight. It’s a domino effect; weather can tip the first domino, and if the event team isn’t prepared, it can impact one of the most special days of your life. Ironic keeps events safe and running smoothly, but the real gift is priceless: peace of mind. —Sydney Stevens
A NEW CHAPTER
Happily ever after is usually followed by a lot of “whats.” What’s for dinner? What should we get at the grocery store? What do we want on this wall? What color should we paint our bedroom? The rose-colored glasses of newlywed bliss are removed, and you are faced with the reality of making dinner every night and creating a home that effortlessly encapsulates you as a couple—minus the “effortless” part because it is no easy feat. Luckily, there are two fresh books on the shelves ready to help newlyweds endure this new chapter of their lives.
The Newlywed Table by Maria Zizka is a book filled with easy-to-follow recipes that are equally delicious. Fret not about leftovers rotting in the fridge, as most recipes have a “what to do with leftovers” section so you can get the most out of each dish. Featuring comfort foods like grilled cheese and tomato soup to sweet and savory breakfasts and beyond, there is no shortage of mouthwatering content. With advice on how to stock your kitchen, organization tips, wedding registry recommendations and more, you’ll be the next Gordon Ramsay in no time. For the Pinterest junkies and wannabe interior designers, The Newlywed Home is for you. Written by Anush J. Benliyan, this book is a wealth of information about producing a stylish, yet functional, abode with your partner. The book takes readers on a journey room by room, sharing advice ranging from design tips to storage ideas. No matter your aesthetic, this book guides you in shaping a space that honors your unique spirits while celebrating the life you are building side by side.

ONE OF THESE NIGHTS
AN ENGAGEMENT SESSION THAT EFFORTLESSLY CAPTURES “THE NOW”
The days of “traditional” engagement photos are over. And Lauren Eihusen and Blake Mattey’s engagement photos are a picture-perfect example. Introduced by Lauren’s sister and her now brother-in-law during a night out in 2021, Lauren and Blake’s connection was instant. “What started as a casual night quickly turned into spending the entire weekend together, laughing, talking and getting to know one another like we’d been friends for years,” Lauren says. The pair lost touch after that night but serendipitously ended up in Grand Island in 2023 and their relationship finally bloomed.
To best capture their bond, the couple enlisted the help of local photographer, TRIN JENSEN , owner of TRIN JENSEN PHOTOGRAPHY (@trin_jensen). First, Jensen documented what Lauren and Blake normally do in Grand Island resulting in a series of moments that had an effortless feel. Usually opting for a playfully casual date night, the next stop was ideal. “Love can truly grow anywhere, and a dive bar of all places emphasizes that,” Jensen says. Lauren and Blake leaned into the country and rock vibes of the dive bar with their attire as well. “My biggest advice is to think about what your life actually looks like right now and let that drive your initial inspiration for your shoot,” Jensen explains. “It’s always exciting to dress up and feel fancy, but don’t overlook ways you can remember the season of life you’re currently in.” Jensen also urges couples to romanticize the ordinary parts of your life. “Those are the aspects of your relationship you’ll want to remember forever,” she says.

WARM WELCOME
A SUNNY PRELUDE TO A FESTIVE OMAHA FÊTE
Setting a celebratory tone for their Omaha wedding weekend, Morgan and Ryan hosted a sun-soaked pool party at Kimpton Cotton Hotel, the very venue where they would say “I do” the following day. Originally from Nebraska, Morgan cherished the opportunity to welcome loved ones back to the place she called home, while also introducing Ryan’s East Coast family and friends to her home state. Now based in Baltimore, the couple embraced the weekend as a destination-style celebration, bringing together guests from across the country. Guests gathered at the
iconic downtown gem for a weekend full of personal details and intention. Upon arrival, loved ones were greeted with curated welcome bags crafted by the bride herself, blending elements of Nebraska and Baltimore, along with a custom old fashioned mix made by the couple to kick off the celebration. Awash in pastel summer hues, the playful poolside welcome party served as a vibrant prelude to the festivities ahead.

TAKE A TRIP BACK IN TIME WITH THIS RETRO-CHIC DESIGN AT GRADUATE BY HILTON LINCOLN
DESIGN & PLANNING: 402 Events
PHOTOGRAPHY: Brooke Confer Photography
VENUE: Graduate by Hilton Lincoln TEXT: Sydney Stevens
Upon entering Graduate by Hilton Lincoln, guests are instantly transported to another era. Set in the heart of Cornhusker country, the hotel has an air of college nostalgia with vintage influences, making it a one-of-a-kind place to celebrate and stay. Among its many noteworthy details is the distinctive carpet in the Scarlet Ballroom.
Drawing inspiration from the carpet, 402 Events crafted a midcentury modern wedding design that embraced the hotel’s retro atmosphere. “With it leaning midcentury modern, we wanted to highlight rich tones and unique shapes to bring the feeling of a midcentury modern home to life,” Makayla Weeks, event manager at 402 Events says. Kicking off the design, Nicole Reher Creative developed a stationery suite featuring bold geometric shapes, retro typography and standout illustrative elements, such as the whiskey glass RSVP card. “It's those small, thoughtful details that make the suite feel memorable and personable to each guest who receives it in the mail,” Reher says.
The carpet in the Graduate really drove the entire design direction. From the color palette to specific rental selections, everything tied back to that starting point.
—Makayla Weeks, 402 Events
Seemingly plucked from a different decade, the dining scene flawlessly blended rich wood-colored walls, checkered carpet and an array of jeweltoned hues. Of the Earth Florals garnished the table with poppies, parrot tulips, gerberas and hyacinth, creating an alluring tablescape, while vintage and thrifted vessels added to the nostalgia. Wooden flatware and plates set atop the velvet tablecloth carried texture throughout as scalloped edges and patterned napkins added another layer of visual interest. The cherry on top? A mini cake
The midcentury mod vibe was mainly influenced in color, we knew we had to nail that to bring the look home.
—Natalie Elsberry,
Of the Earth Florals
The living room area was a favorite—it felt cozy and intimate while still being romantic.
—Makayla Weeks, 402 Events
The “living room” vignette felt straight out of Mad Men, featuring ’60s-and ’70sinspired décor at every turn. “We wanted to highlight rich tones and unique shapes to bring the feeling of a midcentury modern home to life,” Weeks says. Illuminated by the amber glow of vintage lamps, an array of collected pieces made the scene feel genuine and reinforced the theme.
A grand curved wooden bar and chrome bar stools were spotlighted beneath rattan lighting. Vintage glass liquor decanters filled with old fashioneds echoed the stationery detail from the RSVP card within the invitation suite. Another standout element was the unique four-tier cake, featuring a checkered luggage design as a nod to the hotel, alongside three Lambeth-style tiers, with a piece artfully cut out to crown the top.
Bridal Attire: FOR THE ONE BRIDAL (@fortheonebridal)
In the heart of downtown Omaha, Hotel Indigo offers a wedding experience shaped by its surroundings. Set within a historic building at 18th and Dodge, the hotel blends neighborhood character with modern design, creating a setting that feels both rooted and refined, with thoughtful details that reflect the local story.

REAL WEDDINGS
KAYLA & CLINT
Married: AZ + CO., FREMONT
Celebrated: FREMONT GOLF COURSE
Date: OCTOBER 18, 2025
Fate had a hand in placing Clint Kracl and Kayla Hohmann at the same Des Moines bar where the pair instantly connected over their rivaling sports teams. After logging countless calls and miles between their two hometowns, Clint and Kayla became husband and wife in an intimate ceremony set against the exposed brick of the new AZ + Co. space. Guests were guided into the venue with photos of the happy couple, and the pair exchanged vows surrounded by simple white roses and flickering candlelight. Embracing a timeless elegance in the décor, the party moved to Clint’s collegiate home course, Fremont Golf Club. A romantic lounge vignette framed by draping and the warm glow of candles served as the sweetheart table, where the freshly minted Mr. and Mrs. Kracl were able to sit back and soak in the magic of their wedding day.

JENNI & COBY
Married & Celebrated: DISMAL RIVER CLUB, MULLEN
Date: OCTOBER 11, 2025
After meeting the old-fashioned way, at a bar in downtown Lincoln, Jenni Miller and Coby Makela were smitten from the very first date. After an eventful six years and two children together, the pair were ready to say “I do” amongst the rustic rolling hills of Dismal River Club. Inspired by the dramatic intimacy of the “middle of nowhere” vibe of the ceremony location, the celebration had a distinctly whimsical and Wes Anderson-esque flourish. Victorian puzzle purses were crafted for the invitation suite, featuring motifs of fish for Coby, mushrooms for Jenni and zodiac signs for each member of their family. Jenni was a vision to behold as she descended the grand hill in her one-of-a-kind embroidered gown with a lush yellow bouquet in hand, her veil catching on the wind. After exchanging heartfelt vows amongst the native grasses, the newlyweds were caught in the rain, which made for cinematic portraits as they laughed and enjoyed the extraordinary moment. A western-chic reception unfolded with handmade signage deeming the space, “Honeybear Saloon” after Jenni and Coby’s first dance song, “I Love You, Honeybear” by Father John Misty. Soft draping and bursts of sunny florals transformed the unexpected indoor reception, fostering a cozy reprieve from the stormy weather. With the perfect balance of casual and refined, Jenni and Coby treasure each moment of their ultra-romantic wedding day, grateful to have embraced the unexpected. — Ryley S. Hoff

KATIE & CHASE
Married & Celebrated: BELLA
TERRE VINEYARD, GLENWOOD, IA
Date: SEPTEMBER 13, 2025
Katie Alford and Chase Reis’ love for travel, fun and good food forged a playful and adventurous bond they wished to reflect during their sunny wedding day at Bella Terre Vineyard. Opting for a color palette as vibrant as their personalities, the green expanse of the venue was peppered with vibrant orange, pink and deep red structured stems, while satin ribbons in the same palette billowed in the breeze, framing the al fresco aisle. Guests were welcomed Italian style, with “Ciao!” written on bright lemon-yellow striped signage that echoed the invitation suite. Katie radiated elegance down the aisle, wearing in a simple white gown with lace detailing, a bold pop of color on her lips and fun floral flats. Under the September sky, the pair immediately celebrated becoming husband and wife with fruit-flavored frozen treats with their bridal party. Leaning into the European flair of the space, the indoor reception was marked with postcards the couple had collected in Italy, mini marble busts and the fragrance of fresh basil wafting from the cheeky tomato cans at each table. String lights warmed the celebration as they laughed and indulged in Italian fare. The star of the show, however, was their good boy, George, whose presence was a joyful addition not only throughout the wedding day but also in his likeness on top of Katie and Chase’s custom cake. — Ryley S. KELAND & DILLON
Married & Celebrated: KIMPTON COTTONWOOD HOTEL, OMAHA
Date: JANUARY 2, 2026
High school may have introduced Keland Potthoff and Dillon Hernandez, but timing did the rest. After reconnecting at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, they finished their undergraduate side by side before building a life together—complete with their Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Fitz, a surprise from Dillon that sealed the deal. On a crisp winter day, the couple gathered loved ones at the Kimpton Cottonwood Hotel, with décor that leaned into the venue’s architecture rather than competing with it. The ceremony personified the bride and groom’s aesthetic: intimate and engaging, with two guests selected at random to sign the marriage license. From there, the design unfolded with intention. A bespoke French-inspired toile, illustrated with nods to their story (their dogs, a sports scoreboard and even the hotel itself), carried through everything from invitations to cocktail details. Ivory and soft blush grounded the palette, while saturated reds and pinks brought contrast—mirrored in sculptural florals that mixed classic roses with modern anthurium. The reception balanced polish with personality. A live artist created watercolor portraits of guests as favors, while gold accents and acrylic details added dimension to the candlelit room. Even the couple’s attire joined the narrative, with flashes of red on their shoes tying back to the florals. The newlyweds celebrated Keland’s birthday—which was the following day—with a second cake and a little extra sweetness. Their advice for engaged pairs: “Truly define what your vision is and stay true to that.” — Megan Simpson Teeter

GALILEA & TREVOR
Married & Celebrated: THE GARDEN ROOM, OMAHA
Date: AUGUST 9, 2025
Painting their summer celebration with pastel hues, Galilea Valdivia and Trevor Logeman embraced a laid-back ethereality for their wedding day at The Garden Room. Gali was the very portrait of dreamy elegance, with subtle lace detailing on the bodice of her off-the-shoulder tulle gown, accented by the bold trim of her two-tier veil. A lush bouquet of white roses and calla lilies matched perfectly and provided a stark contrast to her bridal party, dressed in different styles and colors of pastel gowns. Trevor was his bride’s dapper counterpart, wearing a classic tux accented by a simple white calla lily boutonnière as they exchanged vows. A bounty of blooms in a pale rainbow palette accented the draped reception space, creating a whimsical, modern ambiance to ring in their first moments as newlyweds. Lace and satin tablecloths were layered for texturally rich tablescapes, adorned with vintage-inspired place settings for guests to enjoy their birria dinner. A lively mariachi band scored the festivities, adding a layer of playfulness to the candlelit occasion while celebrating Gali’s heritage. For a trendy and sweet finish to the evening, the bride and groom cut into a Lambeth-style cake, garnished with swan figurines and maraschino cherries. Gali and Trevor maintained a relaxed and happy aura on their wedding day, spending the hours in style, laughing and enjoying time with the people they love most. — Ryley S. Hoff

For most, the idea of their parents setting them up on a blind date is out of the question, but for Brooke Schneiderman and Noah Morris, it marked the beginning of a lifetime together. Approaching their wedding day with classic refinement, the stunning grounds of Happy Hollow Club provided an idyllic setting for the pair to celebrate their love. Winding white florals cascaded from a bubbling fountain and lined the serpentine aisle beneath a grand tent, offering refuge from the early summer sun. Brooke and Noah took center stage for the ceremony, surrounded by family and friends as they exchanged vows. After they were pronounced husband and wife, guests were escorted to a leisurely outdoor cocktail hour before moving indoors for dinner and dancing. Candlelight and timeless elegance defined the décor; velvety petals were paired with matte gold and glass accents to create an ambiance that seamlessly blended tradition with modern simplicity. The dance floor remained packed throughout the night, with espresso martinis in hand as “Espresso” by Sabrina Carpenter played, fueling the celebration. And for dessert? A six-tier custom cake showcased the meticulous attention to detail woven throughout this elevated wedding day. — Ryley S. Hoff

JOSELYN & CAMDEN
Married: SAINT WENCESLAUS CATHOLIC CHURCH, OMAHA
Celebrated: OMAHA MARRIOTT DOWNTOWN AT THE CAPITOL DISTRICT
Date: AUGUST 9, 2025
Joselyn Wojtalewicz and Camden Parks spent years orbiting the same spaces—attending the same grade school, working at the same country club, even sharing college bars and friend groups—without ever actually meeting. It wasn’t until much later, after a casual Instagram message and a long-distance stretch, that their love story finally began. On the morning of their wedding day, the bride stepped into a veil made from her mother’s wedding dress, while gifting her and Camden’s respective mothers custom birthstone earrings that tied their families together. The ceremony at St. Wenceslaus offered a classic start before the newlyweds welcomed guests to the Marriott Downtown at the Capitol District for a reception that felt like stepping into a whimsical garden party. Oversized florals towered above the tables, setting the tone for their Alice in Wonderland –inspired celebration. Personal details were woven throughout the design, from a cake that nodded to both sets of parents’ original wedding cakes—reimagined with a retro twist—to Joselyn honoring her grandmothers by incorporating keepsakes into her bouquet. After dinner, the energy shifted. In lieu of a receiving line, the couple carried on Joselyn’s grandmother’s tradition, “pots and pans,” where guests banged pots and pans together to congratulate the newlyweds. From there, the dance floor stayed packed as their favorite band played, with late-night Runza and spicy margaritas keeping everyone fueled. For the bride, the most memorable moment was watching every detail come together in real time—especially the cake she had envisioned from the start. — Megan Simpson Teeter

Made captivating by modern moodiness and striking fashion, Shelby Vandemark and Tyler Deardorff’s exquisite black-tie wedding took place at The Acreage. The couple’s dog, Morris, led the procession, adding a playful touch that reflected the couple’s vision for a day full of unapologetic personality. Stunning and stylish, Shelby wore a showstopping, intricately detailed lace gown, while Tyler leaned into the bold contrast of their color palette with an eye-catching white jacket and black trousers, accented by black buttons and lapels, along with a bow tie and boutonnière that echoed the bride’s bouquet. Inside, the neutral interiors created a naturally refined aesthetic, allowing the bridal party to embrace a stylish, dramatic edge. OLIVIA & ERIK
Married & Celebrated: OMAHA COUNTRY CLUB
Date: OCTOBER 18, 2025
Musical tradition and family heritage guided Olivia McCown and Erik Skoog’s timeless wedding at the elegant Omaha Country Club. Bonded by their shared passion for jazz, the two met at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, where they both sang as part of the UNL Jazz Singers. Erik proposed on a romantic trip to Lake Como, inspiring an Italian-influenced color palette of fresh olive green and bright ivory, accented by flushed wine and crimson—colors that echoed cherished memories of their engagement. The bride’s bouquet of delicate calla lilies and hydrangeas added classic charm to the overall floral design. Music set the tone for the entire day, infusing the ceremony with warmhearted charisma. The bridal party sang as they got ready, bringing lively energy that carried into an upbeat night of dancing. Olivia designed ribbon twirlers for the dance floor that read “Opa” and “Skål,” honoring her Greek ancestry and the groom’s Swedish roots. A traditional Swedish maypole ritual received a playful contemporary twist as Erik held a whiskey bottle overhead while guiding the dancers. Throughout the celebration, favorite moments were marked by meaningful songs, with jazz selections from Chet Baker and Bill Evans serving as sweet, nostalgic reminders of the couple’s musical love story. — Diane Meyer
