--------------------------------------------------------------------***---------------------------------------------------------------------ABSTRACT According to India’s State of Pet Homelessness Index, In 2024, an estimated 80 million homeless cats and dogs in India were either living on the streets or in shelters. Specifically, 62 million stray dogs and 9.1 million street cats were reported. This results in many animals being put down due to overcrowding in shelters. The current methods of finding and adopting pets are ineffective and disorganized, To lower euthanasia rates we can go for a feature driven platform like ”Second Chance Pets” which is a technology-driven platform that encourages pet adoption that caters to all animal lovers. We can help to improve the current situation using our website. It’s an online platform where people may adopt, buy, sell, and rescue animals. This way, you can find and care for your new furry friend.

Key words: Stray animals, Adoption, Website, Animal Shelter. 1. INTRODUCTION Every year, millions of pets end up in shelters, yet only a fraction find permanent homes. India faces a staggering stray animal crisis, with an estimated 80 million stray dogs and cats living on the streets. Shockingly, only 1 in 500 find adoption, while the rest suffer from malnutrition, accidents or disease. Animal shelters already overwhelmed house over 250,000 pets, at any given time, yet adoption rates remain below 15% due to fragmented systems and lack of awareness. Compounding the issue, 62% of urban shelters operate beyond capacity, leading to preventable euthanasia or prolonged kennel stress. The current approaches to moving or finding pets are reckless and ineffectual. It is our responsibility to show animals in shelters or under the care of animal rescue groups patience, love, and trust. Managing all animals in one location is a major issue due to the increase in lost and abandoned pets. The objective of " Second Chance Pets " is to create a user-friendly website where people can easily browse for pets and to quickly locate and adopt pets. Traditional adoption methods—reliant on word-of-mouth, overcrowded shelters, or unverified online listings—fail to address these systemic gaps. Fraudulent pet sales, inadequate health disclosures, and poor adopter-shelter coordination further deter potential adopters. Second Chance Pets, a MERN stack-powered platform, tackles these challenges by digitizing and securing the adoption process. Having, Verified Pet Profiles with real time location, phone number of the pet owner, and all the essential information required.
